- Dennis White, out of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, did a complete teardown and restoration of this 1987 Peterbilt 359 over a 15-month period after he bought it in May 2018. White’s goal during the rebuild was to keep the truck looking as original as he could while still adding some modern comforts. The truck was shown at the 2019 Great American Trucking Show Pride & Polish, where it placed third in the Limited Mileage Combo class.
I just want to say thank you to everyone for all your comments on my truck, and a great big thank you to overdrive magazine for putting it on TH-cam it makes me feel good that so many people are looking at it and commenting on it, this makes it worth while. Thank you Dennis White.
Omg your 359 is so beautiful, i like how its so stock looking
That truck is perfect, nice to see someone do it so tastefully, interior, original walk thru hole, sitting were it should be really nice!!!
It belongs in a museum. It’s absolutely beautiful. I bet you go to bed every night with a smile on your face. I guy can see the look in your eyes what it means to you. Congratulations!
Thank you for keeping it original,
That is great! In the 1980’s I drove several different 359’s, 63” walk in, a couple of the had the 400 BC III, but my favorite was the one with the 3406B/13SPD. It was an early engine as it was originally painted white, from what I was told. Back then there was an old saying, “ A Big Truck goes as fast as it can but a Large Car goes as fast as it wants”! I definitely enjoyed those days on the road in the Pete’s & sure miss those times as well.
Just a beautiful example of an iconic piece of history. Well done sir. 🫡
I saw this link from Dirk's, and MAN, was it worth it!! Nice truck.
I just talked to Dennis a few minutes ago. He was in this beautiful truck. Let me tell you, this is a beautiful Pete. Dennis and his wife are awesome people
Thank you Tucker trucker I appreciate the flowers
Good looking Pete. Young guys don’t know what they missed back in the 70’s and 80’s.
Back when I was just a kid, I was seeing a lot of
CAB-OVER-ENGINE trucks:
PETERBUILT 352, 362
KENWORTH K-123, K-100
INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER
TRANSTAR ll, 4070, 9670,
EAGLES
WHITE FREIGHTLINER'S,
FREIGHTLINER'S,
MACK INTERSTATERS,
MACK CRUISE LINERS
GMC ASTRO,
CHEVY TITANS,
WHITE ROAD COMMANDERS,
AUTOCAR'S,
DIAMOND REO'S
FORD CL-9,000's
DODGE'S,
And I also faintly remember another one I use to see called MERCEDES BENZ also had C,O,E's as well that was way back in the early 1970's.
As for CONVENTIONAL's were concerned we had:
PETERBUILT 359, 369,
KENWORTH 900, 925
INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER 4300,
S-serie's (two different ones that I can't remember right off hand)
FREIGHTLINER'S
WHITE FREIGHTLINER'S
MACK SUPER LINERS,
DM-600, DM-800,
R-685st,. DMM series,
G,M,C- GENERAL, BRIGADIER,
CHEVY- BISON,
WHITE ROAD BOSS
AUTOCAR A64B,
WESTERN STAR,
DODGE BIGHORN,
FORD LT-9000, LTL-900
MERCEDES BENZ as well
But unfortunately those are as people here say are
ANTIQUE, or ANCIENT by today's standards.
And none of those had what I have heard the phrase mentioned
ANT-EATER NOSE'S , or FIBERGLASS BODIES, or COMPUTERS, ah yes and ANYBODY who was around back then will remember one thing they all just about use to have the ANTIQUE GOOD OLE FASHION
8-TRACK PLAYER'S,
23-CHANNEL C/B's, (not the 40-channel that people have today), RADAR DETECTOR'S, (or BIRD DOG'S as some people call them),
MILE-HIGH STACKS,
CHROME ALL OVER EVERYTHING,
HORNS ON TOP OF THE TRUCK also CHROME of course,
ROOFTOP A/C UNITS,
WEST-COAST MIRRORS
And it was VOLVO that started making the CAB+the SLEEPER in one solid BOX,
And none of the TRUCKS in those days had
EUROPEAN DESIGNING.
GOD I MISS THOSE DAY'S!
KEITH (MR HILLBILLY)😎😎😎😎😎
Keith Knott Oh yea, when it was fun to drive a truck, and when trucks were trucks.
That is a beautiful restoration, not a detail spared. Simple and elegant!
Dennis White you got one hell of a pretty truck, nice work!
Thank you Matt I like these kind of comments. I alike to show it off I’m very proud of it
That is a very beautiful 1987 359 Peterbilt. The last of its kind.. Then the 379 was born that year. 👍Thanks for the video. Awsome Truck.!
Thanks for looking
Dennis White Im a long haul truck driver. I love the classic hoods. Dont see too many of them these days.
Very nice Dennis, I had an 85 echood same color that was all original I had to sell it because oh health problems 7 years ago broke my heart still hurts today. My hat goes off to you well done my friend.
Thank you for your reply. I’m very proud of it. I put it in truck trader magazine a couple of months ago for sale but I’m afraid if it sells I’ll be heart broke too. We’ve put a lot of time into it
Beautiful restoration Dennis,
I'm loving the set of sticks, definitely one of the best restorations I've ever seen. SHINE ON.
beautiful absolutely beautiful...take a bow sir....Respect to you!
Beautiful, that takes me back to my trucking days late 80s, very nice
That was my trucking days too. I learned how to drive a truck in one of these Pete’s.
@@denniswhite4529 Yeah, remember not many had a large car.
A 350 Cummins in a truck with a 36” sleeper was a big rig way up into the early 80s, and a lot of cab overs were running.
@@denniswhite4529 I drove alot of the cabovers. Thanks fully got to drive a KW 100 aerodyne with the condo sleeper. Loved it except the manual steering lol
Air assisted steering was a big thing on a lot of kenworth’s
I like how its pretty much stock ,nice to see one sitting right and without the back of the cab cut up ,classy
Ooooh wow !! Stunning truck, amazing restoration !!!
Wow… Beautiful truck. And he says he just plays with the truck, amazing. Put it to work.
😯 that’s one ☝🏻 good looking boy 👍🏻
Back to his glory days 👌🏻
That is beautiful. Beautiful paint job.
Very nice and clean cut !👍🏻
Great truck, Mr. White.
Thank you Paul
The ole girl shined up real nice
That's an awesome ride
Very beautifull this Peterbilt 359 1987, i love this truck
His son has an awesome cab over as well
Omg the rebuilt the entire truch back the way it was from factory "Brand New" i want that truck😁😁😁
beautiful
Wow that looks good!!!
beautiful truck looks like it just left the agency congratulations
No words !
No words?! I have some it’s a rolling tird right out of the pages of HISTORY, a truck like that can’t even be safe rolling down today’s highways it’s OLD OLD... I looked it over pretty good it’s even still got the pilot hub wheels and old style safety features. My 387 has all the safety features I like. I cringe literally cringe when I see an antique like this meeting me on the road.
Juan Martinez I have 4 of those rolling turds with millions and millions of miles on them and they were paid for years ago and they are still making me money today . I thoroughly enjoy making big giant bank deposits every month . I have a you tube channel and if you go to it and press on downloads you can see the 2000 Pete 379 I bought with a cat C16 800 hp it’s a big rolling turd also . I use it for Bull hauling . The 359s haul rock and sand 6 days a week here in Southern California.
Too bad they don’t make trucks as nice as this this day in time!
Sure bringls back the memories of driving & being around these ole classic 359's. My dad had a 1974 359. The one in the video is gorgeous. . . . .take off those gay full fenders though!
Beautiful truck 😍 this has always been my favorite color on a Pete. I had a '93 379 painted that color one time. Pretty sure it's same. Mine was called Radiant Fire Effect. What's the name of your color?
Very Nice
Wow, water beautiful truck. I have A83359 that I would like to do the same to
Sweet pete
man i'd kill to have this as my rig. except i would need a single shifter lol
Don’t remember if the exaust elbows go that low...or two rear sleeper lights. Very nice truck..what was that in the sleeper under Bed
While I had the dash out of it I went ahead and put electric wipers in it. What you see under the bed in the storage compartment is the aluminum windshield washer tank. I just didn’t like the way it looked under the hood
Just like my 359..does this truck has steel air tanks...I went brought an aluminum one off dirks ...best quality. You should check them our for hard to find 359 parts. Dans shop inc.
I’d drive them wheels off that beautiful truck
When trucks were actual trucks.
Please do not call it a Peterbilt truck, just say it as it is, call it a money pit, You could get 2 new once, and have money let over, I guess it was a labor of love .She looks great. TH
Saw this truck at gats 19. Pretty original old truck had a decent interior that looked all original just looked aged Truck was kept super close to the factory style. Except it had rear fenders. That really killed it for me I’m a qurter fender kynda guy and old skool flaps in the back. Decent build. Really wish it’d had tha white cat factory color motor. Oh well some guys just don’t know What original Was.
that's a B block, it would have been yellow from new.
