Either a bad motor, or an ESC with incorrect timing perhaps? Swapping the motors left for right and running it again would verify if the motor is the problem. If the OTHER motor gets hot after doing so then it's a possible ESC issue. I learned in my RC boat days that high pole count outrunners like high timing in the 25°-30° range. I wonder if the timing on one ESC got set lower than that? When I ran one boat with a 15° setting the outrunner motor got quite hot. Are your ESC's programmable? The orange-colored 1304 4000kV motors at Bang Good have worked well for 2S applications for me so far. 5.4g including wires. AliEx has them for even less. Having fun watching the build. Happy flying!
Yeah, I thought it might be a timing issue as well since I've had that happen before. I reset the ESC to defaults and did swap the motors after another test. It's the 1st bad RacerStar Motor I've ever gotten. The ESCs are the FVT Favourite LittleBee 20A OPTO ESCs. I have several of these ESCs and they work great. I'll check for those motors at AliEx and thanks for the info. See you in the Air!
Your conversion looks nice and flies very well, thanks for sharing. I also intend to use the same esc on a similar conversion but want my airplane to have esc braking. The problem is that this esc does not come with the sheet of paper that describes how to program it through the transmitter. In the video you mention that you looked up and found how to restore the esc to default settings. Was it possible to do it through the transmitter or did you have to connect it to a pc via a usb adapter? The only thing I've been able to program through the thransmitter is the throttle range. Again, thanks a lot for sharing your experience with your brilliamt conversion
Thank You Ali! I don't have a programming tool for this ESC so I had to set it back to the defaults using the TX. It seems more and more of these ESCs require a programming card to setup the most simple things. I may see if I can find a programming card for these in the future as I have several of them. Are you going to use a twin motor setup on yours? My next one will be a single tractor motor with a folding prop so I'll be using an ESC that I can setup the brake with the TX. See you in the Air!
@@GroundControlRC Thanks for your reply. My airplane will have a single tractor motor, that is why I want the esc brake. Without it every landing will mean a broken prop since the field I fly over is littered with stones. I also might use a folding prop. I have some 5 inch ones lying around but first I need to find a motor with the correct shaft diameter. If I can not find that in time then I'll use a trusty 1306 3100kv motor with a normal prop for the first flights. I do have another one of these chuck gliders lying around and might as well convert it to a twin tractor like you did here, after seeing how well yours fly. About the esc programming, I've looked around on the net a bit and on hobbyking's page for this esc I found manuals that explain how to program not only this esc but, also various other simonk and blheli escs using an ardunio nano. This sounds like a really good idea to me since a knock-off arduino nano is not only locally available but also costs less than a programming card while being able to program a variety of escs. You can find the manual files by searching for "hobbyking favourite little bee 20a opto esc" and if you have used hobbyking before, they always have a manuals tab on their product pages. Alternatively, I can share the links here if you want but I believe if the channel owner doesn't allow links in their comments the comment will be automatically deleted. Anyways, I wish you good luck with your single motor conversion. I'm eager to see what you will come up with since there are a few things that I don't like about my own conversion. See you in the air too!
@@aliberk3112 Yes, I will definitely need a brake on my ESC as well since I'll be using a folding prop and spinner. I'll probably use a HobbyWing Skywalker or Turnigy Plush ESC on mine as I have many of those and programming cards for them. I did search HobbyKing as I've purchase many items from them and apparently they've discontinued the LittleBee and removed the manual link. Oh, well, sometimes manuals of similar ESCs will work for many settings.
@@GroundControlRC even if the product is discontinued, the web page can still be accessed through a search engine and manual files are still avaliable for download, I downloaded them just yesterday :) though they are useful only if you intend to use an arduino to program your esc. They don't have much information on programming through the tx. Anyways, I'll leave the links here just in case someone finds them useful. Good luck with your conversion :)
Hi, I noticed this Chuck Glider Conversion video and it looks almost identical to my EPP Spirit Electric Glider that I recently bought from AliExpress. "1000mm EPP Spirit RC Trainer Plane Model PNP " I wonder if this chuck glider was the origin of my EPP Spirit electric glider? I have a review of it on my channel if you are interested: DavesRC AUS. I’ve only had it a short while, but am experimenting with battery size, CG, configuring spoilerons and have ordered a folding prop for it. So, I will be posting some more reviews soon after these mods. I’ll be interested to see how you install the skid - I need to do that with mine to protect the prop on landing. And also will be keen to see how she flies - I’ve had a lot of fun with mine!
Hi David! Yes, it seems to be the exact same glider and even the decals look the same. It fantastic that you can buy a RTF version.
