    I've got two of these gilders and converted one to rc. Very interesting to see you tackle the same project because you have a much different vision for the conversion. I really liked how these flew as chuck gliders and wanted to preserve the same flight characteristics even as a rc model. With full 4 channel control and enough power to fly comfortably the AUW is 180 grams, if I remember correctly that is.
    Since I wanted to fly it as a motor glider didn't think it would need much reinforcement. Only added a 50 cm long 0.5 mm by 3 mm carbon strip to the underside of the wing, which helps keep it lightweight. Unfortunately though, I have not maidened it yet because I haven't went flying in a loooong time. I hope to go flying again soon, we'll see how my conversion works. The build is far from perfect so it might end up being an eventful maiden flight, we'll see.
    I like your idea of a powerful twin tractor setup, that might very well be what I end up doing with the one that I haven't modified yet. Especially with a wide and stable tricycle landing gear it should be a very fun airplane to do touch and goes with.
    One thing to add about my conversion is, instead of carving out a lot of space inside the fuselage I mostly carved out foam from the canopy piece. I thought keeping as much material in the nose of the airplane as possible would be a good idea to keep it stronger. Only the battery is housed inside the fuselage, the esc and the reciever stay in the canopy cover. Of course, the fact that I was using a small 1 gram receiver and a tiny 6 amp esc helped me do that. Since you are using bigger components I imagine you had to carve out more foam from the fuselage.
    Anyways, I wish you good luck with your conversion and I'm excited to see how it turns out. Thanks for sharing!

      Thank you Ali!
      I have (2) of these as well and will be converting the 2nd one as you did your 1st one ;-)
      I have a metal allow folding prop and spinner assembly to convert one as you did and make it a high performance Sport Glider.
      It will be setup for 3S Power.
      All of my reinforcement was just to make sure nothing flexes and to protect it during landings.
      If I had some grass to land on I could have use less reinforcement.
      I'm hoping it has pre-conversion glide characteristics as well.
      I wish I had 4g servos and 12A OPTO ESCs as that's really all this one needs with the power it's going to have.
      Good luck on your Maiden.
      This is going to be fun ;-)

      @@GroundControlRC can I ask you a question cause I haven’t dealt with these small motors before . Why do they describe them as cw and ccw .? Are they talking about the motor or prop .

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thetwogardens6048 Both. They describe the motors as CW/CCW depending on which direction the prop nut tightens.
      Of course, CW/CCW depending on which direction the prop is supposed to spin.
      With motors it doesn't make a different if you use lock nuts.

    Interesting to see your take on converting the glider its alot different to what I've done with the same hand throw glider model but compared to your conversion I've took it overboard a little.
    Granted I've had to remove alot of foam from inside the fuselage and canopy to allow for electronics and battery but It flys really well even in decent winds will also do rolls loops etc. Manged to squeeze 4x 9g servos running airelons and elevators, spars on fuselage & wings & stabilisers & control surfaces, dys1806 2300kv motor with 5x5 prop, RadioMaster R86 Reciever, RunCam Swift Micro fpv camera with 600mw vtx all running on a 3s 35c 11.4v 1350mah battery. Ive got an on board stunt flight video on my "Felixxfpv" channel of the glider conversion ive called U2.
    Managed to reach a level flight top speed of 55-60mph for my model which was taken from another plane in formation with mine which has flight Computer and GPS.

      Those cheap chuck glider make for a very inexpensive conversions.
      They can be pretty high performance with the right components and a lot of fun ;-)

      I'd recommend trying this conversion to anyone willling to spend the time on it. I've had hours of fun with my conversion and so has my friend who flys with me.
      We have recently found a seller on Aliexpress selling these gliders already converted for £38 just add a reciever and battery and its ready to fly which is good for anyone who doesn't have the time or skills to convert one. Happy Flying

      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TerryFelixx Yes, better to get one that's already converted if you can''t do it yourself.
      That's a very good price for an already converted glider.

      @TerryFelixx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I thought there is an £8 delivery charge but even with that for an almost ready to fly plane it's a bargain especially for its size and capabilitys. Great for Los flight or Fpv.

    Maybe I wasn't listening but I didn't hear if the props would be counter rotating and if you were going to make it fly with differential thrust?
    Cool project, can't wait to see it fly.

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Jack!
      Yes, counter rotating props.
      I'm going to test with a Byme-A Gyro so no differential thrust to begin with.
      I've extended the Rudder so I'll have to see what kind of Hammerhead I can get out of it ;-)
      If it doesn't perform those very well I'll have to look into a different Gyro so I can program differential thrust with the Rudder.
      I hope it won't be needed.
      See you in the Air!

    Actually, I bought this one second hand and my goal is to make it a very light motorglider. I managed to get to a little more than 100 gr and when almost no wind, it glides so so well. It has
    weight in the front (removed the ball and put smaller balls and screws further in the front), so that will become the battery / receiver bay. I probably will use 2 tiny high kv brushless motors i have and tiny props (less drags) : it makes differential possible. I have 5 gr servos but not sure if I will need them (perhaps ailerons) since my goal is just to climb high with the motors and let it glide back with little action. I'm pondering all this for a winter project.

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's Awesome!
      Yours is so light it should glide forever.
      Having one so light I'd be tempted to use just 2.5g servos.
      I'd only be putting 4g servos in this one if I had them on hand.
      My 2nd one will be a Winter Project as well.
      Good luck on your project.
      It's going to be fun ;-)

      Hi Pat!
      Yes, something along those lines.
      If it flies as well as the Flying Fish I'll be very happy indeed.
      That Flying Fish is the best Sub-250g Factory Plane is flown to date.
      I ordered (2) of these and the 2nd one will be converted to a high performance Sport Glider with a folding prop.
      That one will be a Winter Project.
      I purchased these for $12 US delivered!
      The link I have in the Show Notes for this is $11 US delivered!
      It's going to be fun ;-)
