This is honestly so crazy impressive. Having a shiny quilava traded across two decades of games earning all ribbons only to evolve them involve into version that didn't exist in the past. Without video proof I would have just assumed clearly this was hacked. I'm also currently playing through gens 3 through 7 again to try and make sure that I have as many pokémon in home as possible. Although I don't think I have the time to go for true mastery I will be stopping to earn some of the easier ribbons along the way
@@tonybrewer7536The Teddiursa line is sadly not available in Galar. I know a ribbon master is just "earn as many ribbons as possible on any given Pokémon", but in this case I think they're referring to getting maximum ribbons since they're bringing up shadow Pokémon

This challenge is both incredibly sick and sickening. At first glance, it seems a bit like torture to do so much farming while following so many rules and buying so many games, yet, there is something genuinely cool about having a Pokemon that is 100% yours, unique and a clear representation of your past endeavors. Well done to you, and anyone who finishes this challenge and I'm glad that your own shadow crystal goblin got enough ribbons to drown in them like Scrooge McDuck.

I’m planning on just using emulators up until Gen 8. As far as I see it, as long as I’m not genning or hacking, all is well. Plus, I can emulate GBA linking and Pokétransfer as well, so I can make sure I can pass legitimacy checks
@@JessieIsRawrdesmume and melonds allow for gba pak insertion, and both allow for "multiplayer" by opening a second instance of the emulator on your computer. so everything checks out till you try to transfer from 5 to 6 which involves transporter and bank which creates some new data on the mon that if you dont have, Home will reject it
If you have a modded 3ds it's very easy to do so since you can have Gen 3-7 on one platform (with the exception of GameCube of course). But essentially you can use a program called PKSM and this can function like Bank and let's you edit pokemon, transfer between games with no minigames or cooldown and many other features. The only thing you'd really need Bank for is to transfer to the switch games. Also if you happen to have a modded Wii and GameCube/GBA link cable, you can transfer your saves to and from GBA cartridges which means if you wanted to you can play a pokemon game using an emulator on your phone, and then transfer your save to your actual game! Also very nice to have a backup of your save if you had a game from your childhood to preserve it. Hope this helps and sorry for the long comment! @JessieIsRawr
The ultra sun/moon battle tree ruled. The boss battles kept you on your toes and there were tons of great cameo characters. Alola is so underrated man...
I honestly agree. I loved the alola games. They weren’t my first Pokémon game but they were the first games where I kind of fully understood what I was doing. So I have a lot of nostalgia for the alola games. Hell I have a team skull tattoo. I’m almost finished with my ribbon master quest and the battle tree gave me a hard time but all the cameos were cool.
Fun Fact: the Black Orlov was a cursed diamond said to have been plucked from the eye of a divine statue, and caused three of its previous owners to all jump off of buildings. Hopefully I haven't jynxed myself with that particular nickname...
Also if anyone is curious how he named an event Pokemon you can trick the Name Rater in Gen 3 if you have the same name, gender, trainer ID and secret ID as the event, or in Gen 4 just by having a matching trainer ID
Yeah, I was looking at which Shadow Pokémon can get absolutely every Ribbon and get new evolutions in later games and Kleavor was the one that stood out the most. Other options being Dusknoir, Mamoswine, Gallade, Froslass and Magnezone. All of those can evolve immediately in gen 4 though, and only Gallade and Froslass could have been evolved into something different in gen 3 instead, so none of them are as much of a visible show of dedication. Well, that plus Scyther is probably the unevolved Pokémon from that list most able to contribute in battle, something that I'm sure will make it easier to hold off so long on evolving it. Extra special bonus points if you catch it in a Dive Ball or Repeat Ball which are only available in XD by trading them in as held items on Pokémon, or a Luxury Ball which you only get one of without doing the same. Especially since all three will have regular Pokéball rates on Scyther in XD, except I suppose a Repeat Ball if you _also_ trade in a different Scyther before going for the catch.
Strangely this video nearly brought me almost to tears - revisiting the challenges my whole crew from the two Colosseum games made over the last 4 years - currently they reside in the gen 8/9 bracket and I'm sort of irritated most of the time in which game they are hiding at the moment :/ One day, they will all be ribbon masters! - well, if I ever get around to actually go for that pvp-ribbon that is ;)

Snorlax looks like the mon to choose for the most future gen proof ribbon mon if youre gonna choose a shadow mon thats in every game. Even if its not included in upcoming gens immediately. It will probably be in every gen by end of each games lifespan for being such a dominant crowd favorite. Scizor and Chansey are almost there but i feel they could be left out because it doesnt hit the omega favorite list.
One of my most prized possessions is my shiny Sneasel i hunted in colosseum, after 7586 resets he finally shined for me, and i've ribbon mastered him 100% using pokemon i personally trained and caught. The feeling of pride and accomplishment i feel everytime i look at him knowing i had to bust my ass, experience all pokemon had to offer and i didn't take any shortcuts is a damn good feeling. Love ribbon master content!
it’s annoying because while the wii shop channel is down, you can still download the skyward sword save data update channel and the wii to wii u transfer channel from it because those are important tools to have, why didn’t they do that with pokémon bank and poké transporter

great video! i've been training a heracross, piloswine and sneasel into ribbon masters, focusing on my heracross named blueberry the most. they're currently sat in ORAS until i get the motivation to resume this challenge but this video is going to help inspire me to continue ❤

I know 2/3 of the people who purchased that PCNY machine. One of them left Pokémon and gaming entirely. It's insane to see the long term effects of that presevation effort.
Man, I actually have all the incredients to do this... And a few of my favorite pokemon are even available as shadow pokemon (Medicham, Electabuzz and Farfetch'd). This seems like such an impressive achievement though, just by time investment alone. Not to mention the stuff you need to learn. The fact that there's a few mini guides in here (for pokeblocks and EVs) is emblematic of that. Honestly, the biggest reason I'm hesitating, is the Gen4 contests. Rythm games are such an annoyance to me. I seem to remember it was also kinda finicky to use the touch screen like this as a leftie (though the XY training courses are much worse in that regard, especially the later ones)
I know the struggle of being left-handed and playing certain games that expect you to use buttons + touch screen at the same time (Kid Icarus Uprising was the WORST for this) - You can also use the button inputs for Gen 4 contests if that helps though.
This is the best ribbon guide there is. Yeah sure, the editing and information and whatnot is good, I guess. But the actual reason it's good is that it used my favorite Pokemon, sableye. Well done
Another kind of cut bit of content were ribbons associated with the 2008-2012 competitive championships. They varied from ribbons commemorating attending the event to watch, down to the exclusive ribbons handed out for winning worlds or a given regional I think. You can hack these in, and seem to be present from the 5th gen onwards. Obviously they're probably not going to be considered for this challenge due to the elusive nature surrounding them
You know coming from gen 8 as my first real game, times like these make me wish the older games were not so inaccessible because I would love to build a shiny ribbon master gardevoir from Colesseum. Still, there is no way in hell I would be able to afford, or WANT to afford all the necessary hardware just to be able to access all of that stuff. Like the nostalgic journey to get them is awesome, but as a whole? It's meh. At least I have a copy of colesseum already, but the gba and all that is kind of wack
Regarding the eReader cards: There are some good scans of the cards online. If you print them out to proper scale, they usually work with the eReader. If I remember correctly, the eReader berries do not work on non-Japanese copies of Pokemon Emerald. They should work on all versions of Ruby and Sapphire.
Regarding BDSP, i strated my recents master ribbons from Alola. While the contest ribbons don't give me any problem i found my self struggling with the weekley ribbons, so i ask on the current version of BDSP there is a way to time skip to make it possible to get this set of ribbons faster? I ask becouse i got the first one yesterday but then i realize that, unlike OR/AS, this ribbons no longer get awarded to the entire team just the first one in your party. So there is a way to time skip? Or any possible exploit for this have beign removed in the current version of the game? Becouse i stupidly try using the old way to time skip in D/P but i got lock out for 24h regarding the time based events.
This is such a great video. I love both yours and ToastyToes' videos on this subject. I remember thinking about this a long time ago and looked it up, and I found someone doing it with a Smeargle from XD. I've always wanted to do it myself, but never have. I would probably only go up to gen 6 (maybe 7) though as I'm not too interested in the later gens. Hisuian Typhlosion is ADORABLE though, I like it even more than normal Typhlosion whom is already my favorite starter. Great choice :)
I would recommend researching the perfect poffin mixtures to get all of the contest stats maxed out because my Raichu had a VERY hard time getting through the Master contests.
i dont have old consoles nor i think i can afford them, so.. i decide to just collect every ribbon my fav shiny Azumarill can get from gen 8 swsh instead 😅, not a ribbon master but its just fun collecting it, also cool video
If you caught it in Generation 8, that can still count as a ribbon master! Even though you could catch Azumarill in gen 3, it would still be a ribbon master as long as you got every ribbon that your azumarill was able to (and since you can't transfer back to gen 7, you would only need the ribbons from SWSH, BDSP and Scarlet/Violet)

I also have my very own Ribbon Master. It is my Jolly Hidden Ability 5IVs(non-max sp attack) Garchomp that I hatched back in Y version. Sure I couldve started back in Gen 4 for Garchomp but at the time, if I wanted a hidden ability Garchomp. I would have to start at Gen 5 or Gen 6 since there are no items that changes abilities at the time. Also theres no ribbon in Gen 5 anyways so starting with Gen 6 for HA Garchomp is already good enough. Aside from Gens 3 to 5, My Garchomp got all the ribbons from Pokemon Y until Pokemon Violet. It even has the mark for the smallest size. (Bruh, my Garchomp is shorter than my character in Violet. 💀)
By chance, did you transfer your garchomp into hisui? For a time it automatically set the height scale value of transferred Pokémon to 0, so if you transferred it in during that window, it might be why!
I’ve been working on my own Ribbon Master the past few days. A Shiny Dialga that I’ve named (or am going to when it hits Gen 8, given the character limit on Nicknames in Gen 4) Unbreakable. I also have a Shiny Arceus named Over Heaven that is _almost_ a Ribbon Master, just missing the Partner Mark, and am going to catch a Shiny Palkia in Ultra Moon and Shiny Giratina in BDSP in the future, that will also be made into Ribbon Masters.
Actually no! Unown has a far harder time than magikarp due to it only having one move, automatically making you get worse scores every subsequent turn in contests! Magikarp at least has 3 moves to its name (splash, tackle, flail), so it's significantly easier to eventually cheese contests with good luck and contest stats. Also you can get every battle ribbon only using 2 pokemon, even the WiFi ribbon. There are multiple unown RMs in the hall of fame, so quite literally ANY pokemon can be a ribbon master! :D
Wow, this video gave me PTSD Vietman memories lol. I did this last year with a Ralts from XD Gale of Darkness and I do not want to go through this ever again. I don't even know how I managed to do it. Anyway since I already did all of this, I have to say this is a very good guide.
It's pretty sad to know that online will not work next year on 3ds. So I have to get my pokemon over at some point, sadly I don't think that I will be able with everything before gen6 since I don't have that extra thing.
I have one complete ribbon master and it has been. Quite the experience. Not a journey for the faint of heart for sure. And yet, I have a new dream to RM a gen 5 Pokemon from the Dream World! There are people working extremely hard to try reviving it, so maybe someday.....
I've been feeling so anxious ever since they announced that pokebank will shut down soon (it's gamefreak, we all know it's gonna happen super soon lol). I have so many competitive pokemon that I have spent hours breeding for,that need their ribbons. I hate that pokebank is going to end 😢
For the Ribbons available in Gen 6, I prefer getting them in ORAS since they're easier to find. The daily ones and Best Friends are found in the same apartment at Mauville Hills (Best Friends is from Belle's mom[?] at the bottom-right corner); it's the second one to the right if you enter from the northwestmost elevator. In addition, Training can be obtained from the karate guy randomly walking around Dewford Town, and Effort is given by the Breeder at Slateport Market's vitamin stall. You do have to beat the game for Footprint though; the Collector's house is aaaaall the way to the east at the Battle Resort. Side note: I couldn't really understand your instructions for the ORAS Contest strategy, but from the way your Mew had two stars, I figured it was Pump-Up Move, Appeal Move, Pump-Up Move, Appeal Move, and then the Works-Well-When-Pumped-Up Move. After some testing it seems that's about right, since I completely swept the Master Ranks with Bulk Up, Flame Charge, and whatever else I could find in my TM pocket! Side side note: The Walter method takes a while to refresh, so in the meantime I just did the League a few times. Even with no O-Powers, using Happy Hour and an Amulet Coin alone will give you just over 250k per run!
I am currently shiny hunting the event Celebi in VC Crystal, then will move onto to emerald to RNG manip for static encounters there. The celebi even is pain, true full odds shiny hunts are long...
Quick question for anyone attempting the ribbon master journey, Do you need to keep your pokemon on level 50 pass Emerald? Or can I keep leveling up my ribbon master?
You can keep levelling it up once you have the Level 50 Tower Ribbon. The only other thing you have to worry about when it comes to levels is the Footprint Ribbon, but as long as you get it in Generation 4 (or keep it below Level 71 before entering Generation 5), you'll be fine.

Great video, I'm in the middle of a RM journey myself (Currently in Unova, getting ready for Gen 6.) One optimization I was told was that you can basically skip the money grind for the wealthy gen 4 ribbons if you just cash out your battle tower BP after all the ribbons there for protein type materials, and then just sell them. Might not be enough if you're good at the game and clear the ribbons with low attempts, but I had a party of 4 RMs I was bringing through and I had more than enough for all of them by the end.

Ribbons are probably one of if not my favorite mechanics in the game, so whenever i encounter a shiny I make it a mission to slam as many ribbons onto them as i can! Super pleased that ribbons have their message on entry mechanic full force in current gens. I think my last shiny subject to this journey was my shiny Alakazam from Celedon's game corner in leaf green. I never get tired of videos like these. The love for older gens manifests in a compilation of community found infirmation utilized to the fullest. Cant wait for the next one! Keep up the awesome work!
I'd like to mention an interesting quirk regarding the Mini Mark. Pokémon sizes were only a thing as of Let's Go, so any Pokémon that are from Gen 7 or prior never had any size assigned to them. Pokémon from SwSh or BDSP also get sizes assigned but since the function served no gameplay Gamefreak didn't bother doing anything to any Pokémon that came from Bank. That was until Legends came out where size now played a role, so now any Pokémon from Bank that entered Legends will have automatically a set value of 0, meaning they are eligible to get the Mini Mark in SV. However as of the SV update for Home any Pokémon that had not entered Legends prior to the update, will have a randomly generated size, essentially fixing this quirk..
What stops me from wanting to do this is the Battle Tree. The contest portion of Gen 6 aren't that bad, but anything dealing with the Battle Frontier, Factory, Tree, etc is something I don't have the patience for.
2:57 For this part I chose to only show the pokemon as they can be encountered in Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, and not including their evolutions just for the sake of simplicity. The only reason that both Scyther and Scizor are there is because Scyther can be found inGale of Darkness and Scizor can be encountered in Colosseum (although only by using the e-reader). But yes - all of the evolutions of those pokemon are currently able to get all ribbons, provided you only evolve into Kleavor after getting all the ribbons in Sword/Shield and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl first.

So for those of us that only have the Switch titles and are now locked out of Gens earlier than 8, is there a separate leaderboard for master ribbon Switch only? I know it isn't nearly as many ribbons, but I'm just curious
You can still do a ribbon master if you only have a switch: a pokemon caught in gen 8-9 can still be a ribbon master if it has all the ribbons it can earn from the games its allowed to enter!
I'm going to catch Shadow Vulpix and Shadow Scyther in Pokemon XD(I don't have Colosseum as I got rid of it and I can't pay the $300 for a copy on Amazon :(). I want to evolve Shadow Scyther into Kleavor. I am splitting the contest ribbons between them - Vulpix/Ninetales will get the Smart, Beauty and Cute contests and Scyther will get the Tough and Cool contests. And yes, Ninetales can be in Scarlet or Violet because it was reintroduced into Kitikami.

Currently shiny hunting Ralts in XD via shiny-lock removal so I can do a ribbon master quest on it. Absolutely gonna come back to this video when I get it ^^
I decided to use mudkip however I know I won’t get the shadow ribbon but I did get the one from colosseum so there’s that. I decided to replay XD and get a shadow Ralts and have them both as my ribbon collecting Pokémon
It’s tragic that Nintendo continues to close their servers everytime they introduce a different/new system. A majority of the PKMN games are on the DS series and I say was the best system of all. Aside from my opinion the Switch is the current system and they’ve already closed down the DS shop(s) and whoever has PKMN Bank/Transporter are the last survivors of these awesome games with the capability of transferring them to Home where they’ll be safe until that server closes down in the distant future. It’s pathetic that they brought back the Gen 1,2 games and even introduced remakes of some of them and in the end Nintendo still decided to close the servers. Outrageous! I myself just completed this ribbon journey with 1 of my own favorites all the way from Gen 3 just for the sake of this matter. It’s too bad that legend/mythical pokemon couldn’t enter the battle towers/maison until gen 8 Sword/Shield. Why did Nintendo take forever to allow it? I don’t know as it’s a stupid decision to ban so many pkmn prior to this. Either way I’m glad I completed this ribbon journey. If only Gamefreak can operate an independent server just for all pkmn generation games so we all can continue to enjoy playing the earlier games indefinitely it’ll be the best course of action for all the players. Will it ever happen? Who knows. I think if enough people voice to Nintendo and or Gamefreak on this matter we may have a chance to save this and be able to continue to transfer from all generations. Otherwise when the inevitable day comes Nintendo closes PKMN Bank/Transporter it’ll be over forever for those games.
So, while I can't take this challenge due to never getting Pokemon Bank, I just want to clarify something that's was left a little up in the air. Are there different "catagories" of Ribbon Master, or is the requirement simply "You must have all ribbons that a certain pokemon can obtain"? Example A: A Typhlosion that didn't evolve from the Shadow in Coli has every ribbon except the one it would have gotten if it had been purified. Is this a Ribbon Master, or does it fail because Typhlosion *can* have that ribbon? Example B: A Pikachu has every Ribbon except the Shadow Ribbon. Is this a Ribbon Master? Example C: A purified XD001 has every Ribbon it can obtain. Is this a Ribbon Master despite missing out on the ribbons locked behind the "Restrected Legendaires" clause? Example D: A Milotic has every ribbon it can obtain. Is this a Ribbon Master, or does it fail because it cannot access Histui?
All examples would have obtained every ribbon available to them, so they would all equally be considered ribbon masters! It doesn't matter if you could obtain more ribbons by catching a different pokemon, or catching the same species of pokemon in a different circumstance (ie as a shadow, in a different generation, at a lower level, etc). If there isn't any possible way to obtain a ribbon using the exact specific pokemon you selected, it does not need that ribbon to be a ribbon master. I'd also like to add another example that would also qualify as a Ribbon Master, for sake of clarity: Example E: a Slowpoke is caught in Generation 6, and obtains every ribbon it can from Generation 6 upward. This Slowpoke is still a ribbon master, even though you could have caught a Slowpoke back in Generation 3 to get more ribbons. At the start of the video I wanted to make it clear that you don't need to pick a pokemon that can access *every* ribbon on its own for it to be considered a ribbon master, as I did by selecting three pokemon that each had ribbons unobtainable to them, instead of picking something like a Piloswine or Sudowoodo that could have got them all on its own (Typhlosion not getting the Galar Champion, Sableye not getting the Hisui Ribbon, Mew not getting any battle ribbons, Metang not getting any Gen 3 Ribbons, etc.). I admit I could have been a bit clearer in the script itself, I just couldn't find a way to express it succinctly enough, given how many different variables and clauses there would be to explain - although I added the note at 1:47 to clarify the one real rule for a verified Ribbon Master: collecting as many ribbons as are available to YOUR pokemon.

Wait, wouldn't "Sturdy Shedinja" not work in gen 4? Sturdy only got the properties of surviving at 1hp in gen 5, in gen 4 it only blocked OHKO moves. Sturdy Shedinja would be absolutely worthless in gen 4.
Yeah, my bad - there's a lot of weird hacked mons you can run into and I think I got that mixed up with Wonder Guard Spiritomb/Sableye tactics while I was writing that part.
So with the Nintendo Network [?] shutting down in April, is it no longer possible to have a Ribbon Master, or as long as we have access to wifi, Bank, Transporter, and Home we're in the clear?
Bank is one of the few services that will continue to remain online after the shutdown, so as far as the Ribbon Master challenge is concerned, it doesn't change anything.
On my birthday, 12/7, I plan to make a Ribbon Master out of either Sneasel or Dusclops depending on which of the GameCube games I obtain(Sneasel if Colosseum or Duskull if XD). I don’t need a GameCube due to having a Wii that is backwards compatible with GCN games and can connect with a GBA Link Cable(Which I *do* need). But that is just the start. I also have to make a Colosseum Doubles team for the Earth Ribbon and get an Emerald cartridge. The Emerald cartridge might have a good save already, so getting a used Cartridge is a good idea imo. I can get some help from a friend who has HGSS for the Living Legend ribbon, which is the only Gen 4 ribbon I can’t obtain. Hopefully I find my lost Pokémon Y cartridge for the ribbons there. If not, I’ll ask for help again. Then, I’ll do the rest of the ribbons from Omega Ruby to Violet. As soon as I complete my Sword Hardcore Nuzlocke on my channel. I haven’t done another episode due to college. Hopefully, I find the time to survive it, let alone complete my Nuzlocke so I can get the “Ultimate Ribbon Master” as of today before April!
Question: are the contest ribbons in original DPPt obtainable in BDSP? Am I really required to do DPPt contest or I can skip this til I go back to Sinnoh in BDSP?
BDSP uses the same contest ribbons as ORAS, as all the contest ribbons from Gen 3 and 4 contribute to the Contest Memory ribbon; skipping the DPPt contest ribbons means your contest Memory ribbon can't be gold.
I've pushed it off for a long time but 2 days ago I finally transferred a lot of my shinies and competeitive pokemon from sun/ultra sun to my pokemon home/BPSP/Arceus (I don't have scarlet or violet as I don't think I would enjoy it but may purchase the gen 5 remakes). I actually have a copy of Black 2 I bought like 3 years ago specifically to bring over my Platinum pokemon as I have event pokemon such as the original shaymin and darkrai along with my first ever shiny in platinum still. I just have to get around to actually beating black 2 to bring them from platinum into black 2 and then into bank which can be transferred into home. I should probably do that sooner rather than later actually. Edit: I have 3 3DS's but gave one away so now I actually have 2, and got worried when the first one I turned on didnt have Bank installed but luckily my 2nd one still had bank on it.
Great video, inspired me to take on the challenge myself! I do want to say that there is item duplication in ruby and sapphire that works on dry batteries as well with some mail glitches, although it can't clone pokemon.
DLC Part 2 Update: There is one new ribbon that was added in this DLC, but it cannot be earned on any of your own pokemon (at least not through legitimate means), so this guide is still up to date as of Indigo Disk!
Are there any new additions to the list of pokemon that can get all the ribbons in DLC 2?

This is honestly so crazy impressive. Having a shiny quilava traded across two decades of games earning all ribbons only to evolve them involve into version that didn't exist in the past. Without video proof I would have just assumed clearly this was hacked. I'm also currently playing through gens 3 through 7 again to try and make sure that I have as many pokémon in home as possible. Although I don't think I have the time to go for true mastery I will be stopping to earn some of the easier ribbons along the way

@@tonybrewer7536The Teddiursa line is sadly not available in Galar. I know a ribbon master is just "earn as many ribbons as possible on any given Pokémon", but in this case I think they're referring to getting maximum ribbons since they're bringing up shadow Pokémon

This challenge is both incredibly sick and sickening.
At first glance, it seems a bit like torture to do so much farming while following so many rules and buying so many games, yet, there is something genuinely cool about having a Pokemon that is 100% yours, unique and a clear representation of your past endeavors.
Well done to you, and anyone who finishes this challenge and I'm glad that your own shadow crystal goblin got enough ribbons to drown in them like Scrooge McDuck.

I’m planning on just using emulators up until Gen 8. As far as I see it, as long as I’m not genning or hacking, all is well. Plus, I can emulate GBA linking and Pokétransfer as well, so I can make sure I can pass legitimacy checks

@@JessieIsRawrdesmume and melonds allow for gba pak insertion, and both allow for "multiplayer" by opening a second instance of the emulator on your computer. so everything checks out till you try to transfer from 5 to 6 which involves transporter and bank which creates some new data on the mon that if you dont have, Home will reject it
If you have a modded 3ds it's very easy to do so since you can have Gen 3-7 on one platform (with the exception of GameCube of course). But essentially you can use a program called PKSM and this can function like Bank and let's you edit pokemon, transfer between games with no minigames or cooldown and many other features. The only thing you'd really need Bank for is to transfer to the switch games. Also if you happen to have a modded Wii and GameCube/GBA link cable, you can transfer your saves to and from GBA cartridges which means if you wanted to you can play a pokemon game using an emulator on your phone, and then transfer your save to your actual game! Also very nice to have a backup of your save if you had a game from your childhood to preserve it. Hope this helps and sorry for the long comment! @JessieIsRawr
The ultra sun/moon battle tree ruled. The boss battles kept you on your toes and there were tons of great cameo characters. Alola is so underrated man...
I honestly agree. I loved the alola games. They weren’t my first Pokémon game but they were the first games where I kind of fully understood what I was doing. So I have a lot of nostalgia for the alola games. Hell I have a team skull tattoo. I’m almost finished with my ribbon master quest and the battle tree gave me a hard time but all the cameos were cool.
Fun Fact: the Black Orlov was a cursed diamond said to have been plucked from the eye of a divine statue, and caused three of its previous owners to all jump off of buildings. Hopefully I haven't jynxed myself with that particular nickname...
Also if anyone is curious how he named an event Pokemon you can trick the Name Rater in Gen 3 if you have the same name, gender, trainer ID and secret ID as the event, or in Gen 4 just by having a matching trainer ID

I'd love to do this with a Scyther from XD gale of Dakrness and have it be a Kleavor. This is fantastic!
Yeah, I was looking at which Shadow Pokémon can get absolutely every Ribbon and get new evolutions in later games and Kleavor was the one that stood out the most.
Other options being Dusknoir, Mamoswine, Gallade, Froslass and Magnezone. All of those can evolve immediately in gen 4 though, and only Gallade and Froslass could have been evolved into something different in gen 3 instead, so none of them are as much of a visible show of dedication.
Well, that plus Scyther is probably the unevolved Pokémon from that list most able to contribute in battle, something that I'm sure will make it easier to hold off so long on evolving it.
Extra special bonus points if you catch it in a Dive Ball or Repeat Ball which are only available in XD by trading them in as held items on Pokémon, or a Luxury Ball which you only get one of without doing the same. Especially since all three will have regular Pokéball rates on Scyther in XD, except I suppose a Repeat Ball if you _also_ trade in a different Scyther before going for the catch.

Snorlax looks like the mon to choose for the most future gen proof ribbon mon if youre gonna choose a shadow mon thats in every game. Even if its not included in upcoming gens immediately. It will probably be in every gen by end of each games lifespan for being such a dominant crowd favorite. Scizor and Chansey are almost there but i feel they could be left out because it doesnt hit the omega favorite list.

One of my most prized possessions is my shiny Sneasel i hunted in colosseum, after 7586 resets he finally shined for me, and i've ribbon mastered him 100% using pokemon i personally trained and caught.
The feeling of pride and accomplishment i feel everytime i look at him knowing i had to bust my ass, experience all pokemon had to offer and i didn't take any shortcuts is a damn good feeling.

Man, I actually have all the incredients to do this... And a few of my favorite pokemon are even available as shadow pokemon (Medicham, Electabuzz and Farfetch'd). This seems like such an impressive achievement though, just by time investment alone. Not to mention the stuff you need to learn. The fact that there's a few mini guides in here (for pokeblocks and EVs) is emblematic of that.
Honestly, the biggest reason I'm hesitating, is the Gen4 contests. Rythm games are such an annoyance to me. I seem to remember it was also kinda finicky to use the touch screen like this as a leftie (though the XY training courses are much worse in that regard, especially the later ones)
I know the struggle of being left-handed and playing certain games that expect you to use buttons + touch screen at the same time (Kid Icarus Uprising was the WORST for this) - You can also use the button inputs for Gen 4 contests if that helps though.

Another kind of cut bit of content were ribbons associated with the 2008-2012 competitive championships. They varied from ribbons commemorating attending the event to watch, down to the exclusive ribbons handed out for winning worlds or a given regional I think. You can hack these in, and seem to be present from the 5th gen onwards. Obviously they're probably not going to be considered for this challenge due to the elusive nature surrounding them
You know coming from gen 8 as my first real game, times like these make me wish the older games were not so inaccessible because I would love to build a shiny ribbon master gardevoir from Colesseum. Still, there is no way in hell I would be able to afford, or WANT to afford all the necessary hardware just to be able to access all of that stuff. Like the nostalgic journey to get them is awesome, but as a whole? It's meh.

When the day comes where Pokémon Bank closes down for good, many of those Pokémon are going to be extremely valuable.
Regarding the eReader cards: There are some good scans of the cards online. If you print them out to proper scale, they usually work with the eReader. If I remember correctly, the eReader berries do not work on non-Japanese copies of Pokemon Emerald. They should work on all versions of Ruby and Sapphire.

Regarding BDSP, i strated my recents master ribbons from Alola. While the contest ribbons don't give me any problem i found my self struggling with the weekley ribbons, so i ask on the current version of BDSP there is a way to time skip to make it possible to get this set of ribbons faster? I ask becouse i got the first one yesterday but then i realize that, unlike OR/AS, this ribbons no longer get awarded to the entire team just the first one in your party. So there is a way to time skip? Or any possible exploit for this have beign removed in the current version of the game? Becouse i stupidly try using the old way to time skip in D/P but i got lock out for 24h regarding the time based events.

This is such a great video. I love both yours and ToastyToes' videos on this subject. I remember thinking about this a long time ago and looked it up, and I found someone doing it with a Smeargle from XD. I've always wanted to do it myself, but never have. I would probably only go up to gen 6 (maybe 7) though as I'm not too interested in the later gens.
Hisuian Typhlosion is ADORABLE though, I like it even more than normal Typhlosion whom is already my favorite starter. Great choice :)
I would recommend researching the perfect poffin mixtures to get all of the contest stats maxed out because my Raichu had a VERY hard time getting through the Master contests.
Yeah having good stats is a huge boost. I did it with not great stats and it was tough but it’s possible.

If you caught it in Generation 8, that can still count as a ribbon master! Even though you could catch Azumarill in gen 3, it would still be a ribbon master as long as you got every ribbon that your azumarill was able to (and since you can't transfer back to gen 7, you would only need the ribbons from SWSH, BDSP and Scarlet/Violet)

I also have my very own Ribbon Master.
It is my Jolly Hidden Ability 5IVs(non-max sp attack) Garchomp that I hatched back in Y version.
Sure I couldve started back in Gen 4 for Garchomp but at the time, if I wanted a hidden ability Garchomp. I would have to start at Gen 5 or Gen 6 since there are no items that changes abilities at the time. Also theres no ribbon in Gen 5 anyways so starting with Gen 6 for HA Garchomp is already good enough.
Aside from Gens 3 to 5, My Garchomp got all the ribbons from Pokemon Y until Pokemon Violet. It even has the mark for the smallest size. (Bruh, my Garchomp is shorter than my character in Violet. 💀)

By chance, did you transfer your garchomp into hisui? For a time it automatically set the height scale value of transferred Pokémon to 0, so if you transferred it in during that window, it might be why!

I’ve been working on my own Ribbon Master the past few days. A Shiny Dialga that I’ve named (or am going to when it hits Gen 8, given the character limit on Nicknames in Gen 4) Unbreakable.
I also have a Shiny Arceus named Over Heaven that is _almost_ a Ribbon Master, just missing the Partner Mark, and am going to catch a Shiny Palkia in Ultra Moon and Shiny Giratina in BDSP in the future, that will also be made into Ribbon Masters.
Note that magikarp most likely is impossible to ribbon master. The contests basically require insane luck and then you have the wifi tower

Actually no! Unown has a far harder time than magikarp due to it only having one move, automatically making you get worse scores every subsequent turn in contests! Magikarp at least has 3 moves to its name (splash, tackle, flail), so it's significantly easier to eventually cheese contests with good luck and contest stats. Also you can get every battle ribbon only using 2 pokemon, even the WiFi ribbon. There are multiple unown RMs in the hall of fame, so quite literally ANY pokemon can be a ribbon master! :D

Wow, this video gave me PTSD Vietman memories lol. I did this last year with a Ralts from XD Gale of Darkness and I do not want to go through this ever again. I don't even know how I managed to do it. Anyway since I already did all of this, I have to say this is a very good guide.

It's pretty sad to know that online will not work next year on 3ds. So I have to get my pokemon over at some point, sadly I don't think that I will be able with everything before gen6 since I don't have that extra thing.
I have one complete ribbon master and it has been. Quite the experience. Not a journey for the faint of heart for sure. And yet, I have a new dream to RM a gen 5 Pokemon from the Dream World! There are people working extremely hard to try reviving it, so maybe someday.....
My current ribbon master Gardevoir has been to the Dream World. I even had the foresight back in the day to screen shot it.
I've been feeling so anxious ever since they announced that pokebank will shut down soon (it's gamefreak, we all know it's gonna happen super soon lol). I have so many competitive pokemon that I have spent hours breeding for,that need their ribbons. I hate that pokebank is going to end 😢
For the Ribbons available in Gen 6, I prefer getting them in ORAS since they're easier to find. The daily ones and Best Friends are found in the same apartment at Mauville Hills (Best Friends is from Belle's mom[?] at the bottom-right corner); it's the second one to the right if you enter from the northwestmost elevator. In addition, Training can be obtained from the karate guy randomly walking around Dewford Town, and Effort is given by the Breeder at Slateport Market's vitamin stall. You do have to beat the game for Footprint though; the Collector's house is aaaaall the way to the east at the Battle Resort.
Side note: I couldn't really understand your instructions for the ORAS Contest strategy, but from the way your Mew had two stars, I figured it was Pump-Up Move, Appeal Move, Pump-Up Move, Appeal Move, and then the Works-Well-When-Pumped-Up Move. After some testing it seems that's about right, since I completely swept the Master Ranks with Bulk Up, Flame Charge, and whatever else I could find in my TM pocket!
Side side note: The Walter method takes a while to refresh, so in the meantime I just did the League a few times. Even with no O-Powers, using Happy Hour and an Amulet Coin alone will give you just over 250k per run!
I am currently shiny hunting the event Celebi in VC Crystal, then will move onto to emerald to RNG manip for static encounters there.

Quick question for anyone attempting the ribbon master journey, Do you need to keep your pokemon on level 50 pass Emerald? Or can I keep leveling up my ribbon master?
You can keep levelling it up once you have the Level 50 Tower Ribbon. The only other thing you have to worry about when it comes to levels is the Footprint Ribbon, but as long as you get it in Generation 4 (or keep it below Level 71 before entering Generation 5), you'll be fine.

Great video, I'm in the middle of a RM journey myself (Currently in Unova, getting ready for Gen 6.) One optimization I was told was that you can basically skip the money grind for the wealthy gen 4 ribbons if you just cash out your battle tower BP after all the ribbons there for protein type materials, and then just sell them. Might not be enough if you're good at the game and clear the ribbons with low attempts, but I had a party of 4 RMs I was bringing through and I had more than enough for all of them by the end.

Ribbons are probably one of if not my favorite mechanics in the game, so whenever i encounter a shiny I make it a mission to slam as many ribbons onto them as i can! Super pleased that ribbons have their message on entry mechanic full force in current gens. I think my last shiny subject to this journey was my shiny Alakazam from Celedon's game corner in leaf green.

I'd like to mention an interesting quirk regarding the Mini Mark.
Pokémon sizes were only a thing as of Let's Go, so any Pokémon that are from Gen 7 or prior never had any size assigned to them. Pokémon from SwSh or BDSP also get sizes assigned but since the function served no gameplay Gamefreak didn't bother doing anything to any Pokémon that came from Bank. That was until Legends came out where size now played a role, so now any Pokémon from Bank that entered Legends will have automatically a set value of 0, meaning they are eligible to get the Mini Mark in SV. However as of the SV update for Home any Pokémon that had not entered Legends prior to the update, will have a randomly generated size, essentially fixing this quirk..

What stops me from wanting to do this is the Battle Tree. The contest portion of Gen 6 aren't that bad, but anything dealing with the Battle Frontier, Factory, Tree, etc is something I don't have the patience for.

2:57 For this part I chose to only show the pokemon as they can be encountered in Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, and not including their evolutions just for the sake of simplicity. The only reason that both Scyther and Scizor are there is because Scyther can be found inGale of Darkness and Scizor can be encountered in Colosseum (although only by using the e-reader). But yes - all of the evolutions of those pokemon are currently able to get all ribbons, provided you only evolve into Kleavor after getting all the ribbons in Sword/Shield and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl first.

You can still do a ribbon master if you only have a switch: a pokemon caught in gen 8-9 can still be a ribbon master if it has all the ribbons it can earn from the games its allowed to enter!

I'm going to catch Shadow Vulpix and Shadow Scyther in Pokemon XD(I don't have Colosseum as I got rid of it and I can't pay the $300 for a copy on Amazon :(). I want to evolve Shadow Scyther into Kleavor. I am splitting the contest ribbons between them - Vulpix/Ninetales will get the Smart, Beauty and Cute contests and Scyther will get the Tough and Cool contests.
And yes, Ninetales can be in Scarlet or Violet because it was reintroduced into Kitikami.

Currently shiny hunting Ralts in XD via shiny-lock removal so I can do a ribbon master quest on it. Absolutely gonna come back to this video when I get it ^^
I decided to use mudkip however I know I won’t get the shadow ribbon but I did get the one from colosseum so there’s that. I decided to replay XD and get a shadow Ralts and have them both as my ribbon collecting Pokémon

It’s tragic that Nintendo continues to close their servers everytime they introduce a different/new system. A majority of the PKMN games are on the DS series and I say was the best system of all. Aside from my opinion the Switch is the current system and they’ve already closed down the DS shop(s) and whoever has PKMN Bank/Transporter are the last survivors of these awesome games with the capability of transferring them to Home where they’ll be safe until that server closes down in the distant future. It’s pathetic that they brought back the Gen 1,2 games and even introduced remakes of some of them and in the end Nintendo still decided to close the servers. Outrageous! I myself just completed this ribbon journey with 1 of my own favorites all the way from Gen 3 just for the sake of this matter. It’s too bad that legend/mythical pokemon couldn’t enter the battle towers/maison until gen 8 Sword/Shield. Why did Nintendo take forever to allow it? I don’t know as it’s a stupid decision to ban so many pkmn prior to this. Either way I’m glad I completed this ribbon journey. If only Gamefreak can operate an independent server just for all pkmn generation games so we all can continue to enjoy playing the earlier games indefinitely it’ll be the best course of action for all the players. Will it ever happen? Who knows. I think if enough people voice to Nintendo and or Gamefreak on this matter we may have a chance to save this and be able to continue to transfer from all generations. Otherwise when the inevitable day comes Nintendo closes PKMN Bank/Transporter it’ll be over forever for those games.

So, while I can't take this challenge due to never getting Pokemon Bank, I just want to clarify something that's was left a little up in the air.
Are there different "catagories" of Ribbon Master, or is the requirement simply "You must have all ribbons that a certain pokemon can obtain"?
Example A: A Typhlosion that didn't evolve from the Shadow in Coli has every ribbon except the one it would have gotten if it had been purified. Is this a Ribbon Master, or does it fail because Typhlosion *can* have that ribbon?
Example B: A Pikachu has every Ribbon except the Shadow Ribbon. Is this a Ribbon Master?
Example C: A purified XD001 has every Ribbon it can obtain. Is this a Ribbon Master despite missing out on the ribbons locked behind the "Restrected Legendaires" clause?
Example D: A Milotic has every ribbon it can obtain. Is this a Ribbon Master, or does it fail because it cannot access Histui?
All examples would have obtained every ribbon available to them, so they would all equally be considered ribbon masters!
It doesn't matter if you could obtain more ribbons by catching a different pokemon, or catching the same species of pokemon in a different circumstance (ie as a shadow, in a different generation, at a lower level, etc). If there isn't any possible way to obtain a ribbon using the exact specific pokemon you selected, it does not need that ribbon to be a ribbon master.
I'd also like to add another example that would also qualify as a Ribbon Master, for sake of clarity:
Example E: a Slowpoke is caught in Generation 6, and obtains every ribbon it can from Generation 6 upward. This Slowpoke is still a ribbon master, even though you could have caught a Slowpoke back in Generation 3 to get more ribbons.
At the start of the video I wanted to make it clear that you don't need to pick a pokemon that can access *every* ribbon on its own for it to be considered a ribbon master, as I did by selecting three pokemon that each had ribbons unobtainable to them, instead of picking something like a Piloswine or Sudowoodo that could have got them all on its own (Typhlosion not getting the Galar Champion, Sableye not getting the Hisui Ribbon, Mew not getting any battle ribbons, Metang not getting any Gen 3 Ribbons, etc.).
I admit I could have been a bit clearer in the script itself, I just couldn't find a way to express it succinctly enough, given how many different variables and clauses there would be to explain - although I added the note at 1:47 to clarify the one real rule for a verified Ribbon Master: collecting as many ribbons as are available to YOUR pokemon.

The 3ds is very easy to homebrew, and bank is easy to install that way

I am currently hunting a shiny Murkrow in Diamond to get as many ribbons as possible for it! (I dont have access to the older games) This was a fun watch and extremely useful tool for ribbon hunters :)
Wait, wouldn't "Sturdy Shedinja" not work in gen 4? Sturdy only got the properties of surviving at 1hp in gen 5, in gen 4 it only blocked OHKO moves. Sturdy Shedinja would be absolutely worthless in gen 4.
Yeah, my bad - there's a lot of weird hacked mons you can run into and I think I got that mixed up with Wonder Guard Spiritomb/Sableye tactics while I was writing that part.

So with the Nintendo Network [?] shutting down in April, is it no longer possible to have a Ribbon Master, or as long as we have access to wifi, Bank, Transporter, and Home we're in the clear?
Bank is one of the few services that will continue to remain online after the shutdown, so as far as the Ribbon Master challenge is concerned, it doesn't change anything.

On my birthday, 12/7, I plan to make a Ribbon Master out of either Sneasel or Dusclops depending on which of the GameCube games I obtain(Sneasel if Colosseum or Duskull if XD). I don’t need a GameCube due to having a Wii that is backwards compatible with GCN games and can connect with a GBA Link Cable(Which I *do* need). But that is just the start. I also have to make a Colosseum Doubles team for the Earth Ribbon and get an Emerald cartridge. The Emerald cartridge might have a good save already, so getting a used Cartridge is a good idea imo. I can get some help from a friend who has HGSS for the Living Legend ribbon, which is the only Gen 4 ribbon I can’t obtain. Hopefully I find my lost Pokémon Y cartridge for the ribbons there. If not, I’ll ask for help again. Then, I’ll do the rest of the ribbons from Omega Ruby to Violet. As soon as I complete my Sword Hardcore Nuzlocke on my channel. I haven’t done another episode due to college. Hopefully, I find the time to survive it, let alone complete my Nuzlocke so I can get the “Ultimate Ribbon Master” as of today before April!
Question: are the contest ribbons in original DPPt obtainable in BDSP? Am I really required to do DPPt contest or I can skip this til I go back to Sinnoh in BDSP?
BDSP uses the same contest ribbons as ORAS, as all the contest ribbons from Gen 3 and 4 contribute to the Contest Memory ribbon; skipping the DPPt contest ribbons means your contest Memory ribbon can't be gold.

A coding error? In Scarlet and Violet?
I'm shocked.
I've pushed it off for a long time but 2 days ago I finally transferred a lot of my shinies and competeitive pokemon from sun/ultra sun to my pokemon home/BPSP/Arceus (I don't have scarlet or violet as I don't think I would enjoy it but may purchase the gen 5 remakes). I actually have a copy of Black 2 I bought like 3 years ago specifically to bring over my Platinum pokemon as I have event pokemon such as the original shaymin and darkrai along with my first ever shiny in platinum still. I just have to get around to actually beating black 2 to bring them from platinum into black 2 and then into bank which can be transferred into home. I should probably do that sooner rather than later actually.
Edit: I have 3 3DS's but gave one away so now I actually have 2, and got worried when the first one I turned on didnt have Bank installed but luckily my 2nd one still had bank on it.
Great video, inspired me to take on the challenge myself! I do want to say that there is item duplication in ruby and sapphire that works on dry batteries as well with some mail glitches, although it can't clone pokemon.
