      When I was in university there were 2 movies that we watched over and over. Animal House and the Blues Brothers. To the point we all knew each line before it occurred.

    Thanks for the "what's there now" shots. When I visited the Chicago area in 2013, I drove through Mt. Prospect, but didn't have time to stop and see if any old police cars were for sale. And I drove on a short stretch of "Illinois Highway Four Seven" going to the railway museum in Union. In downtown, I visited the plaza with "Picasso's Puppy Dog". At the local hardware store, if I go by the poultry netting display, I'll say "Chicken wire?!?!?" and in the adhesives section it's "This is glue. Strong stuff!" My wife thinks I've seen the Blues Brothers movie once too often.....

    It was September, 1979. I had just graduated from basic training at Great Lakes. A buddy of mine and I went on leave into Chicago. We happened upon a large, severe pileup of police cars under the Loop, just off the train. I was thinking, "shit! This is Chicago?" We inquired and a cop on site told us they're making a movie.
    "What's the movie." I asked.
    "The Blues Brothers!" He said.

      It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new Blues Mobile or what?

    • @dragondancer1814
      @dragondancer1814 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Franz Liszt When my husband and I were first dating, he drove an ‘88 Grand Fury that was an old cop car. We riffed off this line all the time because it still had the cop wheels, cop suspension, cop shocks, and all that. It also had a Big Boss 4-barrel under the hood, so it kicked ass when you floored it! Unfortunately, that also meant the car was a pig at the gas pump-we joked that you could practically watch the speedometer go up and the gas gauge go down at the same time.
      Now I drive an old fire department utility vehicle that I got from a friend who bought it at a firehouse auction and fixed it up. The fire department logo is gone, but it still has the screaming red paint job and the Scotchlite striping, so it gets mistaken for a utility vehicle from one of the neighboring departments all the time by our paid drivers at first. The 4-wheel drive comes in handy in bad weather or having to turn off the paved road (a common occurrence in our part of the state), but having 8 cylinders under the hood means “Big Red” has the same appetite, gas-wise. Still fun to drive though, especially since I’m a volunteer firefighter in our local community!

      The Bob's Country Bunker sequence was a great representation of the small California town I grew up in. Every line, every shot... everything from the ''both kinds of music'' line to the guy crying in his beer shot. Light blue corduroy bellbottoms with cowboy boots, plaid shirts, padded ski vests and ballcaps. And their attitude towards anything that WASN'T country/western related. Whoever wrote this part did their research. My buddies and me laughed all the way through it.

    That part about the diner neighborhood being all gone is sad. So many cities murder the parts that give them character.

    What about the Holiday Inn Murph & The Magictones we’re performing at?

    • @12barde
      @12barde  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's now the Quality Inn O'Hare Airport. You'll find it on Google street view, but it looks quite different. I wanted to visit it but had too much trouble with the rental car company at the airport wasting too much time.

      12barde I meant they did even cover or talk about the Holiday Inn. They did mention the mall. Big difference.

    Thank you for all of the work you put into this, an awesome revisit of a GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!! I feel like it was just yesterday I was introduced to Jake and Elwood Blues........”The Bluueeess Brothers!!!! I only “love two shows #1 Blues Brothers and #2 the play Fiddler On the Roof (as a stage show) saw original cast whe I was young and got to meet Zero Mostel and all the original cast! I do wish that BB #2 would have been just like #1 but without John ...... Rest In Peace

    I grew up in Dolton, and I kinda remember these places, but I know this where I came from. Its been about 45 years since I was anywhere close to this area. My mom and dad
    watched them wreck the mall....LOL

    Great video. Especially all the small references to the movie, the dialog samples and music (they had that fat, juicy sound) in contrast to the USA of today.
    And of course you cannot visit the mall. It was destroyed by the BB and the hotel was blown up by Carrie Fisher.

      I took my girlfriend, now wife to the State of Illinois Building back in 1997, she had to get copies of custody papers, her ex was pulling some BS. When we walked in, it still looked just like it did in the movie, even the front desk was still there. Felt pretty cool to be in the same place they were...

    I'm bummed no pics from Wauconda & Phils beach #blackpanther. Or Rt12 & 176, where the big crash scene took place. My bro & I where coming home on 176, when they stopped us as they were filming. Driving past the wrecked cars we were like WTF? until the movie.
