Keeps crashing Reaper whenever I tried to load the NAM plug-in ..any ideas why, folks?
Hmmmm I've never had that issue, sorry. Anyone else have an idea?
Ola said you should have a good GPU to run the app, not the CPU. That's mostly the case. If you have already, check PC requirements for the app if your PC specs are suitable or under-performing.
only keep things on pc that you use save space
Great video. To the point.... no BS. Well presented. Cheers
That was the goal! Thank you
Great expose, we are 100% in agreement!
Dude you are absolutely awesome, thanks so much. cheers from Vancouver, Canada. Ed
Thank you 🙏🇨🇦
Great video man, thanks!
Thank you 🙏
Wow thanks man, can't wait to try that out!
Let's go 🔥 👍
thanks for the video, man.
I had heard of this, yes.... but hadn't checked how it worked, yet.
It's like the Napster of Amp & Cab emulations... hihihi..
😄 yes, but this is all legal 👍
Great job!
Thank you 😊
Thank you very much, this site seems so great...
I got you 🙏 it is great 👍
hey steven - i enjoyed the video and i'm excited to see what happens next with this project - just thought it'd be worth mentioning that in the first half of the vid the background music was too loud (or the voice too soft) for me
Thank you for the feedback ❤️ I'll turn it down in the future
Great job bro.
Thank you 🙏
Helpful video but it's very wearing to try to concentrate on it against the booming background music. Background music is just a distraction that adds no information. Let's focus on the voice please.
Thank you 🙏
I use my NAM with the free Kushview Element plugin. It allows you to create a signal chain with plugins with your audio interface just like you would a signal chain on your amp. Cabs, pedals, eq, splitters, whatever you need on a pedal board. Then, you can use that signal chain as one plugin in your DAW. Pretty sweet setup. And FREE!
Yeah? That sounds awesome. I gotta check it out
@@stevenkambach There's not a lot of videos on the Kushview Element, and I'm sure it's capable of more than what I use it for, but just being able to use an infinite plugin signal chain as only one plugin on your DAW is awesome. The possibilities are endless.
I forgot I had come across Elements before. I was looking hard at Gig Performer since it appears to have the ability to integrate a scenes/snapshots feature. Does Element do this as well? Talking about turning plugins on/off on the chain within a Elements preset without having to switch to a different preset and simultaneously sending batches of midi CC or PC codes to specific plugins (e.g. to tun a effect off or change a preset in Amplitube)?
@Tiger1016. If I understand what you're asking, yes. I have several different amp plugins as well as echo, delay, compressors, and equalizers all in the same chain that I can turn on and off according to what sound I need.
@@Mick.Fitzmaurice The Scenes/Snapshots concept I am referring to is something you can find in an Axe Fx, Helix (both hardware and Native), and Quad Cortex. It basically allows you to select a scene number with your mouse (or programming a scene chance via a MIDI CC message) to switch to a different scene and a whole lot of changes can happen at once. Different items in the chain can turn on/off, different chain paths can be activated/deactivated, some of the parameters within a plugin might also be able to be adjusted (e.g. amp settings, reverb mix).
Yes indeed you can't adjust profile like tube amp or amp in amp sim however is good to mention to play around with input knob in NAM, the lower the input the lower the gain so basically from high gain profile you can get some crunch. Of course that's not the same like adjusting gain knob on amp but at least something worth mentioning. Depends on profile it's always worth to try out 😉👍
Cool! I've literally never touched that knob 😄
@@stevenkambach Definitely worth playing about with, majority of my favorite clean sounds are from edge of break and slightly dirty profiles with the input dialled back, just remember and bump up the output so the signal isn't real quiet.
Working in Ableton 10 loving this.
Nice 👍 I've never used Abelton, but have only heard good things about it
@@stevenkambach Ableton is great
Thank you so much for this!!! My god Neural whatever is amazing!
🙏
TYSM, earned a subsrciber
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for the guide! It helps a lot starting, I'm wondered Should I put IR most of the time on to make the result tone sound better?
It depends on the profiles. If the profile was made with a speaker, then no. But, of the profile is just the amp, then yes
Gracias amigo
I got you ❤️
i love open source! anarchy works
anyone can make this more UI friendly and it can still be open source, and i bet they will! great video
Great video , what audio interface you use and what buffer size ?
Thank you 😊 I use a behringer umc22 at 64. Sometimes I'll switch to 128 if I am plugin heavy but I try to keep things simple
Ur awesome
❤️
How do you put a chain together? There are NAM files for FX pedals, but how would that work when you can only select one amp and one cab? Can you chain instances of the NM plugin in your VST selection list?
Yep. You would have to have multiple instances of NAM to do that at the moment
Interesting Topic and good Information. Thanks. (little constructive critique: Since I am not a native English speaker I find the background music a little distracting. Would be much easier if it was a bit quieter...))
Thank you for the feedback! Ill turn it down next time
I am an English speaker and I just found it super annoying lol. Great vid though and I ended up buying the same IR pack which is dope.
@blackie75 nice! It is one of my favorites. My go-to for anything heavy. Glad you like them 👍
@@stevenkambach 😉
Totally agree about the background music
Hi Steven, I were been seeing some Deep Learning Model like CNN etc which also can do the cabinet emulation, i want to konw where is the diffrent between NAM and theirs...
And I were trying recur the open-source code which in github, and this "_detect_input_version" method is to restrict the input file form?
Hello! That is above my pay grade 😄 I am a basic user. I haven't even made a profile. I'd suggest going to the NAM facebook group with technical questions. The creator of NAM is very active there and there is more support there then you will find in the comment section. Good luck 👍
This is great. Thanks! But how to load pedals from Tonehunt? I don’t see a slot or button for that anywhere in NAM.
You have to have a 2nd instance of NAM before your NAM for the amp
@@stevenkambach
Ah ha! Makes sense now :-) thank you so much.
What is an IR and how to I connect my guitar to my laptop?
@mrtuggama IR = Impulse Response. It is basically digital representation of a speaker, cab, mic part of the signal chain.
I did an old video of how to connect a guitar to a computer:
th-cam.com/video/dT10D-prjyM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bWMZ7jg5z20HjNDX
How can be it possible? The sounds look better than I was crazy trying to do on Amplitube for years, can this works on linux?
@@Kimitri I don't know! Sorry
Im not sure if this is a dumb question, im new to amp sims and audio interfaces but im not able to hear the effect of nam in real time while playing, its only when i play back my recording that i hear the sound change by the amp sim. How can i change this?
Sounds like you need to turn on live monitoring in your DAW. That should let you hear the armed track. Look up how to turn on live monitoring in your specific DAW and you should be good. Good luck
@@stevenkambach thankyou so much, it's works now. Got everything figured out and the variety and quality of the tones in nam are insane.
@@akhat452 dude, a win for tech support in the comment section! That is rare. Glad you are up and running
how do you create your own profile, i have a bunch of amps some are modded
Check out Neuralampmodeler.com I have not actually done it. You basically run a certain wav file thru the rig and record it. You then upload the recording (or do it locally) and that generate the profile I think
ok thanks i'm going tonex better suited for what i'm trying to do @@stevenkambach
Is it for bass also?
@julioonesimo7379 yes! Plenty of bass amp profiles out there
Can you cascade a pedal (or three) and an amp? Or is it just ONE model at any given time?
One profile per NAM plugin but you can have as many NAM plugins open in a row as you want
@@stevenkambach How do you put them in a "row"? How do you set the order in that row? All I see is the ability to load a single plugin, nothing else...
@@gdevelek you would have to load up multiple instances of NAM on the same channel in the channel FX in a DAW. You can't do this in the standalone version
@@stevenkambach ...and then Kushview Element comes in and saves the day.For free.
If the person who made the profile wrote anything in the description, I copy/paste it into a text file and throw it into the folder. There really should be a standard on doing that. Maybe a form when they submit? I don't know.
That would be cool. There are a lot of things like that that would make the experience better. Looking forward to seeing where things go from here
I agree, such info should be included in the profile by default. Maybe someone can forward this request to the developer?
Has someone made a simple pedal with the basic EQ and gain, level that can store just 1 profile so you can use it live?
Not that I know of. That would be cool tho 😎
There are some implementations on some DSP hardware, like tonex. I saw it also on a raspberry. We just need one guy who is into the DSP world, to create a NAM pedal. I assume the hardware parts price would be below 50 bucks.
@@UltimateEngineering I’ve since seen a Mod Dwarf pedal/product that can store a particular type of NAM capture file. Surely this is the way it has to go with this. Doesn’t need to be like a tonex just a simple basic digital pedal for storing a few and minor tweaks. Leave the capturing and nitty gritty to home PCs
@@clintwhite3021 I got you, it still needs to be a DSP, maybe two knobs for switching captures, maybe display for showing the name of it and usb, bluetooth, whatever, for datatransfer. I think that would be like one programmer with DSP knowledge programming and testing for one month. Maybe we should do a petetion an collect money for a freelancer, who will do the job.
@@UltimateEngineering Ok thanks for the info. Could be a big demand.
How to use nam parametric od? Accept pedal?
If it is a pedal profile you will have to run two instances of NAM. The first one will have the pedal profile, the second one with the amp profile 👍
@@stevenkambach dont you use nam parametric od program? Only use nam?
@user-iw3xl9gf1g sorry, I misunderstood. I only use NAM. I don't even know what the OD program is. I'll have to check it out
Where do you get an IR from?
Cabs Of Chaos Vol 1 augustroseaudio.com/?ref=apbwb714
what type of chord do i use to plug my guitar into my pc? I'm new to playing guitar and using amps so I am just learning everything
Hey Matt! Welcome. It is a slippy slope once you get started in the world of amp sims and NAM. I'll link my video about it, but I'd recommend getting a USB audio interface in between you guitar and PC. Guitar cable to interface, USB cable from interface to PC.
th-cam.com/video/dT10D-prjyM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EDOH_xdTydXXRURz
@@stevenkambach thank you so much ! I will give it a look
@@MattShowalter 🙏🙏
@@stevenkambach one more quick question regarding the modeler. How do I know what model or IR to download? Like I wanna have a tone that is similar to Jerry Cantrell in Alice in Chains and some other people in mind. How do I know what to pick? Hope that makes sense
@MattShowalter most profiles are profiles of amps so you will need to find out what amps Jerry used if you want to be that specific. Some have made profiles based on tones. You just have to look around. Try some search terms on Tonehunt.org
Does this work with GarageBand?
I am pretty sure! Should work for all DAWs
How do you know what you download does not have a virus attached to it?
I don't, but that goes for any download ever. Thousands of people have it. I haven't heard any issues. It's on neuralampmodeler.com now.
how do i get an ir?
There are several on Tonehunt.org or look through my Playlists to find a whole bunch of free IRs
can you modify and save your own profiles?
Not in the way I think you are suggesting. I think you would have go thru the process of making a new profile with whatever updates. It's not as simple as "save"
@@stevenkambach hi, thanks! so, if I modify an existing profile, am I allowed to save those modifications? Sorry I couldn't try it by miself.
@@mjaa1307 you are allowed to do whatever you want, but you can't just "save" a new profile. You'd have to make a whole new profile
@@stevenkambach I see ok, thanks. I guess creating a new profile demands knowing about programming isn't it? That is out of my reach so I will just use existing ones. Thanks so much for aswering!
when I download tone hunt ampeg its a wav form and I cant load into neural
Looks like you have an ampeg IR, not the NAM file. That is like the cab and mic part of it. NAM file is the "amp", IR is the "cab"
@@stevenkambach Yeah I figured it out after I panicked and ask the question. 🤣🤣 Thanks for the quick response!!
I got you 🙏 glad you figured it out!
When I’m extracting the files are .wav and not .nam
Are the IR files? IRs are wav files
@@stevenkambach okay yes got it! Thanks for the clarification.
Also, there’s a lag when I’m using my ME25 as an audio interface and using NAM on my pc, any tips for that?
@nitinbhawnani drop the buffer size as much as possible. I think mine is at 64. Look up something along the lines of "how to reduce latency in my DAW"
@@stevenkambach I’ll try that, thank you!
wait is this real? holy shit this is crazy
how have i not known this
Welcome 🙏
It doesn't work with IK Multimedia's Irig HD X.
@@RobotShlomo strange. Do all other plugins work as they should?
@@stevenkambach I can't get any sound at all out of it.
Now it won't even start. I'm going to try re-installing it before finally calling it quits.
I really don’t understand how to train and have watched many videos . There’s got to be an easy button ? I know how to search other people’s captures but that’s all
I have never done it so I am not much help. There should be instructions at neuralampmodeler.com
Yup I’ve read …watched instructions …crazy complicated “for me “….cool idea though ….sounds close to a real rig
@JonRayRunawayVealMusic I get that. Sorry I am no help
Dumb question probably…do you have to have a DAW to just play?
I believe there is a standalone version, but I have not tried it
No FX?
Nope. Just amp profiles for now! Plenty of free FX plugins out there tho
@@stevenkambach what s that supposed to mean, lol. The fx should be in the box. It doesn t have s/r also. This is very incomplete. At least kemper were smarter with the effects
@gibson2623 I understand. This is new, open source, and free. This is for profiling gear and you cannot profile most effects because they are time based. You have to model most fx. Can you profile a delay pedal with a Kemper? Technically still in the beta stage. Kempers are great too tho 👍
@@stevenkambach the kemper has built in effects. And they are good. Take care mate. I know what you meant.
weird they have 1k less IRs a month later on tonehunt
That is weird. I've always gotten my IRs From elsewhere tho.
what do you recommend? I don't play guitar at all so all of this is foreign to me but I use ableton's stock amp plugin a lot for sound design and I wanted to branch out with more diverse sounds. @@stevenkambach
reaper is no longer free :(
Free unlimited trial. Every time it loads you click "still evaluating" after the countdown
I use an assisted listening device (as I am deaf) but your background music is waaaaaaaay too loud…I would have subscribed but this ruins your review info…pity about that
Lol I turned it down in videos since then. Feel free to stay unsubscribed tho 😄

Yes effin way 👏

ParametricOD says virus
Not a virus but you do you
Dialog OR music. That is so fundamental to video production it is hard to imagine anyone still unaware. I really want to know what you have to say about the NAM. But listening to your video is unbearable. Please, please repost.
I won't repost, but you can find other videos. I have lowered the music for all videos after this one. I will keep the music though, I like it. If that is a deal breaker, then 👋
is this some kind of joke? seems un-usable,1:30 WTF is a DUA
It is completely usable. If you can move a file, you can use NAM. If you don't want to, then don't. I don't know what DUA is or what you are talking about. Good luck 👍
@@stevenkambach no no sorry i couldn't get it to work the website might be down seems like it has a broken link, its recommending anaconda downloader?!? and look complicated and sketchy, I got one called TONEX but has soo much delay and sounds very bad i'm not sure what's wrong,
