You so lucky to be young in this era bro, I struggled so many years to figure out how the f I was supposed to get a decent tone in the 90s with only information source crap magazines and crap shops trying to sell you a metal zone and a valvestate 😂
Hey Ola! I made the UI look of the Neural Amp and I just wanted to say that it makes me so happy to see it on your channel :) Love your content, been following you since the first videos
I've been using NAM for a few months now and it has been my go to - replaced all of my other modelers (free and paid). The community of people profiling their amps is huge and the quality is overwhelmingly great. Now that Ola is on board this thing is gonna blow up even bigger i think.
I wish there was a $100 preferably micro/mini NAM pedal I could put on my pedal board. I'd only need a 1 line display to pick an amp to load and mini pots for EQ and noise gate, nothing fancy.
Hi, Ola! Steve here. Really excited to see you giving NAM a try! I'd love to get in touch and see if I can't help make the models of your gear better. Cheers!
Your "The One" IR is stellar - I've had it since it came out and it's on almost all of my recordings. Fully worth the cost - crazy good impulse response.
This is awesome, Ola! Brings me back to the days when I was scraping over the internet for free plugins, especially amp sims hahaha Stumbled upon your old video about audio production and taught myself. Hope this help people who are just starting out to learn about amp sims and production 🖤🤘
I love using NAM so much. I never thought I'd have access to so many amps, and so many that haven't been made in years. This plugin is awesome. Thank you Ola!
I absolutely love NAM ! A guitar player's dream. Have about 150 amps, pedals,IR's ,and just getting started. Had a huge impact on inspiration in my music. Great for those on a limited budget. Using it with a Presonus 26c studio 6 and the "feel" is great. best thing next to having the real deal !
@@AtomicMeatballGuitar I got a blue Dean From Hell with the lightning as a graduation gift from my family almost exactly a year ago. And now I think I’ll go for the Washburn Boogie Bolt 2. But I’m not too sure. I know that specific guitar is kinda hard to get your hands on, so if it doesn’t work out I’ll probably go for a Dime Slime or Southern Cross.
Hell yeah! I've been following this project for a while but I'm glad to see you trying and enjoying it! Thanks so much for the profile, it sounds killer!

Awesome! I hope you can capture more of your amp collection. NAM has pretty much replaced my Neural DSP plug-ins, simply because I prefer open-source stuff (and even better if they are free to use). If I could replace all of my expensive plug-ins with open-source/free ones that are just as good, I would. The NAM community is also awesome!
Hope it pushes companies like Neural DSP to develop even better products and update old ones. Can't wait for a combination of open-source good sim software (hopefully just about every amp), and high quality paid products.
Neural Amp Modeler has potential to be a huge disruptor. Its currently a bit CPU heavy but sounds amazing!! Right up there with Kemper in terms of functionality and use.
IMO the true potential of this plugin lies in the open source aspect. It's about time that some companies decide to improve the source code and start creating amazing products at a very competitive price. Can't wait to see what the future holds. Cheers!
Thanks for the little tip! I've been using Guitar Rig 6 for a while and I think the effects are pretty lackluster, not to mention how hard it is to get a tone I enjoy. It's not like plugging it into my old amp and have it sound great immediately. Gonna play around with this and see if I can't find some good stuff!
Just tried it in Two Notes Genome CODEX with old Feared guitar DIs from the good ol' Andy Sneap forum days and some Ola IRs... Sounds like Ola all right :)
I have done a couple videos on the neural, aunt modeler, including comparing the Satan and the chug pedal captures I made. It is really cool software and it is awesome to see you give it a try. Thank you for posting a capture of your Satan! 🤘🏻
Would be cool to see you testing out the Mod Dwarf pedal with the Aida-X model player plugin. That should bridge the gap between open source amp capturing and hardware to play it on (other than a pc)
Ola - use Ozone 8 to make a EQ Capture of your actual amp. Then use that EQ curve overtop of the plugin and see if it helps close the gap. If so - create a new impulse response of your exisiting impulse + the EQ curve. That should help you REALLLLLLY make it near identical if you cared. Curious how that turns out.
Waste of time, honestly. Sneap has been using the Kemper on pro metal albums for a decade now, and the ToneX and NAM are both producing better results than the Kemper, both in terms of accuracy and feel/response. They are more than good enough as is.
I want to say that as a music producer, learning how to capture the amp is as ESSENTIAL as capturing the IR of the speaker and mic position. You dont want to get the perfect tone, then bump the knobs by accident. It is a super easy process that will save headaches
All those software modelers are super cool. Nowadays I just sit in front of my PC in headphones 99% of the time and switch on my amp just occasionaly. However I still prefer to bring the amp to play live as it is the most convenient way to play and you are ready for any kind of shit that may happen on the venue.
Ola! You rock 🤘 this is one of the best sounding amps in my opinion. Thank you for the sampler. I still use the Fortin Roadster 4x12 with the TLM102 as well and have it loaded into my Mooer Radar to be used primarily through my tube amps preamp. It’s a must have. Thank you so much.
This thing is so fckn awesome!... We got it in our rehearsalroom to record us playing new songs and ideas in a live setup and it kicks ass as f..k you know:D Awesome tool... 10 Years ago you would put this as THE sound for your new record... Amazing stuff nowadays🤟 THX for sharing this mate🏴☠
Hey Ola - the model kicks ass. You won't need a PC with a dedicated GPU if you train the model in the Google Colab cloud - you're practically offloading all of the work to Google's data centers.
This sounds pretty good, but something I've noticed about these kinds of modelers is that the amp settings such as EQ and Gain don't feel like they would on the real amp and also they tend to add/remove a lot with only a small adjustment of the virtual knobs. Personally, I like using a parametric EQ in-between the amp and cab simulation in order to have more precision in shaping the tone.
That's just because they're not meant to mimic amp setting EQ and Gain though. They're POST-model, so it's no different than adding your own EQ plugin and making changes that way. The gain knob is just an input function to get your volume up to the required level. There's really no other way to do it in the capture/profile world, not when the whole idea of them is making a snapshot of a tone rather than something you can change
Seeing a profile compared to the real thing, the frequency response is a near-exact match, with the real Satan 50 maybe sounding the _slightest_ bit bolder. So for what is essentially snapshots of specific amp settings (much like IRs are to guitar cabs), this thing does a stellar job. For tweaking though, that's a whole different story. At least, last time I tested the NAM (with downloaded profiles, that is), I was critical of the input knob and the EQ. The input knob just doesn't give you the range of settings that a gain knob would; you can't go from slight breakup to high gain, which you can do even on freeware amp sims. As for the EQ, the frequencies seem to be hard-coded and lack the interplay (does this also occur on the other profilers?) that you would observe on a real amp and, yes, even freeware amp sims. Then again, this means you can practically do whatever you want with the EQ plugin of your choice - let's say, a JCM800-like scoop on a Dual Rectifier profile, for instance. Plus, I have no business criticizing the lack of interplay on the NAM's EQ, when I've been using a parametric EQ in my (virtual) signal chain anyway 🙃
NAM "gain" is just input level (also denoted as such), so it makes sense that it doesn't do what you expect. You really want to use a range of captures to represent an amp and only use the gain / EQ for adjusting to taste, since they are just generic controls (same as QC and toneX, although the toneX EQ is really nice)
You are right on the knobs thing 🤷♂ But that's why all the people do 10-100 captures per amp these days, so u can just choose the most fitting profile with the least amount of tweaking. Thou IMO I prefer the old skool vst amps where u can tweak the amp as u please.
Cool, tried it with seacow hesu demon speaker impulses, sounded pretty damn brutal and quite unique. I don't think I've tried another plugin that sounds quite like that!
😑I hate the fact that my drummer friend uses pro tools... locked into the AAX platform, especially with the free version of pro tools.. I dont really feel like having 2 DAWs just to use a plugin. But I really appreciate Ola's reach to the community by providing this.
