Well, the advantage of this truss rod access is simple. There is no hole at exactly the spot where all those necks break. That hole does make a difference in strength. Am I right? Okay, there are easier sytems.

Old Fender Broncos have the same situation

As a guitar tech, I completely agree, dumbest thing ever, working on a 86 BC Rich right now same thing. I keep cheap “setup sets” of strings for reasons like this.

Guitar players seem to think that JCM800 amps are high gain, but they really are not. It's only when you crank the gain up to 10, and put a boost in front of the amp that you start to get the high gain tones out of it. Zakk has the Gain on ten, and uses an overdrive with the volume all the way up to push the input of the amp. Plus he add gain from the Overdrive pedal depending on how much gain he wants. Not to mention very high output EMG pickups in all his guitars. So, no, the JCM800 on it's own does not get into the modern high gain tones without a lot of help.

The X series Jackson Adrian smith signature stratocaster also has this issue… on an affordable guitar made for newer players who probably don’t know how to work a truss rod. Recipe for disaster, bad enough when people overturn their truss rods, making it so you have to disassemble the guitar to access it…

Boy have I had to do this many many times with my old one, I bought it in a pawn shop for 129$ with an old Estaban grey amp and a cloth bag. I wish I still had it now.

i never found stringing my guitar hard but i can say locking tuners stay in tune better that's the only advantage i see them giving me

I have a Silvertone 60's 1446. It still sounds great. I hope your Harmony does also.

Every fender guitar till 1972 had this. It is not so hard, and you don't have to loosen the strings too much.

Take the strings off and remove the pickguard. Then router a small access point right the neck (in the pickguard) and you don’t have to worry about this.

You should almost never need to adjust a truss rod on a guitar

I'd make a secret little compartment in the pickguard,cut a piece out where truss rod lines up,then use that same piece to put back with a screw eachside,into the meat of the guitar each side of the truss rod,so pickguard looks same.

Maybe cutting part of the guard?

I used a small tiny screw driver and a nice paper clip!! Worked like a charm 👍🏻‼️

Whoever calling this a pain must be the ones who change their car engine oil on each refuel. Like seriously, how often do you need to adjust the truss rod? Once every restring?

How about cutting a small notch out of the pick guard, just enough to get a wrench onto the adjustment?

Dude unscrew the pick ups and the pick guard will come right out no problem just watch out because they are springs similar to one's used in pens so you can adjust your pick up and they don't move around but what I just watch there made me wanna scream

To adjust mine I have to saturate the fretboard and hope it expands a little.

That's similar to the Washburn N4, it's an amazing guitar to play but... In order to access the truss rod you need to take out the neck pickup... 🫠

I had a Harmony Strat, a cream color with a white pickguard in the 80's. I'm sorry I ever got rid of it back in 1987

My 2019 Geddy Lee bass has this terrible feature. I had a luthier cut a bevel in it so now I can access the truss rod with a Stew Mac tool. Best mod ever, and it looks good too.
