Dragon Ball ending after the Cell saga is an American fan theory because of how popular Gohan is here. But Toriyama never said he wanted it to end after Cell. If anything, Toriyama said he wanted Dragon Ball to end way before Gohan was even born.
@@AssasiNater5001 Another fan theory. Part of this just stems from how Toriyama ends major arcs and how the anime presents the end. How Friezas arc ends its like he could put down the series and come back to it or not. A legend had been created. Goku was off on another world on a different adventure. Vegeta is off looking for him and Earth is safe once again. How Cells arc ends Goku is dead and wants to stay dead and a new hero is there to stand up and everyone has great character development. He ends Z on a similar note. Goku training the next generation and everyone just went through some development. Vegeta at a similar point of defeat except not depressed about it. He's at peace with Goku surpassing him and accepts him. You can go back to the end of Dragonball anime specifically, it ends with a sense of finality. Even GT stuck the end of the last arc. Super has had the overarching story from the start that prevents it from finality. You know theres more because Beerus is still around. That mountain hasnt been climbed.
That’s is a misconception made by the fans. Toriyama has never stated or implied that he wanted to end the series at Cell. He said that he planned to end it at the 23rd Budokai, Frieza, and Buu Sagas, but never Cell
Obviously Toriyama's word is king, but when you look at Goku's second death, Gohan being set as the hero for a new series, and Vegeta's wounded pride from Goku's death that it had all the implications other arcs that were supposed to end the series. This one felt the most conclusive of the DBZ arcs if you asked me.
@@retrorebound8887 I don't really agree. I think ending with the Cell Saga would leave an empty void in the series. Because we don't have a conclusion to Goku's character arc. And even Toriyama said he was going to have Gohan be the mc of the Buu Saga, but it wouldn't have been fulfilling if Gohan beat Buu. And he is entirely correct. Ending the series with Gohan would go against the narrative of Dragon Ball, that being teamwork, and how the power of others makes one strong. Which is why Buu is defeated with everyone contributing. I just don't think Cell's defeat truly shows this.
@@retrorebound8887 i love the cell saga, but I just don't think it wouldve been a satisfying conclusion to the series. But that's just my opinion, and it seems Toriyama thinks the same
@@retrorebound8887 He was originally going to end the series after Frieza, but Jump editors made him continue the series because it was simply too popular to end. That’s why the story feels more cohesive from Saiyan-Frieza sagas. With Goku achieving the legacy Super Saiyan form and defeating Frieza, the tyrant that killed his race. It all comes full circle. As much as I love Cell and Buu sagas, it does begin to show its cracks a bit in the writing and plot department compared to earlier arcs.
Cell Saga was never supposed to be the end. People just assume it, because it would‘ve been a fitting end. However, Toriyama never confirmed that. In fact, he said the exact opposite, that he didn‘nt want to end it there.
Banger videos. I looooved these games as a kid. Many hours spent in the car playing this while my mom drove around my older siblings to all of their events
My mom ordered this game for me off of eBay when I was in the fourth grade. I remember the day it arrived, when she picked me up from school in the alleyway and handed me the box when I got into the van. It came from China and I remember thinking how cool it was to be holding something that came from so far away. Tore into that sucker and the rest was history. To this day, Legacy of Goku II is one of my favorite games of all time for sure, and as a kid it put me onto DBZ in a big way. Buu's Fury was fucking sick too, but SUPER easy to breeze through if you just min-max'd your POWER stat. Anyway, also one of the best soundtracks of all time!
What I’d love to see one day that will never come: Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku Trilogy Remake. LoG getting the biggest remake where the story is expanded beyond just Goku where you could play as Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo & Vegeta. In LoG2 the same cast you get and same with Buus Fury. Visually maybe something like a Links Awakening touch up while giving all three the same game mechanics such as Item Equips, Food Pickup, Misc Questing, Secret Bosses, etc.
7:54 ACTUALLY the Cell saga WASN'T "meant to be" the end of DragonBall. In Japan it began in the 80's and the Buu saga ended in 1996. It was already "over" by the time it made it's way to America on tv The anime adaptation premiered in Japan on Fuji Television from April 26, 1989 to January 31, 1996. In the United States, the series initially aired in first-run syndication from September 13, 1996
Been playing these games on and off since release. You can charge your punch in the 2nd & idk if its the 2nd or buus fury but if you hold block and press I think energy blast button you have an energy shield
I was waiting for you to review this since your review of the first game, the 2nd one shines way brighter. I picked it up recently on the original Gameboy advanced and I gotta say they really made a cool DBZ game on the go. As a kid when I purchased this I was thrilled, the game is a little tough but I still loved it. Great video as always Edit: Grats on the sponsor btw
God damn right it’s a good game, heck it’s a GREAT game. A mash up of RPG gameplay with exploration and a bunch of secrets too find, dialogue ripped straight from the anime, some of the best sprite work on the Gameboy advance, and music that still slaps too this day. I LOVE this game, I always wished they would’ve kept it going with the same type of gameplay through GT but we got transformation instead. This game will forever hold a big place in my heart, and I’ll likely go back too it once every year, it’s that good. Buus fury is definitely a close second, I’d say the actual RPG mechanics in that game were more fleshed out with actual stat manipulation but the Cell arc slaps too hard for buu too contend
I remember trading a plan b tech deck for this game. One of the best trades of my life. Still have the loose cartridge 😅 matter fact actually found my lost gameboy with this game today 😅
i grew up with this game - so many good memories with this and buu's fury. DBZ fans were so lucky, I wish all anime fans were given this many products/games lol
Piccolo: "So now we begin the survival advice part of your training." Heavily bruised and battered kid Gohan: "Wh-what?" Piccolo: "The best way to heal is THIS!!" -smashes a rock- Kid Gohan: "MORE fighting?" Piccolo: "no, look! Every time I bash open a gray rock a large, clean and cooked poultry limb hops out all clean and immediately eatable. I don't eat I only drink water but here!" Kid Gohan: "Thanks Mr. Piccolo! Free food inside of rocks! Yummy!" I LOVED this game and would like to run through it again someday.
I'm 26 now and just the past couple years I have started to wish I kept a lot of my childhood possessions. I had that map but it probably got chunked one summer
This is actually my all-time favorite video game. I love this game so much and I take it wherever I go when I go through my day-to-day life. Cheers dude (also, dragon ball was not planned to end at cell. In Japan the buu saga came out the next week in the manga. Just trying to pass on some information)
Speaking of Level Gates, when you had Vegeta and we were looking for Dr Gero, I didn't know where to go and thought the way forward was through the level 50 Vegeta gate in that area. So I got my Vegeta to max level at the start of his story...
My favorite DBZ game ever, next to Buu's Fury and Supersonic Warriors. If it included blocking and ki shielding (like in Buu's Fury) and/or backdashing and side dodging, that would have been *unbelievably* fun.
This game and Buu's Fury was a grind but overall very fun games on the little gameboy advance. I later enjoyed the Attack of the Saiyans game on the Nintendo DS and wish we got another entry,
I wish I still had the poster. I put it up on my wardrobe and I don't remember what happened to it I have the box and manual though. I also have the box and manual for LOG1 and BF. LOG's box though has been flattened.
apparently toriyama didnt necessarily want to end the series specifically at the end of the cell saga. He's said in an interview that he wrote the story in a way in which he could end it at multiple different points. I think with that context you can really see how like every saga really could have been the end of the whole series in a way that's different from not only super but a lot of shonen manga today.
Now that I think about it yea it definitely could’ve ended after a few different sagas. It could’ve forsure ended right after goku beats frieza, could’ve ended after cell etc. I do think dbz went on just a little too long tbh, idk I never liked much of the buu saga. There are parts of it that are amazing like majin vegeta vs goku, vegetas final atonement which unfortunately gets immediately undone and takes all the impact out of that sacrifice.
George Lucas wrote Star Wars in a similar way. The saga could have ended at Return of the Jedi and it would have been satisfying, because George wasn't sure if he'd make more, so he wrote it as an ending that tied all the loose ends. A New Hope also ends this way, aside from Vader living.
My memories with THIS GAME run SO DEEEP. This was my 2nd EVER Gameboy game. I'll never forget Monster's Inc on the 1st model GBA that i somehow lost.....but MY NEXT gba was the SP model with the Backlight INSIDE. Mannn i was so lucky. This game AND the Shrek 2 movie (on Gameboy advance video) and the gba didnt have a regular headphone jack so my dad bought me the headphones that were made specifically for it. GOOD TIMES MAN. RIP dad👼
Bro. This was my very first Game Boy Advance game. I liked the game so much that I went back to get Legacy of Goku 1 and saw how terrible it was in comparison, then got Buu's Fury.
This is probably one of my favourite GBA games out there. Buu's Fury was decent but in my opinion the item system ruined a lot in this game and was really not needed. It was also insanely easy compared to Legacy of Goku 2.
Most people say Buu's Fury was better because of more features, but I always had way more fun playing this one. It felt more balanced in terms of difficulty (although you could trivialise it if you got really good at it), and I felt that the music was better
Hey, can anybody help? Looking to find out the name of the song of that guitar chilled out version of Cha-La-head-cha-la in the intro Anyone know the name of the song? Thanks
I recently finished Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury for the first time. I had the first game back when that released and finished it multiple times and it took me 20 years to finally finish the other 2 games in the series!
Legit bought 1&2 a couple weeks ago. I have my buus fury since launch day. This will keep me occupied as hurricane Ian passes through the next couple days (Tampa)
I have only bad memories of the original Legacy of Goku. I have only great memories of LoG 2 and Buu's Fury. Buu's Fury was definitely my favorite in the trilogy but I'd probably put LoG 2 above it as better designed (simply because Buu's Fury is so easy to get overpowered, and you can stonewall enemies so that half the time they can't even fight back). Great video! Found ya through the LoG 1 video and was looking forward to this one.
You know a game is gonna be a treasure when each character's name is consistently written with a (C) or TM after them. But seriously, this is, without a doubt, the biggest gaming glow-up I've ever seen in my 32 years. I tend to be really forgiving of bad games, but LoG1 is absolute trash. And then the same developers, a year later, put out one of the best DBZ games ever and one of the best action-RPGs ever. It's incredible.
A great vid one thing that was a bit off was about the ki charge thing. It is actually possible but takes a long time without any movement so yea not very useful when there are multiple opponents aroundm

Ending the series with Gohan would go against the narrative of Dragon Ball, that being teamwork, and how the power of others makes one strong. Which is why Buu is defeated with everyone contributing. I just don't think Cell's defeat truly shows this.
@@joeker5208 That's fair. At the end of the day, you're correct that it's never officially been said by Toriyama himself!
My favorite when I was a kid. Seriously one of the best anime based video games ever made.
I adore the soundtrack from these games, especial Legacy 2 and Buu's Fury.
Ioved playing as Hercule too. Like his character actually felt weak somehow while you were playing with him. Really great game
Well he WAS the weakest character in game
It would be cool too seeing certain villains as bosses that weren't added in the trilogy like garlic jr, turtles , cooler v2
I replayed this recently and the opening track brought a tear to my eye too.
7:54 ACTUALLY the Cell saga WASN'T "meant to be" the end of DragonBall. In Japan it began in the 80's and the Buu saga ended in 1996. It was already "over" by the time it made it's way to America on tv
The anime adaptation premiered in Japan on Fuji Television from April 26, 1989 to January 31, 1996. In the United States, the series initially aired in first-run syndication from September 13, 1996
I think he was referring to the original Japanese airing of the cell saga, not the game
Awesome video!
Yes please do Buu’s Fury
One of my music moments is Majoras Mask when you play the song with Darunias baby brother. Always brings me back to playing the game when I was 12
I remember trading a plan b tech deck for this game. One of the best trades of my life. Still have the loose cartridge 😅 matter fact actually found my lost gameboy with this game today 😅
You save outside Capsule Corp. No need to fly back to Goku's gouse.
I can remember being at my Dad's house, 13, good summer vacation. I remember going fishing and bringing my gba. It's all so vivid.
10:44 "let's talk about the game"
You may as well start here if you don't wanna see someone unbox a game for 10 minutes
Honestly, really considered just putting it on Sponsorblock but it would literally be almost half the damn video! 😭
i grew up with this game - so many good memories with this and buu's fury. DBZ fans were so lucky, I wish all anime fans were given this many products/games lol
Piccolo: "So now we begin the survival advice part of your training."
Heavily bruised and battered kid Gohan: "Wh-what?"
Piccolo: "The best way to heal is THIS!!" -smashes a rock-
Kid Gohan: "MORE fighting?"
Piccolo: "no, look! Every time I bash open a gray rock a large, clean and cooked poultry
limb hops out all clean and immediately eatable. I don't eat I only drink water but here!"
Kid Gohan: "Thanks Mr. Piccolo! Free food inside of rocks! Yummy!"
I LOVED this game and would like to run through it again someday.
I'm 26 now and just the past couple years I have started to wish I kept a lot of my childhood possessions. I had that map but it probably got chunked one summer
Man I remember getting this game and a GBA SP for my birthday back then. Such a great time! I would love to play it again now. RIP to the GOAT!
Lmao
My favorite DBZ game ever, next to Buu's Fury and Supersonic Warriors. If it included blocking and ki shielding (like in Buu's Fury) and/or backdashing and side dodging, that would have been *unbelievably* fun.
Spoiler alert: all characters in legacy 2 max at 50 and Buu's fury is 200
I think we all found this incredible compared to the 1st.
This game and Buu's Fury was a grind but overall very fun games on the little gameboy advance. I later enjoyed the Attack of the Saiyans game on the Nintendo DS and wish we got another entry,
It's pretty hilarious how you were holding those scissors. 😆
I wish I still had the poster. I put it up on my wardrobe and I don't remember what happened to it
I have the box and manual though.
I also have the box and manual for LOG1 and BF. LOG's box though has been flattened.
I still have this game and played it on my Gameboy SP last year. It’s definitely one of the best Dragon Ball games ever made, not gonna lie!
apparently toriyama didnt necessarily want to end the series specifically at the end of the cell saga.
You had me paranoid when you mentioned the maps. I had to go back and check my copies of LoG2 and Buus Fury. Happy to say, BOTH complete in box!
And wow, just looked at current prices for CIB copies or even near CIB copies, and they’ve really went up since I bought mine during lockdown.
Buu's Fury is better by a longshot especially because fusions are playable
Hey, can anybody help? Looking to find out the name of the song of that guitar chilled out version of Cha-La-head-cha-la in the intro
Anyone know the name of the song?
Thanks
I recently finished Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury for the first time. I had the first game back when that released and finished it multiple times and it took me 20 years to finally finish the other 2 games in the series!
Great video really good
Legit bought 1&2 a couple weeks ago. I have my buus fury since launch day. This will keep me occupied as hurricane Ian passes through the next couple days (Tampa)
I feel nostalgia with video games too. Especially the older games in the FF franchise.
8:37
Some kid in Japan after hearing lavender town's theme: Same 💀💀
I have only bad memories of the original Legacy of Goku.
LoG to LoG 2 was a quantum leap
Half the video is the box and the manual?
I remember beating this game on a road trip to Missouri for my brother's graduation. I was 12. This game is great.
This was a special game. Buus fury next
Liking these videos makes me feel like my grandma watching old stuff
After you do buus fury why not try the card battle one for gba too if i can remember its name it was a pain in the arse
I remember playing LoG 2 back in the day and really enjoyed it! Good Times! Buu's has it's moments too! Great one again Matty!
I had that poster hanging on the wall in my room for years! Don't know if I still have it, might be able to dig it up somewhere at my parents' house
A great vid one thing that was a bit off was about the ki charge thing.
It is actually possible but takes a long time without any movement so yea not very useful when there are multiple opponents aroundm
