This, but a "spending $200 on old games at GameStop vs spending $200 on old games at local independent game stores" A good ol versus battle is always fun
I love these videos man, and as a GameStop employee, a lot of these packages are disgraceful, because I always make sure that the items that I pack up are shipped in the most secure way possible. Most GameStop employees are lazy, and are really mad when they have to do a shipment during business hours, even though its their job to make sure that the package is shipped out correctly and secured. Also, I do agree that GameStop does charge too much for most games that do not include the case and manual.
As someone else who also works at my local GameStop I feel you on that so much, I take so much pride in my work and when I ship out games, some of these hurt my soul, no cover art we can’t control that when we get those in trade but when some come in with NO CASE really hurts
Amazon says exactly what condition the item comes in. It’s also wildly over priced. Oh, and shopping at Amazon is the 2022 equivalent to buying at Walmart in 1999: It’s done by brain dead consumers that don’t realize how bad those corporations are for our economy.
A word of advice as an ex GameStop employee, never order cartridge games (vita, DS, 3ds, older) if you care about cases. It will 90% of the time not come in one because the average consumer just threw them away. It was extremely rare for people to bring in cases with cartridge games for trade. It’s worth it to check their “retro” section frequently in person though. Most of the time their prices are not caught up with current pricing unless it’s extremely well known to be expensive like pokemon
As a current employee even some people do not keep cases for current games. I get people trading in switch games and them just pull the game out of the case their system is in
@@greencastle337 not all of them do anymore, it’s becoming less and less common as they start to focus on collectibles and stuff more. People trashed their games and at my store, all we had were shovelware for the Wii and DS, a ton of copies of sushi striker for 3ds, and scratched up common 360 games like call of duty and sports games. Nowadays Blu-ray is much more scratch resistant and people buy online and digital so much that what does still come in tends to hold up better. It’s just not worth it to carry “retro” as frequently. non retro stores all send out their retro trades to a designated retro store, and even still that retro section is usually pretty weak
@@EvenSteven yeah switch is the most common one for people to throw out cases since it’s cartridge and they just keep it in a bag or game holder. I usually had people literally pull their games out of their pockets. And not even the same pocket at that, they had to check every pocket to find it all. Newer disc games ps4, xbone, up) usually still had a case, but more often than not it had water damage, it was crushed, it was covered in gunk. It’s pretty crazy to me, even before I started collecting I respected the fact that these things are expensive so I don’t want to destroy them. Even a new sports game is $60 at launch, so why wouldn’t you take care of them?
@@greencastle337 My store still has some PS3, 360, Wii and WiiU, not many but some. Since my store is one of if not the biggest square footage store, most other stores are small and do not have enough room to carry them. Even my store barely has enough space for them
This series feels made for me, been slowly but surely recreating my collection that young dumb me got rid of over the years. Did some serious sticker removal after watching the previous videos lol
I personally want to see more Gamestop videos I think most other places like Amazon don't really have this fun element of surprise that you never really know what you get that those Gamestop hauls do offer. It just is to fun to watch when you sometimes get the dirtiest crusty peed on copys of games ever in existence and other times you really get a good clean copy.
Exactly. Going to a local game store? What’s gonna be fun about that? “Oh, here’s a copy of Super Mario 3D Land… and it has a case. I’ll buy that”. I’d find it more interesting to watch someone go shopping for groceries.
Random lots on eBay has the same gambling ish appeal. The ones where you pay a certain amount but they guarantee more value in return, they just don't specify which games are in them.
haha always curious to see these GameStop pulls, maybe do a mix of GameStop vs Amazon vs local shop to compare what you get from each? That would be really interesting to see if there's more manjuice on just GameStop or do others suffer the same fate 🤣 thank you for creating these videos! very entertaining
There are several retro stores that sell online, my favorite being Double Jump Games in Vancouver, Washington just over the river from Portland, but their website is currently offline for updates and to conserve their inventory for Portland Retro Game Expo which is next weekend from when this video was published. Locally from STL the only retro store that does online selling would be Trade N Games in Fenton, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. They've been around for 20 years, even though one of the busiest Gamestop's in St. Louis is a 5-minute drive away from them.
Again, orders for games newer than GC/PS2/OG XBox era are sent to stores so yes that box contained games all from one store. You can tell what store sent them on the shipping label as it will say "shipped from XXXXX" where the 5 X's are the zip code of the store.
Anywhere but Gamestop or Amazon. Screw the corporations. They under pay and overcharge. Support local people like yourself. They are just trying to feed the family and spread Gamer Joy!
you should've got their clearance sale! they had many switch and ps4/ps5 games on sale. I grabbed a few jrpgs on clearance and other well known titles.
I would absolutely return the “game only” games you got. No way in hell I’d keep them. Game Stop has a lot of nerve selling games for full value that aren’t complete. This is why I’d never buy games from them online.
Ok. I think I'm starting to get addicted to this GameStop opening vids... Matty, NEVER make excuses for your love of Fallout. WE love Fallout.... I suggest. Abandon GameStop. Go for Amazon
I think Amazon would be good because they actually tell you what condition used items are supposed to be in. Would be interesting to see if sellers are representing their items properly.
In reference to Fallout NV: I once got a behind the scenes tour of the GameStop mega warehouse near their HQ in Texas and they had a robot cutting open overstock Batman Arkham games to be sold used. They were new copies but they couldn't deviate from MSRP while they were still sealed. Probably rare though.
Man, those prices make me sad. No one in their right mind would pay 20+ for a 3ds cart only game over here, let alone for really common titles. Are these prices the standard for USA or is Gamestop just tripling them?
I traded in my entire Jaguar collection (with 4 controllers, the CD add on, all of the CD games, and most of the cartridge games) to buy Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast and I have never forgiven myself for it. I feel your pain. Tempest 4000 on the Switch makes it a little less painful, but I miss my Jag!
To start off, I really like seeing these GameStop hauls, great work on the videos! However, I think it’s safe to say that, for the most part, the whole situation of the case stuff happening is primarily due to the original owners of the game losing said cases. GameStop has no control over what games come with the case or not. From my experience, the game is always the priority. And, yes, I do understand wanting to have your games CIB and all but, again, most trades for retro stuff is game only for the most part. And, I feel GameStop should start implementing “game only” to all retro games because I’ve been noticing most retro collectors get upset that there is no case when it should already be the general consensus that a lot of people throw their cases away or just lose them. I don’t think it’s fair to 100% blame GameStop and say “this is the worst haul ever because there’s no cases” because, at the end of the day, the games that have been purchased are several years old. It’s not common for someone to come in and trade in games cib. Hell, I’ve even seen it happen with new generation titles. I, mostly blame the customers who trade it in. Hence why GameStop should just put game only on all retro games because they get blamed for it a lot.
And yet... when I used to buy new games from GS, they would always have the disk separate from the box.... They'd pull the box from behind them then dump the disk in from under the counter. Then have the nerve to sell it to me @ full price; as if the game was sealed...when it wasn't.
@@Hydra360ci yeah, I can understand why you feel that way. Honestly, I really don’t care about that as much as I’m buying the game to play it, not to keep it on display or reselling it. They put the cases out there to indicate that they have the game someone’s looking for. I think it’s catered towards new players and parents/kids. If they put out blank cases, I don’t think it would look at that appealing. Regardless, I’ve seen some GameStops try and help out with that by giving a 10% off but it varies. If GameStop had the game you’re looking for but only has 1 left then I’d say steer clear and try buying it elsewhere.
That Mass effect trilogy case or lack there of, genuinely hurts me haha, but id say local business if you have that option, or test the waters on amazon, ebay, or fb marketplace to really try your luck, great video though!!
You could try some gaming related mystery boxes, retro or otherwise. See how many things you recognize, and any new characters or items you meet will be another bonus you could look into.
In regards to Amazon, you will always want to order Very Good condition on used games as at least with disk games that condition is supposed to be used when the game is complete. Acceptable is almost always disc only.

Yeah. Amazon would be the exact opposite of that. Btws, Amazon is about as evil of a merchant than Walmart. I wouldn’t shop at either of those ever.
