Growing up and playing all three, the only reason I’m able to put Buu’s Fury above is due to the side quests being the movies. I remember being so pumped when I realized the Janemba arc was gonna be in the game
Plus you can unlock the Gogeta fusion for free use in the postgame. Sucks that you can only use Vegito in the story-related fight against Super Buu, but it does make sense what with the Potara earrings being destroyed and we didn't get the slight retcon/explanation about the Potara fusion having time limit for mortals until Super.
If the game had a few more months of development, it would have even featured Super Android 13 and Bio-Broly, that would have made it easily the greatest of the three without question
I must’ve played Buu’s Fury like 60-70 times. It’s so good and the replayability is top notch. I never got bored replaying the game which is really rare for any game.
So the grinding issue actually has a big way around it, you can periodically find these training weights as drops from enemies. You get an initial set early on but better ones drop from random guys. They give a bonus to your Xp earned at the cost of you move slower. Using them most of the game you basically never have to grind or it at least makes it more rare and take less time if you do need to do it. You do forgo the stat bonuses from gear in those slots but you can also find a “Gokuu” hat in that ninja village Goten goes to by punching the coffin the boss there flies into at the end of his fight and it gives you an extra point per level up. Using all 3 and by end game you up super powerful.
yeah, I replayed this game over 20 times and still wont get bored cause of that weight equipment times XP & Gokuu Hat...the grinding feels lesser compared to Legacy of Goku 2, still remember training Hercule to lv50 is freaking hell...
Ah good ol training weighted clothing. I remember playing though most of the game with them (as soon as I found them) and being frustrated that my character was so weak. Finally realized I should equip real equipment and blew through everything.
I love Buu's Fury, but my one complaint is that it's a lot easier than LoG 2 IMO. It's extremely easy to become overpowered, in fact it's pretty much forced onto you due to the level gates (which are less balanced to the boss difficulty than LoG 2). In addition, it's much easier to corner enemies against walls because they will stay stuck against them unless you get a critical hit on them. 2's enemies would ricochet off walls if pushed against them, requiring more rhythm and repositioning to attack and avoid being attacked. Super Saiyan forms are also much more broken because they no longer drain your main pool of energy, they have their own energy bar (which drains far slower as well). And you can just reactivate them within a few seconds of the form running out. You level up a lot faster too, especially if you stack a ton of weights. Not to mention the equipment stat buffs. I died far more in LoG 2 than Buu's Fury.
There was totally a bit of an art to working in tandem with the wall bounce. I remember getting good at that. I'm for sure gonna have to try this mod Jello is talking about!
My actual favorite DBZ game is a litle known gem called: Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans. It is a JRPG re-telling of the Saiyan arc of DBZ. Basically, think of Final Fantasy but with Dragon Ball. I honestly recommend it to anybody that wants to play a fun, JRPG of Dragon Ball Z.
Came here looking for this. Head and shoulders above most Dragon Ball Z games. Loved the inclusion of all the stuff from the original Dragon Ball as well.
I will never stop repeating this. A jump in quality between LOG and LOG 2 was probably the biggest in the history of sequels. LOG 3 overall i say was better than LOG2 in most aspects such as gameplay or graphics, but the balance got completely shafted beause of the removal of wall bounce and Super Saiyan having its own energy bar now.
Legacy of Goku 1 was either completely unplayable or borderline unplayable without the invincibility cheat code. I am still shocked that they fixed damn near everything that was wrong with it in LoG2 and improved on it further in Buu's Fury, and I'm pretty sure it was the same developer no less. Pokemon Gen 1 to Gen 2 was an enormous jump in quality and balance as well, but Gen 1 was at least a playable game, though it was admittedly totally busted in terms of balance and some of the menu navigation was just stupid and unnecessarily clunky. Going back to play those games after all the quality-of-life improvements just highlights the issues those games had.
I'm kinda split on Super Saiyan having its own energy bar. I think both implementations are flawed in different ways. LoG2's way of doing it made it so you wouldn't want to use ki attacks while super saiyan which is kinda not fun imo. LoG3's way of doing it was also not good because it makes these new forms really OP. I feel like having a completely separate mechanic for SSJ would have been better. Maybe make the golden triangle thing fill up not based on time but on how much damage you're dishing out/taking and also require a lot of damage to fully recharge.
i played both of this emulated like 15 years ago (i can't believe it has been that long). I always wanted a GT sequel with this gameplay, what an amazing series. Legacy of Goku II is great but Buu's fury level up the gameplay just enough to got the #1 spot. Probably because i think I played that one first.
I always said the same thing growing up, how could they not make Dragon Ball GT: Legacy of Goku 4 that plays through the Baby arc, Super Android 17 arc, and the Shadow Dragons arc. That could’ve been badass and people would’ve definitely bought it
As a kid, I got to the final fight without knowing you could use stat points. So to me, Buus Fury is the hardest game on Earth lol. Of course, when I figured out the stat point system it was super easy.
Duuude saaaame, using Gohan after his training and beating buu was the hardest part, after replaying I think it was at goten/trunks part where I found out you could use them, I was like f*ck but is actually more fun if you play without stats point
@@DubFanLatino It was hella fun playing without stat points lol 😆 can’t believe I got to Kid Buu doing that, I kinda wanna see if I can beat Kid Buu without stat points now.
Despite liking the android - cell sagas more than Buu. Buu's fury is my favorite of the 3. Even with wall bounces and charge attacks missing, the rest of the new mechanics make it so much more fun. Especially the way they did Super Saiyan compared to LoG2. And Super Saiyan 3 was awesome in this
I actually played Buu's Fury several times before I even realized there was stat allocation so I was hard moding the game for years lol. One of my favorite GBA games!
I loved these games. Buu's Fury was the best one. The developers definitely knew and respected the source material. I think its time to break out my GBA and replay this
Thankfully I got to experience the game once it was released. I hammered through each LOG game as they came out, and I definitely feel like Buus fury is the best. The equipment, stats, movie tie ins, and everything in-between a step up from number 2. Mind you were talking about an A vs A+, so it's still incredibly close.
I had Legacy of Goku 1 and got stuck at the Temple on Namek. Never had 2 but I had Buu's Fury. I loved this game. I remember getting stuck on the final fight and leaving it on pause in the glove box of my parent's car while attending a birthday party. Came out after the party and beat kid buu. It will always hold a special place in my heart
I have both. I got buu’s fury first in the double gba pack with GT transformation. (And later got the legacy series 2 in 1). I think both games are great, and compliment each other. Legacy 2 gets bonus points for future trunks and piccolo. And of course the awesome cell fight. Buu’s fury gets points for fusions and mythic Gohan. But I really enjoy that the movies get added into buu’s fury as a way to add content. I think Buu’s fury is better mechanically as it builds on what legacy 2 started. It is a bit more grindy than legacy 2 but I actually don’t mind it as I leveled all characters to the max in both games. I would give legacy a 9 out of ten and buu’s fury barely a 9.5 because I like the added rpg elements of the equipment. Also I didn’t see it mentioned in the video but the scanning mechanic in the game to get stat and bios on every character sprite in the game (even ones that are only available in one fight or appear for just a few frames) was also really fun and great for little references to the anime/manga
It's actually so fun to watch this video, not only because I enjoyed the previous 2 Legacy videos, but because I also never got to play Buu's Fury as a kid and have only recently considered picking it up as an adult to fill in that gap. I loved the first game as a kid, and then the vastly improved sequel blew me me away. Because Legacy of Goku 2 covered my favorite DBZ arcs, I don't anticipate myself liking Buu's Fury better necessarily, but I'm still excited to play it nonetheless. I'd love to see you do a video on DBZ Kakarot! While we may not have the nostalgia for it like we do the Legacy of Goku games, when I first played Kakarot I knew that my child self would have just spent hours upon hours living in that world. My imagination ran wild as a kid and sometimes I would just make my own fun in games going and visiting different places and going on a self-made adventure. I still like Kakarot as an adult and I do my best to try and think of the eyes I would have viewed it through as a kid when I play it, because it is essentially the modern incarnation of the GBA trilogy that was around when we were kids. So I just think it would be a really cool endcap to the Legacy of Goku series of videos 😁 Sorry for the long comment, I just had some things to say 😂 Thanks for the new video, it was great as always Flandrew!
I actually liked the grinding be it felt rewarding after getting it done. I'm also surprised that you didn't talk about the special items that gave you the different ability bonuses. You mention there were items but not laying them out on what some of them did. Like the 5-100 ton boots that make you level up faster, GOKUU hat that gives you an extra skill point for leveling up, the OG Saiyan armor etc.
Buy’s Fury is certainly my favorite LoG game. It has more of the redone Faulconer tracks, and almost all the padding sidequests feel like part of the story thanks to using the films and incorporating other bits of lore in the Dragon Ball hunt. Adding a block mechanic added some more depth to combat. I also like the redone Super Saiyan mechanics. The level gates are a bit annoying, but the addition of equipment that can increase exp gains mitigates this issue from LoG 2. I actually own a complete version of this game, box and all, that I picked up during a convention a few years ago.
Buu's Fury was extremely easy to cheese, sadly, due to the lower difficulty and how powerful you can get with grinding and equipment. Collecting the equimpent was pretty fun though, and they managed to make the fillers and theatrical movies fit in chronologically, which is quite a feat. LoG2, on the other hand. had better music, difficulty and atmosphere.
Yeah true. But if you wanna make the game harder, don't assign stat points, and don't use the 255 senzu bean glitch. I remember playing this game without those for the first time and it was insanely difficult lol
@@thespianuzumaki5452 I never even heard of the 255 senzu glitch. I suppose the best thing to not trivialize the game is to not use the Gokuu Hat for any of your characters
I will say, both Legacy 2 and Buu's Fury have pros and cons, I think I enjoy the updates to systems in Buu's fury more. I find there is too much random filler in Legacy 2 to really enjoy repeat playthroughs (though I certainly enjoy the cell arc more than Buu) however Buu's fury has WAY more glitches. I've gotten stuck behind broken level up doors, went super sayian with trunks and goten then flown out the window of the lookout to enjoy garbled pixels, glitched out the multiplayer a couple of times, forced the game to let my fly as the screwed up fusions and enjoyed garbled graphics, ate all the sensu beans before giving them to videl so that i had 254 of them because the game freaks out if they aren't there, and probably some more things I can't remember. Legacy 2 has a LOT LESS glitches that I can recall. I will say that I replay Buu's Fury at least once a year because while it is a little grind heavy, if you use the weighted training gear the grind gets a lot less very quickly and the game is short enough I don't feel exhausted after playing it (I prefer short games to longer ones because my attention span can only handle so much). Also I don't care for the charged attacks and being able to have upgraded beams is a lot better to me.
I played all three back in the day on my gameboy and I cannot being to describe to you the immense hype I felt waiting for Buu's Fury to release, going to the WalMart with my mom and having her buy it for me then going him and playing through it without a care in the world cause being a kid and playing video games was the best back then. I believe Buu's Fury is the best simply because I love grinding, it's just kinda my thing to do the same thing over and over again and get rewarded for it (xp), I'm a chemist and I run the same assays week in and out and love it so that makes sense haha. But I will concede there's a strong argument for LoG 2 being better :)
I had the complete opposite experience as you. I played Buu’s Fury first, not knowing there were two games that came before it. I’d never really watched DBZ past the Saiyan Saga at that point, but I did know the story so playing this game got me back into watching the series and when the Buu Saga came around I was really surprised how faithful this game was.
I played this series in reverse as a kid, and was shocked how the first two were so much harder/tedious/worse than BF. BF is definitely the best considering the length, progression, and unlockables.
I started with LoG 2 and loved it. Then got BF and loved it. This was right when DBZ stopped airing on TV after it's first full run and I only had slow dial up internet so I couldn't watch it that way. Playing those games was the next best thing. Those games are treasures to me lol.
i had great admiration for BF since i played it first, however LOG2 is the better all around game. i remember i would spend hours back in 05 trying to beat the forest generator section of the game with those ridiculous egg run and dealing with vinnys music games! lol good times.
@@animanga9597 The egg run of LOG2 is where you find out what you're really made of that shit was so fun! And Dr Gero was actually a tough boss at that part too. That game had no business being that good.
I definitely prefer Legacy of Goku II. Buu's Fury is much easier, and the lack of wall bounce and charge attacks definitely weakens the gameplay loop. The level gates and relatively low stats for the enemies (especially bosses) means it's pretty much a cakewalk. In Legacy of Goku II, the bosses pretty consistently had equal stats to the player, if not a bit higher. In Buu's Fury, even Kid Buu's stats are well below the player's, outside of his health. I do like the character customization in stats and equipment, but even that is pretty barebones. And the fact that players can fully adjust character stats means every character can end up playing exactly the same. In LoG II, different characters having different stats meant they actually played a bit different. Like Trunks having a really high strength and endurance, but low power, so you wouldn't want to use energy attacks with him and would instead go for close quarters combat. Meanwhile, Gohan had a huge power stat which is usually maxed by the end of the game, so spamming ki blasts was the optimal strat. In Buu's Fury, none of this applies. Story-wise, I actually prefer Buu's Fury. It's just as faithful to the anime as Legacy of Goku II, but it does a better job of weaving in the narratives from the movies as filler rather than padding things out with tedious side quests that have no story relevance. I just wish the game had improved upon the mechanics and difficulty of Legacy of Goku II instead of stripping them down farther. Also, it is my eternal pet peeve that Buu's Fury didn't have a playable Super Saiyan 2, after how much Legacy of Goku II hyped up that form. SSJ2 gets heavy use in the Buu arc, both in the manga and anime. But in the game, it just totally disappeared outside of dialogue.
@@gokuvegeta9500 In LoG2, they didn't have a lightning aura around SSJ2, and SSJ3 also doesn't have a lightning aura in Buu's Fury, so I don't think the animation on the sprites would have been the issue. SSJ2 would have just had a different character portrait and probably a different sprite hair color. You can see evidence of this leftover in the game. Gohan's SSJ portrait has a different hair color in his high school outfit than in his Great Saiyaman costume from the World Tournament, when he canonically goes SSJ2. And the portrait for Majin Vegeta's hair color similarly changes from his usual SSJ portrait. In both cases, the SSJ2 version of the character portrait has lighter hair. And we know sprites like Gogeta and Vegito have a lighter SSJ hair color than the sprites for the rest of the cast when they go SSJ, so that's probably the color that would have been used for SSJ2 sprites, if the form had been left in the game. I don't remember where I saw it, but someone from Webfoot said SSJ2 was missing from Buu's Fury because they felt it was redundant with the inclusion of SSJ3. Vegeta was the only character that would use SSJ2 regularly through the game (Gohan loses SSJ2 when he becomes Ultimate, and Goku has access to SSJ3). So in the end, they took the form out of the game. The wording they used implied to me that in some earlier test builds of the game, they probably did have SSJ2 programmed in. It would explain why they nerfed the SSJ transformation from LoG2 (from +10 in Str, Pow, and End to just +5), and why the gap is so massive between SSJ and SSJ3 (+25 in each). SSJ2 was probably meant to be in between the two (+15). But unless a test build of the game ever leaks, I guess we'll never know for sure.
Aside from the wall bounce, Buu's Fury still improved the fighting mechanics and quality of life stuff, example, the Super Saiyan Energy Bar being a new bar specifically for SSJ, rather than Legacy of Goku 2 where it shares the same energy bar as your base energy.
Legacy of Goku II and this game are actually excellent titles that really captured both the feel and wider canon of the DBZ era from that time, including the Faulconer music.
Thanks for doing this video, you channel really rocks Flandrew, I have watched the Harry Potter videos too. For me this is the best Dragon Ball RPG game ever made, I've replayed it like 3 times. I love it, it has a lot of flaws but the first time I played it I couldn't have asked for more, you play more characters than LoG2, be in SSJ form for a pretty long time, be in SSJ3 form for some time to pack good punches and even play fusion characters. I found it more enjoyable thant LoG2 due to the scope of the stories, I didn't give a damn about the gearing system I actually found it amusing, etc. When I finished it, I was craving to play a similar GT sequel but ended highly dissapointed as we can imagine. This game is free of microtransactions, we got the full game on one blow, how is that possible with current DB games? /s(?) I really wish they would give us more modern games like this, with less mindless overworld content, a bit more grounded and polished, maybe like mixture between Dragon Quest XI and Zelda BoTW. Also I'm still wating for decent DB game which covers the GT saga, my favourite.
If I remember correctly, if you get all the Z Fighter and Hercule Exhibit collectibles, you unlock the ability to fuse into Gogeta with Vegeta and Goku
I really loved LoG 2's secondary melee attack and the size of the lookout compared to the mini version in buu's fury. Fighting Buu felt cramped, but other than that Buu's Fury takes the cake. Might replay again and I was too lazy to unlock the multi-player plus my friends didn't have the game. Would love an online mode if they miraculously make release it on the switch
Great video!! I grew up on the LOG games and while I love Buu’s Fury, LOG2 is just incredible, especially when comparing the jump in quality from the first game. I wish Buu’s Fury kept the cut content (Bio-Broly and Super Android 13) in the final game but alas, Twas not meant to be.
Your channel just randomly showed up on my homepage. Probably cuz I'm such a dragonball nut. I lived for these GBA games. I've got the OG DB game advanced adventure and the GT Transformations game, too. So when you put all 5 together, you could go through almost the entire series (That existed at the time) sans the 23rd WMAT cuz who wants to create combat sprites for an adult Goku, Chichi, and MaJunior for the finale, right? I'm of the crowd that thinks that Legacy of Goku 2 is superior, although Buu's Fury offers a VERY good try at trying to expand the game in many ways while keeping it reminiscent of the previous game. My problems with it are pretty numerous. The items you can equip end up making you pretty OP, making the final bosses pretty garbage by the time you fight them, considering all the grinding for those big doors, all the items that get dropped, the training weighted items you can equip for faster leveling (While at first they looked great, in hindsight they made the game pretty quick...). There's alot of good attempts, good callbacks, such as the BadMan shirt being an item that drops that sadly doesn't change Vegeta's outfit when equipped, etc. Alot of this looks good. But it could be BETTER. I always wanted a Legacy of Goku 1 remake and split it into 2 games. The first game having Goku, Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, and Kid Gohan playable, and the second game having Goku, Krillin, Gohan, Vegeta, and Piccolo (and briefly Nail) playable. That coulda been pretty cool. And then the DS gave me my wish in Attack of the Saiyans! WHICH NEVER GOT A BLOODY SEQUEL! tl'dr: Love these games, but I think Legacy of Goku 2 is just better cuz while there's less in it, it's also less of a MESS.
I've replayed both games over 50 times in multiple speeds. 2x 3x 4x. I think buus fury is the best one because of the itemisation. You can get high level armbands and boots to level up pretty quick in the game
BF is definitely my favorite growing up plus I had this habbit of griding first before doing anything else in the game so when you first start as Goku at lvl 60 so I kinda grind to lvl 80 before starting the story and then I do that onwards so it kinda negated the hate for grinding cause I already did it before continuing even before i get to a gate lvl requirement i guess if that makes sense.
Im so so glad I discovered this channel, so much nostalgia Id love to see an obscure platformer video or something, for Tomba (Tombi) 1 and 2, quite a fun duo of games
Legacy of Goku II was my entry point to the entire Dragon Ball franchise, and it'll always have a place in my heart for that. Helps that it's also a damn solid game that aged well. Buu's Fury is good too despite being easier, and it's cool as hell how the games used the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack as its OST.
my very first experience with buus fury took place in late 2010 / early 2011 , my older brother by about 9 years put me on to it . he modded our ps3 which allowed it play gba games so i was playing it with a ps3 controller . i had to be about 8 years old & i immediately became fond of the game . everything from the music , every character's stats thriving in different areas when u first get to play as them & u having the freedom to manipulate them in any direction u want . the build up of the story & the enemies getting stronger the further u go , the need to grind at some points so u arent as vulnerable . . . literally everything . its mandatory i replay this game at least once a year for the hell of it . the thing that makes legacy of goku 2 more entertaining is the fact that u need to put more thought into ur punches because they wont always touch the enemy's hitbox the way u expect them to like in buus fury . buus fury definitely made the punches smoother & easier to predict whether or not it would be a successful one but with legacy of goku 2 u have to train ur eyes to punch with more precision . ive only completed legacy of goku 2 once but ive lost count of how many times i finished buus fury . it feels like more of an accomplishment to beat legacy of goku 2 but buus fury is just the better all-around game
All of the answers you seek are, “because the game has to happen” 😂😂😂 your videos are an absolute joy, my friend. Please don’t stop! I’m a subscriber for life bro lol.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve beaten this game. It’s my favorite GBA of all time. Over leveling and fighting bosses and unlocking all of the secrets is so damn fun.
I begged my mum for weeks to get this game for me back when it came out. So the day before my birthday in November that year, my dad had a dart tournament at some pub. And my mum just took me to the store to buy the game. Weird story, but I think that little triumph is what makes it the best in the series for me. Also, I kinda dig the kids finding the dragon balls. I do have to agree that it feels like an expansion of 2, but as a kid I never gave it much though, as I had all three games.
I don't get why people hate that game. I loved it. It was excellent and yes, easy. I liked the transformations, I liked the Easter eggs, the simple battles, the dub memes
Personally, for the longest time, I didn't even know Buu's Fury was a sequel to LOG 2 when I saw it at the store. Once I finally played I weirdly fell in love with it more. Idk if it was due to the surprise of having a sequel to one of my favorite GBA games or that the Buu saga holds a special place with me (SS3 a good selling point)
When I played this as a kid, for some reason I never figured out that you could level up your stats so I played the entire game doing 3 damage to every enemy....it took me weeks to level up Gohan and the bosses took me an ridiculous amount of time to beat.
For me the best Dragonball GBA games are Supersonic Warriors, Advanced Adventure and GT Transformation. The Buu ark has the best art style of all of dragonball everyone looks awesome. Vegeta's physic looks insane in this arc even before he turns majin. Wish some of the studios that animated the buu saga actually made the animations for current dragonball stuff.
The games you mentioned are completely different genres, these are RPGs which is what makes them so special. In the west these are the only RPGs we got until Kakarot came out and these are more of a traditional style Action RPG than Kakarot. We have tons of Fighting games like Supersonic Warriors, the beaten ups are Cool but I don't think they have half the depth on the Dragon Ball RPGs on GBA (Legacy of Goku 1&2 and Buu's Fury). I'm not saying the fighting DBZ games are bad, I played many many of them but I think these are amoung the most special games we ever got in the West as far as Dragon ball goes.
@@dextersbeard3472 "In the west these are the only RPGs we got until Kakarot came out" What about the Dragon Ball Origin games? Are those similar to LOG2 and Buu's Fury? Have never played or experienced the Origin games, but would like to try them, however they are expensive.
I liked Buu’s Fury more because going Super Saiyan increases your movement speed. It being so long ago that my brain kinda wiped the level gates from my memory helps, as the filler is at least tied to the plot in this one. No, Hercule, I do not want to get you Eye of the Tiger so I can walk past your celebration instead of flying over. Also yeah I started on the Buu arc, too. The NPC dialogue in both games are pretty memorable.
Going Super Saiyan in LOG2 definitely increases your movement speed as well. Didn't play Buu's Fury so I can't comment on if Super Saiyan was even faster in that game or not. But yeah.
And i feel a lot of this game's issues with feeling a little grindy has to do with the gba's portability. For me, I didn't finish the game in one sitting, because most of the time you couldn't. So growing up with this game definitely gives me nostalgia.
Grew up with all 3 games. The first game you could cheese the whole game heavily with the solar flare. The second game I believe was the hardest of the three in my opinion. The third one far easier that the second primarily because you basically had an infinite amount of ki with the super saiyan forms. I think I liked the third one the best because I loved SSJ3, how Vegeta's big bang attack just felt like a never ending spirit bomb, and unlocked Gogeta as a secret character was so cool, even though there was basically nothing to do with him once obtained.
I played all three of these years ago. (Disclaimer: I love exploration much more than you, Flandrew, so I love sidequests where I notice you often don't.) When I first played The Legacy of Goku, I had so many frustrations with it but I loved it because it was the only thing we had of that sort. I loved the action RPG vibe but they definitely would have benefitted from at least allowing you to use a couple additional characters to allow you to experience more of the actual DBZ story. When Legacy of Goku 2 came out, I realised how much they improved and in hindsight, the first one seems like a much crappier game. The additional characters made the game a much more fun experience and the additional tasks, for me, were pretty cool as well. I loved the large world to explore and I actually enjoyed grinding because there was such a big game to mess around with. The sidequests and bonus secret stuff was a lot of fun to complete, although I admit that I got slightly bored towards the end and just wanted to get the last couple things over with. While I do appreciate a lot of the additional stuff they added in the third game and I love the actual story points and lore that they used, I have to admit that I thought the second game had a better balance of gameplay ideas. I agree that the third game had a better game to play through, had a better representation of the story and definitely had a lot of cool additions that made it feel more polished. But certain things like the huge amount of equippable items, a couple confusing maze-like areas and some of the grinding felt a bit much to me. I felt like this game had a bit more fatigue for me where parts of the game got frustrating in terms of grinding or looking for stuff just a little bit more than the second game. I plan to play these all again soon, so maybe I'll feel differently when I check them out again.
Great video! I remember my friend playing this on an emulator. It was really cool. You should review Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure, it's one of the best Gameboy Dragon Ball games.
I remember owning that game for the GBA, and loving it. I even remember accidentally stumbling upon a game breaking glitch. It happened when I came across one of those gates that can only be opened by a specific character, and if the character is at a certain level or higher. I was playing as Goku, I broke the gate, walked through, I found a Save Area, saved the game, switched out as a character who was leagues weaker than Goku, I believe it was Gohan, went back to where the gate was, and the gateway had reappeared. I went back and switched back into Goku, only to for the gate to still be there, and I couldn't break the gate on the opposite side. This meant I broke the game. I couldn't continue any further, as I already beat the main story, and I didn't have any means to fast travel. Meaning, I had to restart the entire game.
Oh man I feel your pain with not being able to play Buu's Fury growing up, glad I could live vicariously through you with this vid as I too got into DBZ from the Cartoon Network showings of the Buu Saga!
While I do like Buu's Fury the most, the complaint that it is easier does hold mostly true. In Buu's fury the number of aid options is greatly higher as well as the larger range of levels allows you to overlevel, while Legacy of Goku 2 there is little you can do beside maxing your level which even then you still need to play smart. So the minimum difficulty is vastly different but you can still go forward in Buu's Fury with reckless abandon and have a uphill battle. Honestly the first time I beat it, Goku and Vegeta were minimum level possible which really made a difference in the final fight against Kid Buu. Goku felt like fighting a equal enemy while Vegeta at level 120 felt like fighting a unstoppable monster.
I played each of the games while they were still on the shelf and I gotta say Buu's fury in my favorite. I love the stat consistency, the way attacks 'upgrade' over time and the post game reward for collecting every exhibit is super fun. The link cable battles are a bit busted but fun XD You basically have to be at the same point in the game, it uses your stats from the game. Over all this game is my personal favorite dragonball game and my favorite game on the GBA.
To this day these two games are the first games I install on all of my emulators. You said it best though I believe it depends on you favorite arc in the series. Growing up Future Trunks was my favorite and getting a chance to have him as a character felt so cool and made me love that game so much, however the upgrade in stats and accessories made me love bus fury so much i could never decide which is better
I've played through the series and enjoyed the heck out of all of them, but ultimately 3 is my favorite. :) Nostalgia probably is a big reason for that, I love the Buu saga, and I love the movies set in that era!
I haven't played this game in about 2 decades and I can STILL hear the 8-bit title screen theme playing in my head as clear as the last day I played it. I remember a year or so after I last played the game I saw a kid when I was at the doctor's playing it in the waiting room. I felt superior knowing he hadn't unlocked Gogeta yet. Simple game yet really good for a hand held game at the time, i'd say it's the best of it's era but maybe not all time.
2:35 The tournament's a trap! Seriously though, should've been a Dragon Quest character. Toriyama's snuck in a few references in the Dragon Ball manga and there's a jellyfish resembling a man o' war (healslime recolor) in the Battle of Gods movie.
This is actually my favorite DBZ game, partially because the Buu saga is my favorite, but it also takes a couple of my issues from LoG 2 and fixes them here. (Primarily that the SSJ energy and regular energy are the same in LoG 2, but separate in BF. So if you lose SSJ in BF, you can still use energy attacks, but you can't in LoG) I also speedrun the game as well because I like it so much Also, at 6:45, if you do that part as Goten, Pilaf has different dialogue and thinks Goten is Goku and some other stuff, as opposed to the dialogue he has with Trunks about Bulma. I thought that was really cool when I played it There's one glitch I love (getting a TON of senzu beans. Just eat the one you grab when going to get one for Videl. You'll still give it to her, but then you'll have 255 in your inventory) and another I hate (if you're SSJ as Gohan when last playing as him before he becomes Ultimate/Mystic Gohan), whatever your SSJ energy bar is at, will always stay there afterwards, because he can't go SSJ again after that, and it oddly doesn't change the energy bar. So you'll have a partially filled gold bar over your regular green energy bar for the rest of the game any time you play as Gohan, which is annoying because it will obscure what your actual energy level is
The grinding is the only real issue with this game that I think makes Legacy 2 the better game, but this is still a really enjoyable romp through the Buu saga.
I played this game when it came out as a kid and I gotta say I do think that buu's fury is the best DBZ game until that point (havent played a lot of the newer ones) the minor RPG system upgrades added to the game really added a ton of depth for me at the time especially as a young kid
The Goku's Legacy series have always given me mixed reception. The first game came out roughly within the week I graduated high school and being a huge anime fan I picked it up no question. Finished it in a single sitting and felt it was neat but not worth the price. Fast forward to the release of the second title and word of mouth convinced me to give it a shot. Definitely an improvement in all aspects even if it was a bit jank. Meanwhile I picked up Buu's Fury years after release for like ten bucks from a bargain bin and never really played it much but the little I did impressed me with it's devotion to the source material. All in all fun but average games in my opinion with the DS RPG Attack of the Saiyans being peak DBZ RPG material with the first SNES title being a close second.
Unlike i think every other dbz up to date, i actually REALLY enjoy the fact that they tie in the movies in between the story. That’s something i personally been saying since i was younger. I remember being odee obsessed with dbz and put together when exactly every movie happened(even tho its in another timeline). For example it would be dope to go and do a broly side quest(Movie 8: Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan) during the wait til cell games. Just my opinion tho, good video Bro💯
I remember when I first played Buus fury when I was very young and made it all the way to fighting kid buu only to get demolished in like 1 or 2 hits. Later, I had realized that every level gained gives you stat points that you must allocate, which made me feel pretty stupid lol
I also live in the UK, but had better luck when this game released. I picked up a US copy of Buu's Fury from a smaller local game shop that often carried imports. LoG2 is definitely my favourite of the trilogy. So much so that it got me into making fan games in RPG Maker. I always found the Legacy of Goku a strange name for it as Goku spends so much of the series dead, travelling to the battlefield (twice), lost in space, seriously ill, and dead (again).
This is my all time favorite dbz game, brings back memories, I gave this game away after some time. I been wanting to buy one again and put it in my collection
I got into DBZ around the cell saga and Legacy of Goku 2 was my first GBA game but Buu's Fury is my favorite because its one of the first GBA games I beat and brings me back to great times of my childhood. I was so young and didn't realize you could level up stats until late in the game and I was so amazed at how much damage I could finally deal to regular enemies and bosses lol
i was obsessed with this game and while yea I did hate the grinding, the scale of this game in such a small package for back then, and how it faithfully recreated even easter egg moments made this one of my favorite GBA games of ALL time. Still love it despite the grinding.
Honestly yes, the shuttle improvements that Buu's Fury gave do elevate it above LOG2. I loved playing this game, the customize part, getting the fusions (wish vegito was used more) make it worth it. The pingpong feature of battling (guide called it that not me) was ok in 2, but seeing as you had multiple enemies, it gave breathing room sometimes. With this game, unless you go out of your way to gather them, they are pretty well spaced out. With the projectiles and other distance attacks, being able to corner them and whack away was worth it.
Child me saw the exp boosts from training weights and thought " Guess im never taking these off". The exp boost equipment actually made the game more fun as the grinding was lessened noticeably and the difficulty of having weaker gear helped the balancing of difficulty in game. Would recommend them to anyone doing the playthrough.
The fun part of it to me was trying to do thing out of order or just for multiplayer stopping at a certain point in the game and training a certain character to fight someone else
I remember as a kid I was completely unaware of the stats attributes. Which is insane because I played through the entire game without it. That means extremely reduced speed, attack power, and defense. I remember only being able to take around 1 hit without dying for most of the game. I was extremely tolerant as a kid and I think this only made me like the game more cause it was so challenging. I had to carry around a massive amount of food cause anytime I took a hit I needed to regen my health. I only ever realized my mistake after revisiting the game on my Gameboy SP more than a decade later. I loved this game as a kid and remember it so vividly. Every section, enemy and location.

Child me didn't understand the value of exp boosts. Adult me shall abuse this now
Ah good ol training weighted clothing. I remember playing though most of the game with them (as soon as I found them) and being frustrated that my character was so weak. Finally realized I should equip real equipment and blew through everything.
I used to stay using weights
@@dee2273 right I always thought exp boosts were just cheating... oh wait..
Someone uploaded a modded rom of Buus Fury to make it harder. It's called (buus fury :the hard way)
@@JelloFluoride that is amazing
There was totally a bit of an art to working in tandem with the wall bounce. I remember getting good at that. I'm for sure gonna have to try this mod Jello is talking about!
Buu's furry is so good but broken
Just glad it's not hard like LoG 1 lol
My actual favorite DBZ game is a litle known gem called: Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans. It is a JRPG re-telling of the Saiyan arc of DBZ. Basically, think of Final Fantasy but with Dragon Ball. I honestly recommend it to anybody that wants to play a fun, JRPG of Dragon Ball Z.
That one was really good! Wish they had more dbz games like that

That one was awesome
I will never stop repeating this. A jump in quality between LOG and LOG 2 was probably the biggest in the history of sequels. LOG 3 overall i say was better than LOG2 in most aspects such as gameplay or graphics, but the balance got completely shafted beause of the removal of wall bounce and Super Saiyan having its own energy bar now.
Biggest jump has to be Pokémon red to gold and silver in terms of quality. But the jump from 1 to 2 is good as well
The biggest I've ever seen was Evil Dead: Hail to the King to Evil Dead: A Fistful of Broomstick, but LoG 1 to 2 was huge.
Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed II is another one.
Back when developers really did their research and kept true to the story and made the game actually fun to play.
i played both of this emulated like 15 years ago (i can't believe it has been that long). I always wanted a GT sequel with this gameplay, what an amazing series. Legacy of Goku II is great but Buu's fury level up the gameplay just enough to got the #1 spot. Probably because i think I played that one first.
It still bothers me to this day that we never got a Legacy of Goku game for the GT series.
I always said the same thing growing up, how could they not make Dragon Ball GT: Legacy of Goku 4 that plays through the Baby arc, Super Android 17 arc, and the Shadow Dragons arc. That could’ve been badass and people would’ve definitely bought it
Yeah , actually they did made a GT sequel, is called GT transformation, but its not a rpg, its beat em up, and you guessed it sucks
@@jpebrz can confirm it sucks, it was hard as shit as a kid too..

Thankfully I got to experience the game once it was released. I hammered through each LOG game as they came out, and I definitely feel like Buus fury is the best.
Buu’s fury was actually my gateway into dragon ball. So much of my childhood in this game. Still love it!
So I just think it would be a really cool endcap to the Legacy of Goku series of videos 😁

Perfectly put
I’m glad you used the word saga bro. Out of nowhere everyone started referring to the sagas as arcs

This was one of the few games I played on my GameBoy and man..
Remembering how annoying searching for the Dragon Balls were takes me back.
Those games are treasures to me lol.
the same for me!
i had great admiration for BF since i played it first, however LOG2 is the better all around game. i remember i would spend hours back in 05 trying to beat the forest generator section of the game with those ridiculous egg run and dealing with vinnys music games! lol good times.
@@animanga9597 The egg run of LOG2 is where you find out what you're really made of that shit was so fun! And Dr Gero was actually a tough boss at that part too. That game had no business being that good.
me too! I enjoyed legacy 2 but legacy 1 is pure garbage
Legacy of goku 2 bosses will clap your cheeks a few times before you beat them lol

Would be hard to animate SSJ2 with the lightning ⚡ aura around a player so I guess they didn't include it in Buu's Fury
Buu’s Fury is my absolute favorite GBA game. My only complaint is the prequels’ gameplay aren’t as good, but the stories are.
Aside from the wall bounce, Buu's Fury still improved the fighting mechanics and quality of life stuff, example, the Super Saiyan Energy Bar being a new bar specifically for SSJ, rather than Legacy of Goku 2 where it shares the same energy bar as your base energy.

I really wish they would give us more modern games like this, with less mindless overworld content, a bit more grounded and polished, maybe like mixture between Dragon Quest XI and Zelda BoTW. Also I'm still wating for decent DB game which covers the GT saga, my favourite.

3:13 As a hobbyist "that guy" I feel compelled to inform you that that is in fact, a pterosaur, not a dinosaur.
Im so so glad I discovered this channel, so much nostalgia
Id love to see an obscure platformer video or something, for Tomba (Tombi) 1 and 2, quite a fun duo of games
Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors was and still is the best dragon ball game for on the go. Such a good game!
It’s super satisfying to finally beat Kid Buu in that game and it is awesome to unlock the villain characters in the second playthrough
the OST of Legendary Super warriors still rocks. Good times, good times.
Uhh no
Legacy of Goku II was my entry point to the entire Dragon Ball franchise, and it'll always have a place in my heart for that. Helps that it's also a damn solid game that aged well. Buu's Fury is good too despite being easier, and it's cool as hell how the games used the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack as its OST.
love these videos.. I played these games such a long time ago but that death animation still has something on me lol
my very first experience with buus fury took place in late 2010 / early 2011 , my older brother by about 9 years put me on to it . he modded our ps3 which allowed it play gba games so i was playing it with a ps3 controller . i had to be about 8 years old & i immediately became fond of the game . everything from the music , every character's stats thriving in different areas when u first get to play as them & u having the freedom to manipulate them in any direction u want . the build up of the story & the enemies getting stronger the further u go , the need to grind at some points so u arent as vulnerable . . . literally everything . its mandatory i replay this game at least once a year for the hell of it . the thing that makes legacy of goku 2 more entertaining is the fact that u need to put more thought into ur punches because they wont always touch the enemy's hitbox the way u expect them to like in buus fury . buus fury definitely made the punches smoother & easier to predict whether or not it would be a successful one but with legacy of goku 2 u have to train ur eyes to punch with more precision . ive only completed legacy of goku 2 once but ive lost count of how many times i finished buus fury . it feels like more of an accomplishment to beat legacy of goku 2 but buus fury is just the better all-around game
All of the answers you seek are, “because the game has to happen” 😂😂😂 your videos are an absolute joy, my friend. Please don’t stop! I’m a subscriber for life bro lol.
The only way the series could be improved is if they remastered it and added importing your save from each game to the next.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve beaten this game. It’s my favorite GBA of all time. Over leveling and fighting bosses and unlocking all of the secrets is so damn fun.

I AM CREATING DBS STORY MODE
I HAVE ALSO CREATED INSTANT TRANSMISSION
Hi, Flandrew. Just wanted to say I love your content and I wish you the best in your efforts.
1:07 You'd think there'd be bigger complaints than "not knowing where to go" with a tie in to a movie as terrible as Catwoman lol
not seeing double anymore
YEEEEEEEEEEEEES FINALLY, thank you for the video as always Flandrew!!
(Disclaimer: I love exploration much more than you, Flandrew, so I love sidequests where I notice you often don't.)
When I first played The Legacy of Goku, I had so many frustrations with it but I loved it because it was the only thing we had of that sort.
These were the best DBZ games. I wish we could get some more RPG adventure style games like this
Great video!
One big element going for buu's fury is that using the characters ki abilities are insanely fun
I've probably played this game all the way through 20 times. So much fun.
I like how Janemba just stands there looking away while Goku and Vegeta fuse.
This is one of my new favorite channel I predict this getting to be bigger channel
So much memories at the beginning with the button taps for the spirit bomb, sequence for the fusion dance, and the boulder slice with gohan
Nostalgia probably is a big reason for that, I love the Buu saga, and I love the movies set in that era!
I was waiting for this video! Thanks 👍🏻
this channel somehow combines all my childhood memories into one big blob of nostalgia
This actually looks really cool. Nice graphics and art-style!
I found levelling up more enjoyable in 3 and also the equipment and RPG elements in general were better in 3.
So if you lose SSJ in BF, you can still use energy attacks, but you can't in LoG)
I also speedrun the game as well because I like it so much
Also, at 6:45, if you do that part as Goten, Pilaf has different dialogue and thinks Goten is Goku and some other stuff, as opposed to the dialogue he has with Trunks about Bulma. I thought that was really cool when I played it
There's one glitch I love (getting a TON of senzu beans.
Legacy Of Goku 1 & 2 & Buus Fury Were My Childhood Nostalgic ASF
I also live in the UK, but had better luck when this game released. I picked up a US copy of Buu's Fury from a smaller local game shop that often carried imports.
LoG2 is definitely my favourite of the trilogy. So much so that it got me into making fan games in RPG Maker.
I always found the Legacy of Goku a strange name for it as Goku spends so much of the series dead, travelling to the battlefield (twice), lost in space, seriously ill, and dead (again).
You had me at "You find Goku in his natural element ~ dead'. Subscribing to you xD
made my childhood, I got lost in the grinding and ambiance for hours. my favorite song out of the soundtrack is the hercule city theme ❤
Spot on. My favorite is buus fury because that’s what I first watched growing up.
Legacy of Goku II is my favorite between the two, its my favorite DBZ arcs and it was such an upgrade from the first one that it blew my mind
