yes i called the dark artifices "the infernal devices" once in this video, i've done that like 2958366534t689347689 times on my channel it's all good lol
emmmabooks I started the shadowhunters series before I found out the infernal devices was the prequel to it, I’m reading the first book in the infernal devices now and I’m gonna reread the mortal instruments after.

CoFA is the most underrated book in the series I hope you enjoy it
Covenfan1234 it really is. I think it deserves better but anyways.
I just started city of bones yesterday because of her
DragonFly444 yay. Have fun reading.
Impressive
Personally, I suggest you to read those books :
City of bones
City of ashes
City of glass
City of fallen angels
City of lost souls
City of heavenly fire
Clockwork angel
Clockwork prince
Clockwork princess
Lady midnight
Lord of shadows
Queen of air and darkness
Chain of gold
And the other ones like ever you want, because Cassie Clare made those books in trilogies, therefor, you’ll follow the story of the characters during your reading.
That is how I read them but I watched this because I wasn't sure when to read the add-on books.
I'm confused after watching this video 😂 ... So i just started reading them ... I started with mortal instruments ... i finished first 3 books : bones , ashes, glass... i want to continue with city of fallen angels . So if i will skip clocwork series i will understand it right?
Because im really interested in jace's and clarie's story .... I really dont care about clockwork series right now .... So it will be clear right???
By the way whats clockwork series about? Will it make big difference to skip them?
@@miram8913 I’d say it’s fine to finish the mortal instruments first but just be warned that if you do plan on reading the infernal devices, city of heavenly fire spoils a major plot point from the ending of the infernal devices. Hope this helps! :)

I actually read the infernal devices first before TMI. And it worked out the best for me.
I like that way because that is how it is historically. And you get how the Institute is protected in City of Heavenly Fire. There are little references like that throughout the series. When I first read her books, Dark Artifices wasn't out yet so, I haven't read that series but I am excited to start it!
I read tid after tmi lol

As you can see, I have a death wish
u r really vvvv chaotic
Are there any references or important things in the bane chronicles? I don't really feel any urge to read it as of now since im still working through the main books. And there aren't really any official reviews of the book by known booktubers.
Wow, you must be very confused 😂
Claire T no, there isn’t anything important in the bane chronicles that relates to the storyline so you don’t have to red it. But, I recommend that you do because there is some really funny warlock moments (especially Ragnor Fell) and some parts relate to Clary’s parents and her backstory. Also, there is some ADORABLE malec moments at the end!
Regan Gregory alright, thank you so much
Hey I olnly want to comment that I love Will Herondale 😂❤

No words can describe how much I needed this
Can I just say that I am insanely grateful I saw the first HOW TO READ THE SHADOWHUNTER CHRONICLES video because I've been wanting to read this series for YEARS!! but I never knew how. And now these books literally control my life. They have inspired me and made me into a better person. And I honestly wouldn't have read it for a long time until I saw your first video about it. So thank you for being so obsessed with this amazing series!
Love how you can see how passionate you are about it these books! I actually got a healing rune tattooed on me yesterday. Never knew how much this series would become to me after I stumbled onto your channel and started the series
Omg you saved me!!! I’ve been wanting advice on this for SO long!! THANK YOU you amazing angel🥰🥰
Omfff yes I (for some reason) kept watching the old one over and over, thank you emma
that swiftie same!
I read all of TMI without knowing how many connections it had with TID but then I waited a year or 2 before reading TID and forgot about some of the stuff in the TMI epilogue so I was still shocked when I finished it. If this happens to you then immediately reread the CoHF after finishing TID because I did that and I have never cried harder in my life.
Thank you! God bless! I've been waiting for this updated version for so long..you are a queen, love you💕

The previous TSC order video was so helpful for me when I was first getting into the series. It's nice to see an updated version
I have read all of CC canon multiple times and know all of this information- yet I am watching this video. Listening to you talk through this topic which you’re so passionate about is very relaxing and comforting.
YAAASSS!!! TID was my fav from Cassandra, I love the era of that series and Jem is bae 😭 I’m SO excited that Chain Of Gold will be in the same era!
TID was also so beautifully written. The dialect was amazing
I read City of Heavenly Fire before The Infernal Devices and I kinda regret it. I 100% wish I had read it in publication order or read TID before the last three books of TMI.
LIFESAVER video !!!!! I've been considering reading these books but I had ABSOLOUTLY NO IDEA about how to read them !!!
I decided to read this series based on publication order, which I ended up finding a list for; as well as watching your OG video!! I am currently on Lord of Shadows and have been enjoying it!!! You & Christine inspired me to read these! So, it’s been an amazing experience 🥰
Im SO early ! btw I watch all your videos and love you ❤️

I think I want to reread by Publication Order.
I love the little notes at the end. So important!
Thanks Emma!
I started my journey with the infernal devices and I am currently reading clockwork prince. The shadow hunter world is soooooo amazing........
I loveeeddd Infernal Devices- when you get through most of the books (included the other series in the chronicles) you’ll love the little things/characters that are the same throughout
So glad you did an update!!!!!!! I have read up to The Shadow Hunter’s Academy and I’m still going 💪.

Oh my gosh, I had not read the Shadowhunters Chronicles when I first saw your previous video on how to read it. Fast forward to a year later and I can say that, for me, reading them in publication order is the best way to go as you won’t risk being spoiled.
Thank you Emma for making an updated version of this video. The Shadowhunters Chronicles have quickly become my favorite series of all times. I remember reading all of the mortal instruments first and being so confused in city of heavenly fire with jem and tessa
Jem and Tessa are in City of Heavenly Fire? Why did she say to read the Infernal Devices before the 6th book? I've read both The Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices and am confused.
Claire Adams yeah jem and tessa are in city of heavenly fire that’s why it’s important to read the infernal devices first
@@claireadams2503 Yeah Jem and Tessa were at the party at the end of City of Heavenly. Emma's basically saying read the Infernal Devices first to understand who Jem and Tessa and how they were able to be at the party even though they're from the 1800s
I remember reading this exact comment before starting the Infernal Devices and:
1) I was assumed Jem was girl based on the name and thought he was a girl for the first few sentences of Clockwork Angel and immediately predicted that "she" was going to end up with Will at the end of the series and
2) I was expecting Jem and Tessa to time travel at the end of Clockwork Prince to modern day and appear in City of Heavenly Fire where the two stories basically merge and conclude into one (I was very disappointed this didn't happen but I still love the stories nonetheless)
I just bought City of Bones and I see this. YAS I NEEDED THIS
I’ve just finished TID and have read the first 3 TMI and was wondering when to read red scrolls of Magic so this video coming out now is literally PERFECT timing !!!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
bless your shadowhunter content, seriously! i love that you continue to talk about these books frequently as someone who‘s just as much of a big fan! :)
i actually also read the first five tmi books for the 1st time over 1-2 years (bc i didn’t want them to be over) and read tid, reread tmi and read cohf and the shadowhunter academy and then the bane chronicles. i‘ve read tda and then read the first 8 gotsm stories. and now i can finally read in publication order 😂 this is so messy but i still got to appreciate so much of the content!
I read the first three Mortal Instruments back when it was still a trilogy, and then re-read them before reading the fourth, fifth, and sixth books. Then I read all of TID and went onto TDA much later (I waited until Queen of Air and Darkness was out before I read any of them because I really like marathoning series and felt for some reason felt EXTRA strong on that point with the Shadowhunter books).
Once the Wicked Powers series is out and complete, I plan on making a GIANT chart and reading the entire world in exact chronology..
My experience was to read in publication order, which I am still doing as I’m currently reading Red Scrolls of Magic, and I totally get you with that reference. I read it earlier and was like ooooh 😮😁.
Part of me is desperate for the chronicles to be finished. I’m in desperate need of a reread, especially the earlier books, and I want to do my reread in timeline order. It seems that I will have to wait several more years yet to embark on that journey.
Thank you for this. If anyone is to be trusted concerning the shadow hunters, it‘s you 😌
Finally Emma!! I've been waiting and asking for sooo long!! Thank you ♡
Does anyone remember that Magnus called baby Alec a repellent brat in the bane chronicles!? 🤣🤣
OMG he didn't!! It reminds me when Magnus started all lightwoods look the same to him in TID and I was laughing my ass off.
Perfect timing! I just started reading Cassandra Clare’s books lol I started with City of Bones and just finished City of Ashes :) this was so helpful thanks
I finished the City of Bones some days ago and loved it. I'm definitely reading the others so these video is super useful! 💛
BLESS THIS VIDEO. Thank you so much Emma! I am planning a reread of TMI and TID this summer so that I can jump into TDA. This is so helpful!!!

I watched your older version of this video last month and I started City of Bones and now im obsessed!! Im nearly finished Clockwork Angel now and I cant wait to read all the other books! 😍😍
i can always count on emma to lift my mood! i’m reading it as the first three tmi books, the first three tid (im on clockwork prince) then the last three of tmi, the bind ups, and then tda!! im having so much and after i finish all the books i plan to reread in publication order to get the experience
0:14 I think that's the best thing I've ever seen! I don't know why...it just is.
I've seen your other video but i still clicked the video 😂
I read TID first and definitely didn't regret it because i had a hard time reading TMI after it. I just prefer TID over TMI 🤷🏻♀️. I'm planning on starting TDA soon 😊
Tda will fill ur heart and make u feel whole, then it will crush your spirit, soul and heart...
Sorry if that sounded morbid. But its the truth. WHY LIE?
@@wx3359 I'm not totally surprised 😂 It's sounds familiar since TID was a punch in the heart. So i guess that what makes us keep reading Cassandra's books?! 😂
Wow I was just thinking about seeing your other video on how to read this books. I just recently got the books and wanted to know the order on how to read them. Thanks!! This video really helped.
Only last year I started reading the shadowhunter chronicles after I heard about it on your channel and I am so thankful that I did because it has really changed my way of thinking. So thank you emma for introducing me to the shadow world .❤
Love from India
Pretty sure I started with City of Bones then switched to TID before going back to TMI then read all in physical format publication order
In Germany Queen of air and darkness will be released in four days and ghosts of the shadowmarket will be released in october. That's way to long to wait for reading ghosts of the shadowmarket before queen of air and darkness.
I finished lord of shadows yesterday and even these four days are way to long to wait before I can read on xD
Definitely needed this! I started getting very confused recently about all the new releases and this cleared it up for me! I initially read the first 5 books of TMI and then all of TID and then cohf and then continued onto Lady midnight and lord of shadows but before reading qoad I am back tracking and re reading everything plus reading the bane chronicals and tales from the shadowhunter academy for the first time!
Yes! Finally, Ive been waiting for an update, thanks Emma 💕
I LOVE SHADOWHUNTERS, despite the profile pic xd
I read TMI, TID, TDA, Shadowhunter Academy, The Bane Chronicles, then Red Scrolls :)
I am literally on city of heavenly fire (loving the series so far
This was so needed!! As someone who knows how beloved Cassie Clare’s books are, but never read them, I needed this guide to know where to start. Bc it definitely is a lot to go into blindly 🙈
I've read City of Bones and City of Ashes a few years ago. After hearing about Chain of Gold coming out, I thought I'd go ahead and continue with all the series. And I'm gonna do it with the order of The Four Trilogies. I'm so excited! Thanks for making this video. It helps a lot. 👍🏿😀
I cant even commit to a trilogy jheez
Duologies intimidate me
U don't have to finish it. I don't know why people think we need to finish a series when start , u can stop whenever u like😂
I'm a huge fan of the shadowhunters Chronicles... I read all of TMI first then TID then TDA the the ghost of the shadowhunter market then shadowhunter academy then the last hours... havent read anything pertaining to Magnus yet. I havent got my hand on a copy.. but I would really like to read them over in order of publication
I read the entire chronicles for the first time last year and used your original video to decide which order to read in! It was super helpful! I read it in the second way you suggested - Reading the infernal devices half way through the mortal instruments. I found this best as there wasn’t too much switching between series but you were never spoiled or confused and understood all the little references! Would definitely recommend this way!!!
