How come this universe is so large, like, how did the author write this many books in one single serie? 💀
It doesn't get repetitive? Damn
Not really! The world was built really well and each series takes place in a different time period, different place in the world, different problem! Plus once you fall in love with the idea of shadowhunters the repetitiveness of what they do doesn’t get boring it’s just fun to see! Plus there’s always new characters and some characters make appearances.. you just want to read more and more of it!
It's more like she design a whole universe that she feels comfortable wriring in, and she writes 3-book series about diffrent characters, she also shows perspectives of many diffrent type of characters and totally diffrent places. But she has also said where The Shadowhunter Chronicles are going to end, as in no more books.
It doesn’t because the series’ span over many many years. The setting changes and the villains change and the language too. Also, there are small mysteries that are unveiled between the series’ so it makes it exciting and heartwarming.
@J.Nord maybe this series just is not for you. You have complaints about the very skeleton and foundation of the entire book universe 😂😂. It’s not for you, and that’s okay.

The infernal devices is one of my favorite book-series! It’s truly amazing! I do regret stopped after the mortal instruments, but I had to take a break from the Shadowhunter-universe to read other books lol. But after watching this it made me want to pick up the rest! Love your videos!

Great video! I can see how this pattern would definitely help those that are just getting into the series. Although, I personally read it by publication date so that's how I would recommend others to do it . I started reading in 2007 and then purchased the book as they're released. There's something magical knowing a character from MI series and then reading them later on in the TID series. It's like getting a glimpse of their past. MI series is my favorite. :D
Watched this at Oct 29, 2022. And Im glad I see this now because I am just going to start buying/collecting and reading the Shadowhunters universe. And it is quite a lot of books but this really helps a lot.

The first book I started reading was Lady Midnight because I was intrigued by the thickness of the book. It was the book that got me hooked with the Shadowhunters world. Now I want to read all the books!!

This was a great video but I recommend reading it in the publication order. To have the best feels and avoid any sort of spoilers. Instead of reading it chronologically.

My first thought: you must have very long arms 😂 thank you for making this video! I own City of Bones but I have always been super intimidated to start this series because there's so many books and I wasn't sure the best order to read them in
I pushed the shadowhunter world off for a long time For the same reason. My sister owned the original city of bones books because she bought them when they came out and she let me have them when I started my library but I was always nervous about if I should read those first or the other series so that’s why I decided to make this video because I figured other people were in the same situation that I was when I was trying to get into the universe so I’m happy that this video hopefully helped you :) If you have any questions about the Shadowhunters I love talking about them so feel free to ask me anything if you’re still confused
Hi there. New to the channel. As I my novel trilogy was in it's infancy, someone told me about the original Mortal Instruments series. So I started there, but have NOT finished the entire Shadowhunter series yet, because I've been working on my YA trilogy. Good video.

Sooo, it is 3 months already since I found one of the Shadowhunters books at the library near my home. I started reading it knowing it was by far not the first one (it was City of Angels), but something about the writing style really captivated me and I started wondering if I should give them a try. I knew they were tons of books! But somehow I ended up buying Clockwork Angel and that was the beginning of everything. I just finished Chain of Iron and I feel lost, so many questions. But I'll have to wait. I'll do it happily. This World is all worth it. Meanwhile I'll start City of Bones and I'll most probably feel a little bit shocked of not having my lovely characters (Will, Tessa, James, Cordelia, Matthew....) with me

What sort of books do you generally read?
@@AvivasLibrary "I happen to be a graphic designer", oh it shows! I'm very pulpy and geeky in my taste. I read mostly fantasy, sci-fi, horror, thrillers, that kind of stuff. To be honest, I haven't read aaaall that much in my life. Maybe about 50 or 60 books in my entire life (not counting academic stuff), but I just recently bought a Kindle and OMG I'm super excited :D ! I already bought tons of e-books from my favorite authors, like King, Crichton, Tolkien, etc.

It’s funny, I have my sisters copy of the hobbit and I keep wanting to try it but idk why I’m intimidated it tolkein. I feel like if I pick it up at the wrong time and then not like it I’m going to ruin but Ik I could really love him if I give him a good shot so it’s just sitting there, waiting lol
I have to say, I like this different approach first. I get it as to TID being in early 1900’s London, the characters, etc. I read the first three Mortal instruments books before, then I was advised to start reading Clockwork Angel, I read it halfway like 2 years ago and got into a book slump, not sure why. Maybe because everything was happening all at once and it was complex. But I did eventually finish Clockwork Angel. Then I put them all down. Since I have seen the lovely covers, of The Last Hours, the first one is so pretty. Chain of Gold. I really didn’t think I could read this new series after TID, because of spoilers like you mentioned for The Mortal Instruments, and for events at the end of City of Heavenly Fire, also like you mentioned. I knew you had to read Clockwork Princess before the City Of Heavenly Fire. I am not aware of events in last book in TMI. But I kind of get your idea as to reading this way. It’s like a fresh different look plus I really want to read Chain Of Gold. Lol. Thank you for this new way of reading it.

I read them: TMI, TID, TDA, TftSA, CoG, tRSoM, CoI. Currently reading TBA and tLBoW. definitely recommend reading TMI first.

Great video! I’m biased because I wasn’t a big fan of the first three TMI books, but I totally agree you should start with TID. I haven’t read TLH yet as I’m waiting for all three to be out, but I think chronological order is probably the way to go.
I just started the last hours series. I finished chain of gold and my review of it is actually going up in a day or two. And I’m going to be reading chain of iron next but I totally agree with waiting for it all to be over. I kind of wish I did wait lol I find I always enjoy series more when they are read back to back and therefore I’ll probably reread the first two books next year before the last book comes out lol

I still have to finish the Artemis Fowl series, and I am itching to read the Inheritance Cycle. Thank you for showing this! Needed a better explanation of how to read them because it a little confusing of how to actually read them. Even tho there not an actual order some people read The Moral Instruments the whole series (1-6) then read the The Infernal Device (1-3). It a lot how to read them in different ways but I don’t want to get confused and get any spoilers on the story. I’ll definitely try these in order thanks!!!! 🥰
I’m so glad to hear this series helped! I think it’s very confusing and there’s no right answer so I’m always for reading things in chronological order because even though it wasn’t published that way it’s like reading it as it happened! If you have any questions please feel free to ask! I love the shadowhunters so much I can talk all day about it!
You'll get some minor spoilers however you read it. I disagree with Aviva, it's best to start reading The Mortal Instruments first, then The Infernal Devices, and then The Dark Artifices(definitely read TDA last because there are lots of spoilers in it for the other ones). And I still haven't read The Last Hours, I'm waiting for all the books to be released.
@@katiat5297 some people said you don’t not necessarily but from my understanding is the infernal device happened 200 years before the immortal instrument. I had been researching on how to read them and so many people had said the same thing over and over. There no exact order you read however you want to read them.
@@dayannareadforever687 as someone who’s read the series twice, I’d recommend reading them in publication order, meaning you’ll mix series. There are a lot of references that you won’t understand if you read them differently and minor spoilers so it may not be as enjoyable. But you should still read them how you want.
@@sakinaalia1067 well I brought the clockwork angel first because it was on sale for $5 so I ended up reading it first. I’ll choice how I want to read them because so many people had said there so many different ways to read them there is no exact order to read the series you read them how you want to read them.

I read it in publication order (kind of). And I also liked it this way. Because you can’t get spoiled this way. You didn’t get to know things you’re not supposed to know at the time

I have like two books from CC. Lady Midnight, and Chain of Gold. I feel like I'm missing a LOT of plot holes, because there are a lot of people I have to look up, and be like, "...okay, this is what they look like" just in my mind- I kind of wish CC had a couple of pages describing what things are, and why things are the way they are... but I guess that's what the internet is for. Lol.
I read the mortal instrument series then clockwork Angel series and their the only books i have so far haha
After the first 6, I've been reading them as audiobooks so i didn't realize it was so much now lmao

I'm now prepared to take on this series, and so here I am! I tried to read City of Bones a awhile back but I couldn't get past the first few chapters as I feel something is missing. Now I know why lol though technically speaking city of bones is the first book is publication order I believe?
This is a good reading order for rereading....but I think once the Last hours is finish ..and u read it right after TID ...it kinda spoils TDA...especially since one character like Malcolm would not be such a surprise anymore...he's tied into Chain of Iron you see..

Hey! I’ve seen a LOT of people recommend these series so I came here for a tutorial on how to read it. I was just wondering how bad the demons are? Because I don’t really like really scary demons but if it’s not that bad then I’ll read it. The only demon encounter in a book I’ve read was spin the dawn and that wasn’t bad at all.
the demons are not bad AT ALL! throughout all the series you sometimes even get to know a few and their actually pretty funny! if that's what holding you back I would say dont worry at all!

Where would the eldest curses come in at I don't want to read out of the order they happened in. Thank you for this video it has really helped me figure out the best way to read all of the books
The first eldest curses takes place at the midpoint of the mortal instruments series like I mentioned in this video. The second book takes place after the series
I have a fun question! Do u care if your books from the different series are from different publishers as well! Like eg: TMI from McElderly, then TID from Walker Books etc. ? And does book spine design matters to u?
I don’t care about publishers but I would like if the spines all matched! Specifically in the shadowhunter series, all the new paperbacks have that pretty black and white photo so I would need the photo to be complete.

I picked up chain of gold HAVING ZERO KNOWLEDGE that it was part of such a dense series lol.
I loved it so much the band of characters are *chefs kiss* I thought it was a great mix of plot and character driven plot. Even though im definitely reading out of order I NEEDED MORE SHADOWHUNTER in my life (especially in regards to James and Matthew lol). So I picked up clockwork angel. I’m not quite sure if I’ll read the ENTIRE series just because I’m reading it BACKWARDS…
but for jumping right into the universe through chain of gold it wasn’t too confusing and definitely worth it.
Not gonna lie…I really wish I could have experienced the “last hour series” after developing deeper relationships to the characters in the previous series. But it’s still amazing.
I am new too it I got into it when I bought City of Bones for the first time still reading it by the way
City of bones was great but it was my least favorite series from all of them. Not that it was bad at all, but the others were so much better in my opinion!

@@nerdygeekgamer5528 haha that is definitely a random collection of books... your missing all the main series!!! I would definitely recommend filling in the gaps of what you don’t have and reading them all in chronological order... if you pick up something like tales from the shadowhunter academy before finishing the whole mortal instruments series... you won’t even understand the book! And same for the others! That’s why I highly recommend reading it in this specific order!!
@@AvivasLibrary I have them all I started with City of Bones and then added the Infernal Devices trilogy and then I added the rest of the Mortal Interments and then I added the Dark Artifices trilogy and now I'm adding the Last Hours trilogy to my Shadowhunter's TBR list I don't normally read a book series in order but for these I will my first introduction to a chapter book's was the middle grade Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series and I was only a toddler I was 4 it was 1992 and It was Christmas time actually I never use to read fantasy but I just one day figured why not the worst that could happen is I don't like it but I LOVE THE BOOKS because my usual routine when I would go into a book store was to go straight to the mystery thriller section but now I just wander the book store and if I see a book I might like and I read the synopsis I buy it

I’m not sure what made me get into fantasy but I’ve always loved it and now I mostly read fantasy romance and a little mystery. I’m not very good and trying new genres. I’m not against any genres I just currently don’t care to read anything other than fantasy romance or mystery lol. I hope one day I’ll get a little brauder with my taste
I think it is very good you haven't read chain of gold till the end. I tis ine of my more beloved series from tsc but even I prefer to read the books in chronologically, chog should be read in the end, for everyone who hasn't read the series jet. Only because of the reason that all the shortstory books has some stories who introduced you to the charas and tlh makes more fun if you know all their backstory
True! I actually liked all of the last hour characters in that short stories more than I did when I finally got around to reading their books
@@AvivasLibrary me too. James got better in ChoI but I hated Matthew. Especially after the end of ChoI. It was clear that James loved Cordelia, even if he didn't known it himself. But Matthew as his parabatai should have known it! He should have known something is off. But he decided to ignore it, so he could have Cordelia for himself. That's totally not a good quality for a parabatai. And his hate for Alistair is totally misplaced. The baby thing was his fault but he blames Alistair for being honest and telling him directly the rumors everyone was talking behind his back.

Is it ok to read Lady Midnight first without reading any other book on this series?
You can but if you do you will be missing out on backstory from the two pain characters that you get at the end of the mortal instruments series. In last midnight there are also a lot of characters that show you that you originally will meet in the mortal instruments series and without reading that series first… your not going to understand who they are and all the connections

Do you still stand by this reading order, anything you would change a year later or having read comments? I read the original 3 when they were first published and I think 2 other books but that was mega years ago and I honestly can’t remember a thing! I’m wanting to read the lot this winter and wondering how to do it. I watched a similar video from emmmabooks…. And I’ve confused myself 😂
I still stand by this order but I don’t think it really makes a huge difference so do wtvr your feeling like doing!

i never read the series, is it crazy if i say i'm going to wait until the writer finish off writing everything (the wicked powers emhemm) only then i start to read city of bones ? XD
That’s not a crazy thing at all! I have a big thing for waiting until series are completed because I like to binge it all! The only difference here is that each series is able to stand by themselves even though they all connect plus the wicked powers won’t be completed for a handful of years!! But if the wicked powers were closer to being completed I would have done the same thing!
What about "The black volume of dead" ??? Is that the third one of eldest curses? Is it going to release soon ? Can you clear me about this...

It’s the book that comes after chain of gold so yes I would recommend to read the last hour series in order whenever you choose to read it

I think whichever you choose would be ok and I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Go with your gut and which book is calling out to you next
The tales from the shadow hunters academy isn’t really short stories cause they all go together
True but I’m pretty sure it’s technically considered a collection of short stories!

I think it depends how much you enjoy the infernal devices! I’ll admit and say the mortal instruments was my least favorite series out of all of them but if you want to read the world and it’s other series like the dark artifices you should read it!
I really enjoy the infernal devices, I’m not super excited about the mortal instruments but I definitely want to read the rest so I think I’ll give it a try ! 🤗
@@DanielaTorres-qw6uo what aren’t you excited about from that series? It was my least favorite but it was still really good! Also magnus bane is super prominent in that series and he’s one of my fav characters overall so that’s one reason I loved it! Also if your interested in the dark artifices, you meet those characters in mortal instruments so it’s cute to see them when their younger!
I agree on magnus bane, he seems like a pretty interesting character and I would like to read more about him! Yes you are right I think I should read it!

Their ya so there aren’t many like hard words but I only read and speak English so I really wouldn’t know what is easy or hard to read with a second language 🥴

Infernal devices is a great series and can definitely be read on its own! If you end up loving the world and shadowhunters in general you can pick up the other series in the future!

I read the original trilogy (bones ashes glass) when they first came out and I thought that she was done. I thought - she's an okay writer and that the story was okay. Nothing impressive.
I didn't plan on reading any other books from her..... Little did I know that there would be about 20 more in the same "world" 😦💰 now that is impressive but doesn't make me want to reinvest.

I wouldn't ever trust anything with than many volumes, and volumes of such dimensions at that. It just makes me believe that the author doesn't know how to condensate and they're gonna waste my time, plus they are probably pumping them out with low consideration for quality.
