    The solvent dissolves the pigment and mixes it into the dry erase pigment. Rubbing alcohol will work too.

    Rubbing alcohol is a dream. You're just dissolving the Sharpie pigment in the Expo solvent. It's cool and all, just don't waste your Expo ink (they ain't cheap).
    Dry erase markers just have that extra oily barrier ingredient that sets itself up between the board and the pigment so the pigment dries on the oil instead of the board.
    That's why if you smear an Expo before it's dry, it's very hard to remove the smudges.

    You can also use dry erase marker remover on the whiteboard eraser pad. You kind of have to soak it, but try it. Spray on the eraser pad. A well-used pad works best, because it has dry erase "ink" already impregnated in it. Thus you won't have to waste the DE markers.

      I got a matte whiteboard, and removing "white board marker" drawings etc is cancer. I gotta use a damp cloth or something and rub on it for good 2 minutes until it comes off. Any idea what I´m doing wrong? Using the wrong marker?

    In such a situation I'd automatically look for rubbing alcohol. I didn't know that this would work too. Will it still work if it's "cured" as dried over a period of time

      I just did it to a magnetic mini board that had the word "SHOPPING" on the top in permanent marker for probably 20 years. This trick worked and I was shocked. Of course, in the right light, you can see where that word used to be because it's whiter than the rest of the board.

    Another tip: really old board marker may stick beyond easy whipe off and leave nasty sticky stains. Using just a wet towel will easily wipe the muck off.

    Perhaps is kind of refreshing the ink, or getting under the permanent marker so you can scrub both ... No idea why either, but it's nice to know :)

    Alcohol will do if you want to clean it out entirely. If you have alcohol based deodorant handy, that'll work. You might have to deal with the odor. A bottle of rubbing alcohol or isopropanol around whiteboards is usually a good safety net.

  • @ThisMicrophoneSoundsCheap
    @ThisMicrophoneSoundsCheap 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    IPA, the alcohol stuff for cleaning electronics is damn effective at cleaning permanent marker away and I'd guess you might have some of it at work. Can get the smudges off without any rubbing.

  • @PhilXavierSierraJones

    Isopropyl/rubbing alcohol or whiteboard cleaner works too :)

      Acetone is very powerful stuff.
      But still some people take out the acetone to polish their '57 LesPaul sunburst. And 30 000$ violins. According to an instrument maker I knew.

    Wipe the whole board with this using a cloth or paper towel.
    It will remove that gray haze and make the whole board look new and shiny white.
