Who wants to go to a show and watch a band look at their guitars all night and never address the crowd or even acknowledge their existence. The live show has died.
Jason had a MAJOR injury to his right arm, and while he has regained full use for day to day life, he's not able to play (specifically, thrash metal) at this level anymore. That's why he WROTE on the self-titled Flots album, but didn't play on it, or rejoin the band. It's sadly not going to happen :/

Great musicians, and amazing songwriting is the reason these guys are still playing packed shows in 2021. We used to set the boom box up and skate for hours to this cassette.
If you grew up in Arizona at that time your would see the influence Jeff Martin (racer x, badlands, surgical steel) had on Eric's stage presence. I miss those days.
I'm 40 and I picked up like 7 Flotsam albums in a second hand shop like 17 ir 18 years ago. I decided to listen to them in order of release. The first song off of Doomsday "Hammerhead" made me say out loud in my car all by myself "Holy Fucking Shit! This is AWESOME!"
Metal Monday at Clancey’s once a month back in the day… Those were awesome shows every time. Saw them on Halloween in 86 at Jason’s last show with Flotsam too !!

1st recording was an EP cassette given to a very few back then titled from this video The Beast from Within. I had that cassette forever and it just disappeared. I saw these guys as The Dogz in a Scottsdale living room and played quarters with Jason. Good times. Then I look in the mirror and say “Holy Shit dude. You’re old!”
Jason should be recognized as a top tier metal bassist, his attack and attitude is inspiring. If you unplugged his rig you would still hear him beating the shit out of his bass.

Sometimes i think why jason didn't returned to this band since he left metallica, he would've returned to his roots were he was another member of the band and not the "new guy"...just a shame..
Well imagine your best friend leaving you but wish the best for him wholeheartedly. Now look back at how Metallica mistreated him. At the time Cliff passed away, Flotsam n Jetsam were every bit as good as Metallica, just a lil less popular . F n J had to move on w/o him and then see him mistreated by Metallica yet he stayed w/them until he just couldn't Flotsam had to push on and find a new band mate. It was impossible for Jason to return ....I wish otherwise but he probably knows like I do, he should've never left Flotsam n Jetsam. Edit ; 2 bands were destroyed or became way less than what they were after Cliff died....just my 2 cents, peace and love
When you have to tour with a psychiatrist to keep it together...... Yeah, time to abandon ship. It's like the scene in the movie Rock Star where Chris Cole is fired from the cover band, and Jennifer Aniston says: "All the talent in this band, just walked out the door."
This is greatness, I was listening to this in 1988!! But you know what I think? Newsted had a hell of an opportunity and he blew it. When he came out with his band Newsted. He blew $2,000,000 paying for them to tour..play big festivals..trying to get his name out there and it flopped. They covered classic Met and he put 110% into those shows. But he could have done anything he wanted. He's rich. He could have done old school thrash and we all would have loved it. But he didn't. He tried to write stuff with the times..Soldierhead was the MV single. So Newsted was only around from 2012 to 2014. It's too bad.
