Wild Seasons was the worst scam ever... was kickstarted, humble sold, and such and the dev just vanished... we've been trying to get steam to delist it for years at this point
They had a planned PS4 release, it was even advertised by the publisher in one of their other games on PS4. That's how I learned about the game. They used to have dev live streams on TH-cam too. At first they advertised you could also marry any character regardless of gender, then they changed their minds and only let you marry some of them. lol
Omgosh, the, "Lame... I mean Lamu..." had me ROLLING! Ever since I tried the game it's been an ongoing roast in my Discord. Hilarious! Thanks so much for this awesomely terrible series of game reviews Josh~ 💚
The idea of having massive debt that you have to pay off by farming and you gain more debt every day is hilarious to me. I wish that game was actually good.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker has that, but it's not a farming game. You have a huge debt to pay off, it gains interest each day, and you work it off at your job. It's still a nice chill-out game if you play on the open shift difficulty with unlimited oxygen.
Also not a farming game but a management game. Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale You have a debt you have to pay that increases each week def recommend it!
This was hilarious, but I also think it would be a good video for developers to check out before releasing their own games. You've got some good tips in here about what makes games feel good to play.
Wild Seasons was worse... I bought off humble for $19 US dollars before it became obvious we were scammed and think the backers say in the reviews they paid 24 on up?
This is why I now will only wait for reviews from the brave people like you Josh for me to make a decision. Farming games have popped up so much and unless they have a demo for me to try I wait for others like you to see if its a go or no go. because I have bought some regrettable purchases I should have done research on.
Oh I remember being so excited for Wild Seasons at one point 😭 The idea sounded so promising in the kickstarter, but luckily I was a teenager with no money
nooooo not Wild Season, I didn't even know you could still buy that?! I was one of the early backers, at the time it felt like there was a lull in the farming sim scene ("cozy games" wouldn't even be a term for years), stardew valley wasn't out yet, and the devs SEEMED very open and communicative with the community. I even just searched "wild season quickfire games" on youtube and their channel is still up with all the podcast episodes where they were talking about the development process. TBH I still think the hook about ending up in one of those cozy farm sim small towns but they're very suspicious and uneasy of you at first is a pretty neat idea and I still want to know how it would've played out. when they suddenly made a statement that the game was going to become episodic people were pissed, then the actual 'episode 1' released and things got worse, and then as far as i know all the quickfire games accounts were ghosted. there's probably more story out there somewhere, some years ago I tried to look through their accounts again and some twitter statistics bot had taken over their twitter account for months. any time a friend sees that game in my account and asks about it I just have to respond with nervous laughter.... oh, wild season. one of my clearest memories of that game is going into some sort of beach area and walking right until i can see the edge of the terrain and solid black beyond it. that was the moment I realized there was no hope left for that game.
Josh, just to let you and anybody else watching the video who aren't aware know... the three cat girls shown in your gameplay of Farm Debt Repay Life are stolen from a fairly well-known Japanese eroge Nekopara. Lolas is Azuki, Gothilia is Cinnamon, and Lily is Maple 😭
There is an upcoming game called "Wild Seasons" that seems to be a deckbuilder-roguelike with a gimmick where you "grow" your cards in a garden - sadly they will be confused with this mess of an abandoned kickstarter.
I can't believe how hard this video made me laugh. The first time I lost it is Josh's deadpan delivery of "here they're walking much faster without even having to go diagonally." The worst farming game I've played is called World's Dawn. Much like these it barely worked and was not fun. The map design was horrible, the controls felt unresponsive, and lots of things did not make sense. It might have improved since I played it since it has a "very positive" rating on Steam now.
wild seasons set the standards so low the other asset flip games seem much more competent in comparison lol. If only Godzilla was actually in the game, i think it would certainly improve the farming experience to sell turnips to Godzilla.
Wild Season was dropped. I did back the game.... They abandoned it, sadly, and never released the entire thing, just a partial game. Honestly I don't understand how/why it wasn't pulled from the Steam storefront... I would gladly give you access to more info, sadly the dev posted Kickstarter updates that you could only read on their now (dead) website.
The absolute audacity of Wild Season to copy the map from FoMT on top of everything else! It may not be a 1:1 recreation, but I noticed the uncanny similarity as soon so you started walking around the farm. 🙃
That Wild Season sure reminds me of Harvest Moon BTN. Lamu really looks like an Early Access game. I guess for the last game, the naming was messed up when they translated it into English. The Wild Season looked promosing and probably would have been a nice game after some polishing, but it was abandoned. Too bad.
I have so much respect you played so much of that first game, it looks terrible! Looks like the developers not put love into that one, and selling it for 19 dollars is crazy!
I was interested in Farm Debt Repay Life (agree it's a terrible name, even if it describes the main idea of the game) as I found the concept interesting - until I played the demo. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever played but it was definitely lacking in many ways and a bit boring. Thank for your sacrifice 😂 I'm sure another video would be entertaining.
Thank you for suffering for us, Josh! I'd be interested in a part 2. When I looked at Wild Season on Steam I didn't see an option to buy it, strange. One of the worst games I played lately was Spellfarers, a free to play cozy MMO type game similar to Palia. But the controls were pretty bad...among other things.😅
Oh wow the catgirls from farm dbet repay life are stolen assets 😂😭 Literally Cinnamon, Azuki, and Maple from Nekopara (not a farming sim, look up at your own risk)
Oh gosh this is gonna be a ton of disasters isnt it.... Edit: the repay debt mechanic in the last game is interesting. Too bad it's not super polished as a game.
yay!!! i'm so glad you made this video. it's always so much fun to watch you review those disasters LOL it's my favorite type of video i had a very difficult week and my depression was kicking my butt and making me reconsider being on this planet, so thank you Josh for always posting amazing content. i'm sure everybody would love to see more of this type of video!!
I'm someone who doesn't program and I've been messing around with a project to develop an HM fan game using the BYOND engine and the first game mystified me because the core gameplay seems to be barely functional. It's like looking at the fangame I'm afraid to make but it's a game people buy for real money. The diagonal movement thing is something I ironed out quickly referring to documentation by others so I'm sure for whatever engine Wild Seasons was made in... SURELY someone had documented a way to fix this very, very common issue in pixel games? And the fact putting items into the shipping bin is so difficult is craaaazy, one of the first things I implemented was picking up items and putting them into the tile your player is facing... I'm actually not sure how they messed this up given the engine seems to be RPG maker? So, basically, what I'm saying is as someone with next to no coding experience who is making a fan game for free, the immediate issues jumping out at me are ones I fixed within a few hours of studying and troubleshooting. Wow. I feel so bad for anyone who kickstarted this. My condolences, y'all.
Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is just about the most disappointing game I've ever played. It doesn't really get bad till the end, where the quests you need to level up your students reasonably have just all disappeared and the story progression stops because you can't level up your newer students! It's like it punishes you for doing the thing that increases your school's reputation, which is graduating the damn students. It was especially frustrating because it was a game I wanted to like, I had played Valthirian Arc on Kongregate a long time ago and had a good time, and didn't remember that previous game having the same sort of frustrating progression issues late game that this one had.
Wild Season was also going to be sold in 4 episodes (each episode unlocking a season iirc). Did any of the other episodes come out? Scummy regardless. ETA: Monster Harvest had similar issues to I saw being talked about on Wild Harvest. The Devs don't even seem to have it in their page. As someone who was active in the Discord and saw how things went I can't even sarcastically say big shocker
ahhhh the wild seasons. I remember the drama when it launched lol thank god i was a poor student who couldn't do kickstarter back then It sounded really promising and the devs did live stream on twitch i think? few times too so it looked like it was going to come out all good lol
I think it will be fun if you do this series on stream! If you manage to have fun with the game in 2 hours, you keep it. Otherwise, just get a refund from steam.
Did you set timers so you could refund the games if they were bad? 10+ bucks is not a small amount of money. Lamu seems like a partly skeleton of what can be a good game, but it also shouldn't be in early access yet (or it should be free). It's almost like this is their way to raise money to develop the game and it's just the start instead of something far enough along for play testing (so early access).
Steam has so much grade inflation that even "Mostly Positive" makes me pause and read the reviews to see what's wrong with a game. Lower than that...yikes.
kinda wild for wild season (heh sorry) i remembered I tried to apply for their company but I didn't got in. next thing I knew, they closed down for good. the reasoning i saw was that they don't have enough dev programmers and they kept hiring a bunch of artists lmao sad and angry on how they went this way. it was one of the interesting game companies i saw during my college. they even hosted stuff in my alma mater before due to this game and yet they couldn't even finish it. what a sham --- I definitely love sassy Josh 😂
All these farming games were made to cash in on the success of Stardew, while Stardew was made with passion and love from someone who loved Harvest Moon, and wanted to make the best version of it he could.
These games feel like part of the steam bundle keys scam. They make a lot of barely playable games and they know almost no one would buy them directly so they sell these bundles with 30+ random steam keys, promissing at least one good game on the bundle. So they make money without really making games
I have to admit that there does seem to be some fun in playing shit games like these. If only they would bundle several of them together at a cheap price, then I'd probably buy it
