    Great review and demonstration. You made some really beautiful sounds with that thing. I absolutely love the look of that guitar. When you see that blue sparkle shine in the light it makes me feel like I'm 10 years old again staring at some psychedelic light.

    I love mine, in Black . I just had to lower the action a little bit, but the set up was already amazing, right out of the box (yes, mine was sold brand new with no case, no soft bag !!!!). Luckily Duesenberg makes GEAT soft case now. The versatility is beyond my expectations : I already own a Falken, but it lacks the snappy sound and feeling of a bolt on neck when you play in single coil mode. The Starplayer is great in every position : you can switch from a twangy bridge single coil sound in Albert Collins style to full neck humbucker / woman tone in BB King style. Great guitar, I still don't understand why Duesenberg discontinued this model !

    Very nice camera work. You really make that guitar sing.

    I've only been playing for about 4 months. I spend at least an hour a day to an hour and a half on the pentatonic scales. I hope by working hard and practicing them it will lead to good soloing technique in the future. I hope to play half as well as you do someday. Great jamming.

      Thank you mate, it was an improv take based on Mark Knopfler's playing. It's over the progression C#minor, A sus 2, B major based around chord tone targeting though if that helps :)

      @@jamesfranklandguitar Thanks !! I was able to play your arpegio ;-) and was just missing the chords ! Great tone ! Do you still have the Duesenberg ? I am planning to get one but I am hesitating between the Starplayer special and the Starplayer TV ... thanks anyhow for your answer

      @@RomainG6409 I don't have it any longer im afraid. It was a great guitar though, to my knowledge the biggest differences between the two are the solid/semi hollow construction and the p90/hum in the TV wheras the Special has dual humbuckers

    I'm thinking about getting one. Would you recommend it as an allround guitar?

      They are a versatile guitar yeah, particularly with the pickup split options they can cover a lot of tones

    Hi James, thanks for the review. As you also reviewed the Hagstrom Ultra Max I wonder how you would compare them and if the current price difference is showing up in the guitar (Dusenberg is currently about double the price of the Hagstrom). I am coming from a Fender Strat looking for some Humbucker punch. Thanks Thomas

      Hi Tom, thanks for checking both the videos out. It's difficult to compare them as they do sit in separate brackets price wise but I will say both are great guitars for their respective prices.
      The main construction difference apart from the woods/finish options is the bolt on neck on the Duesenberg.
      I know Hagstrom do a fantomen custom which is closer in price to the duesenberg so it might be worth trying the starplayer and one of those to get a feel for what both companies offer at a similar price point.
      I'd definitely try both if you can as they are different feeling guitars whilst both being longer scale, single cut humbucker guitars. Hope that helps! 🎸

      Hi Tom.
      Maybe I can offer some help if your question is still relevant.
      I do own two Hagstrom Super Swedes: both Tremar versions: one with the two humbuckers, one with the three P90s.
      I also do own the Starplayer Special and a Starplayer Custom.
      The both Hagstroms provide extreme value-for-money. Much more so than the Duesey.
      The Hagstroms HB pups are in the true Gibson Les Paul ballpark. Gritty, Lush, Strong. Rock and Blues Rock territory. The coil split on the Hagstrom makes the pups in the single coil mode too thin for my taste. Good for Nile Rodgers style rhythm funk though.
      The P90s Hagstrom is somewhat more a Jazzy Blues Funk Pop and Soul instrument. Very versatile though from the three Pups Strat style.
      The humbuckers on the Duesey Special are more open, more transparant. Think Gretch I guess and think Telecaster. The Tone coil allow soulfull dark voices and a smoothe transfer in P90 and single coil type tones.
      Build quality wise absolutely comparable. They all join me on band practice and gigs. Hagstrom is a very underrated brand. Duesey quality is brilliant. I love both brands dearly.

      @@MrRFasters many thanks for getting back to me. I now already own a Duesenberg since a few months and very happy with it. Since I came from a Fender Strat the versatility of the Duesey to move between Single Coil and Humbucker sound is absolutely great. I already had really satisfying sessions with it.

    Thanks for the video! Is it also good for high gain stuff and would you say it sounds similar to a les paul?

    • @jamesfranklandguitar
      @jamesfranklandguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say it's probably more geared to the rock side of heavy rather than metal but it can definitely handle a decent amount of gain.
      With it having a longer scale length it sounds like it has a bit more clarity than a les paul but could be darkened with amp EQ or by rolling the tone down

    Great video. One question. Is the difference with the TV model worth the price? I couldn't afford this last one but I,d liked to know. Thanks a lot

    • @jamesfranklandguitar
      @jamesfranklandguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. I haven't played the TV model but the thing that drew me to this one was wanting a solid body over a semi hollow.
      To my knowledge the main differences are the solid/semi hollow construction, neck p90 in the TV model and then the Les Trem system.
