As someone who has a Gretch semi-hollow and was interested in a Duesenberg, I found this helpful. They both sound good, especially for clean worship settings. although I think my gretsch has an amazing clean tone, the Duesenberg is clean but also has more depth to my ear. I also appreciated that you played riffs from actual songs so we could hear it in context.
Nice comparison and thoughtful playing, thanks. In the last 2 years I have bought a Duesenberg Starplayer TV & a Japanese Made Gretsch Duo Jet (a little different set up from yours but similar) and I love them both but I see them as quite different in a lot of ways. I play them in the studio (clean, seldom OD) so have got them to know them pretty well and I tend to go for the Gretsch if I'm writing / playing chordally and often finger-style and the Duesenberg for more riffy / arpeggiated stuff (they come stringed 10 -50, which is a bit heavier than the usual 10 - 46 I have on the Gretsch and my Les Paul). What can I say - both beautiful and grateful to own 2 such amazing instruments! 😀So short answer . . . it's a tie!
I adore the Duesenberg guitar. I purchased the Gran Majesto. Now I am saving funds for the Duesenberg "StarPlayer TV" guitar to record my Gospel Songs in my studio.
I think I slightly preferred the Duesenberg, but they are both phenomenal guitars! Both great on the ears and the eyes. Loved the playing and song selections! Keep on rocking brother!
Thank you very much. This is the kind of music I enjoy the most and that I play, so this review was spot on. Duesenberg for the win, for me. Once again thank you!
As far as the Pepsi challenge, I couldn't tell the guitarist apart. It didn't matter. This gentleman plays so beautifully, I just sat back and listened. Great strumming. So melodic. All that finger tapping and fancy riffs doesn't compare to someone who can play in such a beautiful melodic way.
Ha! I have both of these exact guitars. Have another Sparkle Jet with Dynas but it’s a silver sparkle. They are both great guitars. The Duesy is a little easier to play leads on. I find the frets a little beefier. The Grand Vintage HB is an awesome pup. I’m not as crazy about the Domino P90. It’s a little dark for my taste. I play bothe guitars regularly at church.
Two awesome guitars! Thank you for comparing them. I was a bit stumped by the blind test, because I believed what was guitar 1 and 2 stayed consistent through all 3 comparisons. And the winner is ... the guy who wants at least 2 guitars!
Great demo. Thank you very much! They both sound great. The Gretsch is brighter and a bit thinner, but the famous Gretsch chime is unsurpassed and I easily picked it out in the blind test. The Duesy is equally excellent, but a tiny bit darker in tone with a more full mids and lows. I might buy one of each. :-)
Although both guitars are stunningly beautiful, I believe the sound of the Gretsch is much superior to the Duesenberg. I don't think I'd buy a Duesenberg regardless of how pleasing I like their looks.
Deciding between these two after I get my HSS Strat. This helped so much because I’ll be playing through a Helix and I primarily play P&W. However it also doesn’t help because I still don’t know which one I’d rather have!!! Both sound beautiful.
Great video. As in the case where you take two really beautiful guitars, it's not which one is better but which one you like more. Beautiful strumming by the way. I just started 4 months ago and I hope to learn to play half as well as this gentleman.
I felt that the bridge pick up for starplayer tv is very good in handling heavy rock sound... but i just couldnt work with the middle pick up.. so i sold it lol. Gretsch seem to have a better clean sound in comparison to starplayer tv in the middle position..
On the middle pickup comparison, the Duesy selector appeared to be on the neck, not the middle, position. It's hard to see though. My Duesy sounds quite different on the middle position.
I much preferred the Duesnberg with cleaner tones, but then I preferred the Gretsch with gain tones. Completely opposite of what he decided. But tone is entirely preference. I think overall I prefer the Duesenberg but it's really close!
All of my choices of prefered sounds matched the Gretsch... I don't have a Gretsch but I do have a beautiful Duesenberg StarplayerTV Phonic. of the two guitars on looks and sound I'd purchase the Gretsch but wouldn't swap either for my Starplayer TV Phonic. Good Video
For me still go for Duesenberg, sound is more full and wider. Because i own the duesenberg fullerton TV. Be sure gretsch will great too. Both great guitar!
Both sound amazing! But that's actually because of the player more than the guitarist! I will say though that nothing compares to the Gretsch when it comes to those filtertron pickups. Although the Duesenberg looks pretty similar to a Gretsch and is also a phenomenal guitar, the Gretsch has its own sound! A more appropriate comparison might be a cabronita Telecaster
Would anyone know what that Duo jet is called in terms of it's finish? That is one cool ass looking guitar. Even though I love the blue sparkle on the Duesenberg.
How did you get this middle tone on Duesenberg? O got my Starplayer and the mid position sounds more like a Strat in the second position than a Gretsch. It’s sounding like a out of phase tone My old guitar was a gretsch, so I’m really missing this middle position tone.
You could and imo should have compared with a Duesey with D-Tron pups ... Now you re comparing Gretch filtertrons to a P90 neck and Humbucker bridge pup. And a hollow body compared to a solid one. Thats Apples and Pears Im afraid.
I agree, Gretsch is the winner for me just because it’s own wery “gretschy” characteur. I own a Gretsch and maybe because of that also i was right on your blind test. Duesenberg is not bad for me, but more “generic” sounding guitar with great acoustic vibe appearing in tone. I woul’d appriciate if you can upload HELIX tone that you used to make your great video, that will be interesting how is my Gretsch sounding coparing to yours (5420T with TV Jones Classics) Thank you!
Yea Gretsch still has that bell like tone that is tough to get on other guitars.. I'm in the midat of redoing my patches. Will upload once the time is right. Cheers!
Guitar Emerge I won’t argue that. I’m not against foreign made guitars at all. (I think Japan are second to none) I just think there’s some deception with Duesenberg guitars and where/how they’re built. I do like the way they sound though.
@@GuitarEmerge Thank you for that information! I love my Duesenbergs, They are really versatile with tone! However, I really like the clarity and smoothness that Gretsch has and I didn't realize how much hotter the Duesenberg pickups are wired than the Gretsch until this video. Thanks again!
@@GuitarEmerge So Stoked! I just found out that there is a G6129T-PE with the same top, pickups and Bigsby being released! I just pre-ordered it! Thanks to your video here I would have never known how awesome the clean tones are with the Gretsch.
Could you please put the guitar in tune first. Unfortunately I heard a lot people that they can play nicely, knowing how to use effects, softwares........ Question; what happened to the basic knowledge how to tune the guitar?

The difference is in the pickups, the duesenberg has pickups with a wider frequency range (more harmonic content) but the duo jet is smoother.
This Comment is right. Couldn’t agree more 😊
Its the Duesenberg Starplayer TV everytime for me, its tone depth and quality is undeniable, just looking to buy for worship.
Nice comparison and thoughtful playing, thanks. They both sound really nice, but I just thought the Duesenberg had the edge. It was just more crisp and clean and cut a little bit better

Thanks bro! U won't go wrong with eithee guitars hehe
Love this comparison man. Just bought a 58 white Penguin reissue and this made me super excited to get it in!
Thank you very much. This is the kind of music I enjoy the most and that I play, so this review was spot on. Duesenberg for the win, for me. Once again thank you!
What a beautiful guitar collection by the way. I love to see people do demonstrations who you can tell have a sincere passion for guitars.
Ese si es el verdadero sonido worship brother, para mi es una gran bendicion mirar esos reviews con musica cristiana, Bendiciones desde Mexico City!!
Makes me so excited now to get my Duesy Star Player Steamline, thanks a lot for showing the real comparison between the two, hats off to you!
Very welcome. Both are great guitars! Can't go wrong with either. :) enjoy

Owning a Duesenberg I’m very bias. I’d like to put my paws on a Duo Jet because of this video. Great demo!
Thnaks both are great guitars
gretch smooth and bassy ... duesenberg bright tone and clarity
for me Gretch 💯

Fabulous comparison. Love both, but the Gretsch Jet with Dynasonic single coils is truly a heavenly sound.
Good ears mate!
I bought them both and I love each of them
@@kenherbst9460 Cool, thanks for letting me know. :-)
For me Duesenberg all the way. Thanks for the comparison, it's help me alot. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This inspired me to change the middle position wiring on my Starplayer. So much better than stock wiring.
Yea we prefer it that way too :)
What is that wiring? Highly interested it
How to change the wiring? I just got my starplayer and I’m suffering with that middle tone. Sounds so bad.
Thank you for this comparison vid. I just bought the Duesenberg with confidence it's right for me.
Dusenberg hands down. The pickups have greater clarity.
Although both guitars are stunningly beautiful, I believe the sound of the Gretsch is much superior to the Duesenberg. I don't think I'd buy a Duesenberg regardless of how pleasing I like their looks.
Another really good one, very impressed with both tones and great playing btw.
Thanks for ur constant support haha! Do help me share around :) Cheers!
both winners!! Great sounds and playing.
Yea agree, both beautiful sounding guitars! Thanks for the encouragement! Cheers!
This is an awesome comparison! Loved the video!

Opps did we made it more confusing haha! Wont go wrong with either :)
Thanks, good review, Duesenberg sound is better for me, God bless!!!
Welcome bro! Both great guitars. Comes down to preference :) God Bless!
Duesy easily. For me a duesy semi and a gretsh hollow with filtetrons is an amazing guitar duo to have

Gretsch seem to have a better clean sound in comparison to starplayer tv in the middle position..
Haha me too thus I rewired the middle of the dues to be like a traditional neck + bridge tone!
did you find any difference ?
Good stuff, both guitar sound good in their own right.
On the middle pickup comparison, the Duesy selector appeared to be on the neck, not the middle, position. It's hard to see though. My Duesy sounds quite different on the middle position.
I actually mod the dues middle position to the usual neck plus bridge combi. Thats the reason why it sounded diff from yours. Cheers!
@@GuitarEmerge thank you for the reply. Great demo and comparison. Love the playing. I may look in to a similar mod.
Great job
Thank you for a great review of two great guitars
Very welcome :)
I've been playing my Duesey Starplayer for over 7 years so I'm way partial!
It's a great guitar
Doozy for the win. From looks to its killer tone 😎
Thank you for this vid bro!
Beautiful demo/comparison
A Worship Guitarist who make a Gretsch Duesenberg comparison. I love it❤
Yeah helpful video. Gretschs very hot and unique, Duesens clarity is amazing.
Both great guitars!
I much preferred the Duesnberg with cleaner tones, but then I preferred the Gretsch with gain tones. Completely opposite of what he decided. But tone is entirely preference. I think overall I prefer the Duesenberg but it's really close!
I owned a gretsch but I like the tone of the Dues,

Sufjan yea? Beautiful!
The finish on that gretsch is beautiful 😍
Love the finish too!
Thank you.
Is the Duesy Domino P90 noisy?
I was thinking of selling my duo jet and buying a used duesenberg. From the blind tests I think I’ve decided to keep my gretsch.
I much prefer the gretsch on the bridge pickup
Oh wow- the Duesy easily!
That gretsch sounding goooddd and look good as well. But i miss that duesy. Cheers
Hey how have u been bro!!!

Could you please share the patch you're using for the Helix? It sounds great!
We have some patches in our store. Can't recall which one we were using already :)

Thanks for this great video.
which one feels better?
In the blind test I picked the Duesenberg every time
Nice choice :)
Would anyone know what that Duo jet is called in terms of it's finish? That is one cool ass looking guitar. Even though I love the blue sparkle on the Duesenberg.
Light blue pearl finish
which amp are you using for this text? please...,
Back then I was using Fender Deluxe into IR (Vox) in the Helix.
Great channel. Great topics.
Thanks!
That gretsch looks amazing. What is the name of that color/finish ?
Both guitars sounded great.
It's light blue pearl finish :)
Duesenberg hands down!
Bridge pickup gretsch beautiful.tone best.deusenberg no high frequency and middle frequency more.i love gretsch
Great job!!!! Very, very good. Do you play worship music? Where do you play?
Hey Joshua, thanks for the encouragement! Yes I play worship music in Singapore! I'm a guitar trainer as well. :) God bless!
Whatever Gretsch do, Deusenberg does better 😌
Would you mind sharing your Helix presets?
You can get the patches from our store. Thanks!

What amp and cab are you running on your helix?
I was using Fender Deluxe into IR (Vox)
I just subscribed and turned on the notifications.... Godbless!
Thanks bro!
Both are definitely great. The Duesenberg pick ups can just handle more and the Gretsch can’t. Pretty simple and easy to hear the clarity.
How did you get this middle tone on Duesenberg? O got my Starplayer and the mid position sounds more like a Strat in the second position than a Gretsch. It’s sounding like a out of phase tone
My old guitar was a gretsch, so I’m really missing this middle position tone.
Basically rewired the middle to the standard Neck + Bridge wiring
How you made it?
You could and imo should have compared with a Duesey with D-Tron pups ... Now you re comparing Gretch filtertrons to a P90 neck and Humbucker bridge pup. And a hollow body compared to a solid one. Thats Apples and Pears Im afraid.
Actually both are semi-hollow. The Gretsch looks like a solid body, but it’s been hollowed out.
I think the Gretsch has power and also I don't like the almost scam over a supossedly "german" made guitar when it is not made there.
What amp did you use?
1:47
Could you compare the Starplayer to a Vox Virage SC... ??
how did you get such a good "cloud" verb out of the helix? can you show how
Would like to know also!
If you listen to the third test it sounds like guitar 2 is just intonated better then the first guitar.
Both great. Duo jet!
Nice!

thank you !! gretsch duo jet waouhhhhh ,° ) .......!
Duesenberg is assembled in Germany from parts made in Korea. It's not a German made guitar. NO reason they should cost what they do.
However they do sound good :)

Both guitar are amazing but Gretsch for me. .
A little unfair. It seems you have the duesy dialed in and the Gretsch to the same settings the duesy has.
Gretsch Duo Jet +
Gretsch is more precised and brilliant düesenberg is warm and matt
Great Comparison! What year and top finish is the Duo Jet?
Thanks bro! Year 2013 discontinued. Model G6129TL.

Night and day. The Gretsch sounds muffled next to the deusy.
For me the Duesenberg "tone" has more integrity. Wish there was a Santa Claus.
Gretsch by a long mile! And that one don't even have TV Jones, it will be galaxy away better
Dusenberg No Question!!!!!!!!!
Gretsch sounds more “rocky”. The Deusenberg sounds more ethereal.
Sounds like the duesenberg has hotter pups

Hillsong XD
I believe that Gretsch sound is not for all people... i dont know why but to me is a horrible sound...
Duesenbergs are overpriced Reverends. Prove me wrong.
