DIY BARREL FISH POND

- I decided to make a video out of this project because I was very excited to make it and watch the whole process. I want to add that I’m not a professional fish keeper or wood worker or anything. I just enjoy fish and was really excited by the idea of making this.

No need to use any type of sealant with a whiskey barrel. ALL whiskey barrels are 100% waterproof after about 24-48hrs of being filled with water. Once filled with water the wood expands and will NEVER leak again. Also the fish ABSOLUTELY need some type of shade in the form of plants or any type of cover really.. Otherwise they will just bake in the sun!

I use a whiskey barrel as an ice bath and after recently moving its location by way of rolling the barrel on its side there are now visible gaps between every piece of wood. I bought marine sealant but i would prefer not to use this if its not neccesary. I will test out your theory 1st and get back to you. Youd better be right😂
The sealant is likely to keep any of the whiskey residue that has been absorbed by the wood to get into the water, as that can be harmful for fish. That's why generally people use fish sage pond liners inside whiskey or wine barrels when making a fish pond
Hi Jake, nice idea. You need to give those fish something that will give them a bit of shade though - a fake water lily or something like that.

Wooden staves expand when filled....mines water tight.

That's okay. It smelt like wine anyways so the coat I used in the interior will prevent water contamination:)
Dont barrel hold liquid. Why all the sanding and silicone

Wow perhaps you should have looked at some YT vids on setting up a barrel pond, or perhaps you were going for a Barren pond with all those un necessary chemically infused products. still a good try and like you said you are not an expert so we all have to learn
