After watching season 2 and rewatching season 1, the scene where Kipo calms down the mega monkey hit hard. You realize the monkey stopped cause she recognized the song her husband use to play and then see her put two and two together that it's her daughter singing to her. No show is perfect but you can feel the love that has gone into this show!
This might sound like a lie or a weird brag, but I study tv so hard that the first time I watched season one and the mega monkey scene happened I turned to my partner and said "the mega monkey is kipos mom. Theres no reason they'd use the same song her father specifically sang earlier that he used to calm her mom down with. The monkey is the mom" and so they called me crazy. To be fair the rest of my theory was that scarlemagne had made her into a megamonkey as part of his plan... so I was wrong there...
I also like how Scarlemagne/Hugo's pheromones are not effective on Kipo. It might look like something justto not make every fight between her and him inexsistent, but I think it has a deeper meaning. It forces him to trust her. He can't just, sprit his pheromons on her and see if she's telling the truth, he has to see if she's genuine, he have to believe she's telling the truth and the most beautiful part is that...he doesn't. He can't trust her, or at least that's what he thinks, until her action spaks for her, and he understands

The creators took too much effort to *carefully* let us know (*without*, mind, any "as you know, Daves") that the apocalypse was two-hundred years ago (1st episode, season 1) and that Dave was two-hundred years old (last episode, season 1). It's gotta mean something.
let's just hope we learn more about both Benson and Dave in season 3. We learned about Wolf in season 1, we learned about Kipo in season 2, we should learn about Benson and Dave in season 3.

I'm calling it now. By the end of Season 3, Dr. Emilia will use at least one of the mega mute genes from Kipo's parents when she starts losing and say: "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."
DEFINITELY have been thinking this is a strong possibility. Would develop her character and position her as a higher-stakes antagonist for the end of the show as well.
The whole twist with Song being the mega monkey was something I thought was pretty obvious from season 1, so I was spending a good chunk of the show waiting for it to drop - although I was briefly thrown for a loop a couple times - but I wouldn't say that this was a problem at all. Kipo (the show) is a great lesson in how good twists aren't really all about the "gotcha" of not being able to predict what's gonna happen next (something Game of Thrones apparently fell prey to from what I've heard/seen) but in how these revelations affect the characters' lives and bring the story forward in compelling ways, and even providing additional weight to previous interactions. Heck, on the flipside, I didn't predict Scarlemagne's backstory AT ALL, but it doesn't feel like a lame ass-pull because it deepens and complicates everything we know about this family already.

the character writing in this show are truly one of its best qualities (i mean its all amazing but especially the characters) the writing feels natural none of their interactions feel forced or out of character, kipo has a unique dynamic with all the characters they bounce off each other so well it just feels so human, the writers who worked on kipo really knew what they were doing
When i first read the title "Simpathy for the mandrill" i literally said: "Are they really going to make me feel sad for a sociopath monkey that's trying to take over the world and kill humanity?" They did The character writting in this show is just amazing
I think Emilia sent Monkey Mom after the burrows to force the people out of them. And who would be the most receptive to being convinced all mutes are bad and need to be "fixed"? A bunch of people who lost their homes and were just almost squished by a giant mute.
I love that you also analyzed the underlying theme of adoption between Kipo and Scarlemagne. I feel like no one really talks about it. But I also really like that Scarlemagne only really blamed Leo for abandoning him rather than also blaming Kipo for taking his spot in the family.
I just happy to see people talk about this show.I legitimately love it. It bothers me that the fans of the show are scattered and really met outside comment sections of the reviews. You don,t khow how hard it to suppress the urge to recommend the show.
I wouldn't doubt that the reason why Dr. Emilia sent the mega monkey to destroy the burrow was so that she could get her hands on Kipo. It's not a coincidence that the monkey didn't grab any of the humans, and that Kipo was the only one who escaped early....and since Lio knew who sent her and why.....that makes my theory even stronger. Kipo would not only be the ultimate weapon, but the ultimate experiment to help Dr. Emilia destroy mutes for good.
Honestly, I felt as sad at the destruction Wolf's stalk as I did for some major character deaths from other shows. She just seemed so devastated by it, it really hurt. :(
I love the themes that this series explores. What makes identity? How do our experiences shape how we see the world? When who you thought you turned out not to be real....what do you do? How can our friends help us navigate confusing and difficult experiences? How can we be a good friend to someone who has experienced trauma, is injured, or is afraid to be vulnerable? How do we hold authority figures accountable for abuses of their power? All salient things for everyone to discuss, but particularly for young people in a world that continue to change and grow and shift and become.
This show is incredibly good, I love the story and the art style. In season 3, I would love to see more backstory for the other main characters. This is a wonderful video!!
Kipo's reaction to finding out about her being a literal living science experiment is one of my favorite moments of the show. I was completely ready for your typical boring "boohoo you never told me about this, I will hate you for like 2 episodes but then you will save my best friend's life and we will have a moment when we lock eyes and then everything will be okay again". The show's unpredictability makes it really worthwhile to watch imo.
Same. I thought Kipo would become distraught or angry that her parents experimented on her dna. But thanks to her open-mindedness she was able to see that it was all to protect her and bring humans and mutes together.
I really like that Kipo is fine with her parents engineering her to give her a better life, because we are just decades away from allot of kids growing up with movies and shows that make them out to be monsters because their parents didn't want them dying of cancer and such,
I think it is a pretty normal reaction from a 12 year old, but i still hope the show it self will adress the ethical questions that it brings and not just brush it off as a "cool thing" like Kipo.... because it's still eugenics
I'm still going through season two as slowly as possible so I don't run out of episodes too soon, but I REALLY love that even with Kipo's super strength her main power that saves the day is her relentless belief there is good in others and her endless attempts to bring out the good in even the most lost causes.
If I remember correctly, it was smashed against the table Angle. That hits in a complete ly different ways than the other times it hit something in the show. Plus Emilia is a Grown adult so it's likely she has more strenght than Wolf

This season was pretty crazy! After it added more to s1’s plot, If you went back to the previous season, you can’t look at s1 the same way. It’s a great effect. And as you said, We got spoiled silly :)
I think the "In for 4, out for 8" actually is very useful and I managed my anxiety slightly better when I remembered to breathe properly though what Kipo said :')
I will say, though, I wish more TV/movies could have like a separate audio track that tones down EXTREMELY LOUD sound effects. Even with lower volume, some sounds in Kipo (explosions, slamming) give me a friggin' heart attack! It's not so bad on broadcast television where the sound is compressed and evened out, but on streaming, I find that SFX in modern cartoons are practically like horror movie jump scares now.
I think that's just everything on Netflix tbh.... gotta have the volume at 25 so you can hear speaking but the second a car starts or a gun goes off? say goodbye to your eardrums...
I watched the 1st 2 episodes and was like, nah this is too weird. After like 3 months I see the clip where she turns into the Jaguar and was like "Where did this come from." I went back to where I left off and fell in love with the Timbercats and regretted not watching just a little bit more and now I cannot wait for season 3.

I may be quite late to the party but I'm very grateful to find Kipo and it puts me in utter awe that such pieces of media can come out in times like this. I have never felt like this ever since I watched ATLA (Avatar the Last Airbender). I could go on and on about how much I adore both series along with some of their parallels you mention in your first analysis but I'll leave this here. Also this was an amazing video!
I loved this season but I'm gonna be honest. Benson is a bit under characterized and needs more development time of which I hope we get in season 3 and dave is a bit of a plot device that needs some more individual characterization to feel like a proper supporting character and not just this thing that spouts inconsistently funny jokes and is a plot device to make the story more of a struggle or to save the heroes when necessary. If those two things are fixed in season 3 and the proper arcs go down the paths I think they're going this could easily be one of the best shows ever.
I think we'll have that. I think that most likly Benson's date with Troy will be a way to explore his past and maybe even Dave's, wich also got a little more characterized in season 2, so maybe he will b a complete caharcter in season 3

I really loved this season! The themes and plot twists were really something else! My one and only complaint is that Jamack appears in only one episode ;; This frog my favorite, I hope he will get a bigger role in season 3
I love this show so much! I'm worried about season 3 being the final season because the loose threads are getting tied yet it's all so good. If the show can keep going then I'd watch it all for sure! Have you noticed that the 6th episodes in both seasons have a unique twist? Think about it: Season 1 - Benson reveals himself to be gay. Season 2 - The Mega Monkey is Kipo's mother. What twist will episode 6 give us in season 3?
Interesting! I actually think that isn’t the big twist in that Season 1 episode since they talk about it and it’s all handled fairly casually. But that is also the same episode when it becomes clear Kipo must be part-Mute. So to me it seems like Episode 6 is the “this character is a Mute” twist!
(Spoiler)-Just as I thought that Scarlamagne was going to change, he goes and TURNS THE FROGS INTO GOLD. I mean, they were pretty bitchy, but they were just trying to live
I started watching this show today on a whim while I was scrolling through Netflix, and it's quickly become one of my favourites. But one of the things that makes me like it so much is a really tiny little detail. I love the title card music so much, because it just fits the whole theme of discovery and wonder that runs through the show. Like I said, a tiny detail, but one that really makes it for me.
It's iconic and that's such a great point that it captures the feeling of discovery. It's a wholly new vibe that doesn't sound quite like anything else.
It is a small detail, but one that I really enjoy which is that the deathstalkers morn the death of their own. It gave me the ability to connect to giant scorpion monsters emotionally and I think that is pretty neat.
Also the other beautiful thing about that Boardgame being played in Episode 9, and really just the pure genius of this show. Is that it foreshadows the climactic conclusion of the final epsiode. Scarlamagne is boasting his conquering of the game as the new King through his brute force, by sacrificing his army (about to cast his entire mute kingdom in gold to stop Kipo) to burn down her corn fields (gas all the humans in her community) Kipo snuck in to his farm and started a revolt with the farmers(utilizing Mullholand on her mother mega monkey and his brain control pheramones and ultimately swaying some of the other mute gangs to not support Scalamaigne's ascendancy). This show just has so much forethought in everything it portrays and truly is a masterful piece of animation.
I got to admit, Kipo singing a song to a megamonkey, my first thought is it's unique and wholesome. That seemed special, even before revealed to be Kipo's mom. Kipo freeing the megamonkey (Song), seemed amazing. My first thought of that is her pure personality is pure maturity and warm innocence, and she's gentle due to hurt caused from forced slavery. Now Kipo and Hugo as Scarlamagne... Their first meeting (Baby Kipo doesn't count as she doesn't remember him) started rough, then gentle as she now knows he's her brother who deserves Kipo's love, even if he has abandonment issues and emotionally unstable. I wish the coronation being set in a later date and bond more often as Kipo's bond with him is helping, even if it's just a bit.
Honestly I'm glad that they didn't redeem Scarlemagne. After the trainwreck of Steven Universe season 5 and future, we really needed a scenario where the hero tries heir best but won't reach through. Scarlemagne has a tragic backstory and understandable trust issues. It was sweet to see how Kipo tried to make up for her father’s mistakes and he didn't blame her for his past. But in the end he was a lost cause and Kipo had to accept that there are people who won't listen to kind words
Kipo surely is amazing, and I just started watching she ra only to realize that glimmer has the same voice actor. Glimmer and kipo almost have the same personality too. The voice actor is awesome and both glimmer and kipo emit this vibe that gets you excited. Love both the shows.

I truly absolutely loved this season of kipo! Honestly the only thing I /really/ want from the next season is Benson's backstory as we haven't really had even a hint on what it is. Other than that, I'm just excited too see and speculate on what's ahead for season 3
Initially, I didn’t really care for Kipo. After watching some of the more complex, emotionally intense cartoons, this cartoon felt lacking. But it kept me engaged and grew to enjoy it for what it is. The soundtrack is great and I love the representation, which is long overdue. And I can appreciate that this show deals with the themes of empathy, cooperation, and optimism in a way that is digestible for a young demographic. I still gravitate towards the darker, uncomfortable cartoons, and ones with elaborate mythology, but there’s space for lighter cartoons that don’t require therapy sessions after each episode lol. I could truly binge watch the this feel-good show.
there's also the underrated foreshadowing you don't even know is there: the fact that we learned Kipo is immune to Scarlemagne's pheromones because she's a megamute, and yet we don't put it together that the mega monkey was being controlled with the pheromones until it's revealed that she's not all mega; the fact that we see every other megamute have multiple limbs (not just a single pair of arms and legs) but Jaguar Kipo doesn't, and then we see her transform into the ACTUAL mega jaguar. there's probably more that I missed, but they're so good looking back on it.
what if doctor amelia is based off of GLaDOS fron the portal games? they both experiment on innocent beings, work underground, and try to kill their greatest ally.
Theory: mullholand is controlling scarlemagnes mind so he can be the king in disguise. The ultimate minipulator but he was caught and now scarlemagnes confused in jail with no idea how he got there
ok so, I have a theory, or something I would like to see. What if wolf for a couple episodes thinks that she is in love with Kipo? This doesn't go trough, but I think it would be an interesting prospective. She could think she loves Kipo because she fels an attraction she never felt before, not knowing it's just true frienship, wich I think is something that she never experienced. Since she started opening a bit more, I think she would discuss the thing with Benson, maybe giving us a bit of his backstory, and maybe even having a heart to hert within the two. I think that they could have a relationship like Sokka and Toph ( I only saw A:TLA so plese don't spoil TLOK), kinda like a brother/sister relationship. In the end, Wolf tells Kipo, and Kipo tells her that she is straight. They talk about their feelings for each other and they come to know that ist's just friendship, but Wolf comes to the conclusion that maybe talking about her feelings made her feel bettr, and she starts a journey with a more in depth exploration of her feeling ìs and how to open up, wich ends in her telling her story, and receving the support of the group. thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Twists are something you should use primarily to enrich the story, and if they happen to be unexpected, that's good too. Not the other way around.
It was not obvious AT ALL for me lol, it caught me completely 100% by surprise. And I’m glad it did, it was such a great moment for me lol

If I remember correctly, it was smashed against the table Angle. That hits in a complete ly different ways than the other times it hit something in the show. Plus Emilia is a Grown adult so it's likely she has more strenght than Wolf
@@mimikyulover3411 Don't even need to assume her strength- in the ensuing fight when they clash we're literally shown that Emilia is at least just as strong as Wolf :) And also more ruthless and calculating.
This season was pretty crazy! After it added more to s1’s plot, If you went back to the previous season, you can’t look at s1 the same way. It’s a great effect. And as you said, We got spoiled silly :)

I will say, though, I wish more TV/movies could have like a separate audio track that tones down EXTREMELY LOUD sound effects. Even with lower volume, some sounds in Kipo (explosions, slamming) give me a friggin' heart attack! It's not so bad on broadcast television where the sound is compressed and evened out, but on streaming, I find that SFX in modern cartoons are practically like horror movie jump scares now.
I think that's just everything on Netflix tbh.... gotta have the volume at 25 so you can hear speaking but the second a car starts or a gun goes off? say goodbye to your eardrums...
I watched the 1st 2 episodes and was like, nah this is too weird. After like 3 months I see the clip where she turns into the Jaguar and was like "Where did this come from." I went back to where I left off and fell in love with the Timbercats and regretted not watching just a little bit more and now I cannot wait for season 3.

I may be quite late to the party but I'm very grateful to find Kipo and it puts me in utter awe that such pieces of media can come out in times like this. I have never felt like this ever since I watched ATLA (Avatar the Last Airbender). I could go on and on about how much I adore both series along with some of their parallels you mention in your first analysis but I'll leave this here. Also this was an amazing video!

My mind was blown away with this season.
I loved this season but I'm gonna be honest. Benson is a bit under characterized and needs more development time of which I hope we get in season 3 and dave is a bit of a plot device that needs some more individual characterization to feel like a proper supporting character and not just this thing that spouts inconsistently funny jokes and is a plot device to make the story more of a struggle or to save the heroes when necessary. If those two things are fixed in season 3 and the proper arcs go down the paths I think they're going this could easily be one of the best shows ever.
I think we'll have that. I think that most likly Benson's date with Troy will be a way to explore his past and maybe even Dave's, wich also got a little more characterized in season 2, so maybe he will b a complete caharcter in season 3

Have you noticed that the 6th episodes in both seasons have a unique twist? Think about it:
Season 1 - Benson reveals himself to be gay.
Season 2 - The Mega Monkey is Kipo's mother.
What twist will episode 6 give us in season 3?
Interesting! I actually think that isn’t the big twist in that Season 1 episode since they talk about it and it’s all handled fairly casually. But that is also the same episode when it becomes clear Kipo must be part-Mute. So to me it seems like Episode 6 is the “this character is a Mute” twist!

Your kipo reviews is the greatest trylogy of all time
I started watching this show today on a whim while I was scrolling through Netflix, and it's quickly become one of my favourites. But one of the things that makes me like it so much is a really tiny little detail. I love the title card music so much, because it just fits the whole theme of discovery and wonder that runs through the show.
Like I said, a tiny detail, but one that really makes it for me.
It's iconic and that's such a great point that it captures the feeling of discovery. It's a wholly new vibe that doesn't sound quite like anything else.
It is a small detail, but one that I really enjoy which is that the deathstalkers morn the death of their own. It gave me the ability to connect to giant scorpion monsters emotionally and I think that is pretty neat.
The otters are adorable so are the timber cats

Also the other beautiful thing about that Boardgame being played in Episode 9, and really just the pure genius of this show. Is that it foreshadows the climactic conclusion of the final epsiode. Scarlamagne is boasting his conquering of the game as the new King through his brute force, by sacrificing his army (about to cast his entire mute kingdom in gold to stop Kipo) to burn down her corn fields (gas all the humans in her community) Kipo snuck in to his farm and started a revolt with the farmers(utilizing Mullholand on her mother mega monkey and his brain control pheramones and ultimately swaying some of the other mute gangs to not support Scalamaigne's ascendancy). This show just has so much forethought in everything it portrays and truly is a masterful piece of animation.

I got to admit, Kipo singing a song to a megamonkey, my first thought is it's unique and wholesome. That seemed special, even before revealed to be Kipo's mom. Kipo freeing the megamonkey (Song), seemed amazing. My first thought of that is her pure personality is pure maturity and warm innocence, and she's gentle due to hurt caused from forced slavery.
Now Kipo and Hugo as Scarlamagne... Their first meeting (Baby Kipo doesn't count as she doesn't remember him) started rough, then gentle as she now knows he's her brother who deserves Kipo's love, even if he has abandonment issues and emotionally unstable. I wish the coronation being set in a later date and bond more often as Kipo's bond with him is helping, even if it's just a bit.

Honestly I'm glad that they didn't redeem Scarlemagne. After the trainwreck of Steven Universe season 5 and future, we really needed a scenario where the hero tries heir best but won't reach through. Scarlemagne has a tragic backstory and understandable trust issues. It was sweet to see how Kipo tried to make up for her father’s mistakes and he didn't blame her for his past. But in the end he was a lost cause and Kipo had to accept that there are people who won't listen to kind words
Well at least he managed to redeem himself in a pretty heartbreaking way 💔 💔😭😭
I mostly want a full scale battle between Mulholland and Fun Gus. Though it probably won’t happen.
Kipo surely is amazing, and I just started watching she ra only to realize that glimmer has the same voice actor. Glimmer and kipo almost have the same personality too. The voice actor is awesome and both glimmer and kipo emit this vibe that gets you excited. Love both the shows.

I truly absolutely loved this season of kipo! Honestly the only thing I /really/ want from the next season is Benson's backstory as we haven't really had even a hint on what it is. Other than that, I'm just excited too see and speculate on what's ahead for season 3

What I love is that they don't make the prejudice run one way. Both sides have good and bad and both sides have things they need to work on.
Initially, I didn’t really care for Kipo. After watching some of the more complex, emotionally intense cartoons, this cartoon felt lacking. But it kept me engaged and grew to enjoy it for what it is.
The soundtrack is great and I love the representation, which is long overdue. And I can appreciate that this show deals with the themes of empathy, cooperation, and optimism in a way that is digestible for a young demographic.
I still gravitate towards the darker, uncomfortable cartoons, and ones with elaborate mythology, but there’s space for lighter cartoons that don’t require therapy sessions after each episode lol. I could truly binge watch the this feel-good show.
there's also the underrated foreshadowing you don't even know is there: the fact that we learned Kipo is immune to Scarlemagne's pheromones because she's a megamute, and yet we don't put it together that the mega monkey was being controlled with the pheromones until it's revealed that she's not all mega; the fact that we see every other megamute have multiple limbs (not just a single pair of arms and legs) but Jaguar Kipo doesn't, and then we see her transform into the ACTUAL mega jaguar. there's probably more that I missed, but they're so good looking back on it.

ok so, I have a theory, or something I would like to see.
What if wolf for a couple episodes thinks that she is in love with Kipo? This doesn't go trough, but I think it would be an interesting prospective. She could think she loves Kipo because she fels an attraction she never felt before, not knowing it's just true frienship, wich I think is something that she never experienced. Since she started opening a bit more, I think she would discuss the thing with Benson, maybe giving us a bit of his backstory, and maybe even having a heart to hert within the two. I think that they could have a relationship like Sokka and Toph ( I only saw A:TLA so plese don't spoil TLOK), kinda like a brother/sister relationship. In the end, Wolf tells Kipo, and Kipo tells her that she is straight. They talk about their feelings for each other and they come to know that ist's just friendship, but Wolf comes to the conclusion that maybe talking about her feelings made her feel bettr, and she starts a journey with a more in depth exploration of her feeling ìs and how to open up, wich ends in her telling her story, and receving the support of the group.
