The crazy thing about the defensive rating is that it got better because the Spurs stopped restricting Wemby's minutes. I mean that first month or two I think he was averaging twenty to twenty five minutes a game. I mean the strategy worked but it really capped what he could do. Then there was the great experiment that cost the team 15 to 20 games. Honestly that team should have won probably five to ten more games. It was frustrating, but fun. I could definitely see them repeat how they started last season with a couple of big surprising wins, but this time I don't think they will collapse.
VW-Sochan-Castle-Vassell-CP3 is a defense lockdown team with enough offense to turn those 20 games they lost while leading in the 4Q into wins. 45+ wins this year and a play-in seed.
The problem is that the West is still stacked. They'll be lucky to get 40 wins and make the play-in. And they are a 1-trick pony - if Wembanyama gets a significant injury the entire season is over.

The Spurs will be getting a lot of buckets this year because Vassell and Barnes are likely to get a lot of open looks due to probable double teaming on Wemby. V. is a 37% 3P shooter and so is CP3. Barnes has a 39% 3P average. Plus their defense is likely to generate a good number of transition bskets with Wemby racing down the court. This means the opposition will need to score a lot of buckets or suffer defeat. After seeing this video, it's clear that the Spurs are about to shock the league. It could be a historic season, leaving everyone's mouths gaping in disbelieve.

I've always maintained that the Pippen, Rodman, Jordan, Harper Bulls were the best defensive team ever. I thought the Pat Bev, PG, Kawhi Clippers might get there. If the Spurs can pair up Flagg, Harper, or another defensive stalwart, maybe they'll challenge those Bulls teams.
There’s 6/7 players that on that level in that draft. Aj dybantsa is certainly as good of a fit as Flagg or his teammate (not familiar with his name but his teammate is projected #2)

If he, alongside the greatest coach in history, can teach these skills to the young players in San Antonio, they're going to start looking like the Spurs of 10 years ago. Teams can finally breathe, offensively, without the threat of Victor on the floor so they always turn it up.
