    New to your channel. Out of all the fishing youtubers I have to say...your channel is the best to me. I have recently went to fishing jigs to step up my fishing. I'm not a tournament fisherman and probably never will, it's just not my thing. I have learned so much from watching your past video's about jig fishing. I have also picked up some other tips on different lures and worm fishing from your past video's.

    Living on a lake in northern MN I fish A LOT in the summer. I try about everything out there for both smallies and largies. The classic bass jig is one lure that I have very little confidence in. I've thrown it a lot and really not had any great days using them. I know it is a popular technique and I suspect it is a detail I'm probably not realizing but it is a low performer in my boat.

    Good video, couldn’t have said it better. A Jig is a nice compact tool everyone should have. So many sizes, shapes of heads, hook gauges, colors to choose from. There’s alot of modifications you can do to the jig itself and trailers that make a big difference as well. Trimming the skirt like mention, trimming weed guard, type of trailer, action of trailer, dying the trailer, etc. Once you get dialed in on all that depending on forage, time of year, water clarity, location, cover/structure etc its lights out.

    Love your videos!!! You brought something out that I haven’t thought about. Fall rate of jigs. Do you have a video explaining when to use a heavier jig or know when to switch to one? Also, I see you have a purple craw with blue flake as a trailer. When and where would you throw that? What about sapphire blue craw? Would you fish a swinging football head jig like a jig? Again, love your videos! Thought I’d throw out all my questions I had throughout the week before I forgot them. Lol 😂

    Great stuff. I have a box of jigs all jumbled together and I have no idea what I am throwing most of the time. My next project: building a jig box with labels! Also need to throw them more. Not sure why I’ve gotten away from jigs. My first really big bass was on a bitsy flip jig in a lake I had never caught any biguns before. Jigs catch big bass!!

      Call me crazy, but I absolutely LOVE pitching and flipping with spinning gear!!! I am new to baitcasters, only used them for two years, and I sure seem to get a lot of line overruns and then backlash trying to flip and pitch with my baitcasters. I know I'm the odd ball here, but I honestly still use my Medium Heavy spinning rod and 4000 size spinning reel to flip and pitch.

      Great question. I love to flip with both spinning and casting. When I’m using my spinning gear, I use my index finger to “feather” the line. Cpt. Chris Myers has an old video, “how to cast a spinning reel to catch more fish.” That goes in to the details.

    Hey Tyler, I’m from the Midwest too. When do I switch from a bladed jig to a regular jig? What defines when I use which?

    • @decklanburkhart8113
      @decklanburkhart8113 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bladed jig is great when the water is dirty (compared to how it normally is in that body of water) also when the fish are really keying into reaction style baits a chatterbait is phenomenal. I always find that covering water im either throwing a chatterbait or a swimjig (regular jig with a swimbait trailer will also work). Chatterbait when water is dirty or really cloudy day. Swimjig any other time. Best thing about a swimjig is you can use it as a regular jig as well, pitch it into cover and let it sink a hop it back or you can swim it by a slow constant reel

    Tyler, great vid. You mentioned that "peck, peck, peck" that often happens. What is actually going on when that occurs? I picture the bass down there kissing the bait, but I suspect that's not it at all.

    I have caught EXACTLY ONE BASS on a jig my while life..something I need to fix..I need to do what some pros suggest..Go out fishing and take one or two lures ONLY... Teach yourself to fish it, and learn it's nuances...I hate doing that because I HATE getting skunked..Maybe I'll go out with just jigs, and try em in all situations and cover types... and using different weight sizes and trailers...
    I LOVE the "meat scale" reference...sadly I have actually done that!😊😋

      On your cast let the jig settle a little longer than soft plastics. Watch your line in case he grabbed it on the fall ( that's the tough bite to feel). Then give the jig a little giggle. Still no bite hop it about 6" off the bottom. Sometimes a drag is better, usually if it is cold. Reel in repeat. I hope it helps, good luck!

    Why haven’t they been putting the weight on them from the beginning? That would definitely help keep the tackle organized. It’s hard to tell the difference between a 5/8 an 1/2 oz. Even a 3/8 to a 1/2 oz can be hard to tell They should mark crank baits depth range. That would be great
