I'll be dead honest, I refuse to go to my highschool reunion when it rolls around. I got bullied and belittled a lot. Middle school was even worse. Long story short, I'm not going to waste time with people I never liked. The people who actually matter are people I'm still in contact with and hang out with occasionally.

My dad had his 50th a few years ago. He told me before that his class wasn't big on reunions and was surprised that he got the invite. He went on the whole idea of "Showing those old shumcks up." For reference, my dad still has all his natural brown hair and is in decent shape for his age. He straight-up looks like he's still in his 40s.
He came back with several pictures with all these people and he looks so out of place with all the balding/grey fat dudes. The sheer spite of him going just because he knew he would look better than everyone is honestly the best thing ever. Just another reason to look up to him in my eyes.

Oh, and at my actual reunion- when we did five-year, I went, partook of some of the devil’s lettuce with someone I was peripherally friends with in hs (most of my close friends at that point had decided not to go, since they mostly moved away & felt like it wasn’t a big enough anniversary to bother coming back); talked outside with this friend for a while & discovered she was semi-in recovery from hard drugs (we actually went to a meeting together the next day, as I had recently stopped drinking); then we went inside again, where some “popular” kids who used to bully me acted all friendly while I cheerfully reminded them how they were terrible to me in high school (bc I was…..under the devil’s influence? 😅); then they got all embarrassed/awkward and left. I thought it was hilarious.

There was a five or ten year reunion at my high school, the planners used the invitation to be assholes, for old times' sake, I guess. They called me repeatedly and hung up, made weird noises into the phone, and then when they finally got to the point I was so upset that I think I cry-yelled at the phone something like "torturing me for a decade wasn't enough for you evil assholes, you have to keep going?" and hung up.
I didn't go, haven't received an invite since, don't know if there have been any more reunions. Personally I think 15 years should be the absolute minimum gap, but then 23 years haven't been enough for me to get over the shit I went through in school, so maybe a 30 year reunion is better.
P.s. Teachers, don't tell your smart but bullied students that "one day you'll show them, you'll be successful and they'll be losers because bullies don't prosper because everyone hates bullies" because that's a massive lie. Some of my bullies are extremely successful people, whose faces are regularly in local media. My most "impressive achievement" is probably still that I was one of 7 students in the country who got a perfect score on the English final in 10th grade 23 years ago and now I can barely string together a coherent youtube comment.

My high school had a graduating class of 30, most of whom I either didn't like or just didn't care about, so I haven't gone to any of the reunions. Oh, and the school is on a small island in southeast Alaska, so it's not like it's convenient to get there.

I'm from Germany, so we don't actually have this kind of reunions. If we do, it's just like some hangout, talking and catching up. So no big deal. My 10 year reunion is coming up this September, which does make me feel way too old already, but whatever. Back in school I was unpopular and got bullied really badly. It stuck with me for a really long time and I therefore didn't attend the first couple hangout sessions. When I finally went to one like two years ago I was so glad that I did. Those people who bullied me did in fact grow up. We had some really nice conversations and they were actually interested in what I was doing and what my plans for the future are. It helped me a lot to get over my past and to actually forgive them. Kids are stupid and it's great to see them grow into adults. While I don't have contact with any of them I do actually look forward to seeing them again. I think it's even more interesting if I only see them once every couple of years. So yeah, I can't complain even if I originally never intended to see these people ever again :D.
I was super unpopular and no one would date me. Went to my ten year reunion with my husband and I looked like an elegant lady. I finally got my social and physical act together. I won the “Most Changed” award. Now I go if I can and I’m no longer a bombshell but I’m super comfortable in my own skin. I genuinely like myself. I have made peace with even the most unpleasant of people. So now I go just to see where and how people are now. It’s a chance to dance, drink, and eat. My husband passed from cancer 11 years ago and I now have an adult son. We’ve all changed so much. Only a couple people are still mostly the same and they seem quite unhappy. The rest of us are fine as we are.

I think our 20 year reunion fell flat due to Covid. It was hard to get us to do anything anyway. I was surprised our 10 year reunion happened.

Although in all seriousness, I am definitely given to understand that the group of friends who I DO still see are still “weirdly” in touch according to most outsiders lol. I was in a friend’s (rather large) wedding party last year, and the SO’s of everyone involved agreed that it was weird how much of the party, as well as other guests, was made up of our high school friends! I also just went to my hs friend’s wedding last week (to the close family friend of another hs friend, although they ironically didn’t get together until that friend’s wedding despite knowing each other for years); and had the same experience there- all the SO’s always comment how many of us there are from so long ago haha. Guess we’ll see if it happens a third time at the hs friend’s wedding I’m going to next week! 😂😂
I don't even know if any of the schools I went to have any desire to have reunions. It's been 23 years since I got out of school, and I'm actually glad to not be going to any reunions. They seem depressing. You see the school bullies and remember the crap they pulled, you see your ex's and have nostalgia, and you look around and figure either half the fuckers you dealt with are either dead or they GTFO the area and made sure no one could call to invite them to the shit hole that you're sitting in. No, I don't think I would want to go to a reunion
College reunions are definitely a thing. My alma mater does (I think) a reunion of the fives every year (5 year, 10, 15, 20, 25 etc) all combined on the same weekend. I haven't been to any of them -- or to any high school reunions either.
Mine tries to get alums together during Homecoming weekend.

I made a vow to never attend any of my high school reunions. I thought about it for years. I didn't have any bad experiences. I dealt with a bunch of knuckleheads who all have criminal records now.I just don't want to go. I have a list of excuses to get out from attending.

My 10 year high school reunion is coming up next 2 years and I have no interest in going either as I was pretty much a loner at my school and heavily bullied. The friends I did have I either have fallen out of contact with or has moved away and has told me they won't be going either. So the most I will do is probably drive by and flip everyone off as I do. Our reunions were not always provided with a band (3 out of four had bands and one had a DJ) and were quite nice.
I will always go to my high school reunions. I was the Valedictorian of my class, am the most successful out of the school, and am going to be the first with a college degree. Here's the catch: I was in a class of 1. Homeschooled all the way through from kindergarten to 12th by my awesome mother, who was tolerant of my OCD and SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) to educate me. So yeah, my 10th anniversary reunion will be a bag of Doritos, a can of Bang, and a day off from work to play Xbox. Fun.

I have no idea, but I think the class I graduated in didn't have a ten year as it would have been during the global panini. Not that I would have wanted to go.
High School was awful. I wasn't bullied per se, they just liked putting horrible rumors out about me. Here is the kicker. I don't know who was doing this, I don't even know what they were. I just know the less than popular girls, a crowd I usually fit in with, also wouldn't talk to me. Finally, at the beginning of senior year I was sitting near a girl I had always gotten along with although I wouldn't say we were friends. She told me she and I quote, "It's not that I don't like you, it's that people were saying things about you and we (she and her friends) didn't know if it was true or not so we stayed away." When I asked her what was said, she just shook her head and said she didn't feel it was her place to say anything. Can you imagine going through three years of school alone because of a rumor? I was a "good girl" I didn't even date (nobody asked me out), and I lived rural so no people close enough to play with, thus no people to observe me doing anything, good or bad To this day I have no idea what the rumor or rumors were. Who would go back to that?. I don't think about it very often anymore, except when something like this brings the memories back, but when I do it still cuts deep. This stuff doesn't really go away..
I know how you feel, I had the same thing, little different than you. But I would say that spreading fake rumours about someone is definitely bullying and if it still bothers you, maybe it would be good to seek help.
Also, those people were shit. They didn't deserve you. I'm sure you deserve love in your life and you'll eventually get that. ❤
Story 18 is so sadly true...A guy who was in my year passed just a few months after graduation. He'd gone to a nearby lake to jump in the water with friends from some small ledges overlooking the lake, and picked a bad spot to jump from; didn't clear the rocks... I didn't know him personally, but I was in the homeroom class that was taught by his mom. I really liked her and felt so sad for her and her family. Losing a child, especially one just out of HS, must have been so hard and painful...I still think about her sometimes and hope she's doing okay.
My college actually does reunions; they’ll take a Saturday in September that’s essentially Parents weekend and set aside classrooms for different classes.

I have never gone to my high school reunions, but I've been to my 2 year, 5 year and 10 year college reunion. College reunions are also fundraisers, so they are quite popular.

University reunions are more of a European thing in my experience, my mum has one coming up.
Im 38. Ive attended several schools but have only been to one. And it was for anyone who ever attended. It was a Catholic grade school k-8. 1 classroom for each. My middle sister and i went. Only 1 persom we knew showed up. She was in my sisters class but i was friends with several of my sisters friends so we all knew eachother. It was so boring.
My 10 year High School reunion was planned out by one girl that after high school became very very political. I was sent the invite over Facebook and added as a friend by her. Well a few weeks before the reunion there was an election held to pass certain laws in my state, one being the legalization of cannabis which I was all for. I made it clear I was for the legalization I got a DM from her say that I was uninvited to the reunion because "We can't have drug supporters at HER reunion.", I was kicked from the Facebook group and blocked by her. I messaged a few friends that I knew were going and told them what happened. Word got out and everyone told her that they wanted their money back because of how I was done. She gave them all a refund, unblocked me just so I can see the really long rant about how I was ruined the reunion for everyone because I was a supporter of drugs and should be shunned by everyone in our class.

I didn't go; I was bullied because of religion, politics, being a good student, culture, social issues and a long etc., but boy oh boy was it fun.
The first hint I had there has been a reunion party was a call to my parent's home, telling them I was the main attraction of a sex (after reunion) party. My father, who took the call, looked at me (I was watching TV) and told them he was recording the conversation to sue. The very brave caller went silent and hung up. I suspect it was one of the boys who bullied me.
Later, one of the girls (L) I was friendly with in high school told me two (boy and girl) of our ex classmates had an affair, both married to other people. Their spouses found out in the reunion. The cheated wife drank a little too much and bawled her eyes out, telling to L how much she sacrificed for him and how he didn't love her.
Someone brought their baby because there was no one available for nanny duties. One of the bullies gave the baby alcohol, and laugh when the baby tried to walk and fell. Other bullies joined. The mother (ex classmate) tried to rescue her baby, but only when the husband (a police officer, not ex classmate) came, they stopped.
I wasn't invited again, oh the pain.
Our high school had fantastic 10-, 20- and 30-year reunions that were attended by at least half of the students. Our class had 110 students total. With the 30-year reunion there was a WhatsApp group with 90% of us on it, sharing photos etc.
We had an unusually early get together it wasn't a formal reunion but I just realized it was the only one my friend got to see. He died of cancer and he was only like 28.
I’m autistic, was actively being abused, and had no support at the time. I learned all my social skills through trial and error. *All of them.* I was trying my absolute heart out to be a decent and kind person, but I was absolutely a creepy, stalkerish, gross, broken little creature back then. I’ve got no interest attending an event full of only people who exclusively knew me at my worst.

I'm still in the area of my high school because my parents live there as do my in laws. I was bullied back then so I stood by my "you couldn't pay me to go" stance. Didn't really matter as I don't have Facebook so even if people remembered to invite me they wouldn't have been able to get a hold of me anyway. So the ten year reunion comes and a friend of mine goes and he said there was barely 50 people there and he didn't know anyone.

My first High School is scheduled to happen in 2 years, and even if I didn't have the logistical issues I do now, I still probably wouldn't attend because my social battery can't handle groups larger than 10 for more than maybe 5 or 6 minutes. And chances are the whole thing will probably be put off for some reason if the last five years are any indication of what to expect in the current day.

I'm guessing from your commentary after the first story that you were not extremely bullied or tormented. It's easy to tell someone to "get over it" when you didn't really suffer. It feels like some kids were taught that it doesn't matter how you treat other people in school, because everyone grows up and are supposed to "get over it." To be certain, I am over it, but I sure don't want my former tormenters to come up to me years later and act like we were friends. I hope they remember what they did, hang their head in shame and go out of their way to avoid me. That's the best outcome.

I graduated in 2000. We had our 10 year, but not the 20. Our 20 fell during the thick of COVID.
I don't need high school reunions to know how everyone in high school has been doing, a majority of them never left the town. The mean girls got pregnant by their high school boyfriends and ended up as single moms, one student is in jail for murder, the drug dealers OD'd and the class clown is 30 but perpetually 15 with 3 children he never sees and never pays child support. Some of the smart ones were able to pursue the careers they bragged about going which was good and as for me, I married my high school sweetheart after 10 years of dating.
My friends high-school girlfriend showed up at our 20th, with the son she never told him about .
I got a reunion invite and didn't go as the only other people who I'd want to see didn't go, and my best friend from school had died a few years before this invite, so I didn't bother

Last year was 10 years but i doubt my school would do one. I can't recall the exact number for the graduating class but it was definitely a hundred or less. Alaska has a huge brain drain problem where when we turn 18 we leave and I doubt at least 30% of us are still anywhere around North Pole let alone the state.
Wouldn’t know. There’s been 3 reunions and I went to 0. 1 was the weirdest one (a 6 year reunion? Just why?), a 2nd was 10 years at the local baseball ⚾️ team’s stadium but I was in the middle of helping a lifelong friend move his kitchen equipment out of his former restaurant, and then the 15th was to be at the high school homecoming game and the bar (due to the rain, only 6 people went and ended up at the bar).

She was on the Debate Team. The Debate Team kids were the lowest of the low.
They sent an invitation to the stoner in jail for Grand Theft Auto but not the Debate Team.
I was invited to the reunion for Arizona (I live in ny now). It was a huge school and I was friends with about 5 people. No thanks. I pretty much blocked out my childhood and didn't recognize anyone I've seen who said hello to me. School sucked.
There were twelve people in my high school class, 52 people in the entire high school. In the middle of nowhere. Never bothered going to the reunion.

My 10 year planner contacted me because they wanted me to go do the work I was busy - working with Norman Reedus they didn’t believe me He was like Who is it? give me the phone! And they banned me from the event.

Anyway, I highly doubt I'd go to my ten year sixth form reunion; I would be that person who attends, does an about turn and leaves.
I didn't go to my 10th, 20th, and never plan to return to the region now that I don't have family down there any more. It's Mexico Border Texas and there's way too many problems with illegal immigrants and illegal drugs. I'm glad I got the F out of there and moved back to New England to be with my dad.

Now thinking about this and also deleted my last comment. I processed something and I remember my sister went to her school reunion back in 2014 so this is what happened. So around this time my sister I believe what she in her late 20s early 30s got an email from somebody saying their hosting a reunion for her votech she went to and well she thought hey that'd be great to go. Now here's the punch. She doesn't drive and my parents didn't want to drive her. So guess who had to drive her little brother in their mom's old car. It was so embarrassing for her. She just told me the drop her off and scurry off to wherever she wanted to go. As soon as we pull up her friends immediately recognized the car because it was our mom's old car ( sorry, I may be laughing to the fact that some of the reactions are pretty funny ) So my sister tried to push me off the go somewhere else. You know maybe you go back home and get ready for work the next day or whatever as soon as her friends Saw me from the car they immediately said is that your younger brother? Wow! He got his driver's license! Immediately I was like okay. I'm out here. I just want to get out here. I pulled away in my mom's old car and just say her old friends were just chilling out in the gymnasium. It was like some small party. I didn't get the whole thing about it because again I just went home to play on my PlayStation. Ah 2014. What a year!
