    Great video.
    Love my recon 1 tanto.
    Cold steel just doesn't get the love they deserve.
    For hard use, they are hard to beat.

    Can't beat the triad lock. This is definitely a classic in the edc world. Great review 👍

    That is one of the baddest work knives ever. Coldsteel makes knife for people that use knives not keep knives in safes an bags. I’ll take a coldsteel over 95% of the stuff out there. Most claims hard use but has a liner lock or a frame lock. which is just a fancy liner lock .
    Never had to take a knife apart in field water an air will clean anything. Think about buck used that knife for years you can’t take them apart never needed to. I never had my pocket wear out either an I’ve been carrying coldsteel for many years everyday

      Awesome Scalping and great points, and yeah your right about cold steel making knives to be used, not for collecting and thats one thing i definitely give them credit for

    I recently scored a Recon 1 Clip Point Satin S35VN on the secondary market. I'm not a fan of coated blades and I regret not getting one when they were available, now I'm glad I found one!

    Could be one of the ultimate edc’s, right behind the Microtech Socom Elite...but not far behind though.

    I bent the clip back to lessen the pressure. It was a bear to get in and out of the pocket originally. Although I do carry it for edc more than anything, my favorite use is for when I go out to play in the woods. I even batonned with it once to make a a bow drill set..I normally would never baton with a folder, but the thing is one tough sob.. You would have to really abuse it hard to get it to fail on you. It's a good camp knife, and general outdoor use knife. Although when I batonned that bow drill hearth board it was only about 2 1/2" thick, I thought sure that would scrape up the coating, but it didn't. I'm generally not a fan of coatings, but this one really has held up surprisingly well. I'm sure it will show wear eventually though. My Lawman is starting to show it a little bit, but I've used that one far more than the Recon, just because it's a more pocket friendly carry.Speaking of that Lawman, I loaned it to Outpost76 for his head to head cut test, s35 version vs CTS-XHP version, and he put a good 3 or 4 edges on it, and I've sharped it both before and since then, so I'm guessing a good 7 sharpenings, maybe more.. Keep that in mind if you check the bte thickness on it, as well as how well the coating has held up. It's cut a shit ton of cardboard and other stuff to get to the way it looks now, and it really is only showing minor wear.

      Yeah the coating still looks fresh, and the clip is fine i just know that everyone wears different pants and the person who carries this is wearing jeans for sure and possibly thick jeans, but its a great knife that can totally be relied on

    I also love the texture of the handle. It feels like you are holding something serious, not that kind of FRN 'toyish' feel. It reminds me of the feeling I got when I first held a Colonel Blades knife. I was very surprised by the tip when I got my Recon. Some of my other cold steels have these beefy tips. The recon actually has a very nice tip for EDC. I am just a bit conflicted about the thin blade and fine tip on a knife that seems to be aimed at 'hard use'. To me the blade on the SR1 seems to make more sense when you have a big strong knife. Yet I can't decide which I like more. The best solution is probably to get them all.

    You're right about the different blade shapes on the same model, that's why I have 3 Recon 1s. The bowie is my work knife & even tho it has some scratches the coating is holding up well after years of use.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah its the best kind of coating to get but scratches just shows love marks and gives character

    My only real issue with the Recon 1 is how far you have to depress that lock to unlock it. It would leave a dent in my thumb every time I used it. My thumbnail is that Recon 1 half way open to ease up the tension on it. It was my first new knife purchase a year or so ago & it got me back into buying knives.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats why i said that thing about the lock should have the dent in it

      Operator error. With practice and break-in there is no problem with opening and closing action. Strength comes with practice as well.

      mine never got smoother but i got used to it, my other cold steels have this as well.
      it's just the triad lock i guess, needs a bit of extra pressure to overcome that additional pin.
      no biggie though.

      @@TH-cam-Censorship-Police I figured out a way to reduce the lock release pressure. Look at my video number 1356. Title: Cold Steel Triad Lock Tension Adjustment explained for Haters.

    They just need to take T 6 off the market for knives. We would all be happier right! I’m just saying let’s rise against the 6 😆 just kidding but seriously T6s are a thing of the past. Good video! The CS clips work but I think they could do something different! I’m a CS fan so no lie I carry one everyday no matter what! Good video bro ✌🏼out

    They had to switch over to s35vn because of the availability and wait time of the xhp. Unfortunately we're now stuck with the s35vn, sucks for me I never got my hands on the xhp versions of any of the cold steel knives. I only have the aus10 which is super tough and the meh s35vn.

      @@NeevesKnives yeah I don't see why not. I mean SOG is still using CTS- XHP for some of the XR series, I think the Pentagon, vision and kiku still have xhp if I'm not mistaken.

  • @aznelite325
    @aznelite325 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm glad I got the XHP version, it's hollow ground and .020" behind the edge. Cold Steel had trouble with XHP being delivered to their OEMs, so that's why they made the switch to S35VN. The coating is DLC, not a paint or epoxy, so it'll wear crazy well. My Recon 1 is one of my favorite users and the reassurance of the Triad lock plays into that, though I definitely sanded the texture underneath the pocket clip.

    • @a.d.c7941
      @a.d.c7941 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That black coating should hold up well?

    • @aznelite325
      @aznelite325 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@a.d.c7941 Yes, DLC coatings are extremely wear resistant. The kind used on knives generally has a hardness of 72 HRC, typically much harder than the blade steel. DLC is also chemically bonded to the steel, so unless there was a fault in manufacturing, it shouldn't chip or flake off. Eventually after enough use and abrasion, it will wear off like anything, but it provides a lot of protection to the blade.
