The American Bladesmith Society’s guidelines for Master Smith and Journeyman Smith applicants require that (s)he cut through hanging manila or sisal rope, a minimum of one (1) inch in diameter. The applicant must sever the rope in two with one stroke to test the blade’s edge geometry and sharpness.

I like the new testing format. I personally carry a recon 1 spear point as my edc, even did a 3 item overnight survival challenge with it. Ticks all the boxes and can even strike a fire steel. Thanks so much for a great product and testing videos.
The Recon 1 series, in CTS-XTP, are hands down, my favorite folding knives. (They are, however, closely followed by the Spyderco Military.)
You know, I own more Cold Steel Knives, in my collection, than any other brand. They just make great, highly desirable, 'must have' stuff, from folders to _pole arms._ Who else does that?

I probably have over 20 knives at this point (a small number for most collectors), and I'd say probably 15 of them are from Cold Steel. No other knife company I have purchased from makes knives as strong, high quality, and as affordable as Cold Steel does, not even the more expensive brands.

In old test recon 1 can held 330 lbs and new test only 250 lbs ..

I LOVE my RECON 1! It's the MOST COMFORTABLE knife in the hand, when you're gripping it correctly, it feels SSSOOOOOO SMOOTH in the hand. It's like nothing can knock it out of your hand! Nothing will break your grip on the folding knife!

I'd like to see a Recon 1 vs CRKT Seismic test..the Triad Lock is a beast but the Deadbolt Lock on the Seismic is no slouch either.

I just purchased a recon 1 tanto for my sons 21st birthday. This is a sick knife! I purchased a keychain knife for myself.
It's not like they haven't done this before. Robert acts amazed! What I want to know is? How much can the recon 1 take if the same test was taken, but with the knife in the lateral position. Let's see what the knives will do then. All their knives that is. They test their fixed blades like this!
Just one small little (well actually a big thing, and a left a review for the Code 4 also) thing that I pick up is that, especially with the weight hanging test onto the handle: The lanyard hole of the Code 4/ Recon 1 is quite far to the back, and accordingly to me one has to measure an exact same distance from the centre of the pivot from where the blade swings to the rear to make all these folding knife blade tests equal. Obviously if you hang the exact same weight further away from the pivot from where the blade swings the knife can take a heavier weight as for example an inferior knife in the test but it also survives because the handle is shorter for example!
You're not taking torque into account. The hole being further from the blade and the locking system means it takes way more force than if it were closer to the center. The only way getting closer to the locking system would make the blade more likely to fail is by tying the weight to the lock release in the back.
Edit: This would be due to the weight unlocking the system and closing the knife.. because that's what pressing the release bar does.
I hope in the near future you will decide to make the Recon1 with sculptured titanium handle.
There’s a R1 that’s made in Taiwan with no steel grade markings. Is this legit?
Sadly, There are some clones out there. I saw an AD-10 selling for $100.00 bucks, it had clone written all over it. I was tempted, but I already have the real one.

I like mine, it just sucks at working on wood in a bushcraft situation, which is what I do most with my knives. My Tuff Lite is actually much better for that, and still pretty solid for self-defense!
