So far riding my sons Pint I’ve come to realize two things. That I absolutely need one of my own, and much of my nearly 20 years experience snowboarding has really come in handy.
This is great advice! I just started riding my XR to work for the first time, and I noticed that I was getting some foot cramps on the 5 mile trip. I believe it was all to do with me riding in straight lines for commuting purposes, and not carving around and negotiating tight trails like I normally do. I barely used 25% of my battery on the way to work this morning, but my legs are jelly and my feet hurt. Yesterday I rode from 90% to about 5% around a disc golf course around foot trails and through the woods and I never had any fatigue at all. I think constant carving and turning is the key, as you say.
On day two, first multi-mile ride on my Pint today. Former active snowboarded, but been off the mountain for nearly a decade... life got busy 😔 Carving was a huge improvement on my front foot fatigue today. Awesome advice. Great day, huge smile the whole time. Only got up to 12.5mph (which I wasnt trying for, just noticed on the app afterwards, sign of progress, comfort, and growing familiarity) which is fine for me on a trail. Also, quick note. Had my first “over the nose” experience as well today, going up one of my secord or third hills/inclines. Went a little faster than my previous attempts, and dug the nose in. It was over in a flash... but, thanks to one of your previous vids with the guy from CarbonSmith I was dressed for the slide, and bounced tight back up and rode away thinking, “Well, honestly, Im kinda glad thats over with.” Great stuff, keep it up. In the days before my happiness machine arrived I poured over your vids and feel like I was super prepared to go, thanks to your insight.
Do you recommend a concave pad set? Maybe flight fins? I'm not into jumping. Just want the surest footing I can get. I feel the fins would offer the locked in feeling. Thoughts?
jymmy Dkid Definitely grab a Kush Nug. Had some CarbonSmith footprints on my front pad, but felt like it kept me from keeping both sensors active, so I removed the heel-side and use the toe-side to help carve turns. Both Nug and footprints helped with foot fatigue early on. Made my ride so much more comfortable. Haven’t gone with Flight Fins yet, though curb hopping is tempting, not really my plan to fly around too much. You don’t really wanna be too locked in, since bailing gracefully is a key skill. Invested in some Land-Surf Pint fangs (fang bumper) , might wanna look into that newly dropped (long anticipated) product, little insurance on the front end, plus they add a bit of a front grip, while stylishly staying outta the way till you need them...
Yes Bailing...I was told to practice that! Told to start off on grass soccer field and jump with both feet. Nug huh? On the rear... Googling... Does anyone make a silicone foot pad? Squishy..but NOT TO SQUISHY? Your view on "fishbones" MAYBE one flight fin? Front or rear depending on which is more comfortable. (Thinking rear) Something for your foot to rest up in for a stable feeling. I do not feel the fender can do this. I dunno. I'm still waiting for Fed-ex. It's like the time cartman was waiting for the WII to be released and couldn't wait so he froze himself in the meantime. Yea...that's me right now. Gathering info incite and accessories.
jymmy Dkid grass is the hardest surface to ride on. Nug is only for the rear pad, you don’t wanna mess too much with front sensors. There are other footpads out ther, but you don’t wanna go too soft. Every bit of pressure counts when riding, silicon, like wearing running shoes, will mess with that.
I had to come back here to say that this video and your wobble video were really helpful - thank you! I’ve spent lots of time watching your videos and the info that I learned was invaluable while learning the fundamentals. My XR was delivered on Thursday and I took my first ride today. After working on the basics (standing, stopping, accelerating, and turning), I rode 6 miles and applied many of your tips along the way.
I found that out on day 2. Day 3 I broke my shoulder < 30% accu, uphill, fullspeed, no pushback sensed, nosedive, ...🤦♂️ Can't wait to keep on riding. So much fun. Ride safe eb. ✌🏻
My OW is a few days from my door. Question... What setting is best to learn? Which gives THE MOST pushback sensation? In custom mode can it be programmed to give the most sensitivity in these aspects?
Thanks for the great video, i tried it and it works great, i was fighting foot fatigue and thought it was my age (57 years old) i hope you post more, thanks 👍.
Thanks for your videos. Because of you I actually bought a used Onewheel. I was lucky enough to find one with a fender and only 21 miles on it. Loving it. Thanks!
I just jammed downtown and back... 7 mile trip. No stopping. Second day with the board. I snowboard and can get those long 's"carves... Well they translate right or to pint. I'm loving it. You also get an opportunity to regenerate whole on your heal side because I teens to lean back into that side and push forward on toe side, gaining speed. It turns into this kind of push pull balance... Awesome flowing feels! Badass!
Carving is what the OneWheel is truly about... hell w/ speed. I have not found a better morning combo than OneWheeling and Vinyasa Yoga, sometimes w/ an Organic Bombshell Latte in one hand... Yes, The Best Day Ever! Experience has taught me to be mindful of hip, leg, and foot placement... The back foot stance is generally at a 45degree angle, though when carving the rear heel in my Vivo Barefoots will gently lift off the back plate a 1/4". Also, I have found that spreading my arms out like a skier w/ poles helps me maintain more control, and could potentially advert a face plant by running it out vs hands in pockets... haha. Hips are constantly in motion swaying in a subtle figure-8 w/ forward and backward centrifugal force of the gyro sensors in Custom Gemini Mode.
I was wondering why my leg was always sore from my ride sessions. I barely got my onewheel on my channel, but I keep coming back to this channel for all my onewheel content
Thanks for your tip. It was well presented and explained. Learn to carve first before getting into going faster. I like it and will do when I get my own Onewheel. Can't wait!!! Aloha
New subscriber to your channel, and let me tell you this is GOLDEN. Im up there +60, was looking at a Pint (cost). Wife saw my XR envy and spotted me 1/2 for the XR! (She's a Keeper) I'm loving this thing.... Kids chase me like the Pied-Piper ;) Your videos have been the "Onewheel University" for me! Great channel! :)
Yeah I figured this out on day 3. I rode 2 miles and noticed the same type of bliss in lack of leg fatigue. This was a great vlog and scenery. The wobbles is in you knowing how to slow down and not fight the one wheel. I just relax ad slow down. I also make sure I keep my foot flat on the pad.
I got my GT! Just went for my 1st onewheel ride ever. At 1st I had to stop every 100 feet or so and switch my leading leg, now I can make it maybe 600 feet or so. I notice when going a little faster it wabbles and feels scary. I'm going to keep trying. Thank you for this video!!
Great video! I've been watching your videos for a while and they've been super helpful, both before and after I got my XR. This seems like great advice as even on the 5 minute trips I've made so far my calfs have been getting really tired. I'm gonna try this on my next ride. Thanks!
Just got a OneWheel for Christmas! I think carving is easier because your not trying to balance in the middle with ur muscles loose. I feel that’s why I wobble , or might be also be fear… When you’re in a slight carve ur muscles are tensed up trying to hold the constant edge/angle. And rather than trying to float in the center while going straight , when ur carving ur pressing down onto that edge. The resistance from the ground helps keep you balanced. Sorta like leaning against something so you don’t have to do ALL the work
Turning is definitely more important than speed. If some of you are having trouble, try riding with the opposite foot forward. I snowboard goofy but find OW works better opposite. However, dismounting without wrecking my board and myself has been my biggest problem. 6 miles on my XR.
And you can actually increase your speed by carving. The pumping action of going into each turn while carving actually increases your momentum. Follow the flow of the landscape.
When snowboarding when you carve you don't really have to strain any muscles. You just lock into a turn and you get pushed into the board by the acceleration of the turn. Same on a wheeled board. You use a lot of stabilizer muscles and hold them locked into prevent wobble and tipping. But if you aren't constantly fighting wobble many times per second you can just easily glide through turns.
Carving came very natural to me on this thing growing up skateboarding but i think they may also have hindered me? Leaning forward to go and back to stop takes some getting used to. i wanted to put weight on the tail when turning going slow or stopped and that can hurt. Also going over obstacles or stuff on this thing that would hang up a skateboard instinctively prepare to bail or shift my weight which can cause a bail. Luckily pain is a wonderful teacher and you learn fast what to do and what not to do.
Thanks for the tips. I just started today and got the hang of it (past Ninebot One experience helped, I think), but I was worried the wobbling was mechanical or something. Makes sense that it's probably just some undeveloped muscles. I'll try to work more carving in to see how it helps.
Can't tell you how much your videos have helped my (safe) entry into community stoke! Couple minor falls but was prepped with safety gear and a plan so not even a scrape to show. I feel like your videos, blogs and rec's prepared me for everything except for the neck pain I experienced on my longest ride so far. Feet were fine, fangs were installed and float was happening until my neck started to get stiff. I thought it might have been from a minor slip off i safely landed during turning practice but as I rode it got worse. I just heard you mention neck pain in your NYC day 3 video and wondered if you have any advice re: how to stretch, adjust feet, or build stamina? Thanks again for all you're doing for the community and please keep turning out content we love (been fun to hear and see the subscriber count race up)!
I'm also a new rider on a used V1. Had foot fatigue and started to do more carving drills at slow speed to build some confidence. At very slow speed i can tip the wheel and learned to turn right radius and still balance on tire edge. Nice camera work. What do you use? Just gopro and stick?
I agree. Slow is key. I think on day 3 I managed to hit a top speed of 18 mph. No more of that for me. As a beginner, it's much more fun and safe to carve slowly. I use an old GoPro Hero 3+ with some cheap selfie stick. Stuff I already had but never used. Who knew making videos would be so fun?
Another tip is dont push it too hard especially when just starting out. Im just learning (ridden less than 5 hours total)and yesterday i rode 5 miles around a local park. You use muscles you never knew you had. This board is deceptive, you dont want to stop once you start getting the hang of it and will ride until those muscles are fatigued. On my drive home i could really feel my legs were dead. Today rode almost the same distance and was ok so you will get stronger, just be careful.
I’m riding now and just wanna know how to get my front foot uncramped and not hurting from uphill or just like 10min of flat riding. I don’t live near or really know where he lives…trying to stay relaxed while riding
I stand at my desk for work and am constantly shifting on my feet - on purpose. The ergo trainers say, The most important motion is your next one. I think you're seeing that here.

I love the feeling of floating too but when does the fear subside for you?? I can’t shake the jitters and it leads me to slowing way down and then getting wobbly.
This explains my fatigue! I'm on day 2 and loving my pint!! The feeling of freedom to glide on the ground is effing incredible!
I just bought one and it arrives today. I cant wait

Very true, actually flexing your muscles over and over helps to circulate blood in and fatigue causing chemicals out of the muscles.
I've been skateboarding most of my life and the OW is completely different I love it but it's certainly a new vibe
Same!
Same, agree!
It's not much different...if you have powerful legs and ankles.
Totally agree. I'm so used to having trucks under my feet now there's nothing. Just mild resistance. Fun tho
So do u recommend it and how much would u rate the OW out of 10 ?
I’ve been riding for a couple months now and carving is essential to understanding how the board works. I carve as much as possible.
I had to come back here to say that this video and your wobble video were really helpful - thank you! I'm not a speed demon but I do really love sweet buttery carves at a higher speed on smooth pavement. Feels so good!

@@itszaque Wow! Good work! I think it's going to be a little while before I can make it 9 miles.
The music is way too loud

Thanks Jimmy! I Am on day 5 and cant believe how fun the OW+ XR is!
Welcome to the family! Take it slow and be safe! It's not about the speed. Enjoy the journey!
Great video. Today was my first day on my XR and this video gives me hope.
very motivational, I am actually rewatching some of these videos.
Thanks for the support! Hope the videos aren't too boring.
Looking like a pro Jimmy
Thanks!
You, 4yrs ago is where I'm starting in 2022. Learning on a pint is slow at 50+.
Thanks for this video. New GT owner here. Today was day one for me. My foot is wore out.
Keep going! If you can drag race motorcycles, you can Onewheel! Just don’t go too fast!

Ayyyyeeeee! I'm still learning bro 👍🏾 love this vid frfr. Tryna get past this foot fatigue which I'll get there.

awesome thank you man!
How much PSI do you have on your One Wheel for best balance? I can’t go over 11mph without wobbling
Love this video... thankyou x
lol holy crap jimmy... you sound so young, i was so surprised to hear you had a daughter and wife in your last video haha.
cheers to esk8's!
Great advice. Thank you
ok but how?? i just got my XR and i get so wobbly/nervous that i slow down and try to stop. i fell once on my back and it was not pretty..
got that Bob Ross vibe
I’m riding now and just wanna know how to get my front foot uncramped and not hurting from uphill or just like 10min of flat riding. I don’t live near or really know where he lives…trying to stay relaxed while riding
Taking my one wheel on the Dam road trail as well.
You can also lift your heal and toe to help circulate blood in the foot...
What about riding backwards? Is that a good skill ?
I stand at my desk for work and am constantly shifting on my feet - on purpose. The ergo trainers say, The most important motion is your next one. I think you're seeing that here.
have you carved on a nice wide road yet? How's that feel?? Must feel so nice to carve on a wide road
Alex D check out my latest video. I do some carving after testing it on a beach. Definitely feeling more comfortable. Powder day every day.
hmmm now have you ever ridden an electric longboard? I've always wanted to ask someone who's ridden a longboard + a onewheel about which is more comfortable to carve with. Does foot fatigue erase when you carve on a longboard as well?
Alex D I'm sure for fatigue goes away with practice no matter the board. Never have tried an electric longboard though.
Alex D i have the evolve bamboo gtx and the onewheel xr and i definitely prefer the onewheel, its just so much more intuitive and i love that you can turn on a dime with the onewheel
What was the answer to wobble
yep. get in an empty parking lot and practice with the lines like they're cones.
When u carve you don’t need to deal with balancing the board as much.
Same as snowboarding , always carve.
Jimmy,
you should check out @slydogstroh's channel if you're bored. Check out his videos and how he rides his onewheel throughout chicago traffic. It is ohh soo smooth.
The way he rides makes it seem like his intention is to be as light as a feather while on the onewheel. I'm sure that mindset helps to carve which will in turn to reduce foot fatigue
Jimmy, where are you riding?
This is at Chatsfield State Park just outside of Denver.
what size is that helmet you got on?
High key saved ur boy a nose dive.
I still don't understand what is carving all about?
It just feels awesome. Esp when you go hard and deep side to side fast.
Carve harder. It's fun!
You don't need to turn the board with your feet. Its all in the hips and shoulders. Very similar to a snowboard
Thank you
today is my day 2 i rode almost 11 miles on the pint with 4 miles to go on the battery. my right calf is so sore
HOW it’s range is only 8 miles
Interesting.
Riding in traffic like that makes me nervous...for you.
You really aren’t wrong but people only know that once they ride a onewheel pint lol
Tip #1 should be to BEND YOUR KNEES
You need different shoes
Jimmy holla at your boy.Real nice review man. If you want to see futuristic Onewheel player shit, check me out! Peace.
If you workout like me. foot fatigue is a myth. for those that aren't used to stimulating their muscles.. you'll have a harder time controlling them and getting used to using them for a longer duration.
The advice in your videos are great but I think this will go for a lot of people when I say do more in video talking, the voice overs you do aren’t the best with the timing of things happening in your videos
Love the content of your videos and watch all but you’re voice is too monotone and boring. Have some emotion and I’ll start liking maybe even subscribe
ok ya I guess but no "tiP' lol just stating what snow boarders knew.. Long video just to say practice carving
Weenie *
Thanks for that tip! :) I guess I'll practise carving now!
Carving is the way to go!
This explains my fatigue! I'm on day 2 and loving my pint!! The feeling of freedom to glide on the ground is effing incredible!
How long did it take to get your pint once you paid for it presuming you got it off onewheel
I love the feeling of floating too but when does the fear subside for you?? I can’t shake the jitters and it leads me to slowing way down and then getting wobbly.
