Hermès Birkin Bag - $5,000 RESTORATION

- I know I know it’s Jane Birkin I made a mistake, OMG stop crucifying me!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
So this was a Project, this Hermès Birkin bag was left in storage for many years without climate control. Interior was completely deteriorated, mildew and musty smell throughout the bag. We disassembled the entire bag and cleaned, cleaned and conditioned it over and over before I was happy with it. Remade the interior with lamb skin and reinforced the main body to give it structural support. I did the best I could with the video and I hope you like it. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Even Hermes won’t repair a bag that far gone. Great job!
They will.
@@walideg5304 Hermes doesn’t repair the inside of bags
they absolutely will
@@peterhgalloway thats funny i read an article a woman sent a bag to hermes spa, they did not touch the inside of the bag and it needed repairs.
insider did a whole thing on Hermes fixing there bags@@daddysails8926
I wish you had a young enthusiastic apprentice to teach all that skill to carry on that super quality of work you have going on there. You are phenomenal!
2nd that👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Really masterful work & person @Steve
That could be you 😀
I would literally move from Florida to Virginia to become Steve's apprentice. I love this craft so much!!
Great work, but it seems that it’s not an original Birkin, The feet of real one is not screwed, it’s hammered. Maybe I’m wrong..
I tried calling the shop asking to be an apprentice and was told he doesn't teach 😥 it's such a shame! He's one of the best, would have loved to learn from him.
How anyone could spend that kind of money on a Birkin bag and not keep it in a climate controlled storage is sickening! Your restoration job is perfection, Steve.
Easy, the people who put it away didn’t care for the monetary value. There could have been a divorce, or an elopement, that the owner didn’t find it worth going back for. The original owner could have past away, and all their stuff eventually moved out before being given away. A lot of people don’t know the worth of things and just move it out of the way for ages before eventually getting rid of it.
@@evelyn_r I saw a video of a couple who found a pristine, antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk at a garage sale being held by an elderly lady who didn't know what it was. They were giddy they snagged it for $200. I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night knowing she needed the thousands it could have obtained at auction to live on.
Who in their right mind would spend that kind of money on this few slabs of leather and cardboard? This is the handbag version of the emperor has no clothes........
@@raffinee_3763 Agreed. I buy the super fakes/dupes without the logo. That bag is a workhorse, but not a $15,000 workhorse.
Sometimes people don't know the real value of inherited items that's why some of these luxury bags have been found at thrift shops
I'm 70yrs old and I'm going to start a new career as a cobbler 😂. Your an inspiration to us all with your skills and craftsmanship, especially the knife work. Such patience and technique. IMO this is one of your best videos Steve, keep em coming ❤
Incredible work!! I agree the price is too high for a bag, but contrary to others brands Hermès have literally many little towns to sustain in France. They have multiple farms where the cows are treated with the utmost care, they have fields to ensure their pasture is top notch to obtain the best leather quality. And they have created schools and diplomas to train people to their high standard. Everything you see in metal in the bag is 24 karat gold-plated . So compared to others brands their spending is much higher, I think it’s important to keep that in mind. Especially if we compare to Chanel…
Or Palladium. 😊
It should be gold for that price
@@3litangelsAgreed lol
@osiria75 thank You for sharing. Sometimes people don’t understand what goes into certain craftsmanship. Hermes is a dying breed where they ACTUALLY STILL PRODUCE many of their own products BY HAND and haven’t “OUTSOURCED “ it to factories on the other side of the world like Chanel/LV has. Very seldom do you hear about QUALITY issues with Hermes like you do with Chanel/LV and the difference is that Hermes hasn’t gone crazy with the constant price increases(although their prices are steep) like LV and Chanel who in my opinion don’t deserve the current price tags because the QUALITY and craftsmanship isn’t there in their products anymore. They are now mass produced which is why they are experiencing the quality control and super fake problems. These other topics are not meant for this post and I’m not defending the brand. Just speaking to certain facts.
Also LV isn't even leather only the handles and trim so your paying for canvas
What I absolutely LOVE about these types of videos is how they "pull back the curtain" on how these iconic, overpriced designer bags are actually made. And while the materials may be of a better caliber than most bags, at the end of the day, they're still glued in places, include some kind of cardboard-like material to give it structure, and may even have some hidden imperfections as you pointed out with the leather on this bag. Also, even a bag as expensive as this cannot withstand abuse and poor care! Leather is leather and just because you pay a TON for something, doesn't mean it can withstand any kind of treatment.
Well done! I hope this customer pays you LOTS of money and that you get well compensated by TH-cam for the views and likes on this video!
I agree that prices are ridicules but people are on waiting list to get them, so why not charge them.
This is not original Hermes bag. Feet, stabilizing material, machine stitching are all wrong.
I hate how they use carboard for the inside. We have that kind of structure in cheap shoes and bags.
Steve, you an absolute legend! Watching you makes me calm and happy. I used to help out my local shoe repairman 60 years ago and sat with shoemakers in Spain when I was in the Navy. You are a sixth degree Black Belt in Leatherwork. God Bless you Sir! Thank you for sharing your talent and expertise!

Strangely theraputic watching you restore this bag, apart from the hand stitching which looked like an absolute chore, great job as always Steve.

Fabulous restoration! Thank you for sharing with us!
That shade of blue is gorgeous! Thank you for all the time and effort!
That leather is BEAUTIFUL. And your work is impeccable as always.
From Wikipedia: In 1983, Hermès chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas was seated next to English singer/actress Jane Mallory Birkin on a flight from Paris to London. Birkin had just placed her straw basket in the overhead compartment of her seat, but the contents fell to the floor, leaving her to scramble to replace the contents. Birkin explained to Dumas that it had been difficult to find a leather weekend bag she liked. In 1984, he created a black supple leather bag for her: the Birkin bag, based on a 1982 design.
Another one! My wife actually watched this episode with me! She loved it!! Great job Steve.

Best video ever! Appreciate your candor regarding the price of a Birkin. You and Tanner Leatherstein are 💯 in my book!!
Thanks for sharing Bedo, so awesome!
Your work is masterful. The client had to be beyond pleased. Especially knowing the condition of which they brought it to you. Your thoughts on the functionality of the closure are spot on. This style bag is not my taste but I see the appeal for others. Beautiful color though. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. Beautiful work as always.
This is a fantastic job. Congratulations! I never thought this Birkin would be so beautiful again.
WOW what a beautiful restoration.
Jane Birkin haha. Love the work done on this bag - incredible!

You did a awesome job with that bag. It is so beautiful 😍
Steve, brother, you are talented! You're practically a miracle worker! 👌
Wow. In this video, you never disappoints me. Thank you.
Another amazing job. You took a mess and turned it back into a masterpiece. Well done. I'm sure the customer is thrilled to have her beautiful bag back.
Once you opened up the inside and the lining and the yellow dust started spilling out…I automatically started choking.
Craftsmen like yourself make my brain happy. Exceptional work, well done. Keep doing you ❤️❤️❤️
You did an amazing/excellent job of restoring this bag.
Fabulous, quality craftsman… what more can I say..👍

I always love how passionate and informative your videos are. Been watching for years and you never disappoint!
As always awesome work.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
Most folks leave it unbuckled, and the flap open, I watch all of tanners videos it helps me really understand I am paying for a name. Your videos made me understand its labor I am paying for when I think that's an easy fix, I see how much work that simple job is.
The best leather master craftsman in the country. What amazing care and actually improving on the Hermes construction technique.
It’s a fake
Always, always such a fabulous restoration! Hugz, Tree
I’m astonished by the amount of work you’ve done! And the quality of your craftsmanship 🎉
A true master at work❤
And jeez, holy smokes is that lamb skin such a great match of color. My local fabric store would certainly not have that lol. I find this sort of work sooo interesting. It would be awesome to learn from you (or anyone) with this wealth of knowledge. It has such a good combo of working with hands and math and cleaning - great for my personality!
Wouldnt beleive it unless i saw it. Terrific work. Super impressed. I always learn something from one of your videos
Thank you for sharing your craft!! I absolutely love watching your videos! I would love to be doing what you’re doing!!! And I would love to see more videos just like this!!!!!!
Don't worry, your prononciation of "Hermes" is very good 😀 I like this format of video where you show your work and you can speak freely, it allows you to make history points on the items you're working on, it's very interesting. Thanks a lot for sharing your work and your knowledge.
It´s such a joy to watch you work! Thank you for taking us along and giving us the chance to see what´s inside the Birkin bag. Highly appreciated!
It’s simply a joy to watch, so relaxing
Bravo, Steve.
The hands of a man who's made quality goods for years
Such a beautiful repair! Who knows how the bag ended up so damaged but pleased to see that you fixed it. Congratulations!
You are a artist at work!
A master at his craft! 👌
Amazing what people with money will pay for labels! At least that bag appears to've had better materials used than the LV and Gucci stuff. Love me some saddle stitch. That's mostly what I do when sewing leather. Very nice end result on something that was going away (internally) so bad. Always a pleasure seeing your handiwork, Steve. God bless you in your efforts.
Saddle stitching and hand skiving are my two favorite parts of leatherwork. It would be pretty tough to be competitive in stitching by hand. You do really beautiful work, Steve.
I agree. I only do hand stitching. Don't have a walking foot machine. Only a hobbyist leather crafter. My stitching pony just gathers dust since I learned the Leap Frog method of stitching. I can do it anywhere, not tied to a bench or clamp. Corter Leather taught me how to do it. I think his method is faster and more precise than using a pony. Hand skiving is still my bane. I try to hone my knife before every session. I cannot seem to get the angle correct on my leather strop.
Love stitching. hate skiving
@@ObelixCMM Almost anyone can do saddle stitching. Skiving takes a lot of time to truly master. It is what separates the boys from the men....so to speak.
Wow, Great Job Steve!
Beautiful workmanship ❤
Another triumph from the master!!!
Hello! greetings! I have been watching your great work for a while. They always bring me so much joy to watch, all the more since I miss so much cutting, sewing and stitching (I started cutting and stitching at the age of 12). My father had a leather and shoe shop down here in Paris, mainly importing handmade shoes and bags from Italy.
The work, craftsmanship and the quality of materials that you are putting into you work is simply mind boggling. I am still amazed to notice that the materials used by some brands are not what one could expect given the price that is being paid. Many thanks. regards
Fantastic job! You are the best.
Loved your patience, talent , attention to the HERMES detail & finished product…..as an artist I appreciated your entire process through video.
The variety of textures in the *luxdups* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
Outstanding!!👀
You are a true craftsman and artisan. Mad respect for you.
Steve, I noticed when restoring the bag the feet that were on the bag were screw-on studs. I believe a real authentic Birkin uses feet rivets. It would make me question whether the bag is genuine.
It's 100% a replica
@@ruben-wb7bt I know nothing about designer bags but I’m avid sneaker and shoe collector so I do understand how expensive these items can be. Man, a $5k restoration on a fake that’s a hard pill to swallow. It’s certainly not Steve’s fault and the customer should have sought out an experts opinion.
Hi, yeah it's an expensive repair but it's a Fake i Can tell you it's been 3 years i work at Hermes and everything is off from the général shape to how metals parts are fixed. No stiffener like that on the real ones just plain leather
@@ruben-wb7bt Oh I believed you. I was just saying to pay that much for a restoration on a fake item sucks.
Yes i think bedo's himself thought it was a real
