    I'd wager that Immortan Joe swerved to avoid Angharad not because he had any deep feelings for her, but because she was carrying his child. Another part of his personality not mentioned in his video is that he has passed over Rictus Erectus as the heir of his kingdom. Rictus, while being physically imposing, is in no position to lead the kingdom, as he suffers from an intellectual disability. So losing Angharad was losing Joe's last chance at producing a viable heir.

    Immortan Joe is a good representation of the type of actions and systems that would need to be put into place to establish a semblance of order in a post-apocalyptic environment. Everyone always wants to be the badass loner but I think a no-rules environment like the apocalypse would be open season for those with the ambition & strength to rule over others more-so than anything else.

      "Immortan Joe is a good representation of the type of actions and systems that would need to be put into place to establish a semblance of order in a post-apocalyptic environment."
      The movie literally espouses the exact opposite message, painting the wasteland as infested by moral anarchy which breeds iron-fisted theocratic dictators, whereas people like Max and Furiosa seek to re-establish the old, nearly fallen, modern idea of law and stability founded upon human rights.

    Immortan Joe IS Toecutter. Toecutter survived being hit by the tractor trailer, and the survivors from the toecutter gang (the ones who fell into tje river) nursed him back to health. After this he fought in the wars, using his given name. Note Toecutters megalomaniacal personality, the way he controlled the gang members was in a "because I say so, and I am your god" manner. Toecutter and Immortan Joe have identical personalities, use identical methods to control their people, look the same, AND have perfectly matching timelines. Immortan Joe and Toecutter are one and the same...

    A great breakdown as always. The only thing I would disagree with was Joe's love for any of his wives. Joe seemed to only care about power and his legacy. Given his age and health I believe he called the wife that died his favorite because he viewed her as not only the most beautiful of his wives but also the healthiest, meaning his best chance for a male heir. Even as he chased after the War Rig he shouts at her that the child was his property and once the child was dead it dashed most likely his last best chance at a healthy heir. We can guess this because you look at Joe's army and he had many great warriors Furiosa was definitely his best as her skill and abilities are shown through the whole film. But you look at the War Rigs second in command as he was not only a capable commander organizing the War Boys giving orders to them and spotting weaknesses to defeat the Buzzards. Then you have Slick who was noth only a capable warrior but had great abilities such as him boosting a War car during the final chase. The best of all the War Boys was Nucks as we see while near death he was not only determined to go out for one final battle but we see his abilities at driving given his War Car which lost a wheel yet he was still able to catch up to Furiousa, get on the War Rig, and even drive the Rig when many couldn't if it was for their crazed devotion to Joe his army would have been greater than we see in the film. But that's also why he cares nothing for anyone but himself and his heir because when Nucks messed up and fell on the Rig, Joe left him in disgust yet as the wives not only care for each other, but Furiousa, and Max and even Nucks we see the War Boy leave Joe's army to stay with our heros. So that's why I say Joe cared for nothing other than his power and heir.

    Honestly, I don't much see how Immortan Joe could have improved the situation without violating the integrity of what the War Boys, which is the only thing theoretically maintaining peace in that region. Sure, his side hustle was bad, but overall he accomplished a lot with very little and made it work despite the overall condition of the world working against such a feat.
    Could he have been more giving to others? Sure, but at what risk to the security forces (the War Boys and the other enclaves) that help maintain general safety and stability? Could he have resorted to something a bit less like slavery? Yes, but it would fail the moment someone/anyone said "no" and that might cause the whole system to collapse. Did he really need to make himself out to be a god? Of course not... but then could he really be sure the War Boys would fight as hard as they needed to in order to be successful if they didn't think they were fighting for a god in the wastelands? The *only* thing that can't readily be excused is his improprieties towards some of the pups and the wives, but even then they were a fine stock of breeders and could/would have been victimized by other gangs far worse off than the War Boys, as the other films showed. It's dark and twisted, but of all the people to fall victim of such a crime to, Immortan Joe was likely the lesser evil/better option. At least he'd keep them fed and hydrated, and even educated. It's a rough setting with a rough world, and Immortan Joe was a rough guy... but everything considered, he made the most of it.

    One suggestion I have is Hal aka Titan/Tighten from Megamind. On the surface, he is a meek, dim witted dork. But once he get powers, he reveals himself to be an entitled, violet (but still dimwitted) bully. Compare that to the title character, who plays the classic super villain but there’s never a real sense he was out to hurt anyone, especially Roxanne.

    • @jorgebersabe293
      @jorgebersabe293 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And as Cinema Therapy has analyzed, Hal/Tighten/Titan is also a disturbingly accurate depiction of a "Nice Guy": Hal was superficially polite to Roxanne and as such, he thinks himself entitled to sex just for being superficially polite, but his mind doesn't register Roxanne as a person, but as a prize to be won. Hell, he doesn't even know Roxanne's hobbies and preferences. When he gets powers, he expected Roxanne to fall into his lap with no effort of his part and when that didn't happen, he threw the equivalent of a massive tantrum.

    I saw this after watching the prequel, where, true to what the comics you are referencing imply, Joe is a much more competent leader on a normal day. It shows how his arrogance and desire to leave behind a legacy clouded his judgement. He is capable of being pragmatic, until you steal what he most values for building his legacy.

    This just popped in my head as I was watching a TH-cam series talking about the life of Genghis Khan.
    While yes if the world's ever reduced to such a state that the strong can indeed to anything they so desire because no one can stop them; eventually, after decades or more likely centuries of such an oppressive rule, there will come people who can not only challenge, but also put an end to such a culture with their brains. Think of The Mongols while Temujin (the original name of Genghis) was building himself up as a leader, the Mongols lived in a similar way of life, where the people with the most power over the lives of others abused those who don't; Temujin came in and put an end to that and brought amazing prosperity to everyone, now imagen that happening on a global scale. While humanity will suffer for generation, nature will not allow such abuse of power for long, and lowly over time the brutes will be replaced by those with brains.
    Just figured I might share a possible light at the end of such a depressing tunnel with the ending of this video.

    Was I the only one who thought that Immortan Joe was actually the hero of the film? Sure he's tough and brutal, but he lives in a tough and brutal time. He brought stability and purpose to a large group of people. He rations the water because he has to. That last shot in the film where furiosa lets all the water out is basically spelling the death of the entire civilization. It will run out quickly without being rationed. Immortan Joe was the the kind of leader that they needed. Joe is the hero of the film, Furiosa is the villain. Also why did his "wives" even want to escape in the first place? If you look at it from the perspective of that world, they literally have the best life possible. They get pampered and fed better than anyone else, and are protected from all threats. Sure they have to sleep with a greasy old guy every once in a while, but if you're in a post apocalyptic world, thats not the worst thing that could happen. Plus you know that your children are going to be the most privileged members of your society. That film's production design was masterful, but the storyline was a mess.

    • @jorgebersabe293
      @jorgebersabe293 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yet you conveniently forget that they were on a gilded cage. Imagine being forcefully taken from your home, forced to sleep with a tyrant to provide him with a heir and then discarded for not "being good enough." If you think Immortan Joe is the hero of the story, then you didn't watch the movie at all.

    • @randomarcgunner4543
      @randomarcgunner4543 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      His society wasn't made for long term survival and wasn't efficient.
      His "rationing" was little more than inefficient displays of power, since when you look at the scene where he turns on the waterfall, you can see how for several seconds the water is freely flowing without anyone catching it, and even when the Wretched do begin collecting it, most water ends up being absorbed into the ground while most of the Wretched are unable to get water.
      Admittedly the last shot of all the water being let out isn't efficient, but it is unlikely to be a permanent thing.
      Then there is the system which he has created, which is in no way made for the long term since it relies on a cult of personality that will die with him, just look at the crisis of faith Nux had and apply that to an entire army realising that the god they followed is very much not immortal.
      Then you have the way he goes into battle, which is highly wasteful as can be seen by the guitarist with the flamethrower.
      And what he was doing to his wives was still not ethical, they were constantly raped by him, were branded with a hot iron and referred to as property; if he actually cared about them then the least he could have done was view them as people.
      If he wanted a society designed for long term survival, he wouldn't have based it on a cult of personality that will die with him, nor would he have the extremely wasteful displays of power with the waterfall.
