- This was a tough one to post. Here is the Firebird up close and personal. There is so much I dislike about this car and I plan on fixing it ALL! Hopefully this car will be back in action soon.

Liv. Everyone goes through that process when they’re building a hot rod just to get the thing going and driving. It does really need help and you now will get it right.

It's only embarrassing if neglected or "fixed" in worse quality than when it started.
Project cars be project cars. They require constant TLC.
Please put iner fenders on her,2ed Gen gets a LOT of structural support from the inner fenders Plus it'll help brace the fiberglass and keep it from flexing. Get a hold of the company that does the carbon fiber get them to support you along with painless wiring... Get busy on that phone, email.
This is awesome. Im glad you have a partner thats into cars and building them the right way. Throwing cars together is ok but ultimately they need to be correct and safe. Cant wait to see the progress
One of your best videos yet, for sure. It's cool to let us in on the "roadkill vibe" and be transparent. All the pieces are there, for sure, it just needs refined. Once that's done, it's gonna be so much more fun to drive, too. I went through the same thing with my c10. It's so much nicer to get into an old hot rod that you know is solidly built.
I `m not saying one word about your car. I think all gearheads has one of these or it has been in the driveway at one time or another. What I wanted to comment on was the word adjusted. It is so simple and complete. NO longer do we need to make excuses. Now all we have to say is it needs to be adjusted. Thanks for the awesome channel love to see a woman involved.

Actually reminds me of a Firebird I used to have was a 70 or 71 and I got a gas tank fire and burn it up junkyard wouldn’t even give me 300 bucks for the front clip with formula hood on it an excellent engine and tranny radiator and all that was still good so so I bought a body from them and rebuilt the car but it was never that ratty but it was lacking because it was so stripped I never could get a C in it and fortunately I traveled all over USA working in power plants and when I had time off I would go to their local junkyards getting parts for that car was difficult but I tell you what I learned a lot about Pontiac 400 motor and transmission formula hood added a lot of coolness to the motor a lot of pressure my hood scoops went out further back they actually hung out over the nose the car was my daily commuterpAnd I loved the horsepower I would drive from Sacramento to Placerville big uphill grade and and just do it no problem
This car has so much potential to be much better than it's been. It's a very cool car already.
That's the exact reason they say "do I right the first time".
Don't give up Liv, the small stuff is actually the easy stuff.
Your good Liv. The tough ones are the ones that show your car-moral character. First you just wanted to go fast and you accomplished that. Now, with your refined 'knowledge gained' you improve your product to go fast with a more conscientious safety level and improved style. I chalk it up to periodic maintenance. After all, this car hobby of ours is always a work in progress.
For me on this gen. of Firebirds there is only one color. The gold that was on Jim Rockford's car.
America needs more Liv Scaffidi's......i have NO other recourse but to subscribe....i am confident this is a good choice.....

I'm glad that you are addressing the issues your ride , never be embarrassed to learn something new today then learn more about the way you want it done and do it right. You have done more than most people would and you can say that you have built it and you can and will be proud of it when you get fixing it correctly and mostly the way you want it. Repeat, "I did this and it is right and the way it should be", have fun and enjoy your day. God bless and enjoy your rides.

we kinda set a high bar , and it's not easy getting there.
The car looks very solid. I would recommend replacing every wire and switch in the car. It's much faster, cleaner, and takes much less time.
I appreciate your enthusiasm for your hobby there and I am just taking a "wild" guess here, but the fella that is helping you out with the situations on that car, I'm guessing he likes you "just a little bit"...
I had a 77 Bandit... when I was 18 , was the Most fun... I have ever had with a Automobile... I could write a novel...And I have owned so many car's over the years...But that Car was awesome, it had its own character....😎 And attracted an audience...
Thanks for the Video.... As was said in the Video...This is how you learn... Obviously your in better company than in the past and the "Quality" in the shop reflects that. Other than the "Safety Items" that were pointed out...Sometimes to keep things moving you have to Macgyver your way through it. But your on a different path now... So as Larry The Cable Guy Says....Get Er Done.
I just bought a 78 Monte Carlo, I’m in the process of unf.cking everything right now…it’s similar to your Firebird. I love the “roadkill” look but with good components and thoughtful execution.
How about a whole new wiring harness from painless? I bet they make a simple "Race Car" harness that has just the basics. It may make things easier and better. The car has potential to be really neat! You sure have a NICE shop to work in!!!
Since I have a 73 Firebird and added the dual snorkel hood to it, first Thing I would do is take the roll bar out of it and take the interior back to stock. Nxt thing Id do since you have the DSH get the engine operational so you can get the benefits of the hood. Nxt Paint it black or black cherry. Get a set of 15’ rally 2 wheels and get them blasted and powder coated then a set of Firestone wide ovals with new trim rings and caps. Then maybe if your budget allows a Gardner exhaust or if you can’t afford that a Pypes exhaust is a good second choice but don’t let them try to talk you into the single muffler system get the dual mufflers. Good Luck your gonna need it and a lot of $$$$$. By the way mine was a true barn find and the color is Brewster Green
there is a header bolt missing, i picked up a Camaro 1974 what a mess, but makes me feel much better seeing this! must have been built by the same hack. at least yours runs respectful, engine was junk kept very little tossed the rest. thanks love watching you work on cars nothing better.
FYI, you don’t want to use a flat blade screw driver on those Zeus fasteners. There is an actual Zeus tool with a radius trip that fits correctly.
If you attach large car washing sponges to the underside of your hood, you can put it on the roof without scratching anything

As strictly a track car, you got something there. If you want to make it a dual-purpose driver you are going to have to do a lot of sheet metal fabrication to get it buttoned up, but that puts the weight back on it. Good luck with this build.
I love these cars. They are beautiful. The lines the curves the skoops. This car finished with updated suspension will be awesome.
I dig it. We all been there, looking back at past projects amd see the shortfalls which can inspire us to have another go and improve on our projects and be proud again doing the work we love. Have fun
You are doing well..especially when you're self-taught.. Your a straight up awesome person, your bill is going to go great .You should have seen some of my first holy moly .
Love the honesty! in reality, all the things you "exposed" here on the Firebird are common with so many builds that are put together with a deadline. plumbing. whether you are plumbing electrons, plumbing brake fluid, gasoline, trans fluid or coolant all that plumbing work takes huge time and to get to the track it never has to be pretty just functional which is why it's always "temporarily permanent! I have a fox body that needs a lot of punch list items fixed and just revived the car after a 10+ year slumber. It's all plumbing... cannot wait to see the cool solutions you find!
there are specific Dzus fastener tools for cheap that give you better leverage than that screwdriver or a quarter. Using a basic screwdriver is where Dzus fasteners get their "love hate" relationship but as you see you need them for flimsy fibreglass, esp. on a unibody car that's already flexing its way down a track.
Looks like you guys make an awesome pair! Love the second gen Firebirds! You are definitely on the right track! Throw in some updates on the Tempest when time allows. Very impressive!

I've always loved these early 2nd fbodies especially the FB like this one with the nostril hood as I call it. I actually prefer it than my 69 Camaro.

Did you happen to buy it from the East Coast? My dad and I sold ours years ago i have a photo still and it is the same red, black front end, formula hood, and a mirror on the driver side only. I actually still have the spare mirror we were going to put on. Glad to see it live on if it is:)
Duck tape is saying it lightly girl that's a fire waiting to happen and the rad support is pretty jenky! Hope ya get to your goal, I had a couple of firebirds in the days and wish I still had em!
I had a 72 Formula w 455 4sp I loved this car. It was so much fun to drive. I hope you guys do some suspension modifications. It will make a huge difference. Have funn

I love that bird,I've had a few 2ed Gen T/A's Z28's the 72 Firebird is my favorite... I know it takes big money for everything but you've got this channel,get it touch with the makers of all the speed parts manufacturers get them to send you some parts to demonstrate on your ride it's a win for all. Just like if they haven't contributed in some way don't show any name brands peel off the stickers if they've embossed it mill it off...Your starting to get big enough following to get some swag.
Go with the assassin bars instead of the caltracs! They got a ton more adjustment for a good price. Badass ride. Finishing up an 80 camaro now and what you said is true, one and done do it right. Takes a little longer but better product in the end
Just need to tidy some things up and fix that fuel system for sure, don't want to have any leaks, gas is expensive.

I could've probably made a similar video on my '78 'Bird , also wondered sometimes how I'd passed tech inspection. Some cars are built with the 'temporarily permanent' philosophy from the beginning, or just get it going and it's good. I'm slowly outgrowing racing and driving fast so the car just collects dust these days
I was never into birds but instead Z/28’s in order, 1968, 1971, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1970 and all 4 speeds. The 1977-80 I ordered new.
Wow you have quite the hack job all over the car. 😂 That would never pass a street safety check. I call that a death trap machine. The biggest complaint I have on the bird design is how high the rear wheel well opening they have compared to the Camaro. The rear always looks jacked up and you can fit more that 1 fist on top of a stock tire. 😢

It's got great bones. I'd go ahead and get a complete wiring harness instead of going on with what seems like pieces of several.

Old vehicles mean old problems...but they look nice
Install a new full-body wiring harness. Trust me, it's the easiest way. Rats-nest wiring will be a march of headaches forever. With labeled wires and a quality fuse box, Painless would be my STRONK recommendation. I've done a half-dozen full-car harnesses... an open, fiberglass front end without a dashboard? Your problems will be nil. Heck, fly me down or buy me gas and I'll do it for ya over a weekend LOL
A bigger screw driver in the glove box would make those hood fasteners a whole lot easier too deal with..

Left/driver's side front of the radiator, about 3/4 of the way down the core right next to the tank...is the core leaking? There's a small spot that looks dark. You can see it at 3:04.

Have the perfect motor for that car. 427" all aluminum small block.
Now is when you learn to do super clean wiring and fabrication. Beaters are fun and a good starting point. Now take the time to learn how to get it safe and professional.

And I don’t know who’s been helping you with the car but a lot of your issues with that I would’ve never let you do work like that to begin with now you’re paying for it i’ve been watching you for a while now, and I knew you were going to get bored with this car really quick you’re capable of so much more I believe you’re going to be a lot happier. When you get that car in the nine second range you’re talking to talk you should have a vehicle that walks a walk I believe that’s where your mindset is.

Are you going to finish out the cage and put front down bars to stabilize the front subframe? Without a factory core support and front fenders those front subframes are pretty floppy

That brakeline kinked an fuel line/fuel canister issue and that driveshaft to long are key issues need fixed right now. Those problems should have never even allowed the car to leave the garage. Someone didn't know or was about to send you on a wild dangerous ride. Having a knowledgeable car guy around that knows about the little things is key so that they don't having big repercussions on you or life down the road. All that stuff has to be run right the first time you cannot halfass stuff to speed it along you're asking for problems you will not want when going fast. The fact that guy didn't say more in the video he's holding back because of what needs fixed. I can tell he wanted to talk about it more. That car needs alot of work it should have never passed tech to go fast down any track. Don't ever feel embarrassed if you're getting help to make it safe for you or friends riding down the road.
Also I would worry less about remembering the brands you have on the car right now and more about making it safe. It's easy for people to say what they have or used but if it's on the car installed wrong or used harshly it's possible it's doing everything it can just to keep stuff from danger. Like those power wires need to not be rubbing on the metal firewall like they are. They probably are a very good quality of coated wires for the job. The bumps and vibration wear or close exhaust heat will make them deteriorate just the same then that makes that brand not look well. When the PO installed them wrong in the first place. I don't doubt in my mind you're on the right path you just need someone alongside you showing the little things that are just as important to remember during hotrod/car building.
