An exaggerated or hyperbolical expression of praise.
Todays video will be about the most wonderful and ridiculous weapons I've ever had the pleasure of playing, Monster Hunter Frontier's Magnet Spike. Boasting ten trillion ways of countering monsters, absurd numbers and just some ridiculous visuals, you all deserve to see this crush some Zenith Monsters.
I have to speak about Frontier once per month otherwise my food supply gets cut off.
Happy 14th anniversary MHF ;;
I truly hope that at some point in the main series they bring back tonfas and the magnet spike. Actually balanced of course.
Rise seems like a good game to implement them, both have air mobility, and since main thing of rise is rising(duh), why not, petition to add magnet spike and tonfas into rise ultimate
They had tonfas…..
Monster hunter needs to go back to being more grounded and gritty... it's becoming too anime. Soon it will be just like any other action game where you're hacking and slashing with infinite invincible frames and people will get bored faster than ever, just like people are bored of rise already because it's too easy with how strong your hunter is
@@Sammysapphira *world's tiniest violin plays softly in the distance*
its been how many years form 4u? as thats when the IG was added, otherwise it was side stuff to that game
"What's magnetic about the magnet spikes?"
Aside from its charming and delightful personality?
I'll always miss MHFZ, so many good memories. But there is always something I would like people to understand, in Frontier "If your character has OP skills and moves, the Monsters respond with OP skills and moves to justify the challenge"
And yet most (new) hunter called fatalis and alatreon a crapton of bullshit in iceborne while we daily face bullshit upon bullshit in frontier 🤣
But yeah, frontier is actually pretty dang fun imo.
@@Chronostra Exactly! Alatreon and Fatalis were the only monsters in Iceborne who justify the 10 - 15 broken skills you can have in your armor set. When the "fun" is removed, people complaint. That's why I Loved Frontier, you HAVE TO be OP if you want to even stand a chance! 🤣🤣🤣
Yuck... you see a similar thing in TTRPGs. If one player builds a character to be OP, all the others are forced to be optimal as well or get slaughtered by the GM's "compensation."
@@Algenis_Santana True. It's not like it was easily farmable either. By the time you got your armor and weapon shit up to speed, you'd have mastered the particular monster so much that you were doing "no hit challenges" on yourself before no hit challenge was even a thing. Literally had runs where i said "if i get hit, i'll just abandon and restart". Then you go to the upper ranks only to realize the monster you had mastered, had more bullshit up their sleeve, and you repeat the process of mastering the monster AGAIN.
You LEARNED to be OP and then the game will find a way to punish you for it so you had to learn to fight back. I remember the first time i fought Green Narga, it was weird as fuck becuse i had memorized Narga so much i could kill it in under 10 minutes and not get hit. Then Green Narga comes in and it punishes your muscle memory by having a reversed move-set. Lmao
Learning the exact framing so you don't waste distance and DPS time, the attack pattern and finally purposely triggering a certain move so you have the advantage (unsure how most new hunters didn't know this, that you could purposely trigger a monster to do a move). It's weird seeing them just react to the moster's windup, instead of standing in a spot to the left, right, front or back of the monster to make them do move x or y or z.
Narga was my favorite hunt simply because i know his entire moveset by heart. Stand about 2 meters away and he'll do the double wing slash lunge then high pounce. Stand by the tip of the tail and he'll do the tail slam. Stand by the base of the tail or to his side by the wings and he'll do the slide around pose. Stand really far and he'll launch spikes.
You get to a point where you could purposely control the monsters themselves by know what attack is triggered by which conditions.
@@B.Scruby Manipulating the monster's AI is one of the main advance tricks to mastered to be Speed Runner level, but In Frontier you don't have enough time or space to do it, you have to react at every single move by evading or blocking or just say goodbye 🤣
I think the excess of accessibility of the new instalments of MH is what makes the game feel much easier, is not a bad thing when you fix some things that needed to fixed and add more quality of life changes, but some times it's just kind of dump, like removing the Heat and Cold drinks 🥲
We love this game, and we just want it to be better, don't care the new players call us "Boomers"
guess that weapon:
Players: boomerang?
Capcom: no, its a blunt and cutting weapon that transforms. It also has guardpoints
Players: its Charge blade, right?
Capcom: That weapon's not even out yet...ITS MAGNET SPIKE
Charge blade has been around since 2013
@@KingNexusMOCs mh4 i recall was japan only. Most players knew it from mh4u which was released 2015.
@@greadyknight Wasn't MHFZ Japan only too tho?
@@ThijsTrials MS become a meme at this point. Heck I want it to be imported into the main series cuz it looks that fun. People played frontier because they really wanted to. I never really heard of people mass importing mh4 and posting content on it.
@@ThijsTrials It was, but it still doesn't change the fact that MHFZ came out in 2016, while the Charged Blade in MH4 came out in 2013.
"When could you say you've rendered an entire weapon class obsolete?" Ironically enough, charge blade in MH4U also did this to hammer, and Kelbi bow in MHTriU rendered the other weapons in general obsolete lol.
It's always the poor hammer
Bow has an unfortunate tendency to have one particular model that is so good that there's no reason to use any others. In Generations, it was the Bow of Light and Courage (Teostra). Great attack, good Blast, and access to Rapid5 with the Load Up skill.
I think HH also contributed to Hammer being obsolete in 4U too
Rapid sticky lbg killed hammer in world, also sticky hbg, and absolute Power shot can get as many kos as hammer in rise, and hh can do the same while buffing its allies without recital.
Like capcom, just take hammer outback if you hate it so much lol
@Cleo King wouldn't say it killed hammer since a good chunk didn't enjoy that gun.
Also hammer got obsolete because Magnets could fly and bypass entire climbing "phases" on ravi. It sped up all phases and it was ridiculous. The closest scenario we had if it was ever hit with a nerf was tonfas during Z and Switch Axe before Z.1, both of them got hit hard in the mouth to the point tonfas were borderline useless and Axes rarely used fade slashes as an offensive move.
Well the nice thing about PvE games is you can release brokenly OP content for the player to wield and not immediately destroy the game like what happens in PvP titles. Yes, everyone’s going to be using the same gear, but at least it’s mainly the NPCs’ problem. For long term game health though, even in PvE, balance is important.
i just wanna add to this that, we can also choose to use "costumes" over our gear. so even if we all wear the same SET we might acctually end up dressed in something else.
the "Problem" was that Frontier needed the Magnet Spike, the Tonfas and all the ridicilous DMG the other weapons dished out :P Well we didnt need the hammer anymore after the Spike released but.. eh.
@@joemcbobinite maybe if they remove layered armor people would finaly stop using the same shit because the mixed sets are total clownsuits
I mean, considering how insane the monsters in MHF were, we needed an equally batshit crazy weapon to deal with them
"when can you say you rendered an entire weapon type obsolete"
Sunbreak longsword came pretty close... and I dont see them dialing that kit down for the next game either
Sounds like the developers were aware of the impending end of Frontier and decided to reward their hard-working Hunters. The Magnet Spike just stands far above all other weapon types from what I hear in your video Cera. Thank you for your hard work !
DPS wise the Magnet Spike is not the best but it excells in every other category. You have better defenses then Lance or Gunlance, you can stun better then Tonfas, Horns or Hammers, you did break Parts as well as any other weapon and your mobillity if used correctly is simply unmatched :D But what did put the Magnet Spike over the Edge was the Pin. Not only was that alot of Burst dmg but in Multiplayer Hunts it was an insane DPS window for other weapons.
@@Y0G0FU Thank you for the detailed answer. I bet people kept using their weapon even if the Magnet Spike could have been a stronger alternative ! But in your opinion, what was the best DPS weapon in Frontier if not Magnet Spike ?
@@LuluME1 Dual Blades in my Opinion. On paper at least nothing can even dream of matching the DMG output these babys can bring to the table. Outside of the realm of theory Tonfas, LS and Switch Axe are fairly reliable DPS machines. I dont know how the nerf and buffs went in the last years of the games lifecycle but back when i played Dual Blades where king of DPS.
Those cape physics 😯 considering the game still has a mostly MH2/3 graphical feel
It actually used mh2 engine.
@@nekrumzero8117 I'm pretty sure all the monster hunter befor world used mh1 as its base.
@@dantevic Yes and no they are successor engines even world itself, the only Mh runing on a completely different engine is Rise being on Re:engine. But frontier was literally using the mh2 engine for this reason it had the same issues and even nargacuga being it self a second generation monster gave the devs a lot of trouble to implement, some weapons even had hit-lagg for a while do to the engine.
Never knew how awesome the Magnet Spike was!!
I NEED a video on Tonfas!! Every video I watch makes me so jealous of people that got to use them. Hell I'm jealous of people that got to play Frontier Period!!

This is what I subscribed to this channel for: passionate british man going on about his passions!
So like, I get how Frontier players be, 'haha funny western hunter is bitter he didn't get to play our game'. But can I ask a question that has bugged the living fuck out of me since this weapon was revealed, without any irony?
Why do you have this whole fantastical weapon design with two modes, half a dozen moving or collapsible parts, and like fifty attacks in the total kit, and yet for the actual Magnet Spike the weapon is *named after*, you fire it by getting out a fucking glock? Like a regular-ass real-world handgun? Could they really not think of any better way to incorporate that into the weapon? Was the line drawn at adding a gun barrel in between the folding blades, would THAT simply be too overdesigned? Could you really not just hold it in Cutting Mode and use the handle like a bow drawstring to shoot a magnet arrow?
It just bugs the life out of me how disjointed that part of the design is from itself. Like imagine if you had Insect Glaive, this really elegant design right? It's just a stick with a blade on one end, and a blunt end full of pollen on the other, the bug on your other arm? Imagine if you went to do the pollen tracking shot to command your bug and instead of actually firing it from the weapon, you just got out a fucking colt revolver. It's just in your back pocket. You don't use it for anything else. Imagine if Bow's tiny melee attack was just getting out a handaxe for no reason, instead of just using an arrow. It'd be WEIRD.
Holy shit I wanna thank you man. That was a fucking great read and honestly, I have no argument against it, I suppose the magnet spikes are named after the fact you use the magnetism to move and evade, as well as the pin, but you make a great point.
You are a wordsmith and this was fucking brilliant, thank you. :')
@@CeraCymmetry Sincerely can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but genuinely I just had to get that off my chest, I've been thinking about this for years any time I see clips of this weapon

I never even knew these existed, after watching this I looked into other weapons I didn't know about and found the Accel Axe and the Tonfa, I dont know if any of these will ever make a return but I sincerely hope Rise brings them back somehow, I want to experience using them so badly, obviously give them a rebalance if they were that overpowered, but still, bring these things back
Reminiscing about of all those 3 weapons, Accel Axe is the one with more success rate at being brought to the main series since the weapon aren't legally binded to a game like Frontier with Tonfas and Magnet Spike.
If I remember correctly, during World hype devs said that players should not expect any of those weapons because they were exclusive to Frontier and protected with legal actions to remain exclusive. Don't know if that still is the case but when Iceborne came and Frostfang Barioth was announced, Accel Axe was indeed mentioned by the devs as a possibility since the mobile game was having a collab at the time but much to my disappointment, the collab was unilateral so we didn't get anything in our end. The same happened when Rise launched and the mobile game got a Rise update, same exact story but nothing else happened as the update was again unilateral in favour of the mobile game.
I don't know if AA will get into any of the main series game but if there is a chance, maybe when Rise Ultimate comes out but I don't feel completely confident for it to become true as so far, 2 times the AA was teased and seemingly Capcom axed our end of bargain with the respective collabs twice in a row. Maybe to rekindle the excitement Rise has lost ever since it was left to die, Devs will finally add AA? I don't know how likely that is but if that could happen. Many people could indeed get interested and really hyped about a new weapon in Rise that looks and plays amazingly! Specially since it's the second aerial weapon MH has ever made.
IG should not be the only weapon that covers that niche, specially when AA does it differently to the point the can co-exist rather fine!
@@gwagner1380 I know this is way later from when you posted this. But, I doubt the Frontier exclusivity is really a factor anymore with the game shut down.
I want the Accel Axe more then anything. It looks like its so much fun :D
Rise wouldn't have been the game to do that, you'd be looking more at whatever Monster Hunter 6 is going to be called.
Considering the changes between World, Rise, and the shutdown of Frontier, There's a fairly decent chance we'll end up seeing some new addition of a weapon, but possibly not anything we had beforehand.
I can only hope that Rise HH doesn't stay the same for when MonHun 6 comes around, the thing just doesn't feel the same with how they changed it. Feels for the worse.
I'd like if you could cover the Accel Axe of Monster Hunter Explore, but I would understand if you can't find enough information on it. Explore wasn't very well known.

While I myself didn‘t play the game that long I still had tons of fun and I like seeing that it finally gets some recognition by channels other then yours...and another German player that I subscribed to
Judging from the footage alone I feel like this weapon would be a main for me and that makes me sad. That said I CAN see why it didn't come back, with how ridiculously OP it was and all. But man I do hope it will someday ;w;
I'd love to try it
It'd be cool if they brought MHFZ back on it's own. I'd be willing to pay up to 80 bucks for it if it meant being able to experience that insanity

Also, no brainer, Switch Axe F
oh thats a VERY good idea
I used to come back and watch this video every now and then because I was always fascinated by Frontier, alas there was no easy way for a PC noob like me to set it up and play it. Now, though, I've just finished 2 star key quests and will absolutely be gunning for the questline as fast as I can (after some rest, it's 5am at the time of writing this, lol.)
....goddamnit i just got over my depression of this weapon not being in world
Thanks for rekindling that pain.....in all seriousness nice video!
This really shows the escalation present in the Monster Hunter series, how things get increasingly ridiculous as time goes on.
Imagine if, from the start, they had been thinking about weapons as complex and _anime_ as the Magnet Spike. Do you think, if Monster Hunter hadn't had its foundations in relative realism from the start, they'd have bothered having a sword and shield?
The monsters in Frontier are absolutely wild. As somebody who's only played the mainline games since 4U, I'm still surprised when people describe the sheer ridiculosity of Frontier monsters.
But that's what you want from an MMO with constant updates, isn't it? You want things to always get bigger, better, wilder, crazier. The Magnet Spike only really fits in Frontier because of how the game ramped up over time, and I think to bring it back in a main series game would require a very specific design vision that we've not seen in the comparatively grounded _World_, or even the slightly more over-the-top spectacle of _Rise_
they have not announced next major game (world successor), mb we will end up with something more arcady, World got released during a boom of gpu market so it was mostly about technical prower and beautifull environnements. Mb next one will be more about the gameplay and less the graphics.
There's a reason why there's an unseen asterisk after anyone says "Fatalis is the strongest monster in Monster Hunter"
Frontier monsters would fucking super smash Fatalis to oblivion.
@@olsenfernandes3634 to be fair, frontier also had fatalis versions that would super smash world's version into nothing. World's Fatalis was a great monster, only in world. In frontier it would be child's play.
This and the tonfa. I wish they would have thrown them in World and Rise.
wasent thoes added in this game? i liked the concept. they could have proably made use as rise is a real speedy combat game, and it also is the only game i will never own a horn becaise the way they play just never felt right to me in the demo and still dont.
Damn it had almost as a much I frames as modern long sword does
This looks and sounds INSANELY fun
So you’re saying hammer mains just went: fuck
I really hope when they come out with the world follow up they add even more weapons and hopefully this will be part of it
The mechanics alone of this weapon sound amazing. It’s so unique i love it!
I want this weapon to come into the main series. Without the magnet jumping for balance reasons. I just love how it looks and we don't have a weapon that switches from blunt to slicing as it's main thing. Like sure SnS has its blunt shield but it's not the same
And get rid of the most fun part about the thing?
Get rid of its main mechanic?
Don’t remove it, nerf it like make it slower during the jump, have more start and end lag, or rework it so that you can only have a push or a pull marker out at once not both
The reason I opted for it's removal because frontier exists in a world without IG and mounting attacks. IGs special niche is it's on demand aerial gameplay. If magnet spike had aerial elements plus the ability to switch between blunt and slicling types you would effectively be power creeping IG out. Magnet spike is plenty unique and fits better into normal MH games without the cool anime dashes lol. Though the name would have to be changed
@@KantaCrowe I feel like if your gonna remove the Magnet element then just get rid of the magnet spike as a whole and bring back the hunting boomerang (which was a scrapped weapon in GU and where MS’ slicing mode comes from) its cool as hell and should be fully realized.
Jeez man. You pull out out a gun more often than I do whenever I visit my hometown.
Sounds like magnet spikes would be perfect in rise, super flashy, has great movement, and is completely unbalanced
I know right, its not like we can already just basic combo monsters to death in rise ignoring all the new features. I feel breaking the legal BS holding new interesting weapon types back from future games should be done so we can experience these weapons.
But it is highly unlikely since in sunbreak we are getting a magnet spike-like mechanic, wirebug move switching. HOWEVER since we will be traveling to a more western themed local.............. one might hope at least one of those weapons will be present.
Just what we need... another LS
"When could you say you've rendered an entire weapon class obsolete?"

"When can you say you rendered an entire weapon class obsolete." Charge Blade doing the exact same thing to Hammer in 4U
I saw this when I was in college and it instantly made me fell in love but also jealous since I never or played frontier
this is probably the most god eater that monster hunter will ever be
It's videos like these that make me realize just how powerful the lost weapons were.
I feel like the magnet spike got split into the switch axe and insect glaive. Its certainly got aspects of the two weapons, and it would explain why it never got into the main series aside fom its overpowered everything
I love how instead of like throwing a kunai or hitting the monster with a tracker you just pull a fucking Glock out of your back pocket
Every single frontier video I watch just makes me wish I could play this game
I'll become a skeleton before I ever get to play with a boomerang in MH.
Monster Hunter ideas never die, I imagine myself using this weapon, it must be amazing since they look like fun
So theoretically a main series friendly version of this weapon would have the sidearm integrated into the actual weapon and the repel/attract function would be relegated to each mode. I'd assume the more counterattack focused blunt mode would get the attract function and vice versa for the slice mode
The more I watch your videos, the more I wanna play frontier :(((. Please do a video on Raviente next :D
Love your doing Still Frontier content, gotta sub :)
Ah yes the monster hunter weapon where you shoot a magnet gun and just freakin fly... never mentioned how much I love the magnet spike even though I never used it
I could see the Magnet Spike design retooled into a bow/sword hybrid.
I do like the idea of switching between blunt and slashing damage, like a great sword that would morph into something like a mace or club, if that ever showed up it's potential to be a good weapon would be outstanding and there's be of more worry about getting tails when you're using a blunt weapon
With the private servers up I’ve finally been able to try magnet spike and it’s pretty good. I prefer using tonfa, though if a quest is too hard I’ll switch to magnet spike (mostly musou challenge monsters and Z4* zenith monsters). Also the magnetic pin is always 600MV unless the “Weapon feature” is active for it, then it gets boosted to 750MV.
Magnet spike could work in mainstream, fight me
If they ever add it, I think the best way to make it balanced is by making the boomerang and hammer deal less damage in exchange for its fast paced attacks/combo, kinda like dual blades but with guardpoints
the magnet spike gave the hunter a pin,,,lmao!!! truly a monsterous weapon.

Never played with them but a big fan of hammer and charge blade sounds like they would be right up my alley
I hope they bring this back, it looks fun to use
honestly wish that a nerfed in mv magnet spikes returned to the mainline MH series, would be an actual fun weapon to play from the looks of it
It would need more than motion value nerfs. It'd need to be rehauled like the HH in Rise, because honestly... the damage wasn't the only broken thing about it.
I had an Idea for a transforming spear/shield weapon long ago based on that old japanese story of the shield that can block any spear and the spear that can shatter any shield
Since we have electromagnetic monsters in the main series now, we'll probably get Magnet Spikes in MH7
Alright you convinced me. I want it now. Capcom heads out asses, We need bigger numbers. Cmon give it back to us.
Needless to say; Magnet Spike was OP. But damn was he right on how much fun it was!!!
I truly hoped, and still kinda do, that the Magnet Spikes and Tonfa come back in Rise/Sunbreak. Like an ultimate surprise.
I have never played Frontier and by extension never got to to try out Magnet Spikes. However, I guessed the motion value at exactly 600, yet I was still wrong... this is the most OP weapon ever in the history of MH.
So it's basically the demon orgy love child of the hammer, charge blade, and switch axe. Imagine this thing in world or rise

The weapon should not be remembered for how overtuned it was, but the concept itself, They can turn the numbers down, change the conditions to do all the "Magnet Trap" thing a little harder (mainting its usefullness) the double blade its cool AF, the change to a blut weapon giving it both the ability tu Cut Soft Parts and to Break Hard Parts in just 1 weapon its so cool...
Of course they should "Nerf it" so its not so overpowered, maybe rework it, but to never see it again, idk dude, its a waste, a big one at that.
@@TheMaxCloud it is a waste, yeah, just wish that more people had tried frontier whilst they still could

Thank you Pepsi man 🖤
It certainly looks fun to play with them.
I never got to experience frontier or the magnet spike but they do seem interesting. If they were to ever decide to add it back into the series, it definitely would have to be changed up to not make other weapons obsolete or feel like it’s just a copy and paste of hammer with extra features.
I just recently discover this forgotten weapon. But it think its inbalance having a magnet and stuffs and its too much unrealistic weapon. But i like the weapon design and can be i think its perfect weapon alternate for insect glaive. Instead of magnet it should be wirebug or IG insect with wire will pull you straight to monster
The perfect mix of greatsword and hammer I want it
I don’t even care how good it was just watching that moveset makes me want to main the thing right now
IK this is old, but I would LOVE to see this brought to the main series if they balanced it out a bit better so it wasn't so OP. The magnet concept could really work if it had a sort of charge gauge or better limitation set. Seriously this thing is just too cool to leave behind
I honestly hope they bring these back in future games. Seeing as in sunbreak we are already going west maybe these can comeback in future updates
I'd have loved to main/use the Magnet Spike in MHW
Pauses into me jokingly saying 600.
Unpauses to hear ya confirm it...mother of gog...
Accel axe magnet spike and the tonfas deserve a fair shot in an actual mh game
Hunting boomerang would be so neat. magnet spike is just over the top for me
I don't think this weapon will ever enter the main number series and I'm saying this after foaming at the mouth from the Espinas reveal. They would have to nerf it utter hell.
I hope they bring these weapons to future MH games.
The suplex would be so cool if we got another baki crossover , maybe your character could have some sort of buff layered armor that gets the demon back when charging attacks/doing the suplex
This isn't a weapon .. it's a whole arsenal XD
