6:47 a japanese strategy is to lay a felvine bomb, use an item to buff up, the bomb explodes shortening the animation (felvine bombs don't do damage), and now you're buffed up with a pink mist on you than lasts 3 minutes (same amount of time as the buff). When the mist expires, so does the buff.
The damage you're missing out on by skipping early ballistas is costing you a considerable amount of time. With speed gather you can also make better use of the on-deck cannons and ballista ammo. Cannon shots are just good body damage, and ballista shots to his tusks give that satisfying "Wahhh!" break (and jaw damage). Even though you'll eventually go through all of the shots (cannonballs disappear, ballista shots run out) they return in the second phase. With Heavy Artillery you'll be breaking the cracks, tusks, arms (both) so easily that you'd really only leave the ship to drop the anti dragon bombs on one of his tusks for massive tusk damage. And honestly, even all of that could be skipped if you just low-recoil some HBG pierce shots into his face; honestly I enjoy the hustle of a Speed Gather set to get the most of the siege experience, but getting the final showdown prompt early with HBG because you're over-damage-skipping his ship jumps will probably feel like a sweet, soothing balm for you. But final remark, in second phase siege god mode mouth ballista sniper mode, you can actually push him so far back with staggers that he falls over dead out of the map and can no longer be carved. Your only real plan flaw here is continuing to lance attack spots you'll bounce off of (inside the broken crack) dealing only 25% of your damage and losing sharpness at an accelerated rate when you could be shooting him in the face with ballista and cannon shots after your manual breaks are done on the two back spots. (Although a fully charged GS strike to these zones won't bounce, as mentioned earlier, so it can be satisfying to set up shop in there, too.) Not to take away from your achievement though. You did it the hardest way possible and succeeded. I have played every monster hunter game since the first and always ran solo, so trust me when I feel your pain and pride in getting over a personal hurtle, and doing it your own way.
@@NuageMH yea... Any fights that use cannon and balista are designed to abuse those things for the first few runs on them. They do so much more damage then on level weapons and even more so if you armor skill for that stuff
and on top of that always barrel bomb the mouth when he rolls over in last phase its a weakspot this fight is easy as long as you use artillery and cannon
"Impossible wall" - me, a veteran of the series, who doesn't know him: he's probably a new hunter, master of the latest games, and doesn't know the value of the siege weapons. Video: he doesn't know the value of the siege weapons. My avatar when. Also in Tri, HP is more than doubled when online. For 3 or 4 players, this is less hp per player than solo, but more hp per for 2 players. Duo was harder than solo. (Say a 700hp monster solo = 2000hp online; per player, that's 1000hp 2p, 667hp 3p, 500hp 4p)
This whole thing plays out like one of those complicated heist movies, where there's like 10 people all with specialties to get the job done. Except this time it's just one dude.
I am so happy that Tri is getting a small community around it ever since Loc Lac came back. I can't wait for the day that we crack online and can experience this masterpiece together again. Loc Lac be eternal!
Oh man, I remember when Tri came out and the community was bitching about how the game would be too easy and "It'S nOt MoNsTeR hUnTeR". Loved the game, the new movement options was a blast and I'm thankful that we don't have to play old clunky PS2/PSP Monster Hunter anymore.
@@felixhbr2426 every new game is bitched out by so called veterans (even though most of them probably do 10% dps on most hunts) and then when the new comes out they say the previous one was the last real monster hunter. Kinda cringe if you ask me
I can assure you the G rank version is incredibly hard to do solo in MH3G. I had to do that and it literally had me in tears of frustration. It was only when I discovered that 2 hits with GS in the mouth of the downed Jhen in final phase was the make or break. I will never attempt it again. It was so hard. So I feel you!
Uuuuuuuuhhhhh......... Kelbi deershot + Awaken, blast damage all the way to the end, you can easily defeat It alone. That doesn't look anything hard In comparison to this video tbh, In which the guy was In constant death match.
@@emishimaru-sama6449 each time blast deals damage the monster gradually gains immunity to it, so kelbi bow is not suitable for those with high HP, such as Jhen, Dire Miralis, Jojo Brachy, etc... But regardless of existence of blast type weapons it is true that beating Jhen from MH3 is more of a challenge than doing the same to the one from MH3G/U.
@@ザイオンブロッコリー uh, remember blast was first Introduced In MH3U as "Slime", and that *It was busted* It was quite the controversy back then. If not wrong, Kelbi's first charge's shot was spread level 3, with like 6 bullets at once, and whenever It landed slime with It, It was something like 350 slime each bullets (350 x 6 = 2100 slime Inflicted ), so It was quite broken.
never had access to multiplayer so I had to solo litterally everything Its not fun but at the same time its the most rewarding thing ever knowing that it was all you Edit:Didnt realise the one in tri was harder than mh3u was commenting before video lol
Fighting Jhen when I was a kid is one of the last times I remember feeling truly happy. The contortionist speedrunner strats needed to clear this quest solo make perfect sense to me because (imo) you’ve basically going into the fight with 3 arms tied behind your back. I think the thing that made me enjoy this fight so much was its ability to turn strangers from the hub into comrades in arms. Maybe I just got lucky with lobbies, but it seemed like everyone always had an important role to play in the fight. A would take the ballista and have the Binder ready, B and C would be running like hell getting ammo for the cannons, and D (usually a veteran of the PS2 games or FU) would be going beast mode with bombs, perfect timed melee, and she’d never miss a Dragonator shot. There was just this thrill whenever someone would get a last-second gong to stop a body slam, it felt like getting away with something against the rules (even though everything was obviously intended). And there was like this unspoken trust if you were the man on gong duty, or if you got to the Dragonator first - none of us noobs had beat it first try, so everybody knew the consequences of messing up if you were in the hot seat. The combination of those “high stakes” with the quest being, honestly, not mechanically difficult for a party of four, was such a great recipe for old-school online gaming fun.
"Last time [you] remember being truly happy" huh? Life sucks man, I hope things start looking up for ya. I hope they start looking up for me too, for that matter...
been a year and I hope you've found some happiness recently. Life changes but it was always hard. We used to be able to live with the difficulty and ignore it, because we were younger and didn't know how bad things really are. They've always been like that.
for those wondering monster hunter jazz was an official project by capcom across two albums the first was done by zac zinger and the other was done by the composers of the series
"If there's a quest you can't clear right away in Monster Hunter, you can change up your tatics and strategize. Change your weapon and armor set, bring different itens with you, or come to an understanding of monsters movements so you can effectively deal with it. In the end, your technique as a hunter is the ultimate deciding factor!" Nice work to figured out!
I remember I really wanted the seregios LBG, HBG, SnS, and bow from MH4U. Had to grind soooooo much. But by the time I was done, I was disrespectful. Sharpening my weapon between his feet, healing, and just generally being up his ass with damage.
I am so happy they've added HP scaling in the newer games based on how many players are present. Super interesting to think about this and other hunts that are exponentially harder in the present day because of the game assuming you've got the damage output of four people!
@@julianadams3710 I preferred when HP didn’t scale because: (1) barring special conditions (Hyper, 140GQ, etc.), the HP pools of monsters in most Guild quests were actually reasonable to solo; with speed runners taking about 5-10 minutes while only low skill players reached beyond the 20+ minute mark (2) when you bring extra hunters, it should ease the burden but HP scaling often made fights harder since if even one player doesn’t carry their weight, it basically turns the monster into a HP-sponge for the other players (3) In addition to that, it actually made solo hunting more viable since most monsters now had Village Quest tier HP
Actually it is quite possible to use the Dragonator 3 times on that quest, and break its left tusk faster. I did it twice back in the day; still, it requieres a godlike timing.
A core virtue of being a hunter is perseverance. Congrats! Also, as a fiver playing through the past games, it's super entertaining to watch these videos, keep it up!
Well done my guy. This reminds me when I got to "The Troublesome Pair" quest in the Original Monster Hunter on PS2 after the servers were shut down, which made me square off against high rank boosted Rathalos and Rathian in nothing but low rank gear. The tenseness of it all is maddening, particularly with that timer ticking down bit by bit. Bask in your achievement, you've certainly earned it. Also, here is a tip that (if true) will help you in fighting tanky monsters: Large Barrel Bombs are apparently damage multipliers, and hitting them right on the edge with a weapon should deal maximum damage. Try hitting just outside the model to set off the blast without actually hitting the LBB model. I was taught this trick years ago by some guys I used to roll with online, and it seems to work. (Disclaimer: I've never looked into the math for the damage calculations, so everything here could be the equivalent to holding B when catching a Pokemon, but still worth a shot!)
Responding to a 2 year old comment here, but I think the reason for placing a SBB or weapon hit outside of the range of the monster is so it wouldn't trigger the damage multiplier for damaging a sleeping monster, ensuring the LBB gets it. Might be you're confusing it with that?
First game I played was 3U, and I only played solo. Village Jhen Mohran was a nightmare for me, though not to this degree. I never even tried a guild Jhen Mohran in that game because the village one went so badly. After looking up some guides I managed to do it with a bow, but it was rough, especially as I was more used to a tank and spank strategy with Gunlance. If I remember correctly, I used the Ice Bnahabra bow and focused on using the pierce shots. Congrats on achieving this even more difficult challenge!
In mh tri on the wii there was no moga village jhen quest it was online only . But online there was 4 players so it was pretty easy so long as everyone was doing damage and not afk or falling in the sand every two seconds .
Watched some of the VODs from the previous Jhen Mohran streams you did and man, you weren't kidding when you said it's one of the hardest hunts you did. Great video man!
I think the near lost media status of MH3 multiplayer is a testament too how all games should have something prepared for going offline so all base content is available.
in addition to what others in the comments have mentioned about making lots of use of artillery (i remember back in the day the accepted wisdom was to focus almost solely on ballista/cannon damage until you were in basically endgame gear, because it takes A Lot to outpace that fixed damage), one other big thing is that after jhen's spine cracks break, there is still a hitbox just at the very top of the hole that takes the full weakpoint damage (at least, it's definitely there in 3u and i'm *almost* certain i remember solo guides back in tri mentioning that too). the recommended weapon of choice back then was greatsword, part because a slow, predictable monster is easy to consistently charge attack, but also because the length and arc of the overhead charge is perfect for clipping that lingering hitbox if you line it up right, which allows you to do *way* more damage than hacking at the spine or arm (68 cutting hitzone on the weakspots vs 33 for arm/21 for body). the technique you'd see in videos would be to do a lv3 charge standing at the right spot, then doing a spin slash with A to chain into the next charge while keeping your position still, i was never actually brave enough to give solo jhen a proper attempt back in tri and certainly would've given up much more easily, so congrats on seeing it through!
Man I don't know what to say besides the fact that these 2 videos you've posted are genuinely amazing, I don't remember the last time I've gotten chills watching someone hunt Jhen morhan or talk about tri. So keep it up, keep streaming and posting videos with this kind of quality and passion and your channel can only go up from here.
I remember playing Tri, and my favorite wall I ever encountered was the first wall: Low Rank Barroth. It was my first Monster Hunter game, and I failed Barroth so many times. Spent hours trying to figure it out. But when I finally killed the beast, I realized I could do anything! Monster Hunter was a great game.
Abyssal Lagiacrus underwater in Tri Ultimate was hardest for the Boulder, that and the Hero’s Challenge that comes right before it. Last couple quests for Moga were brutal.
There was no original tri ultimate on the wii . There was portable 3rd ultimate and mh3u for wiiu however .it was depressin g that they never released tri u for the wii I've still never owned a wiiu so I missed out on alot of great games from that time . I've got a switch now tho so it's ok .
I didn’t have internet connection so I had to solo everything in this game, and beyond the times it destroyed my ship at the beginning I don’t remember this fight being hard at all. So here’s what I noticed we did differently. The first thing I do is blast the cannons until I’m out of cannonballs. When it allows me to climb on his back I do some mining and destroy the cracks just like you did. I also use the Dragonslayer and gon just the same. A big difference is that when it shows it’s tusk I usually attack it to leave it weakened. Finally phase two starts and I just ballista the tusk till both are destroyed, and from there just attack it and use gon and dragon slayer as much as possible. As for my equipment, my preferred weapon is that sword that looks like a giant glip which has about 1200 damage and dragon bonus, however I believe when I first fought the Jhen I didn’t have it yet, but I can’t remember my previous weapons much. I also didn’t use sets or any booster seeds or anything, I had the black pants from the Egyptian dog armor and the top where that cat that shoots spikes, because they together look like normal clothes in my hunter. The results where that once I managed to keep it from destroying the ship, I always repelled him, never lost even once to the timer, and eventually I started killing it all together which must be when I got the 1200 sword I suppose. So, the likely reason you had such a hard time was because you didn’t use the cannons whereas I only stopped once I was out of cannon balls, and you also don’t seem to target the tusk which I’m not sure but maybe they lower his defense or something? I just wanted the materials but maybe it played a part on my victories I didn’t know about. Anyways, for me the first phase is cannonball, mining and damaging the tusk and back cracks as much as possible. Second phase is ballista and everything seems to have gone the same. So, use cannons next time.
Yes this man. I also had no Internet did them alone. Yes first few times but then I started concetrating with bombs and balistas only on the tusks, when broken i started using cannonballs. the crazy thing it worked so well that i allways fully mined him and destroy at least one back part. crazy try that dude ! Amazing video love your content 🌅
ive never played tri, but I solo'd the entirety of MH3U multiple times with a total of 8000+ hours by myself on my 3DS, the hardest Jhen fight in it could easily be demolished with a solid Gunner build + Dragonator / Turret damage boost skills. i heard tri is a totally different grind tho and i gotta respect it
A SIEGE MONSTER THAT IS ACTUALLY CHALLENGING? MY GOD I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD LIVE TO SEE THIS! To be fair it's not like I've played every single mh on every single rank, but the siege monsters I DID fight were either easy as fuck or a test of patience through the boredon of waiting for fucking shen gaoren or lao shan to finally reach the final area where you can kill them.
Solo G-Rank Jhen Mohran in 3U was the trickiest and hardest quest I've done, even more so than doing G-Rank Alatreon Solo in the same game. Can't even imagine how it was in Tri
Well tri had no g rank so it was alot easier plus there was entire lobbies of dedicated hunters who would just sleep bomb everything or beat everything so fast it was easy just had to not cart and learn from the experience.
We could never beat Jhen with 2 of us let alone solo! We got so close like 20 times. It always invigorated us when proof of a hero started playing but we were always left with a crushing defeat. Even when we broke all Jhen's parts!
tbh the "trick" for most if not all fights that have siege weapons is abuse the shit out of them, the cannons and balistas do so much more dmg than you when you get to the fight the first time makes the fight so much easier than in the video since the fights are as far as i understand it not meant to be able to do without the siege weapons when you get there the first time
@@fettgummie9685 We did it with the weapons, without the weapons, we broke just about every part, we tried mostly cannon, we tried mostly ballista, we used tons of barrel bombs, we were even decked out with the best available dragon weapons at that point by the end. I guess you could call it our white whale. All though I guess to us it was more of a wall than a whale.
Even players who played 3U don't have a clue just how unforgiving vanilla tri was. Barroth was nearly unbeatable for 80% of the new community because after a charge, he could spin around almost instantly, and it was not uncommon for him to hit you ONCE and then you can just put the control down because you're going back to camp. He also required earplug to not be stunned by his roar, and contrary to ALL monsters up to this point, his head is armored and his tail is held way off the ground. This was the monster you needed to beat to go from 2 star village quest to 3 star village quest, and Barroth is a 4 star monster. You also topped out at green sharpness by this point. Barroth honestly showed you who was boss and how to hunt.
The hardest part about soloing Gogmazios is how much freaking dragon element it took me to stack. In the end I had to use fortify+2 to get enough DPS to make it
I still vividly remember finally beating this wall solo back in the day. It took soo many attempts, each 30 minutes long dear god was it the most stressful grind of my life It was doable but dear god, did it stretch my ability to its limit
Something to know is that you CAN use dragonator 3 times in this fight. IF you time it correctly in the early phase when he does his first side slam to the ship you can hit the horn with it. It was a speedrun strat used to break the first horn fast. This was shown by Kogath I think on his youtube channel for MHp3rd, but worked just as well for MHtri. But due to the situation of doing dps with weapon I am uncertain if it's worth to use the early dragonator or focus on melee on his back.
11:14 I feel this reaction right here summarized awesomely well thrilling it felt to win against Jhen solo the first time. The burst of adrenaline, coupled with the relief and satisfaction of knowing you put in the work and you locked in and it finally, *FINALLY* , paid off. I don't think I've ever experienced something that's motivated me and given me the pure happiness that winning this battle did, and I'm actually grateful for being able to feel that good. Unfortunately the real world isn't as rewarding for some of us. Oh yeah, the fight starts to get gradually easier (or you get better?) over time in such a way that you'll likely never feel the ultimate rush that your first win made you feel, but I feel that first win is something not many hunters will easily forget.
The siege quests in MH series is basically a dps check. Not only that, but you also need to time your damage burst right, so it casues the giant monster to flinch just in the right moment to cancel its attacks to the stronghold. All the siege weapons in those quests like the dragonator are there to help you with that damage burst. So it's less about skill but more about knowlege of the mechanism and planning. It's more or less a beginner's trap... and in Rise / Sunbreak capcom has abandoned that design pattern to make the quest more intuitive. (There's still a bit of it left in the Ibushi fight, but way less frustrating) I think it's a positive change.
If Im not mistaken there is an incredibly powerfull ice hammer you can craft for this stage in the game, I used it for this fight and it helped me a lot. I don't remember spending more than a couple of tries on this fight after trying that weapon
The awakened War Mace, iirk. I used to use the Gun Hammer too and managed to solo him. Abuse tf out of the cannon and ballista and the hammer's eternal combo inside his broken spine would be more than enough for a kill.
I've recently discovered you through ur previous MH video and I gotta say, it good to see people like you still talking and covering the classic Monster Hunter games. They are gems to behold and its amazing that you brought them to light again. Subscribed!
You could've had a way easier time by using cannonballs more often, especially once you broke the two holes on the back since bounce damage is ridiculously low. And if you would've only shot ballista while he is out of reach in the second phase and ran up to him right away you can even beat him without the adrenaline/fortify combo.
@@StayNightGaming okay I phrased that wrong bouncing is the result of very poor damage that's easily outdpsed by cannonballs. Bounces happen at a true damage of less than 25, big blood splashes at above 45, so it's a massive damage loss to keep attacking after you break the holes.
I got three words for you: Hallowed Jhen Mohran using a Blademaster set. To this day that beast is, no joke, the most difficult hunt I ever done. All because of how difficult is to Kill it Solo in G Rank, due to the limited time and his huge HP Pool. I always repel it but never kill it. This guy must be a long lost relative to Lao Shan Lung: Not very deadly but so very tanky!
I don't remember having any problems with this monster somehow.. Maybe it is just infinitely easier if you use more siege weapons? I used to fire the shit out of the canons and ballistas and didn't attack myself that often (Except when jumping on him)
I'm so glad that Loc Lac is back. When I was a kid I always wanted to visit it but wasn't allowed to connect our wii to the wifi. When I got older the servers were already shut down and I lost all hope of ever being able to visit it.
I'm curious why you ignored the Balista and Cannons, expecially with food skill and armor skills for it. Used to be how I solo'ed when I didn't have friends or couldn't find a room to join. Expecially during the second phase, when you get safer (and sometimes higher) DPS using the Balista/Cannon than attacking the legs.
@@krumplin8992 Bombardier, Spd Gather, and Transportr were all skills you could have easy access too in Low Rank, and using the Cannons from the back of the ship was greater DPS on Jhen than using your weapon. It isn't until High Rank when you start getting weapons that out scale that damage. (Edit) also Felyne Bombardier
as someone who's been playing through MH3U, it's not any easier, even with G-rank gear, it's still a pain. i'm honestly curious if you're just not supposed to use your weapon and just focus on the mounted armaments or something, but i have no idea what actually does optimal damage
The Siegeweaponry does better damage if you have Lowrank Gear, but gets outclassed by High, and G Rank. Cannonballs stay good, but you can ignore the Ballista, if you can attack him whit your Weapon.
Uuuuuuuuhhhhh......... Kelbi deershot + Awaken, blast damage all the way to the end, you can easily defeat It alone. That doesn't look anything hard In comparison to this video tbh, In which the guy was In constant death match.
@@emishimaru-sama6449 Did you test that? Cause I made some Testing, and using Kelbis Lv 0 Slimespam Tactic was less effective then using a Srt around Chargeattacks, only slightly by a few Seconds, but I tested it on Highrank Monster in Village. If you run out of Blastcoatings, the Monster will build up massive Resistence against it, not to speak of bad RNG not triggering the Status. So from my own Experiences testing out the Bow, its most likely not a good Way farming Jhen, but like I said, I did not test it out on the Field against him specifically.
You mean the Highrank one, or the G-Rank one? Cause it does sound a lot like your speaking about the Highrankversion. I don't wanna mock you, but I did it whit G-Rank Gear in Tanzania and it was pretty easy. Im not sure if I had just Luck, or the right Equipment, but I think I would have made it even whit Highrankgear.
@@Sunaki1000 uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh........ sir, you don't add blast coating to kelbi deershot >_> You just need awaken skill to enable -blast- (ah, remembered It was *Slime* back In 3U/3G) and then *start spamming lvl0 shots* (spread level 3) *until It's dead.* Also remember, Slime was first Introduced to MH3U/3G and *It was busted.* Slime was like the best.. uh, It's neither element or status, but yeah, the best of them all. [Not that It's not worth using anything else, they are as strong as slime If used effectively as well]
@@flyann2 It bothers me that's even an issue, like guys....if you are gonna make us fight a giant behemoth, maybe give us enough ammo to fight said behemoth. I was able to kill High-Rank village Jhen only barely because I see repel as a failure for me personally, I hate running out of ammo so much. Also I found placing the anti-dragon bombs in his mouth to be pretty good as they are his biggest weak spot. I feel like we should have been given more of those.
I'm so happy I came across this video because I used to love playing this exact game solo in high school and this quest is what made me stop playing (or at least making a new character lol). Helps knowing I wasn't just crap at the game but that this was actually super hard the way I had to try and do it.
I found using great sword to be too dangerous while using adrenaline +2 and fortify personally, especially during the second phase. That and also there's a lack of good great sword skills in low rank, it was just easier for me to go with the Lance but I'd be down to try with GS in high rank
@@flyann2 I've only killed HR Village Jhen in 3U, that alone was fucking tiring, felt like Cha Cha was of no help either most of the time. The way you did it with lance was safer for sure. I found putting anti-dragon bombs in his mouth helped me out.
Great video, Flyan! This fight seen to be a tough to take on solo. Your Efforts are really appreciated! By the way. It was great when you Dropped by with a Raid on Twitch. I want to thank you and thank the 90 people on your community who stopped by and Say HI. We love Monster Hunter and It's great to see how many people love this series as well. It was really fun! Thanks for everything and Wish you Great Success!🎮👍
Wow, I haven't played Tri since I was a teenager and this brought back a ton of memories. Feeling helpless in LR Jhen because I didn't have an internet connection to play with anyone (now I know why it felt impossible), finally beating him with my brother's help, the dumb noise it makes when you eat something, pulling my hair out farming Lagiacrus because the underwater fighting was butts. What a game to fall in love with MH over and I'm so sad I never was a part of base Tri's online community because it sounds like Loc Lac was a wonderful place to spend time.
I feel like I'm utterly missing the forest for the trees by commenting this, but shoutout to how this dude says "loc lac", just really enjoy how it sounds when they say it
I hate to sound like I'm complaining about the newer monster hunter games but this kind of optimization, preparation, and relentless trying is the kind of gameplay that hooked me on the series in the first place. Bravo, and congratulations.
My memory of doing this is a little hazy, but I definitely remember doing it. I used to do this in a leather set with a charm and maybe 1 loclac piece (I don't remember exactly). I would have spd gather, gathering, pro transporter and felyne bombardier. You try not to use too much ballista ammo before the land phase so that you have a lot to flinch with and a full inv when it starts. I usually used bowgun, no idea what setup. Break back with bombs, then use more bombs once it's broken and run. Before land phase you could cannon it when it was coming in to the ship instead of gong or binder and just take the hit to the ship, or if lucky, flinch it. Making sure you get the two dragonator hits before land phase is essential for saving ballista shots. Don't die because the little shits jumping on deck flinch you before a tusk swipe. That's pretty much it.
The biggest problem tri had was with enemy HP amounts. It was somewhat present in solo as well, but every major monster was (or at least FELT) SUPER tanky relative to earlier and later MH games. MH3U seemed to have solved it, but I can't speak for the NDS version or other 3rd gen japanese exclusive versions.
I played 3G and 3rd portable, not Tri, so looking back, starting 4 with literally fighting Jhen Moran must have caused wicked ptsd for some players lol. This thing was what made me realize I could go further after I finally beat it in 4G and went high rank for my first time. What a battle.
I remember barely making it with a Diablos/Lagiacrus Pierce bow gun set, spending every single ballista and cannonball on both phases and every single bomb I could craft. I was ready to fail when I soloed it again in the PS3 MHP3rd port, but an ice hammer and the artillery drink got me through first try. There really is something legendary about Tri Jhen that you don't get fighting it in other games.
Mh3 in 2021, simply great: both nostalgic and interesting because i never could enter in the city of loc lac. The editing is also fantastic from the script to the gameplay and especially the music in background. I watched this video at least 7 times. About the set and strats.... probably not the best, I've seen some people doing the same repel with great sword and there was who used the same set and succeed, even with a lot of time wasted, and who used a different set without adrenaline/heroics but with critical draw and succeed as well (the reasons it was so hard for you cause of the weapon are 2: Lance has a lower DPS, also at green sharpness Lance bounce on broken spine crack while Great Sword's charge and switch axe don't, also going for elemental damage instead of Raw damage against jhen is a bad idea) I don't want to say that the strategy with the ships' weapond isn't perfect but some little hints would make things easier by a lot: First : you can use the dragonator in the second minute of the quest when Jhen hits the ship with his left side of the body, most of the times with this strats jhen tries to attack the front of the ship only when the dragonator is just available again (the dragonator's cooldown seemes almost 9 mins)... With this strat you hit jhen 3 times whit the dragonator Second: in the ship phase you can jump earlier on jhen when he emerges or you can be "launched" on him by your bombs. Third: at the start of final showdown (MAYBE, im not completely sure) running directly to jhen and attack him with the weapon, instead of the ballista, is preferable Probably you made some mistakes that caused yourself having a lot more difficulties than it should be but the video that came out from this is totally enjoyable. I can't wait to get mh3 working online on my wii to complete the same siege in solo... last time i felt excited for a siege was with pursuit level 1 kulve taroth in mhw: it is very hard in solo, the monster has a very good look and it's moveset is totally not annoying.
This is just - a wow. I am currently trying to get 100% completion on MHF1 and be just like you hardcore solo players in the future. There were plenty of moments where I had to do difficult (easy compared to what you guys do), and the feeling of finally getting it right is one of a kind. Good job out there! Also wish if somebody told me the name for the music piece used there ^v^ It slaps amazing
I still have that hyperventilating kind of tension when i remember seeing jho for the first time and his surprise attendance on every hunts. That was my wall when i started in 3u
This video reminded me why i stopped doing guild quest in MHFU after killing the guild version of Ghen Gaoren. The monster has so much HP (making even the village fight really hard), plus the stupid tremor and stagger things that the legs would do. The only saving grace of that fight is that you can stagger him a lot, one stagger per leg after 3 cracks. Still remember when i killed it, having the flu, in my bed, doing attempts since i didnt have anything else to do. Jumped of joy from the bed. I even forgot i was crazy ill.
I loved Tri back in it's hayday. I once soloed low rank Jhen with my main using a fully upgraded Ala LS with attack (Med) and Ele boost skills and when it got to 2 mins left, it finally died and I just sat there for a moment stunned and asked myself "How much health does this thing even have?" Good times, great game, hope and pray they turn online back on someday.

(Although a fully charged GS strike to these zones won't bounce, as mentioned earlier, so it can be satisfying to set up shop in there, too.)
Not to take away from your achievement though. You did it the hardest way possible and succeeded. I have played every monster hunter game since the first and always ran solo, so trust me when I feel your pain and pride in getting over a personal hurtle, and doing it your own way.
Exactly, the whole video I was thinking to myself why doesn't he just use lbg/hbg and more balista/canon

Same. Was also questioning why he wasnt abusing the canons

@@emishimaru-sama6449 each time blast deals damage the monster gradually gains immunity to it, so kelbi bow is not suitable for those with high HP, such as Jhen, Dire Miralis, Jojo Brachy, etc...

When it came time for 1st Dragonater, if it wasn't me on point I'd stand beside and a little behind and do that Cheering emote.

Holy fuck, there would be so much less pain in G rank quests in MHFU. Everything is so goddamn tanky
Unfortunately it doesn’t do much for safi at all.
I myself dont like that
@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 why not? Do you like fighting massively inflated HP sponges?
@@julianadams3710 I preferred when HP didn’t scale because:
(1) barring special conditions (Hyper, 140GQ, etc.), the HP pools of monsters in most Guild quests were actually reasonable to solo; with speed runners taking about 5-10 minutes while only low skill players reached beyond the 20+ minute mark
(2) when you bring extra hunters, it should ease the burden but HP scaling often made fights harder since if even one player doesn’t carry their weight, it basically turns the monster into a HP-sponge for the other players
(3) In addition to that, it actually made solo hunting more viable since most monsters now had Village Quest tier HP
super informative for the uninitiated + good tension building and capturing the sheer difficulty of the fight. you made a good video and you know it
Actually it is quite possible to use the Dragonator 3 times on that quest, and break its left tusk faster. I did it twice back in the day; still, it requieres a godlike timing.
Good times, I remember carting from trading damage from Jhens frontal attack cuz the dragonator would refresh late
I'm loving these Tri video. Really a blast from the past, such good times. Those track remixes are nice too
A core virtue of being a hunter is perseverance.
I remember my dad doing this solo back in the day for a solid week it was insane. Great job!

in addition to what others in the comments have mentioned about making lots of use of artillery (i remember back in the day the accepted wisdom was to focus almost solely on ballista/cannon damage until you were in basically endgame gear, because it takes A Lot to outpace that fixed damage), one other big thing is that after jhen's spine cracks break, there is still a hitbox just at the very top of the hole that takes the full weakpoint damage (at least, it's definitely there in 3u and i'm *almost* certain i remember solo guides back in tri mentioning that too). the recommended weapon of choice back then was greatsword, part because a slow, predictable monster is easy to consistently charge attack, but also because the length and arc of the overhead charge is perfect for clipping that lingering hitbox if you line it up right, which allows you to do *way* more damage than hacking at the spine or arm (68 cutting hitzone on the weakspots vs 33 for arm/21 for body). the technique you'd see in videos would be to do a lv3 charge standing at the right spot, then doing a spin slash with A to chain into the next charge while keeping your position
still, i was never actually brave enough to give solo jhen a proper attempt back in tri and certainly would've given up much more easily, so congrats on seeing it through!
Man I don't know what to say besides the fact that these 2 videos you've posted are genuinely amazing, I don't remember the last time I've gotten chills watching someone hunt Jhen morhan or talk about tri. Attacking his crack as much as possible is definitely what got you that W
I was thinking the same thing. I soloed this fight with much less optimal gear and strategy and I don't remember having any trouble at all.
ive never played tri, but I solo'd the entirety of MH3U multiple times with a total of 8000+ hours by myself on my 3DS, the hardest Jhen fight in it could easily be demolished with a solid Gunner build + Dragonator / Turret damage boost skills. i heard tri is a totally different grind tho and i gotta respect it
A SIEGE MONSTER THAT IS ACTUALLY CHALLENGING? MY GOD I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD LIVE TO SEE THIS!
To be fair it's not like I've played every single mh on every single rank, but the siege monsters I DID fight were either easy as fuck or a test of patience through the boredon of waiting for fucking shen gaoren or lao shan to finally reach the final area where you can kill them.
In 4U Dalamadur and Gog are pretty good siege monsters. Not the most challenging, but really cool and interesting fights!
So nice, I hope you pump out more Tri content, it was where I started and it's a joy to see these!
I NEED that tutorial man, great video btw im really liking the heavily edited style with these monhun videos
This reminds me so much of soloing Gogmazios; the time limit’s really your biggest enemy in both quests, haha
Yes honestly! Something about quests that nearly reach the end of the timer that get your heart pumping for real!!
@@flyann2 definitely- and the feeling of eventually managing to complete the quest is always amazing!
how about now ? it seems newer mh game timer is a joke
The hardest part about soloing Gogmazios is how much freaking dragon element it took me to stack. In the end I had to use fortify+2 to get enough DPS to make it
I still vividly remember finally beating this wall solo back in the day. It took soo many attempts, each 30 minutes long dear god was it the most stressful grind of my life
It was doable but dear god, did it stretch my ability to its limit
God i remember doing this current content. I felt like a badass having his set
Breaking the horns with the ballista help greatly with damage
Third Gen was no joke. 3U still has the one monster I have never killed: the giant green Plessy in "A Father and Son Outing".
Don't bring that back up...that was hell
yeah this was a terrible mission
Subscribed!
It's good to know that I'm not the only one that thought this was impossible to solo. Even in 3u I had to optimize as best as possible just to repel
Loved doing Jhen on tri back in the day. Has been forever. Failed my first few because I had no idea what I was doing lol. Good memories.
You could've had a way easier time by using cannonballs more often, especially once you broke the two holes on the back since bounce damage is ridiculously low.
And if you would've only shot ballista while he is out of reach in the second phase and ran up to him right away you can even beat him without the adrenaline/fortify combo.
Bounce attack damage is the same as regular damage. This was debunked well over 5 years ago.
@@StayNightGaming okay I phrased that wrong bouncing is the result of very poor damage that's easily outdpsed by cannonballs. Bounces happen at a true damage of less than 25, big blood splashes at above 45, so it's a massive damage loss to keep attacking after you break the holes.
Never uses cannons. Artillery is your friend

I don't remember having any problems with this monster somehow.. Maybe it is just infinitely easier if you use more siege weapons? I used to fire the shit out of the canons and ballistas and didn't attack myself that often (Except when jumping on him)
Fuck. The moment i read wall, the fucking green fish immediately popped in my head. That green fuk really left a mark on me
Man used an ultra meta build for ridiculous damage all to just get a repel. I'm actually curious how much exact health this Jhen has.
I guess its because he didnt make use of the siege weapons.

Artillery doesn't exist in tri from what I can see
@@krumplin8992 Bombardier, Spd Gather, and Transportr were all skills you could have easy access too in Low Rank, and using the Cannons from the back of the ship was greater DPS on Jhen than using your weapon. It isn't until High Rank when you start getting weapons that out scale that damage.
(Edit) also Felyne Bombardier
Your dedication is legend
as someone who's been playing through MH3U, it's not any easier, even with G-rank gear, it's still a pain.
i'm honestly curious if you're just not supposed to use your weapon and just focus on the mounted armaments or something, but i have no idea what actually does optimal damage
The Siegeweaponry does better damage if you have Lowrank Gear, but gets outclassed by High, and G Rank.
Cannonballs stay good, but you can ignore the Ballista, if you can attack him whit your Weapon.

@@Sunaki1000 uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh........ sir, you don't add blast coating to kelbi deershot >_>
You just need awaken skill to enable -blast- (ah, remembered It was *Slime* back In 3U/3G) and then *start spamming lvl0 shots* (spread level 3) *until It's dead.*
Also remember, Slime was first Introduced to MH3U/3G and *It was busted.* Slime was like the best.. uh, It's neither element or status, but yeah, the best of them all.
[Not that It's not worth using anything else, they are as strong as slime If used effectively as well]
Thats the old school MH experience, unlock a new hunt > attempt it > fail > rethink > fail > regear > fail > rethink >fail > fail > fail > quest completed
why not use cannons which deal even more damage than you can with hunter weapons? what about lbg or hbg?
Yes, I love that win. The sigh of relief and excitement.
I assume ammo doesn't last you through the whole fight to make guns viable for soloing Jhen?
Precisely! Even with combo materials for more ammo, there's just not enough.
@@VPT2 AD bombs do fixed damage
@@vazazell5967 Well that kinda sucks.
10/10 for music choices alone
I don't remember having a hard time with him solo
was it in Tri or 3U? this is really the only iteration of Jhen that was this hard.
@@Lutyrannus it was tri, on the good old wii
I'm so happy I came across this video because I used to love playing this exact game solo in high school and this quest is what made me stop playing (or at least making a new character lol). Helps knowing I wasn't just crap at the game but that this was actually super hard the way I had to try and do it.
Why didnt you use the GS and hit the weak spot on his back? it stays even when broken. That way i killed it in H Rank in like 7 minutes back then.
GS makes it so you can't stay in his face.
This truly makes me wanna go back and play 3u. It had some of my most favorite monsters in the entire series
flyann
Great video, Flyan! This fight seen to be a tough to take on solo. Your Efforts are really appreciated! By the way. It was great when you Dropped by with a Raid on Twitch. I want to thank you and thank the 90 people on your community who stopped by and Say HI. We love Monster Hunter and It's great to see how many people love this series as well. It was really fun! Thanks for everything and Wish you Great Success!🎮👍

Loser
With all the damage you're doing to his crack he must be very sore 😳
Wow, I haven't played Tri since I was a teenager and this brought back a ton of memories. Feeling helpless in LR Jhen because I didn't have an internet connection to play with anyone (now I know why it felt impossible), finally beating him with my brother's help, the dumb noise it makes when you eat something, pulling my hair out farming Lagiacrus because the underwater fighting was butts.
What a game to fall in love with MH over and I'm so sad I never was a part of base Tri's online community because it sounds like Loc Lac was a wonderful place to spend time.
I feel like I'm utterly missing the forest for the trees by commenting this, but shoutout to how this dude says "loc lac", just really enjoy how it sounds when they say it
Beautiful video
The execution
The style
The jazz cover in the back
And Loc Lac
I hate to sound like I'm complaining about the newer monster hunter games but this kind of optimization, preparation, and relentless trying is the kind of gameplay that hooked me on the series in the first place. Bravo, and congratulations.
Agreed, the true dark souls lies within monster hunter
You did very well. I only fought Jhen in Portable Third, but it always seemed like it came down to the wire just like that.
I always used the cannons until they stopped spawning then used the ballistas afterwards
I remember being forced to solo him when my team disconnected. I was barely able to repel him and was so damn happy.
Wow. Also that tri jazz arrange soundtrack is amazing in background
My first triple beselguese fight in MHW was a giant pain in the ass
Mh3 in 2021, simply great: both nostalgic and interesting because i never could enter in the city of loc lac.
The editing is also fantastic from the script to the gameplay and especially the music in background. I watched this video at least 7 times.
About the set and strats.... probably not the best, I've seen some people doing the same repel with great sword and there was who used the same set and succeed, even with a lot of time wasted, and who used a different set without adrenaline/heroics but with critical draw and succeed as well
(the reasons it was so hard for you cause of the weapon are 2: Lance has a lower DPS, also at green sharpness Lance bounce on broken spine crack while Great Sword's charge and switch axe don't, also going for elemental damage instead of Raw damage against jhen is a bad idea)
I don't want to say that the strategy with the ships' weapond isn't perfect but some little hints would make things easier by a lot:
First : you can use the dragonator in the second minute of the quest when Jhen hits the ship with his left side of the body, most of the times with this strats jhen tries to attack the front of the ship only when the dragonator is just available again (the dragonator's cooldown seemes almost 9 mins)... With this strat you hit jhen 3 times whit the dragonator
Second: in the ship phase you can jump earlier on jhen when he emerges or you can be "launched" on him by your bombs.
Third: at the start of final showdown (MAYBE, im not completely sure) running directly to jhen and attack him with the weapon, instead of the ballista, is preferable
Probably you made some mistakes that caused yourself having a lot more difficulties than it should be but the video that came out from this is totally enjoyable. I can't wait to get mh3 working online on my wii to complete the same siege in solo... last time i felt excited for a siege was with pursuit level 1 kulve taroth in mhw: it is very hard in solo, the monster has a very good look and it's moveset is totally not annoying.
Just bought myself Tri.
Can't wait to try out this unique twist on the MH formula
Dude you're very talented! Worth the sub man keep it up
I'm glad I randomly found this, never thought I'd find a good video on tri
This is just - a wow. I am currently trying to get 100% completion on MHF1 and be just like you hardcore solo players in the future. There were plenty of moments where I had to do difficult (easy compared to what you guys do), and the feeling of finally getting it right is one of a kind. Good job out there!
Also wish if somebody told me the name for the music piece used there ^v^ It slaps amazing
I just used the ballista and cannon the entire time and repelled him. Didn’t know this fight was that intense for people
I still have that hyperventilating kind of tension when i remember seeing jho for the first time and his surprise attendance on every hunts. That was my wall when i started in 3u
This solo run is the only canon solo run
It's great to know that my favourite fight in the franchise is technically the hardest too lmao
I’m loving these vids, post more! I’m commenting to help this get more exposure in the algorithm!!!
I never played Tri but this was really fun to watch. Loved the jazz.
