Hi Peter, thank you for being fair and honest in your video. From what it sounds like, the hard starts you are experiencing is due to the manufacturer, in this case, Aurora, overpolishing the tip of the nib. There's an actual term for it called "baby's bottom," believe it or not. This is an issue that can sometimes lead to a dissatisfying experience with a luxury fountain pen. I'm sorry the one we sent you had this issue. In cases like this, we ask our customers to send the pen back to our office (we'll send you a pre-paid label) so we can professionally have the nib adjusted to remedy the issue. Sometimes, the problem can remedy itself as the nib "breaks in," but we'd rather get it writing (or drawing) better sooner than later. Love your drawing! Yes, Waterman was an excellent choice of ink - totally safe for this type of pen. Getting your fingers inky is a badge of honor in the fountain pen community. :-)
Awww how professional and nice of you to try and save your shitty pen business 😂😬 You would think for such a price you'd have the pen tip tested for quality purpose.
It's a weird thing for me to be sent something so nice like this and then to ultimately say it's not so nice. But I just want to stay honest and transparent when it comes to things like this I guess, even if it does feel kind of ungrateful or something. I do want to thank www.goldspot.com for sending this extravagant pen and making this video possible, do be sure to check them out, there are so many pens there, very cool for shopping and even just window shopping. I hope you understand how I feel about this pen; it definitely feels luxurious and lush, and I'm sure it would be a great addition to anyone's collection, but by the time I was finishing this drawing, I was wishing I was using almost any other of my pens. I had to periodically keep twisting the reservoir piston to put a little more pressure on the ink to keep the flow consistent, or as consistent as I could get it. It was just a little bit frustrating when it came to the actual line drawing.
Hey peter, check this out. They end up having the same issue in their own video overview of the pen, the guy had to do some serious scribbling to get the ink flowing again right around the 6 and a half minute point th-cam.com/video/vjbSqF9Oe6E/w-d-xo.htmlm35s
I believe that modern pens are designed to have enough flow for writing, but not enough to sustain extensive drawing like you do. A nibmeister can tune pens to write wetter, and you could also potentially use a wetter ink.
Correct me if I‘m wrong but I‘ve heard that you basically have to use it a lot first or you can get some special sandpaper to sand the nib a bit and then the ink should flow easier.

I find nearly all modern pens to skip as this one does. The feed never seems to convey ink fast enough for me. The reason, I think, is that a pen that has generous ink flow can easily splatter ink about if you wave your hands about. To keep this from happening, modern companies make the ink flow stingier. Back in the old days people knew not to wave their hands about while holding a pen. That has been forgotten by the post ball point pen generation, so we need to relearn it. 600 dollars is a lot of money for a pen that skips. 60 dollars is a lot of money for a pen that skips, too.

Peter, I enjoy watching your videos. A note for you about your issues with your new Aurora Optima pen: It appears to me that you might have been holding your pen with a slightly “twisted” angle at the beginning of the stroke. That might have kept the slit between the tines of your new nib from contacting the paper and momentarily starved it of ink at the beginning of the stroke. If that is your typical way of holding the pen, you should notice that with use, the nib will begin to “break in” and adapt to how you hold it against the paper, both angle and rotation. You can speed up that “break in” period by using a slightly “toothier” paper while you get used to new pen. I also believe that the nib included with this pen is more flexible than your typical less costly pens. That will allow you to create lines with varying weights by slightly increasing your downward pressure on downstrokes. Bottom line: use it for a while before you form your final opinion.
Yeah, it;s literally just like a 5$ pen or a 1$ pen, just with a couple of extra zeros... Why would anyone pay such a price for a fucking pen is really beyond me
I don't even draw, and I hate writing, but here I am, watching you use a 600 dollar pen, doodling on paper and now I want to buy a fountain pen. I love you too.

Hey, Peter! Would you ever review or draw with the Pilot Metropolitan? It is 15 dollars average on Amazon or Jetpens, or whatever... I can understand if you don't want to buy one with your own money, but I just wanted to mention it. It would be quite the contrast to this video and I have heard that it is the best beginner pen and the best pen for the money. :) Love the video, and PLEASE keep being transparent with your audience!
At first, I was like “wow that’s a very plain pen,” but now, I realize how much I like how simple it is. At first glance, it’s just a plain ol pen. It’s the tiny details when you actually study it and it’s truly brilliant.
>Video showed up on recommended >Watched the first few min out of curiosity thinking it was a meme >Usually would lose interest at this point but the ASMR voice had be listening and watching while I got ready for bed and even got me to sleep God Bless brotha stay passionate
I was wondering if you slant the nib a bit on its side instead of it touching the paper more on the center under the slit it doesn’t pull the ink down the crack? I don’t know can you turn the nib as you write or draw and have it work right? The fountain pen ink looks beautiful in your drawing. I really love your drawings and your videos, and want to try a nice pen sometime too. I enjoy the way some of the expensive pens look - like drawing with a work of art. Not that rich yet though!
I enjoyed both the review and the video. Beautiful drawing. It seems like you drew this wherever the pen took you, and I tend to like drawings like that the most if that is the case. Subscribed now
I don't understand.. why is it so expensive? Because if you look at the close ups you see there are some flaws like plastic bits sticking out, not really smooth, and the letter engravings are poorly done... it is not that well made and it is made from plastic. I'm sure I can find way better quality and better looking fountain pens for under $100
Bram 1) limited edition - (perceived) scarcity increases value 2) solid gold nib. Aurora is a really fine manufacturer, it's bizarre that this pen's performance was lacklustre.
Just found this video randomly and oh my god you are automatically my favourite person Peter, you really don't look past the smallest of details and you're so nice about everything, keep doing what you're doing, cos I'll keep watching ❤
I think with these super expensive, high-quality fountain pens, you kind of need to break them in -- kinda like an expensive pair of long-lasting boots
Hi peter, was going to suggest the issue was due to over polishing of nib but beaten to it. I did wonder what paper you are using? Some cartridge/drawing papers can, depending on grade (gsm) and quality can lose fibres into the nib causing disturbance in ink flow..just a thought. Mad and honest review as always!
Oh Peter, what a great thinker you are. You think and then say. You’re so good at putting out your thoughts like the ink on the paper. I admire your thinking skills. Teach me to think

Very nice video! I wasted much of my youth trying to either find the right cartooning pen or master the technique of using a steel nib dip-pen, because I like a bit of variation in the line that felt-tips just won't deliver. I finally discovered that a good fountain pen is a thing of joy. Personally I'd recommend a Pelikan like the M800 (I share your preference for a thicker-body pen) for the right amount of flex, but Aurora pens are good too, although stiffer. Enjoy your pen!
Aeon Invictus I might give them a go if they have cheaper models. I never really got into fountain/dip pens too much. I'm just a stubborn micron loyalist. 😊
I CAN tell you the GOLD nib is there to make your pen slide easier over the surface. I use gold needles in my cross stitch work. They glide almost effortlessly through the fabric. 😉
I love the way you draw, cuz I draw in a similar way but it’s my own style. You were doing soft round lines, I like to cut corners and make mine sharp with a lot more. I subbed. Love your vids
The problem with it not putting down ink sometimes is probably due to it being new, I've noticed with most pens they usually work better, maybe try shaking it before using it
Wow I just found this channel; that drawing absolutely blew me away. I really connect to this. I haven't drawn since high school because I just did it to get someone's approval. I would always draw cloud shapes and a shitload of successive lines in my schoolwork because I would have panic attacks it helped relieve stress. I got to rewatch now to catch what he was actually saying haha.
i'm italian. When you put made in italy on something and say"this is hand made in italy boyz"people are like OMG. I hate how this is used in marketing. Just because it's made in Italy doesn't mean is good. it can be trash just like any other product. I don't know why but people judge so hard because of nationality these days
A pen like this one is more for signing important documents, such as your seventh house purchase or the purchase of several shares of a high end business, two very *rich* applications, but just an example of what you might use a $600 pen for.
Anything with the word Italy on it is over !!!!9000!!!!% it value in cost. You literally, quite literally CAN NOT pay for anything Italian without drawing blood.

Minty Graceou are you thinking about getting 1? Just go for it if you can.
basicsyphilis8 Oh yes I am in a week or two! They seem very nice.
At first, I was like “wow that’s a very plain pen,” but now, I realize how much I like how simple it is. At first glance, it’s just a plain ol pen. It’s the tiny details when you actually study it and it’s truly brilliant.
@@tonysponsler6795 hey, I just like how it looks-the simplistic beauty of it
>Video showed up on recommended
>Watched the first few min out of curiosity thinking it was a meme

God Bless brotha stay passionate
The nicest pen I own is a G2 or a paper mate. I don’t draw either. Yet, here I am binge watching pen reviews.
Is the drawing in the intro a hamburger?
Yeah, kind of accidentally :P
I was wondering if you slant the nib a bit on its side instead of it touching the paper more on the center under the slit it doesn’t pull the ink down the crack? I don’t know can you turn the nib as you write or draw and have it work right? The fountain pen ink looks beautiful in your drawing. I really love your drawings and your videos, and want to try a nice pen sometime too. I enjoy the way some of the expensive pens look - like drawing with a work of art. Not that rich yet though!
Why does he sound like he's indefinitely about to yawn
The vibe you give off really makes me enjoy watching your videos. Thank you!
I literally thought he was just gonna scribble and test it out but he turned it into awesomeness
True, I was pretty confused in the beginning but was mesmarized in the latter part of the bideo
Just found this video randomly and oh my god you are automatically my favourite person Peter, you really don't look past the smallest of details and you're so nice about everything, keep doing what you're doing, cos I'll keep watching ❤
That art is amazing! Thought you were just messing about at the beginning lol!
Did you run the calibration? Look for a small hole, about the size of a paperclip, on the left rear portion of the pen.
Do a $600 flower review next.
Do you think that having the outside end making the piston turn could be very dangerous of spilling ink out the pen when put in a bag or whatever ...
I think with these super expensive, high-quality fountain pens, you kind of need to break them in -- kinda like an expensive pair of long-lasting boots
Could be
That's certainly true if you use a good fountain pen for writing. It might be even more so for drawing.
Good drawing, Peter.
This probably the most authentic review in the history of the internet. On any product.
1:07 When I open a pack of Yu Gi Oh cards
Are disposable fountain pens any good to start out with? Or should I try something else starting out?
with all respect, but the blue plastic i assume looks really cheap.
Probably resin or something
Hi peter, was going to suggest the issue was due to over polishing of nib but beaten to it. I did wonder what paper you are using? Some cartridge/drawing papers can, depending on grade (gsm) and quality can lose fibres into the nib causing disturbance in ink flow..just a thought. Mad and honest review as always!
Hey can I borrow a pen to do my my notes
F*ck off Austin I won't lend you my pen, you already lost my car!!!!!!!!
Jamyl Hurtado lmao
Oh Peter, what a great thinker you are. You think and then say. You’re so good at putting out your thoughts like the ink on the paper. I admire your thinking skills. Teach me to think
Petab should I get a fountain pen?
ooh no i.imgur.com/wO68AYX.jpg
Peter Draws are you.......
An imgurian??!!
On a serious note, if you want to get in to fountain pens, a great starter pen is the Pilot Metropolitan.
I'm not an "imgurian" I just use imgur to host images sometimes
+1 for the Pilot Metro, but also if you want an even more affordable option the Platinum Preppy is also a good choice and gets the job done just as well
I find it very relaxing watching you draw perfect lines and create such beautiful art. I'd love to see more of that kind of thing.
Dang is this a new personality of The Horde from Split, looks like James Macavoy with a Bob Ross wig
Looking for a James McAvoy comment. Man has similar facial features and expressions
How do you prevent smudging the ink with your hand while drawing? Is it just the quality of the ink?
First video im watching of yours
first impression
your a maniac
i love it

Peter has the only normal voice that comes close to being a natural asmr God, and does even have to whisper.

Nice
Very nice video! I wasted much of my youth trying to either find the right cartooning pen or master the technique of using a steel nib dip-pen, because I like a bit of variation in the line that felt-tips just won't deliver. I finally discovered that a good fountain pen is a thing of joy. Personally I'd recommend a Pelikan like the M800 (I share your preference for a thicker-body pen) for the right amount of flex, but Aurora pens are good too, although stiffer. Enjoy your pen!
For 600 dollars that thing better be made out of adamantium.
Aeon Invictus that's what I'm saying! How you gonna charge 600 dollars for something as cheap as plastic!
Aeon Invictus I might give them a go if they have cheaper models. I never really got into fountain/dip pens too much. I'm just a stubborn micron loyalist. 😊
except the part that's gold, you mean?
Wouldn't adamantium be too strong? Is it flexible enough to write with?
@@austintrigloff9562 I think he means for the body and obviously he was joking about the adamantium part
I CAN tell you the GOLD nib is there to make your pen slide easier over the surface. I use gold needles in my cross stitch work. They glide almost effortlessly through the fabric. 😉
I was watching a JoJo piano tutorial, how did I get here?
Also same like how
sono chino pen review
KaeShirA oh my god I love this
You were expecting a JoJo related recommendation, but it was me youtube algorithm!
I don’t know about anyone else but this video is pure ASMR!!
You're the napoleon dynamite/ Bob Ross of youtube art. Lol i love it. Subbed!
OMG DUDE A VID OVER 10 MINS WITHOUT HALF THE VIDEO BEING ADS! I’m subscribing
I love the way you draw, cuz I draw in a similar way but it’s my own style. You were doing soft round lines, I like to cut corners and make mine sharp with a lot more. I subbed. Love your vids
When you do these drawings, do you have an end in sight, or do you let the pen take the lead?
He looks just like a doctor and sounds like one too😂
He looks like Crainer
Most doctors aren't mouth breathers. . . .creepy.
He sounds like a young James Spader, who would later become old James Spader and a TV doctor.
It really is a sign of a true artist when your hands are caked in part of your art form
so if it is 600$, then it must be 6000 times better than a 0.5$ one, right?
no pen price doesn't scale, a 600$ pen is roughly 5 times better than a .5$ one.
Real gangsters spread the mustard with an index finger instead of dirtying a knife. Peter Confirmed.
$600 for a pen that does the same job as a pen that costs $50 is crazy.
Curious what your top $ pen expenditure is, or perhaps would be if you saw something that was a "must have" in your collection. Luv yer show, thanks!
I have this pen and I only use it to sign checks. :D
The problem with it not putting down ink sometimes is probably due to it being new, I've noticed with most pens they usually work better, maybe try shaking it before using it
Lmao you really just watched a review of a pen
Josh Zaragoza You are attacking r/foutnainpen, r/pens, and r/mechanicalpencils in 10 words
Air_ r/ihavereddit
I love pens, so yes
I don't even draw
And I learned that this pen isn't $500 better than comparable pens, and in fact may not draw lines as well. Your point, worm?
have you ever used some Lamy pens? They are my favorite pens, the 20€ Lamy Safari pen feels like a 100€ pen i bought from amazon a while a go
*sell me this pen*
Graphite I love Chinese fountain pens and sometimes they’re even better than some of the more famous brands for less than $5
@@air_ that's indeed my point.
A pen like this one is more for signing important documents, such as your seventh house purchase or the purchase of several shares of a high end business, two very *rich* applications, but just an example of what you might use a $600 pen for.
Rich people buy $600+ pens to sign fat cheques
What's next on the menu I got a big fat booty to attend to
600 ain't shit mayn calle when you get a $6000 pen now that will sign some phat cheques
I love how there is some education underneath all this comedy. Well done on another great video. You have a great talent and it’s not just with art!!
Anything with the word Italy on it is over !!!!9000!!!!% it value in cost. You literally, quite literally CAN NOT pay for anything Italian without drawing blood.
Peter, randomly was recommended here. Love it. Subscribed.
This guy is just scribbling on some paper, that’s hardly a “drawing”
*5 minutes later*
Whoa...
Do you just draw as you go. Or do you have a design planned out beforehand
That drawing would be a mad back tattoo 😮
Peter you are an actual cure for my depression and i thank you for that
Oooh well screw what I was watching just now. Peter upload is more important lol
I was watching Andrew Huang, but clicked to this... F A S T!
Ibrahim Farooqui I was actually watching a documentary of one of my favorite artists Escher lol
That was a bigger sacrifice :p Have a good day!
Ibrahim Farooqui ahaha well Escher will always be on TH-cam. Lmao
Ibrahim Farooqui you as well ❤️
So have you send the pen back and received a new one yet? Im curious to see if that one wont fail!
