- This video we take the process a bit slower. We are just going to show the best way we use to inlay stones that may not all be the same size. From larger pieces to small dust, we use a few different methods here.

I don't make this type of jewelry, but I find the process fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic
Thank you!
I really appreciate the time you take to explain what you're doing and how it works! I make resin dice and have recently taken to doing gemstone inlay with the dice, and your videos have been one of the only resources I've come across that explains the process in a way that's transferable to work with dice vs. rings.
So great to hear! Thank you for the nice comment and for watching!
beautiful rings! informative. :o)
Thank you Pat!
Very sleek!!
Thankyou!
I never thought to 3d print a mandrel holder. I should design my own to hold my mandrels from Patrick Adair.
The rings look beautiful.
Yeah they are simple enough and make working on the ring so easy! And with the little catch at the bottom you don't lose material that falls off.
Wow cool looks amazing. Say how would you make a inlay ring with epoxy resin not uv epoxy resin but epoxy resin?
I have not actually made a ring with normal epoxy. I would guess either some sort of mold to hold the resin inside the channel, or a slow turn.
@@DreamwoodRings oh okay sweet thanks 😊 👍
@@vincentlekei1969 of course! Thanks for watching. 😁
Hi I am making a ring with my dogs hair. Do you recommend to stick the hair onto the ring with super glue and then pour epoxy resin onto the hair?
I have never personally done something with hair or fur. However I think you have the right idea! A thin layer of glue, followed by hair to have it stick, then finish off with resin over top of it all!
What kind of glue did you use initially for the large pieces? Thick CA? Thin CA? Thanks.
For the big pieces I use a thick CA. Just a tiny amount.
My 10/12 mandrel is now in pieces because I couldn’t remove a ring project. I was using CA and the ring was stuck in several spots.
Shoot! The ring mandrels are acetone resistant, so sometimes using that can help get a ring unstuck. But Gary send me an message if it was one of our mandrels.
What type of holder is that you have the ring on when it's on the lathe?
That would be called the Uni-Mandrel. Check out this video here. th-cam.com/video/Kyqia1iol60/w-d-xo.html
On the 8mm ring how wide is the channel opening width?😊
Hey! On this one I believe it was a 5-6mm width.
Nice! Where’d you get the 8 & 4mms?
They were sent by a jeweler. They don't do inlay work so they asked me to do it for them!
@@DreamwoodRings very cool. I like that. You ever fabricated your own inlay blank from stock and square wire? That seems to be the easiest way IMO. Expensive tho to practice. Doing it in silver is affordable tho, and good practice.
@@ErvinandMFantasyFootball I have not! I am not patient enough 😅 I did try silver stuff about 18 months ago but it never went anywhere. So the closest I have been was shaping that gold tube from our last gold and wood video.
@@DreamwoodRings yeah I remember, I talked to you about the RioGrande ones. Nice work on the tube inner sleeve fab btw. I was thinking of trying 0 gauge half round wire for an inside sleeve. It’s shallow round like a comfort band and already 8mm.
where o you get the gold blanks
We make them. Send us a message of what you need and I can happily give you a quote. mydreamwoodrings@gmail.com
What is that ring holder on your lathe?
We are using either a centering ring mandrel called unimandrel or standar expanding ring mandrel.
How long did it take to learn this craft? How much equipment is necessary? I’m interested in learning how to do this.
Hey! We started super small on wood rings. Using a drill, some sand paper, and BSI CA glue with wood veneers. The ideal set up would be a lathe and some ring mandrels to hold rings on your lathe, with some tools. Maybe around $400. I should set up a video of everything needed for ring making. :D
I would also love to see this :)
please do the video!
Carbon fibre mandrel and holder
When I use the carbide tool it knocks big chunks out and sometimes even the whole thing! Does that ever happen to you? Am I doing something wrong?
I’m not a lathe expert but it seems to me that perhaps your carbide tool isn’t sharp enough or you are going in too fast and hard.
Yeah, I think @goilo is right! You need to get a slow good tempo going depending on your material.
What type of lathe do you use?
Have the equivalent of a PM 1022V as well as a jet 1221vs
Hi , i would like to make two custom rings , soupy sell the material ?
Hi there! Yes we sell all the supplies here. shopdreamwood.com/
what type of glue /sealant are you using?
We use BSI thin CA for the inlay, and BSI thin flex for the finish.
Hi,
Do you mind posting picture of the glue/sealant you use? I searched it up and see there’s some different colors of BSI, and If you can do it I will really appreciate it. Thank you very much!!
Where can I get one of these?!
We can set up a custom order for you. Email us at info@dreamwoodshop.com
Do you have a file for the 3D printed holder?
Thanks for watching! We currently are not offering the file for sale.
What is that glue?
We use a CA glue, either medium or thin.
If I sent you a ring could you add the turquoise for me? I want to add it to an initial ring.
Definitely so. Send us an email a info@dreamwoodshop.com !
Solid gold or gold plated?
These are solid gold!
@@DreamwoodRings nicely done sir
@@kfed5578 Thank you!
You mean solid gold tungsten? So the gold won't scratch off?
