I like that it is large but not cumbersome. I can't stand to see a large breed that has been bred into decrepitude or deliberately for a deformation that ends up becoming a problem for the dog to live with. And don't even get me started about cats with mismatched legs that cause a problem for cats so that they have to hop to get around! Anyway, 15 years. Wow!
I absolutely love the guarding breeds and that they have what I call The Three I's. Instinct, Intuition, Intelligence to discern whether action is necessary, or patience and time. These dogs don't need a lot of training, they just need to learn some manners and some absolutes that you will not tolerate going unheeded, like Stop, Drop it, Leave it, Stay, "Mine!" [ said slowly with a little bit of a growl 'n a grumble means that if I put my hand on it or point to it, or even slap it (sofa, snake, table, tarantula, easy chair, scorpion) and say it, better not touch it, which means I can set my food down and know that mine will still be there and the sofa won't be destroyed if I leave because the dog won't touch it. And I don't know what magic I have, but when I say "stay and be good, girl/boy/doggie" as I leave out the door, my dogs usually don't tear up any furniture unless it is a rescue and it has been allowed such behavior or had been mistreated. I quickly learned that a crate 'n' chew toys works much better as an introduction to my home and my stuff than letting them be overwhelmed by new home smells, and free reign when your newly bonded human leaves you alone.

    • @Rocadog
      @Rocadog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Absolutely agree! Love the "Three I's", it is perfectly describing the character of the best guarding dogs!

@@Rocadog I appreciate that response and if you like my coined term for doggy smarts, You may like my term for my relaxed but doggedly relentless way of training, which is more organic than the Standards. I call it "Mamadogging".
I mostly do what Mamadogs do to get their kids to behave right... because she "dogs" them all day, every day, letting them know what is acceptable and what is not. So, then, my dogs simply learn to read situations, I guess, and just think their way through it and do the right thing. They get immediate praise and attention, and sometimes play (an out of the blue ball, bully treat, tidbit tossed to "go find" ) from me when they are calm and mannerly, but get a growl or grumble and a sharp noise, or a shove in the ribs when they don't. They may also get a leash put on them and have an umbilical betwixt us for 24 hours, too. I guess some people think it's weird, but it works. The standard ways of dog training don't seem very nice to me. I'm not really the personality for all that rigidity.
It's probably why I do so well with Mastiff, Bulldog/terrier/pit/Boxer types. Any other mixed blood dogs like, say Chow Chow × Shepherd, or, Chihuahua × Corgi pretty much have the same mentality & personality. Bonding with my dogs is never a problem. I share food with them even out of my mouth and hand feed when getting to know them , or raising them as pups and most especially when they're sick. So we have a good relationship and they all like to please me, even the hard headed ones. They all nurture each other if I have a pack and no one has ever allowed to bully anyone else and they learn what "we share" means. There's one bowl for food, one bowl for water - always full, Hand-feedings of raw food, everybody lines up at the kitchen door for it, and at the fridge for treats when they come when called randomly, or in from going "outside potty".

Very difficult to train, needs dominant but rewarding trainer. If someone is not part of the 'pack' it may become aggressive to strangers or your own friends. If your home is ever broken into or you have a huge farm and someone tries to break in and steal.. the next day only thing there may have to call the police because of the dead body of the criminal. I saw owners of molossus get bitten themselves because they didn't show they are the leader of the dog.

I want the dark one with a huge head with the white blaze that looks like a bear! I would name him B'ar Killer ( imagine the accent of a country hick/Appalachian mountain man of old, maybe an old timer "Murican" furtrapper back in the day, with no education, who says things the way he learned them from someone else who might not know any better then to pronounce it that way).
There was a movie I watched long ago, an Old Mountain Man, having tried many things before and since the beaver were all trapped out went South and was trying to find gold, lived in a cave, in the high desert, he tried to always warn everyone off by telling him that his dog would kill 'em. A loner, he was naturally a curmudgeon, who, do crabby to everybody, got acquainted with a persistent young boy about 10 or 12, that he was particularly a crab to, he also made a very big deal out of making sure to tell all , and repeat often, that his dog's name was "Bear Killer" complete with story and all... but the dog was a complete pushover and loved the boy (saved his life) that came to be friends with the old man. And stayed with the boy after the Old Man died, leaving him his goldmine after striking the motherlode.
My memory may be hazy, it may be a dog that looks like some kind of crossbreed to an Irish Wolfhound. I seem to remember it being brindle-ish, but appeared to be beefier than a wolfhound ... Anyway memory being what it is - fuzzy, now that i think more I think on it - the name of the movie is "One of the Men".
The Claddagh recited to you might be an amalgamation of several Disney tales, or made-for-tv movies for children or who-knows-what Saturday tv family matinee movie....

I was skeptical at a lot of the information because I don't like big dogs that have an excess of flesh, especially around the neck because I feel like I'm pinching them when I put on a collar or use a corrective collar. I don't much care for a shedding dog, or one who has medium long to long hair...
Then I didn't hear the middle part as I drifted away thinking about this idiot who has "created" the American Molossus " because it doesn't exist anymore", he says, "and he cites the Neapolitan as not being the true molossus dog that was created way back when..." and further cites some historical "facts/info" and distorts some other factoids, to bend them to his own sales pitch, whilst showing the picture of an ancient stone carving of a dog that looks very very extremely similar to the Bully Kutta in shape and size and length of limb, etc. particularly the head, muzzle and SLIGHT excess flesh around the neck (maybe you know the one from ancient Persia of a dog sitting and looks very much like the one in down position that you put in this video except for there's no curly hair at the flanks or anywhere else); people doing a Neapolitan video will use the same dog statue if you know what I'm talking about, it's a very famous carving...
Anyway, while the guy is showing a photo of this museum piece, he is still trying to sell us on this "creation" of his that is more massive, is usually brindle or blue (which indicates dilute genes and associated congenital health problems/shorter lifespan), can not walk well or move quickly enough to provide any protection if needed. It's a 250 to 300 lb dog that can barely walk, and seems to be nothing more than something to feed and something to bark an intimidating booming bark, in my opinion, because it is so much more fleshy than the Neo, it appears to be a melting wax figure of a Neo, whose lips and jowls and neck flesh all meet at the breastbone or well below it in some.
My, my ...how my mind hops about! I have digressed again! So, anyway, while he is in the middle of his salesmanship speech about how great of creation he has created, he shows a shot of that dog from the museum, and is talking about how he has (re)created that same Mighty Ancient Dog - yet the example in front of us is something NOT that at all. The dog is lumbering with each step and heaving for each breath; there is nothing smooth and liquid about the dog's gait, nothing springy, showing any spriteliness or athleticism. It seems like it is a burden to carry all of this swinging, swaying flesh as it seems to upset his balance with each step.
Now, to answer the question you asked of us, "what do you like about this Epirusian Molosser?"... you had me at "Healthy dog". That is what brought me out of my reverie. Healthy. That means long-lived to me, I hope. I have some more checking to do after I listen to this video again.
Oh. P.S., I actually found this breed information out on my own because this American Molosser creator guy just pissed me off that much, and I wrote him comments telling him right off that the "ancient molossus" was alive and well in Greece and in Albania!

@@alfredgockaj2088 Well, I'm glad you survived to tell the tale . . . And thanks for that fact I didn't find out from anything else, that they have the determined tenacity of a pit bull or a good terrier...or catch dog.
As is evident in my P.S., I do know where the Epirusian /Epirian Molossus/Molosser comes from, and I think it mentions Albania in this video, (it's been a while, am I right?), HOWEVER, I have 3 cataracts and must trust the the "voice to text 'secretary' ", and that broad types likes she just got back from a 5-martini-lunch!
Ah, well this time I missed the edits. There were other corrections to be made, too. Thanks for your attention to my long windedness, and the notice of the mistake, I appreciate it.
The cataracts can cause my eyes to be as blurry and sometimes if a word looks close enough, I let it pass, because by that time my eyes hurt too much, and I can't edit anymore of that electronic b¡+€#'s shyte-y typing . . . Although...come to think of it, I think I may have scrambled its brain due some of my own inventive typing to avoid "bad words", as I sometimes imitate or characterize hood language and hick-talk pronunciations, spelling them phonetically in my writings. Since it's supposed to be learning and anticipating my typing habits, I suppose that I may have caused a glitch in ITS matrix.

First of all you are not ancient but leave on ancient Greeks land. All you say and try to make people to believe is just propaganda. The classical age is the light of the word and the birthday of civilization didn't come in one day.when you say that someone steel you something is mean that you have or better you are the owner of this. Where is your civilization?where is your light ?

@@xristoszailis2436 breeding dogs and sheeps or kaciki istn't any high civilization.
The Epiriotes or Tosk (where today epiriotes People came from ),were called Barbarians from ancient Elenic civilization.
Epir right now the only legalicy with Greek Civilization have the Religion(Orthodox). But not all Epiriotes are Ortodox. Many of them convertet to islam to.
Now you have also a lots of Transilvanian Nomad Sheperds or Saracatcanis who live actuali in Epir.
Epir even divided in two part to the new born states (Greece and Albania) ,still preserve his own culture I mean EtnoFolk.
Becouse practicaly in both sides(north and south) , living same people.
Mostly of them Albanophon , than also Vlaxophon (mostly are ArvanitoVlaxos) even in Greek side the official language is Modern Greek.
Bos,don't make such low arguments ,we all know that the dogs Named Today Molos of Epirus belonge to Epir. Not to Greece.
Clothing the dogs with nacionalism is just the Fci propoganda. And Fci is one of the bigest Mafia Organisation in the world.
As an Epiriot i know very well my dogs and in this video mostly of the dogs aren't properly Epirus Dogs.
Fot what i sayd in the first coment is true.
5 million of greek citizn today ,are with Albanian roots.Around 1 million are vlaxos and you have more bullgarian, ponto, middle east people as well.
Modern Greek arent Elenes ,modern greek the main culture to identificate, have only the orthodoxi.
That mean they arent Elens(polyatheismo) and they are just creatures of Bizant(witch also is stolet from Latins,Romans).
Enjoy enything as you are becouse is more real than beliving in emty propoganda.
If you like Epir ,love him as He is.
P.s.. The dog in 02; 24 minut and in 04: 06 min is my properly dog.I try to cultivate the properly Epirus Traditional dog.The rest arent Epirus dogs.99% of them are at last , just bad mixture.
I dont find nothing strange that he is in this video, becouse he s an Epir Dog,but just to be more precise.

-Molossians were an Albanian tribe, they were similar to the ancient Macedonians. They descended from the first inhabitants of the Balkan Peninsula and have preserved many aspects of their culture .Moloss Dog is one of this aspects . Greeks are instead the result of a mixture of various ethnic groups and they didn't preserve nothing of the ancient Achaean culture, the Greek history begins with the classical age-
