Incredibly and miraculously, they cast the Superman and Louis that I wanted, even before these actors were part of the rumors. That never happened to me and I couldn't be happier, I'm sure they will be great. So let's see if the same thing happens with Supergirl. Since Gunn announced this movie, always my favorite choice for her was Isabel May, she is only 23 years old, and she is a very good actress. You can see her in the "1883" TV Mini Series...
She has a much better look for the role than the average-looking tiny Shipka. I still think Gunn will do better. Look at some of the female models he's cast as these sexier characters.

I hope Blue Beetle doesn’t get abandoned. It’s a pretty straightforward origin of the character that could pretty much exist in a lot of different DC Universes. Another fun superhero story with jokes, but cast is quite solid, and it had some surprising emotional moments. It deserves so much better, and would have done much better if released at a different time (beginning of summer, before guardians at least), and if it were actually promoted. I blame the conditions that led to the strikes, not the strikes themselves.

I'm not sure if she's my top pick (seen some neat ones in other comments, like Lizze Broadway and Ivanna Sakhno), but Kiernan Shiupka definitely works, I could see her in the role. I am a bit sad they aren't bringing back Sasha Calle, thought she was quite good in The Flash and it would be nice to see her flex her acting muscles even more, but I understand the decision, what was must go.

That does seem like a show where the cast sold scripts that needed the help. Not ALL of the scripts... but enough of them.
I really like Gen V’s Lizze Broadway for this. My favorite ig theme in the comic is the burden that being one of the most powerful beings in the universe places on Kara even on a biological level, and I think Emma’s relationship to her powers is a good audition for that, while the two roles are different enough that it wouldn’t feel redundant.
Broadway and Shipka would definitely be on my shortlist for Kara. Great pick!

Honestly I would love to see Angourie Rice as Supergirl. She has the Supergirl look, and has really been coming into her own in more recent projects. The first things most people think of her from are Spider-Man and Nice Guys, which also show she can manage more comedic scenes as well, but I think she’d be a great pick in my opinion
I think that Kiernan Shipka would make an interesting pick. The only movie that I've seen her in was the Blackcoat's Daughter which was a good horror movie to me. Her character arc in that movie was very convincing. There were a couple of surprising twists so I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen that movie. You'll have to check it out if you haven't yet. I don't see much if anything in common with the character she played in that movie and Supergirl, but she did a great acting job so it seems that she is a good actress with a wide enough of a range to be able to do the Supergirl character justice in this new DCU!
So far, though it was throughout the decades and by different people, I liked who have been cast as Kara so far. And James Gunn had been good at casting so far, I'm thinking whoever the official choice will be good.
YES! I love Kiernan Shipka, she's my top pick for Supergirl too. I enjoyed The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, i haven't seen Totally Killer yet, but i will as soon as i can. My second choice for Kara is Milly Alcock but i really hope Kiernan gets the role.

Really excited for this movie after reading the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. I really enjoyed Kara's character and yhe journey of thr characters in that comic.

That sounds like a great choice with a nice argument to boot. Honestly, I think we've set a pretty interesting precedent when it comes to casting Supergirl for the big screen. Both Helen Slater and Sasha Calle had one or two TV shows before landing their first film role in this very character. What are the odds we go three for three with casting someone based on those guidelines?
I was so convinced you would say Milly Alcock. She's amazing in House of the Dragon and Upright. Kiernan Shipka is a really good pick, but Milly would be an even better one in my opinion

The actress for Shin Hati Ivanna Sakhno is my pick. She’s got the look and a great intensity to her. Plus in the comics, they keep mentioning that Supergirl has a “Kryptonian Accent” that sounds Norwegian and the actress is Ukranian so if they were to give Supergirl a kryptonian accent that sounds like an Eastern European dialect she covers that base too which could be fun
Yeah she also looks very intimidating but I'm not sure about her range since asoka is not much to go by. She should be able to convey other emotions.

As soon as I started this video my first thought was Kiernan Shipka would be good after watching Totally Killer a few weeks ago.
You know, before you even brought her up, I thought the same thing in my mind. Though I've never seen her in anything, so I was debating using McKenna Grace instead, depending on how long it takes for the Supergirl film to come out. McKenna is currently 17, but she can out perform actors three times her age (depending on the actor). And she's had that ability for YEARS. I'd seen her in a lot of stuff (and she also plays a young Sabrina in the Netflix show and possesses a striking similarity to Kiernan Shipka), but I recently watched The Haunting of Hill House, and her performance in that at, like, 12, is INSANE.
Basically, McKenna Grace is an amazing actor and I need her to be Supergirl. Hell, she could pull a Sabrina and play a younger Supergirl for all I care. But she needs to be in it if Kiernan is in it.

Maybe it's because I just saw Dumb Money, but I'd go with Talia Ryder, she was also really good in Never Rarely Sometimes Always. Not that we've seen too much of Shipka but it's nice to see a fresh face in superhero movies, they're already fabricated enough that it's fun to spotlight a new person, like what they're doing with Superman.

I would say Kathryn Newton (Supernatural, Freaky) would've been my personal favorite pick for Supergirl I didn't check but I'm pretty sure she's 26 because I think I'm the same age as her? But she just took over the role of Cassie in Ant-Man so she's off the table
I also really like Chloe Grace Moretz for Supergirl she's 26 she's got experience from playing Hit Girl in Kick Ass when she was a kid but she's also got range from being in The 5th Wave, Carrie remake, The Peripheral, Suspiria remake, Let Me In (remake of my favorite Vampire movie Let The Right One In) I think she'd be great
I’d consider Teagan Croft. She hasn’t really done much apart from being Raven in Titans but I loved her in that show, she did a really good job of mixing the jaded, closed off with the bright and positive, that seems perfect to me for especially this version of supergirl. I highly doubt she’ll ever be back as Raven so I’d be keen to see her in a different role, especially something that’ll naturally be more prominent and really help make her a big name. She’s got the right look though she might be a little too young, she’s 19 now but she’ll be in her early, maybe mid 20’s by the time woman of tomorrow comes out.
Totally killer was great, I wasn’t expecting much from it, but was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. One of the funnier slasher movies I can recall this year. 10:38

She's technically Betty Brant in the MCU, but i feel like she's not gonna be used too much for that, so my pick has been for a while now Angourie Rice. She has a pretty good resume, even though she's a bit less famous than Kiernan. She's gonna be in the new Mean Girls movie musical, and you might have also seen her as a kid in The Nice Guys w Ryan Gosling. She's 22 right now, so i think she can definitely work as Kara.
I doubt she’ll come back, MCU Betty Brandt was a side side character.

The one actor I hope he doesn't recast is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and I think I probably speak for most people there. I can't really picture anyone else live action as her at this point.
do we even need more Harley Quinn though? shes so overused at this point and she already has her own anime, a suicide squad game and Joker 2 on the way, not to mention all her smaller appearances in random animated movies and games like Gotham Knights. Theres so many better female dc characters they could use, but uf they do use her they should go younger and do her as jokers sidekick for a bit again

Maya Hawke or Hunter Schafer are my top two choices. I imagine the actor chosen to play Supergirl would embody a sort of scrappiness and hard edge, while still being able to let their guard down over time. Having watched all of Sabrina, I can see Keirnan getting there over time, but much like David Corenswet, Maya and Hunter are already there imo.

I don't like a short Supergirl, but also I don't think any of my picks are tall, so it is what it is. A number of my picks are also nearly 30, which I also don't like for someone celebrating their 21st. I like Taissa Farmiga solely on nepotism because I love Vera. Haley Lu Richardson from White Lotus. Sydney Sweeny because I very much doubt she's getting a second movie in the Sony-Verse. Sophia Lillis was pretty good in the D&D movie. Chloe Grace Moretz can certainly do superheroes, and Julia Garner from Ozark can be both stoic and emotional.

I feel like I heard James Gunn won't cast Supergirl until he finds the Woman of Tomorrow director, so I don't think we'll hear this one soon... but this is a spot on call, Kiernan was great in Totally Killer. The only competitor I could name is Kaitlyn Dever, who was just phenomenal in No One Will Save You, but had less of a Kara vibe.

I would be okay with Kiernan Shipka playing Supergirl, although I think at 5'3" she's a little bit too short from a visual standpoint. I have three actresses in mind that I think would be perfect. Lily Krug, Isabel May and Lili Reinhart. There's rumors that James Gunn himself is eyeballing Lili Reinhart, but I don't know where the rumor came from so I take it with a big grain of salt.

Melissa Benoist was a great Supergirl, but now we need a new young actress who can bring something new to Kara. I’m so hyped for Woman of Tomorrow because that story is amazing! Honestly the flash movie’s Supergirl was terrible.
My personal pick would be Angourie Rice for DCU Supergirl. She played a great character in The Nice Guys that I think had a jaded outlook which could fit naturally with Woman of Tomorrow’s Supergirl. Additionally, she is only 22 years old so she can be relatively young enough to play a 21 year old. WB will also have a prior working relationship with her as she appeared in HBO’s Mare of Eastown where she played a character that has been through some trauma while also being friendly and nice to people. In that respect, she feels like a natural fit in my eyes. In addition, I think being able to hold your own with Kate Winslet leads me to believe she can handle acting alongside whoever is cast in the DCU.

I continue to hold onto my theory that, had Netflix not gotten in first to hire her for their Narnia movies, Warner Bros would have given Greta Gerwig any amount of money she asked for to write and direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Ladybird is about a young woman trying to get out from her family's shadow and make her own way in life, Little Women is an exceptionally faithful adaptation of a beloved book that she still managed to reinterpret in her own way, and Barbie is a inventive big budget IP-driven film that literally broke box office records - a Supergirl film (presumably with 29-year-old Saoirse Ronan in the title role) would have been perfect for her, and WB would've continued to make a ton of money with someone who is undoubtedly a surefire bet as a writer-director.
That's not to say I'm not excited for whatever form this film will actually take, but still - Gerwig's Supergirl would've been nice.

How about Sabrina Carpenter?
Kiernan Shipka is an interesting choice for Kara. She's not someone I would have thought of for the role, though from what you've said in the video she does seem like she'd do well in the role. From her appearances in Sabrina and Riverdale I do think she could play darker characters, but more in the vein of someone like Scarlet Witch or Agatha from the Marvel side of things, in other words more of a darker magic user with maybe some goth influence.
I know she's a bit older than Kiernan, but I think Kathryn Newton could also do much the same sorts of things you brought up for Kiernan. Her movie Freaky is somewhat similar to Totally Killer (from what you've said anyways, I've not seen Totally Killer) in that its basically a more horror version of the Freaky Friday concept, though she swaps bodies with a serial killer instead of like her mom or whatever. Plus her appearances in things like Paranormal Activity 4 and Supernatural also put her into the more darker side like Kiernan with Sabrina. Plus we've seen Kathryn is willing to be in superhero projects as she is Cassie in Quantumania and, whatever your feelings on the movie itself are, she's not bad in the movie. That said, that is also the one issue with casting her as Kara, her role as Cassie in Quantumania. Marvel likely has plans for the character going forward (I've heard of something hinted at in the Marvels, but I've not yet seen it) and filming for the Marvel side of things may conflict with her being able to film on the DC side of things. Plus, looking at Kathryn's filmography and whatever she also seems pretty busy with non-superhero projects as well, so that might hurt her chances as well.
Looking in the comments for this video, some other suggestions I could see working for the role as well such as Angourie Rice or Samara Weaving (though she's 31 which is a bit older than what you were looking for for Kara).
Whoever gets cast, I would like to see cameos from other Supergirl actors in the movie as well, like Helen Slater as Alura (Kara's mom) or something like that, just as an example.
I will say that Freaky and Totally Killer aren't terribly similar in plot (aside from the slasher), but they feel like sibling films, with Happy Death Day probably also linked to them. I think they are all Blumhouse, which might be why.

I wasn't saying they had similar plots, more that just some of the concepts between the films seem similar and comparable and such, or more like sibling films as you said. I also did look it up and yes, Freaky, Totally Killer, and Happy Death Day are all Blumhouse films, and 2 of them (Freaky and Happy Death Day) are both distributed by Universal as well.
My ideal choices are anya taylor joy, emma myers and chloe moretz.
After watching CODA i think Emilia Jones is my choice for Supergirl.

If you want some real out of nowhere casting that would be pretty much spot on - you gotta include Dropout TV (formerly Collegehumor)'s Grant O'Brien For Plastic Man. I mean he'd also be a great Booster Gold, but if you need a lanky pervert for plastic Man you really can't do any better. Just make sure you throw him in there somewhere when you do that video.
