Nobody has spawned more sidekicks than Batman. There are so many that fans have taken to calling them the Bat Family. But, even though they're some of the most popular characters in comics, none have had their own solo movies yet. So let's look at who they are, how they've been portrayed in the past, and who should play them in the future.

Isn’t the general consensus that he’s Talia’s Arab-Chinese mixed with Bruce’s white? Most fancasts I see do just go for Arab though.

Not sure when Ra's was born in the comics, but if you make it old enough you could make him an extinct ethnicity like Scythian.
Ra's is Arab (played only by white guys in live-action and generally in animation), and Talia's mother is Chinese, so Damian is ⅓ Arab & ⅓ Chinese on his mother's side, and ⅓ Caucasian on his father's side.

Truthfully.. I don’t think we’ll ever see a Batman movie with the Batfamily - the general audience has gotten so used to “grounded Batman” that if he ever did appear in a movie with Robin, with Man Bat or Clayface.. they’d likely call it “goofy” and disregard the movie.
@@firstlast9846 I hate that this is the case, the unrealistic characters of batman stories like Ivy, Clayface, and the Batfam are the best for me, Batman was never meant and never should be realistic. Hope that Reeves tries to slowly make a more comic book-y batman universe in sequels. Plus its getting tiresome seeing the same early day batman stories with Joker, Penguin and Catwoman over and over again
Arkham_Edits - I doubt he will… I mean he made Riddler into a serial killer with a bag on his head instead of a charismatic guy in a green suit, if he does end up doing a character like Mr. Freeze it’ll probably be a vigilante who freezes his victims or something.. we won’t get him in an Exo Suit and fish bowl helmet.

I also like the Jason Todd depictions in which he seems like a guy who’s trying to come across as edgy but can’t quite shake the wholesome-ness that follows the other bat family characters.

As someone who values disability representation, I honestly prefer when Barbara Gordon is “Oracle” than “Batgirl”. I don’t watch the Titans show, but I’m happy that an actual disabled actress, Savannah Welch, was cast as Babs.

Fun behind the scenes story about the season of Titans my husband worked on, since you brought up the terrible Nightwing suit. While working with Thwaites in the suit there was a loud sounded like a gunshot going off. Everyone looked around worried because there was an on set accident that killed an FX guy the year before. Understandably no one was taking any risks. It turns out that it was the crotch seam of the suit which was rubber popping as it split open. He needed to waddle to get it off and repaired.
You want more high society Kristen Stewart who also dabbles in being down-to earth? This was literally her performance in last year's Spencer. She's perfect

It’s a real shame that we’ll probably never see the entirety of the BatFamily on screen. Bc literally all of them on screen at once are their own Avengers never mind the actual Justice League.

I'd prefer we don't forget about Cass, steph and Duke though, they're much more involved with the batfam than batwing and batwoman. like, I'm fine if Cass and steph are also Batgirl and Robin alongside the others, but I don't want to forget about them. if we wanna keep it to one of each, my ideal would be Barbara as oracle, Cass as batgirl, steph as robin, Damian just hanging out with his cow in the background
i appreciate how hard you tried to find a romani actor! i do a bit of fancasting too and i totally get how frustrating it is to be looking for a specific ethnicity but having to settle for an adjacent one because we only have pre-existing pools of actors to work off of. hopefully hollywood will be able able to find a fresh face for nightwing!

I really wanna see Barbara Gordon in the matt Reeves batman movies. I liked Gordon in The Batman so I think introducing her would be cool.
I think it would be awesome if Reeves makes a bunch more batman movies with time in between. It would be great if next time we see Rob's batman he's been wearing the cowl for 5-6 years. Then next time we see him it's been ten. Keep exploring his eras and this world and make it a whole franchise of its own.
I heard they won't continue the Reeves-verse.

Agreed! The Batman was a really refreshing romp that didn't take itself too seriously whilst still being gritty grim dark.
Personally I find Jason the most interesting member of the Batfam because he’s the living embodiment of every way the other Robins could have gone wrong and to some extent a constant reminded of the rest of the family’s mistakes
If there is any justice in the world, Jason will not be portrayed that reductively.

I'd definitely have Aramis Knight as Nightwing. He is probably the most handsome of all the pre-selected actors and his background in martial arts and his performance as the Red Dagger make him ideal, in my opinion

The best Nightwing and Batwoman we've seen in a movie so far is in that animated film where the bat family fought M4-wielding nuns.
I imagined Amaris Knight for Nightwing since Into the Badlands. His Red Dagger role in Ms. Marvel was very Robin/Nightwing.

I won't argue that Titans is without flaws, but the one thing they got right on the money was Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing. He IS that character in my mind almost as much as Kevin Conroy is Batman. I have trouble seeing anyone else in the role.

Speaking of fancasting dc characters who have been to gotham, I’d love to see Jensen Ackles as Jonah Hex, although that’s probably just because I love soldier boy and now I need Jensen in everything. Josh Brolin also did a decent job as Hex in that awful movie from the 2010’s so I wouldn’t mind him coming back if Jonah ever made it into a dc cinematic universe.
Idk how you could integrate Jonah Hex into a shared DC Universe without going the kinda campy time travel route but a gritty standalone western with him would be fun.

@@shinyagumon7015 If you have either Zatanna or John Constantine, they could potentially use magic to temporarily resurrect Jonah Hex thus negating the need for time travel. I would like to Etrigan make an appearance if they went this route. We really need a live action Justice League Dark.

I'm really glad you acknowledged nightwing's romani identity, i know its not an easy thing to cast around but I hate it when people just don't acknowledge it. as a big nightwing fan, i'm pretty much jusy trying to come to terms with the fact that we're never gonna get a perfect casting for him. the options you gave were pretty solid though considering.

I’m glad you gave respect to Curran Walters’ performance as Jason in Titans. He gave an amazing Jason Todd performance throughout the 3 seasons, and quite possibly was the best actor on the whole show. A lot of people don’t like his acting, but there’s no real reason not to because he does an amazing job showing the hurt and betrayal Jason goes through.

You don't think a bunch of his common traits are core to his character, but DO think him being Romani from a single comic is ?
Especially given how negative he sounds towards the comic and the reasons behind that being chosen as his origins
Him being romani is also mentionned by Lian Harper in a titan comics.
You should cast duke thomas too in the second part!! I feel like he's been around for long enough to deserve a place in this casting. Also. I love him.

After you are done fancasting the bat family, maybe you could fancast DC villains, ie: Luther, Joker, Reverse Flash, etc.

Thank you for the ERW casting. She's also been doing a lot of martial arts training since WWS1 (or even earlier) and I'd love to see her own a role like Batwoman, Black Canary, or similar - strong tactical skills and leadership.
Nightwing romani was never important imo, considering the writer says the only reason she make it because she is bored with all heroes that mostly white and using stereotype as reference. Moreover Devin never said it was a retcon. So he is cool if he is played by white but he is great if he is played by Romani. Don't be mad when people sees him as white or romani. They are both valid
I always thought he was white. The writers never explore his heritage. I don’t think they ever explore it in the comics now.

I’ve been saying the same thing about Evan Rachel Wood as Batwoman forever, another reason that you didn’t mention is that Kate is someone who is very much in control of her emotions and plays them very close to the chest, and when you see Evan in Westworld, you know she can change her emotions on a dime, so she’s perfect for the role.
Aramis Knight is the kind of guy I would really cast as Robin/Nightwing! Just being 4cm shorter but he got the face, the nose, the jaw line, the hair, and the acrobatic skills!

So, yeah Jason's abusive life and death are nothing compared to Cass' "My father shot me for disobedience, and I've died more times than you have" life.

Jason Todd should be played by Jacob Elordi. He can do Jason’s trauma and rage but can be softer when needed. And i believe Jason should standout from the others, more bulky than the others! And i really think Jacob could do it!
Too tall, Keaton and Affleck are 6’ 4 and 5’ 8. Elordi is 6’5.

Nightwing has been my favorite character for 20 years. I am not a huge fan of him, but I have always thought zac effron was born to play nightwing in terms of looks, personality, and physicality. He might be aging out now, but thought it was worth saying
After you do the batfamily could you do a Teen Titans one with Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy?

Two things: Kristen Stewart did play high society, she played Diana Spencer, although I think Evan Rachel Wood is inspired casting. Second thing: I object to Lana Condor as Batgirl for one reason: Cassandra Cain. Part of Cassie's character is how isolated she feels, and if Batgirl is Asian as well, it gives her one less reason to be isolated. And unlike other characters, Cassandra HAS to be Asian, so like a column or row in Sudoku, it cancels the possibility for Batgirl to be played by one.
Quick fix: Victorious was on Nickelodeon. Great casting and video!

Finally decided to get Curiosity Stream for Nebula after a year or more of hearing about exclusive content, but I have no clue how you gain access to Nebula. It keeps insisting I have to pay for Nebula separately and it's driving me up the wall.

I mean, you SAY her sexuality isn’t a big part of her character BUT, that hasn’t stopped everyone who’s gotten their hands on her recently to make it a big part of her character identity.
I don’t wanna sound mean, but segment HiTops Films did about Jason being the only one who cares about poor people is dead wrong. Aside from maybe damian (and even he has exceptions if hood writers are behind him), every single batfamily member is aware of the class disparity in Gotham, ESPECIALLY batman. That’s partially what they’re fighting against. Batman didn’t break into the mayor’s house in year one because he likes the system. This kind of thinking is how we get white Knight, Joker, and other stories that horribly misinform people on the characters. If anything, Jason is the one whose least conscious about the class divide. He’s the one who guns down thugs without a care in the world, thugs who are in the exact same position that his father was in
at least in White Knight, it's revealed that Bruce pays for all the damage Batman causes, it was moreso Joker/Jack trying to gain power via making the public and the police hate Batman
