      @axlr8deathpls294 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +39

      Yeah, I don't like having evolutions for pokemon because 2-stage and single stage mons are rare enough and I like buffing mons hugely in my romhacks but it is very jarring to see 90 HP 90 defense 130 Spdef minun lmao.
      Feels kinda shallow since imo not every pokemon needs to be equal, they just need to be able to actually play the game and be usable.
      Also buffs like these are completely out of touch with in-game vanilla. Maybe if other weaker pokemon are buffed as well to the point the power ceiling becomes much higher but rn, just give lumineon 20+ SPatk, hurricane and quiver dance and call it a day.

      Yea the BST addition was wild, I was expecting at most a 20 BST buff as reasonable. Otherwise what buffs we need are some ability buffs or type changes.
      I do like the idea of makimg Lumineon into water/fairy though.
      If I was to rework Plus and Minus to be effective in singles as well, I'd just make Plus boost attack and special attack whenever an electric attack is used and Minus can boost defense and special defense when an electric attack is used (this works with twave wink wink). Oh and when I say an electric attack is used, it means from either you or the foe but no damage immunity so you still take damage from electric attacks.

    Leaning into Meganium's defensive profile: instead of Leaf Guard, Meganium should get Flower Veil - it prevents Grass-type allies (including yourself) from having your stats lowered as well as non-volatile status and Yawn. Right now, only the Flabébé line and Comfey have access to this ability, so Meganium will definitely have a niche as the only Grass-type with access to it, and it gives it some utility in Doubles too. It's also a straight upgrade from Leaf Guard, which only protects yourself from status in the sun.

      Meganium should be doubles tank with supporting moves, I've been saying this for a long time. Moves like Pollen Puff and especially Revival Blessing would work miracles for it. As the cherry on top, add 10 to its HP to give it the same BST as Swampert.

    Whenever I mess with Pokemon's base stats, I try to keep them a fair bit more reasonable based on when they're obtained and evolution level/method. I know Lumineon is a legendarily bad Pokemon, but I feel like giving it a BST higher than Milotic is really excessive. Not everything needs to be OU viable, just viable enough to do something is good. So with that being said, here's my take on these mons.
    Lumineon - For its stat changes, I gave it +10 in HP (69 -> 79) and Speed (91 -> 101), and +30 in Special Attack (69 -> 99) for a BST of 510. I prefer the idea of Lumineon being a somewhat speedy offensive threat with utility options in the back pocket to support its team. So it can still use Defog and Tailwind, but it can also deal decent damage now too and get a jump on base 100s. But I wanted to go further into it being offensive by giving it a boosting move. Calm Mind is cool, but I'd prefer something a bit more exotic. I could argue Quiver Dance, due to Lumineon's fins looking like butterfly wings (not to mention it'd be unique as a Quiver Dancing Water-type). Tail Glow could also be argued since Lumineon's whole deal is glowing. But, it'd just be a budget Manaphy at that point. Also, I'd get rid of Water Veil for Illuminate, just for thematic sake.
    Maractus - Maractus being more of a Special Attacker than a Physical Attack strikes me as odd, especially since it has a much better physical movepool. So I dropped the Special Attack down -30 (106 -> 76), while bringing the Attack stat up by +20 (86 -> 106). HP gets a +10 (75 -> 85), while the defenses get +20 each (67 -> 87). For moves, I gave it Swords Dance to potentially serve offensively, High Horsepower as a Ground-type move for coverage that's stronger than Drain Punch. and Toxic Spikes for some extra hazard utility. Since I decided Maractus should be a physical attacker, I changed its Hidden Ability from Storm Drain to Rough Skin, since it baffles me why none of the cactus Pokemon have a contact-harming ability.
    Plusle and Minun - Yeah, I kinda got nothing for these two. They're gimmicks to the end no matter how minmaxed you make them.
    Meganium - Meganium is held back by the fact that Game Freak gave the Johto starters the same stats as the Kanto starters, just rearranged. My take on Meganium is actually very similar to FSG's, making it more physically focused. However, I made it slower and bulkier, dropping the Special Attack down by -11 (83 -> 72), the Speed down by -10 (80 -> 70), while raising the HP by 15 (80 -> 95), and the Attack by 16 (82 -> 98). It can hit mildly hard with Power Whips, Knock Offs, and Earthquakes now, but that's not its main purpose. Meganium is a bulky support/cleric mon, who's Aromatherapy can cure the status ailments of its teammates. So on top of that, I gave it Wish so Meganium can heal its teammates in Singles. Flower Healing can do the same thing in Doubles formats. I also gave it the Grass-type staple, Sleep Powder, which makes more sense for Meganium to have than Poison Powder. I also changed its ability from the extremely situational Leaf Guard to the excellent Flower Veil. I considered Natural Cure initially, but Flower Veil blocks status for the Grass-type user entirely, as well as working like Clear Body and preventing stat drops on top of that. It's a busted ability that's seen no use in Singles because it's stuck on mono-Fairy-types instead of being on Grass-types like it should be, and it thematically suits Meganium. I think these changes for Meganium would make it quite excellent in formats like RU or even UU.

The reason why so many of them are outclassed is because they're getting outclassed by the mons MEANT to outclass them, but the mons that were meant to outclass them are in turn being outclassed by newer pokemon. Not every pokemon is meant to be a super powerhouse, and that's okay. Its pokemon, not a competitive shooter. Look at the more recent game's early to mid game pokemon and they're (for the most part, Nacli) not that good either. It's just the good are being pushed down by the better so they're forced to play with the neighbor's kids. Starters have a clearly defined Bst between 520 and 535 (only Swampert's BST is 535). To say that Meganium needs a BST near 600 to be relevant makes it a psudo legendary and not a starter which takes away what little identity it had. Giving Maractus an ability akin to Rough Skin that does damage on hit (but rename it to “Spiky Skin” to fit the cactus theme) would be a nice way to help it.

    • @indy5280
      @indy5280 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Technically the “skin” of a cactus is very rough. There are a lot of the micro spikes on the petals which stings you when you touch them. The best way to get them out before an infection is by using something along the lines of hot glue on your skin to pull them out

    Whenever torkoal inevitably drops to low tiers every generation, as it tends to jump around a lot as sun goes in and out of favor, or sometimes ninetails, I break out the maractus strats. Nobody expects that little monster to be able to sweep entire teams. With growth, life orb, grass move, weather ball, and spikes or giga drain, this thing basically becomes a venusaur of low tiers. It does take some setup, but the lack of good dragons in many low tiers cause it to absolutely dumpster many teams. People dont expect it to hit so hard and be so fast. Mind you itll never do anything in high tiers, but nobody expects maractus to just run through entire teams in RU/NU. Unfortunately, gen 9's INSANE power creep means this is likely over. But i love that little cactus.

    I always imagined leaning into the defensiveness of Meganium. Making its stats 110 HP, 95 Atk, 110 Def, 50 Sp Atk, 110 Sp Def, 50 Spd. As well as changing its typing to Grass/Fairy, and giving it Magic Guard or Regenerator. In terms of new moves, aside from fairy moves, give it Wood Hammer and Dragon Dance.

      I like this build, but you could give it Grassy Surge too. Make it a bulkier Rillaboom. Maybe give it Reflect and Light Screen. Oh, I know! Give it a signature move that's the Grassy Terrain version of Aurora Veil. That would basically make it a Grass/Fairy version of Alolan Ninetails, except tanky.

      @@exclamation744 Leaf Guard definitely needs a change or to be removed. Unless Koraidon, Torkoal, Ninetales, or Groudon is on the field, it's not likely for a sun to pop up.

    • @exclamation744
      @exclamation744 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@napalmblaziken the same can be said for Hydration. The point is that, despite seeming like functional equivalents, they're not. A Leaf Guard Pokemon can't run a calm mind rest set under the sun because Rest fails while under the sun. This is not true for Hydration in the rain; Tail Glow + Rest Manaphy, for example, is cured of the sleep at the end of the turn after Rest. Stuff like that is what I am referring to.

  • @Unfaux-compte

    In my opinion you need to chose. Changing type, stats, move pool AND ability is neither balanced nor healthy. For example, a balanced way to boost Lumineon : +30 boost stats in total, give it roost back and give it quiver dance. Arguable on what you give it but the idea is nothing more.

  • @HoChiPro

    Gonna be honest, you should just give Meganium Drought. A grass type sun setter would provide great team support at shutting down waters. Being specially defensive too, Meganium could tank water moves and the follow-up ice coverage then Synthesis the damage off (boosted by sun). That alone would give it utility in different tiers. It could shut down Sand Force/Sand Rush users by negating the boost and resisting ground attacks. It might even come in handy against the mighty Kyogre in VGC, since the slower weather setter wins.

    I love Maractus so much. I just wish it had sand rush instead of chlorophyll, so it had the speed boost while being immune to sandstorm. It'd also be unique since no grass types have sand rush as an ability, so sand teams would have a good option for an offensive grass type.
