Love your squares. I do wish there was a rack-it option for the try squares. My tool wall is not big enough for the mdf holders, unfortunately. Too much wasted space.

Jeff helped me out in deciding to get the 2616 AL and 1812 SS as an affordable balance on a previous Deep Dive to add to my 1281 AL square. But I as good of a set as it is, adding the 642 SS is necessary being the 1812 SS can be too large for marking smaller work at times. I will be adding it to my collection. Trust me, these are not "Eye Candy", they are precision tools that happen to be a complete joy to use. I used to handle these gingerly, but they don't need it, they can stand up to being used as everyday tools. Hey here's an idea, to help keep some of out of the doghouse with the wife, why not offer a discount on the Deep Dive item for the weekend you present it? I can hear it now "Honey, I had to buy it, it was on sale, you know, like the Spurdle you just had buy for you, your sister and mom". Yes, No, Maybe?

I liked my 1282SS so much, that I decided to get the 642SS also. Expensive? Yes, but you only cry once, and now I'll have two perfect squares that will last a lifetime...so it's worth it to me.

I have both, but prefer the stainless for any measuring or marking. I use the aluminum one to help square up a case. I learned early on not to use the aluminum one with any sort of scribing knife. Quick note on accuracy: the accuracy of the machined steel L doesn't really matter because you are referencing off the aluminum shoulder. Not sure what the tolerances are there, but they are pinned or screwed together
if you can't afford 4 squares I recommend my personal setup: 2 aluminium plus 2 steel squares... If my math is right those are roughly 4 squares... ;-)
Am I missing something here, there seems to be some "smoke and mirrors" between accuracy and usage? Accuracy (and uniqueness) is claimed against the solid stainless steel core, but in the usage part the most convenient usage is shown against the cheeks, which are screwed on like others. To benefit from the accuracy of the stainless steel core, wouldn't one have to use it like the framing squares?
The cheeks are spotted onto the core with precision machined pins. The guarantee of accuracy to .0085 degrees is to the assembled square. It starts at the core.
You talk about the angular precision of the core, but isn't what's really important the angular precision between the cheeks and the core, since the cheeks are the reference? So the fastening tolerance is added to the machining tolerance...of two separate parts.
You make a good point (I have both the steel and the aluminum, and this had never occurred to me). I’m going to gauge them and see what the tolerance would be. My guess is that it will be well within what woodworking would require. FWIW, I bought the stainless steel models because I dropped the aluminum on the ground once and damaged it.
How thick is the stainless steel blade on those? I’m looking for a square thin enough to use to check table saw blade squareness with Diablo blades that have teeth too close together to check with thicker squares.
WHOOPS! I guess I've written that answer so many times for the inDEXABLES that I didn't even look at which video you were commenting on. On the fixed blade squares the holes on 1-inch centers can be used to lay out shelf-pin holes, but their real purpose in life (at least, most of them) is to secure the blade while it is being milled square.
I find it hard to find high resolution images of the metric version. Because from the ones I saw, it looks as if you can scribe lines at 1-9mm but not at the full centimeter. It has the big holes but they don't seem to be for scribing and are weirdly spaced. Anyone has more information on that?
I don't really think we're going to do one with stainless scales on a stainless blade. There's nothing to be gained over stainless with aluminum scales, except excessive weight.
I'll pass it on to engineering, but don't hold your breath. It would be very expensive and very heavy. Have you felt the stainless with aluminum scales? Nice weight.
I just got my 1282SS today and I have to say I'm not happy with the condition it arrived... The blade is warped and does not sit flat on a workpiece unless I press it down. I don't need the graduations, so I'm thinking I should have went for the aluminum version. Again, not happy about this. Giving customer service a call in the morning...

I'm waiting for a return label to ship back the defective square, then I wait for a refund which hopefully includes the original shipping, then I'll be ordering the aluminum 1281 instead. It's slower than I expected having to wait for the label, then for woodpeckers to receive the defective square, then for the refund to process. So it may be a few weeks until the situation is completely resolved. I expected better from a company that carries the prestige that woodpeckers does. I'm sure everything will work out in the end, this just left a sour impression.

Woodpecker are about 30-40% more expensive in the UK from a distributor like Axminster. Importing yourself you will have to pay shipping, US taxes and VAT when they arrive. Not cost effective. There’s plenty of European brands making precision tools.
Come on! That is not how you would use a framing square. You would use the edge that is next to the stock and it would be right on the stock, not elevated up in the air like you demonstrated. Also the way you demonstrated measuring with the framing square, you would be measuring from 1.5 or 2 inches beyond the edge of the stock.

Finally someone knows how to make a T square. Sits right on the edge and can mark with different kinds of pencils make these very desirable.

They are 1/16”” thick

Those are how the head locks in at every full inch. There's a pin in the head that fits precisely into those round holes.

I dunno. US prices seem pretty reasonable for such good quality. And heft too. All that steel and aluminium doesn’t come cheap.

If you need to visually see the edge of the stock, you can simply pull the square to the edge and use it in the traditional manner.
