It'll probably sound.. well 😂 unsure how they count as a "food" or "supplement", but regarding medication. I guess you could try to time around, but say you have morning and night meds. Would they effect fasts at all? Not really sure about saying any kind in particular, but say in general.. I guess with the whole being digested, and into your bloodstream.. Will say Adderall XR helps with fasting LOL, but in terms of that..? Probably waaay off, but just by chance thought I'd ask..
Great and informative video as always!

I hope My success testimony of intermittent diet will help/motivate those who have a similar condition.
    I'm 53 years old female, 5' 2" height.
I wasn't overweight or anything but as I was in menopause, I'd got belly fat that caused digestive issues, bloating, and headache often.
Exercise regularly and eating less didn't work. Though I was in normal weight, the belly and waist were out of normal.
May 2022, I started with 16:8 time frame and two regular meals and a light snacking during my eating window. I didn't change my food but drinking extra water when I felt hungry. By the 2nd week, I felt less hungry at night time so I changed to 17:7 time frame. By the 3rd week, I saw some changes around my belly which was flattened a bit and lost about 5 pounds. By the 5th week, I lost 10 pounds and looked flat around belly and hips. My bloating was gone and skin got smooth and the most of all, my insomnia was almost disappeared.
Since then, I keep my eating habits as it is and my weight is steady 105~106 pounds.
I jog and walk 3-4 times a week, 3-4 miles each time in order to keep my muscles and bones healthy.
My purpose was to build up healthy eating habit and help myself from menopause symptoms.
Hope my case will help some other people especially middle aged women.

My grandma moved in with me since she needs someone with her all the time, and I gained a lot of that back and now I'm borderline diabetic. Thanks for helping reinvigorate my passion and need for this. I won't see my kids grow up at this rate. And I feel terrible again.

I did the exact thing about 5-6 years ago. Lost about 60 lbs in 7 months. I’ve since gained most of it back (had a lot of major life changes that were very challenging). I started the 16/8 fasting 3 weeks ago and I’m working back to 20/4. I know in a few more weeks I should start losing more weight in my mid-section. I’ve also reduced my refined carbs and sugar as much as possible; but one of the key factors in my weight loss is the fasting.

I have not yet tried IF in an official capacity. But I am very excited to try this on my fat loss journey. From an evolutionary biology standpoint, this makes incredible sense. Our bodies likely evolved with periods of excess food followed by periods without available food sources. In order to maintain peak form it would make sense that the body evolved to ensure that this Intermittent Fasting etc was maximally beneficial to us. Gonna give 18/6 a go for a 2-3 days a week and see how it goes!

I’ve been following Thomas (among others) for multiple years. In that time, I lost 130 pounds. My daughter died 11 months ago. I’ve gained 30 pounds. I am now back in ketosis, but for the life of me, I can’t fast for more than 16 hours. It doesn’t help that I have a very stressful job, but I’ve always had that. I don’t consider 12 or even 16 hours to be much of a fast (for me). I need to get back to extended fasting.. Bet my Cortisol levels are high. 💜

Consider going into a Protein Sparing Modified Fast for a couple of days a week. It's easier than a regular fast because you don't feel as hungry but it still breaks weight stalls. It's basically having high protein, low fat, very low carb days. You will eat a lot of poached or steamed chicken, turkey, white fish and egg white omelettes. It's also much easier to do resistance training in the days that you use that fast

I find the challenge with alternate day fasting is I diurese like crazy when I am trying to sleep. I urinate 4-5x minimum and my sleep is interrupted for the first 4-5 hrs. I wish I knew how to solve this because while I do focus on drinking a couple of quarts of water throughout the day for a total of 64 oz, I do it when I am most active and not immediately before bed.

Thanks for the info. I am 69 y.o. Weigh 165. Would like to get in shape. Does this sound like a plan?
    1. Going to do 18:6 IF every other day. Using Doug Kaufmann diet (basically Keto)
    2. While fasting, in the morning going to do 30 minute cardio then work out on my Total Gym beginner level every day alternating upper and lower body days.
    3. Break fast at 12 noon by drinking a protein drink. Can I just mix the unflavored Isopure protein powder with green tea? Then wait 30 minute to and hour to eat my meal. Stop eating at 6 p.m. last meal will be quinoa with collagen powder and coconut milk, monk fruit and cinnamon and a bit of butter.
    4. Drink at least 8 glasses of water with a T. of ACV and Himalayan salt throughout the day. No water after 6:30 or 7 p.m.
    5. 8 p.m.-Turn wifi off, no computer, smart phone or TV after 8.
    6. 9 p.m. bedtime wake up at 5 a.m.
I have started doing an hour of stretching every morning using Bob and Brad PTs videos on TH-cam. and I stretch at night before I go to bed. Question? I am pretty sore so should I include some other kind of amino acid supplement to help with that? Oh, and first thing every morning, I drink a glass of water with lemon juice and cayenne pepper in it then switch to ACV and Himalayan salt in my water. I do have black coffee after that. First cup has 1 T. organic coconut oil in it, 1 t. organic turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper. It seems to help with sore muscles. Then I have another cup of just good old hot black coffee. That's my plan. Wish me luck!!

Look at the protein sparing modified fast twice a week as well. It's basically eating a lot of lean protein like skinless chicken or turkey breast, white fish, lean beef and egg white omelets for a couple of days (I recommend poaching the poultry and fish so it's more flavorful and moister). I also found that I would overindulge too much on cheese and cream during my regular keto days so now they are just rare treats. I can get more satiated with a fatty cut of meat than with a lot of cheese. This kind of intermittent fast has many of the same benefits of a regular fast, but it spares muscle and it doesn't slow down the metabolism

    Fantastic breakdown Thomas😌👍
You nailed it with the body adjusting to fasting. So I started my journey with you back in 2017🤔.. was already doing BP coffee and kept carbs under 40-50gm a day.. but your videos on Keto, Fasting, and OMAD, changed the game 🤯! Lost so much weight so fast honestly it was probably a bit too much 😅 but felt 20 again🤷😅
The trouble for me started when I no longer would get hungry.. suddenly the amount of calories I would burn through easily with a 22-24 hour gap wasn't the same 🤔 I was getting skinny fat.. now variable I should mention is I also have gone through phases where I haven't worked out for a few months, and that definitely had an impact as well, but as soon as I would add that stress back into my daily routine.. the energy and fat burning results came back almost immediately. 🤔 However nothing seemed to knock me back into ketosis faster then doing OMAD at different times like you suggested as well as doing 2MAD in between.🤔
Hope this helps, or is of some use in some way 😌👍
Side note: I got into Keto and IF to lower inflammation not necessarily for fat loss.
Thank you for all you have given and shared with your base Thomas and crew😌🤙

The complicating factor for people doing resistance training is that ideally, you want to eat at least 30 g of protein 3 or 4 times per day to maximize muscle protein synthesis. Having a very restricted eating window EVERY DAY makes it impossible to accomplish that. But as Thomas says, you don't have to do this stuff every day. I'm 14-10 most days, but twice a week I'll go 20 hours plus.

correction: "for those who want to gain muscle". for those that want to maintain muscle mass. assuming we are not body builders, IF and normal eating works just fine. with resistance training and increased HGH levels (which occurs in fasting) will work just fine. again many variables. if one is

FINALLY someone who says the same thing I have known for months now: All OMAD does is slow your metabolism down. It absolutely does for me, no question...but it's refreshing to hear this from someone else. I did it for 2 weeks and actually GAINED a pound. I even did a 48 hr fast and only lost 1 pound. 18:6 very low carb (like almost never have breads and pastas) is what works best for me at least for weight loss.

I live in Germany, and am a post-menopausal woman. I tried healthy Keto to lose weight, and gained slightly. I kept the healthy Keto, and added OMAD. I no longer gained weight, but lost none. Now I eat Keto, but have an eating window of 2 hrs. every other day. I am finally able to lose weight. Due to arthritis, my workout is only walking for an hour in a hilly area every day. I do supplements and electrolytes. I continue to have sleep problems, even though I eat around 2 p.m. According to you I am fasting too often, but how else can I get the weight off? I notice you recommend low fat meats. I can only tolerate 1 Tsp. of MCT oil. I avoid fat bombs, but eat cuts like pork chops. I do feel as if my energy is dropping, but that may be the weather here in the north. Do you have any good ideas for me? I do 1 Tsp. of Turmeric and other spices for my arthritis every day.

2:36 “The problem [is caloric restriction…]”
    How is this a problem?
2:45 “The benefits aren’t from caloric restriction, but in second place is the timing”
This is quite confusing. What’s in first place then? And again, why is caloric restriction a problem to begin with?

I plan to change over to 16:8 after a while and follow this on a regular basis. Maybe in a few years I may try one of the 24+ fasts on a regular basis. Few points that I'd like clarity on
    1. Lmnt has maltodextrine. Will.this break fast?
    2. Turmeric lowers testosterone. Is this acceptable?
    3. Extended fasting will cause increase in cortisol which is bad for overall health and has other hormonal effects. Is this encouraged?
    4. Chicken and Turkey are very high in lionleic acid which are very inflammatory and cause damage to body. Why would this be recommended?
    5. Macadamia and other nuts inhibit nutrient absorption. In an already fasted state that depletes minerals and other nutrients is this good to eat?
    6. Latest stymies have shown that polyunsaturated fats are correlated to insulin resistance. Is Turkey, chicken and other nuts seeds recommended in this instance?
    7. Post prandial insulin spkies are normal reactions from the body and that natural insulin spike has shown to have several benefits for the body e.g. hormone balance, mineral retention, metabolic function, energy etc. It is actually continually elevated insulin after eating that is bad and shows insulin resistance. Based on this, is it still recommended to.not have high glycemic foods?
    8. It is shown from studies that keto increases AGEs is this acceptable and recommended beyond trying to use keto for a short period to rectify a issue?

It's my understanding that during a fast the body does not breakdown muscle into amino acids nearly as much as in a state of autophagy the body releases much more HGH to preserve its muscle to fight another day. Not that I disagree with the necessity for protein. Protein is always our friend

I've been eating 18/6 - 20/4 for months. Essentially OMAD. Definitely caloric restricted and very clean Keto and whole foods not packaged snacks. I'm now 80 lbs overweight, and although I am losing, I'm losing very slowly 3-4 pounds per month. I was lifting weights for most of December and I think that helped as i dropped more weight quicker. I'm starting back lifting 3x per week and swimming 1 mile 3 - 4 times per week. I'm expecting to start seeing results. I've been 80-100 lbs overweight most of the last 25 years.
