you talking about the buffer going bad reminds me of the time I was trying to find the strength of my old HCl through titration. I knew the strength had gone down but for some reason the math said it had gone up! Turns out that the NaOH I was making a solution with had a leaky cap and the moisture had gotten in turning a bunch of my NaOH crystals into carbonate. I just had a frustrated laugh and moved on with it

Well it also depends a bit on what surface you're writing on. I don't know of any completely alcohol-resistant ink that is also easy to remove but I use a xylene-based permanent marker on glass and that's reasonably resistant against alcohol (comes off easily with acetone). It's just a normal permanent marker you can buy in any convenience store. Be careful not to do what I did, though, and think you're writing on glass when it's actually acetate - acetone goes right through that stuff!

Do you know a cheap labelling system to mark reagent bottles with details and is alcohol resistant, but has to be erased and changed frequently?
