  • Nebi ("water"): Abenaki Ways of Knowing Water was produced by Chief Don Stevens, Nulhegan Abenaki Tribe; and Kris Stepenuck & Ashley Eaton, Lake Champlain Sea Grant, UVM Extension, and the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. The film was created to share and help preserve the Abenaki creation stories of Lake Champlain, and the deep connection Abenaki people have with water. It opens with Chief Don Stevens of the Nulhegan Abenaki tribe sharing stories of the creation of the Lake Champlain Basin, the lake itself, and an underwater serpent who protects the lake; many people know this serpent today as Champ. The film continues with short vignettes from several Abenaki tribal members who share their knowledge of water use by past and present Abenaki people and about the significance of water in the lives of the Abenaki people, and of all people.

    I was born and raised in Vermont but I never returned after going in the Army. It's a shame what the Liberals from New York have done to my home. The Taxes are high, the leaders are Communist, and the jobs are gone. Congratulations Bernie Sanders and Howard Dean.

      The unemployment rate in Vermont is 1.9%, so the jobs are definitely not gone. Saying the leaders are communist is such a tired and false talking point from conservatives who, like you, have absolutely no clue what communism is (or socialism for that matter). As for high taxes, yes the northeast is known for high taxes, but those high taxes result in the best quality of life (healthcare, education, overall standard of living) in the country while republican strongholds like Mississippi and Arkansas have quality of life standards that are worse than developing countries.

      @@bndergltd3053 so if Arkansas or Mississippi suddenly raised their taxes through the roof , their problems would be solved? Of course not! The reason for the low unemployment in Vermont is because nobody wants to live there! Their pool of workers is nil. When IBM left Essex Jct and South Burlington, it sucked the life out Chittenden County. There's nothing left that's worth while. UVM has the highest tuition in the country and look at the piss poor education you get in return. Vermont isn't Vermont anymore. Nobody wants to live there anymore

      @@trackrunner11 let’s do some fact checking here. More people moved to Vermont in 2021 and 2022 than moved out, so people do want to live there. It’s a small state, not known its major industries, and it’s cold. It’s the same reason people aren’t flocking to New Hampshire and Maine.
      As for UVM, it doesn’t have the highest tuition, not even when you factor in out of state tuition. Not by a long shot. As for the quality, I can’t say, but you could easily say that about any college in red or blue states (by the way, what are conservatives doing about affordable education? Squat)

      that'll happen when the state they're native to is so overwhelmingly white

    • @mrkrab4929
      @mrkrab4929 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason for this is the fact that the eugenics survey displaced the abenaki and forced them to merge with the whiteness of vermont to survive. They arent white , they're white passing and are still culturally abenaki. Blood quantum and even race is a colonial construct
