6th Commandment: Don’t mess with the bombilla. In the event that the bombilla clogs up, pass the Mate back to the Matero. Positioning the bombilla is an art that if not mastered might possibly ruin the whole Mate. In some cases even forcing the Matero to prepare a new one. Clogging may occur because of the type of Mate or because the bombilla is faulty or was not positioned right. In any case, you have every right to complain, but never EVER attempt to fix it yourself! Pass the Mate back to the Matero and let him have a look at it. So don’t fiddle with the bombilla, NEVER fiddle with the bombilla. Have I mentioned never to fiddle with the bombilla?

What’s up bro, I’m from Buenos Aires Argentina, one thing, you are putting way to much Yerba there, it should never be like a mountain, and also, once you poured water the first time, never touch the bombilla again, at least that’s what we do here. But everything else was perfect, good video, respect
You are "sort-of" doing it right...but good god man, you have way too much in there. You hardly have any room for the water. You should be able to get more than three sips out of a gourd that size. Also, if you enjoy the bitter taste, you can use hot water rather than room-temp water in the beginning. The only reason room-temperature water is used is for two reasons, it reduces the bitterness of the first cup, and it cools the hot water down. If you're not concerned about the bitterness, use hot water to begin with and let it sit for a few minutes. The first few sips will put hair on your chest, but at least you won't have to deal with the equivalent of tepid coffee.
To me you shouldn't start with the hot water because it will be too hot for the next mates, don't do that. What I do is to go first with room-temperature water, and wait a bit. Then hot water, and wait until the yerba consumes it for 2 or 3 minutes. Then place the bombilla and prepare your first mate.
Hi broo ! Nice vídeo... Thank you from Argentina. Well, respect to the cold water like a first step, is because we don't burn the "yerba" with the first hot water ! Sorry by my english ! Byee (P.d.: never touch the "bombilla")

@zenpool I added while preparing ,a little yerba, the peels and more yerba on top of peels. Maje sure you bend the peels a little so they release their natural oils.
We prepare mate very differently to this. My background is Lebanese and I love mate. We actually use a colander to remove the dust and wash it before we pour it in a small/medium size glass cup and sometimes we add herbal stuff to it (e.g., chamomile) than hot water. (some people add sugar which is odd to me not sure how they drink it with sugar). Some add honey as well because of the bitter taste which I love.
Me parece que pusiste mucha yerba, para el tamaño de ese mate... xDD Y no tenés que mover la bombilla, la yerba se va a ir humedeciendo de a poco. Buen video.

Yes there a much easier ways to make it. Just put some mate dry tea into a coffee filter cone, pour hot water through it, let it steep as it drips slowly into a cup. If it’s too strong put a little more boiling water in. And just drink it out of a cup like regular tea, I understand the Bomba thing is a cultural thing but come on... it’s about drinking the tea from cup to mouth with no middleman in between!
I don’t know why, but for some reason it’s super rare to encounter yerba mate in Sweden. People usually give me pretty strange looks when I mention mate and all its great benefits. Only a few oriental shops occasionally sells it, which is a shame.

Up to 20 times. That's even more infusions than most Gong Fu Cha tea ceremonies. Of course, so is the amount of leaf. It's probably double or triple the amount used for Gong Fu brewing in a teapot or gaiwan, which makes me wonder the capacity of gourds. Chinese tea brewing vessels are typically 100-200ml roughly.
This will vary from mate to mate but usually you can drink one and a half liters of water through. Just go until it loses its flavor and becomes "washed"
If your water is way too hot it will go bad fast. Just watery. But if you get the temperature right and pour water gently ( unlike when you pour it on a glass) it will last longer. Depends on how strong or watery you like it. There are people for all tastes
Sí pero no haría falta un lavado exhaustivo, tan solo enjuagar el residuo de yerba y ya está listo para el siguiente uso, en medida de que ya se haya secado
Really good technique. Just wanted to add a few tips. I prefer to shove the bombilla in a straight diagonal line, if you play with it too much, you may clog the little holes and the water won't flow properly. Moving the bombilla is not really necessary, but you can experiment over time and see what works best for you. Spit the first 2 mates, it's actually bad for you, a guaraní taught me this and they were the first ones to drink mate. The reason for spitting is not only the bitter taste, but the fact that yerba mate has a dormant toxin that is awaken when heated by the water, so those first mates have a big concentration of it and is best to avoid them. That's why we say "The first mate goes to the boludo".
@@danie90000 at least in Argentina, there are electric kettles that have the option for boiling and for mate (75°-80°C / 167°-176°F). That's the easiest way. If you have a metal kettle and heat it on the stove, you can either use a thermometer or learn to hear to a subtle sound the kettle makes when it's at that temp. When you hear that sound, lift and flip the lid, if there is a bit of steam releasing from it, you're good to go!
Can yerba mate cause breathing problems due to the smoke in the drying process? Because smokers complain about shortness of breath. Do you honestly feel short of breath, or have you at any time due to drinking smoked yerba mate. I have no problem with the kraus clean ones
It's kind of hard to say with this method but depending on how you brew your Mate, it can range from about 20 mg of caffeine per cup when using a tea bag, up to 135 mg per cup when using lose leaf mate. With an average amount of 78 milligrams of caffeine per 8 ounce cup Yerba Mate has considerably higher amounts of caffeine than green tea, equal amounts of caffeine as Red Bull, and just slightly lower levels of caffeine than the average cup of coffee.
@@encounteryerbamate4284 I guess I am asking, if I prepared the way you did and drank all the water you brewed than what would be the estimated amount?
All good an nice but 2 things... 1 the traditional way is the convencional way actually :P I have never seen anybody to use a french press to make Mate in my 28 years of drinking it, and another thing, do-no-touch-the-bombilla, thats a given you dont touch it at any given moment, the mountain of yerba must get down slowly, you always have to get a bit of dry yerba at every "cebada" (pour), anyways thats like the way of doing it with friends and family the best way the kind of "Ritual" way but if you drink 3-4 liters of mate a day like me you end up not doing all that, since you are the only one that drink it at that given moment, but if you move around the bombilla while drinking it with friends its like "The hell are you doing to that mate!?!?!" :P
Yeah I didn't get into the ten commandments of mate drinking really at all. Everybody has a variation of this way but I tried to give people a base line of how I do it, handles to hold onto as they're getting started. Anywho, appreciate the notes, thanks for the comment. And Salud!
@@matejaboltis9254 yeah well first just sift the yerba with a fine strainer the hand method is useless. You'll still get a bit of dust in.. I just create a filter with a disposable cloth (cut it with scissors) but that only works if your bombilla is a stainless steel spring bombilla ( which I recommend all the others are jus crap) problem solved ! Add some peppermint and you are in heaven! Edit: auto correct changed yerba with herbs 😂
Hi. I am new on Yerba Mate Team . I put about 50g (4-5 tablespoons spoons) of Canarias and then I drink until taste like water. Is it a right way? Advise me , Please. I had one kg and after 3 weeks it goes down rapidly . Shall I put less spoons? I’ve heard that people drink even 4 l. I was addicted of strong powder coffee and I just stopped and I can manage with mate . It works very good.
The healthiest drink would be water. Depending on which part in the world you are drinking it of course. Everything that is roasted has PAH in it, even coffee or some cereals. The thing is, in excessive amounts, everything is bad for you, even water. And the light green leaves shouldn't pose to much of a threat. (they still have a green color and not dark brown or black) Also, in a big city where cars are lining up in front of a red light, you think there are no PAH's there? Try and live a little, do what feels right, but do it in moderation and you'll be ok. That being said, enjoy your occasional mate. ;)
Post the initial rinse with cold water quickly, why not add it to the traditional Chinese tea flask...add hot water and drink instead of using the bombesha (sorry for the spelling). Why make it complicated ? Or is there something I am failing to see ?
Is the room temperature water part really necessary? It's been shown that hot water extracts more from the mate than cold water. As long as it's not too hot shouldn't it be okay to just use hot water by itself?
The only thing I will say is that I’ve seen a lot of people telling you not to move the Bombilla. I don’t know why, but for whatever reason it seems to be a thing a lot of people don’t do.

If your water is way too hot it will go bad fast. Just watery. But if you get the temperature right and pour water gently ( unlike when you pour it on a glass) it will last longer. Depends on how strong or watery you like it. There are people for all tastes

¡Hermanos!
Thank you God for this beautiful man and this beautiful chill session.
lol I love how his wholesome vibes are rubbing off on everyone in the comment section 🥰🙏🏻
Oooh very cool the tip with the glass to keep the gourd leaned🧉Simple but efficient! 👍😊
How do you get the water the correct temperature without boiling it ?
Can you tell me which yerba mate is best to buy please would prefer organic ?
بتحط اكليل الجبل؟؟😁
Do you put a rosemary?
Bruh quit putting these schisophrenic whispers in your vids..
Thanks for the note I'll definitely tone it down in future videos. We may have over done the effect, but we were having fun! Salud!
@ Layne, lets fucking find this hippie fuck and fuck him up.
Encounter Yerba Mate and so were I. Salud and keep drinking your mate
Encounter Yerba Mate its the best part! Great sense of humor
I thought they were really funny actually. Thank you for the entertaining instruction! 👌🍵
Great vid! what is the estimated caffeine content of what you just prepared with all the water used?
@@Tannerbsimpson123 Right, I would say closer to the 135mg level.
@@encounteryerbamate4284 how much caffeine do you get everytime you clear the gourd
Thank you South America for this beautiful drink,
from Saudi Arabia.
And Salud!
Do you still feel the bits of mate in bombilla? I can't seem to make a good filtration.
Imagine watching it when it came out and then finding out that the french press video is coming out 9 months later.
Holy shit... at which unoverity can i study the sience of mate? XD
omg I've been steeping my yerba mate like tea. How much caffeine do you end up consuming when you consume mate this way??
I'v ordered a mate "cup" and the mate leafes but i feel like this its very complicated to do it well?
Thank you for your advice about preparing yerba mate !
Greetings from Poland !!!
Great job with your explanation, you can tell you learn to drink mate because you drink it on the side of your mouth :)
No clue what's up with those people pretending they're annoyed. Best part was the background commentary haha. Good job boss
Aw thank you so much for your kindness!
I can't tell who's pretending and who's not, but I enjoyed it as well. It added a bit of charm to an already enjoyable tutorial.
I always drink mate before playing fotball it gives me energy!!!
I've also heard that Yerba Mate is harmful to the leaves being exposed to fire when being made.
(they still have a green color and not dark brown or black)
Also, in a big city where cars are lining up in front of a red light, you think there are no PAH's there?
Try and live a little, do what feels right, but do it in moderation and you'll be ok.
That being said, enjoy your occasional mate. ;)
Bro 💀, just buy mate from Argentina, brazil or Paraguay and drinking mate for being healthy is like a sin
Encounter Yerba Mate, cool video it was really good
what if you brew it like a normal tea leaves?
What’s the name of your thermos?
Post the initial rinse with cold water quickly, why not add it to the traditional Chinese tea flask...add hot water and drink instead of using the bombesha (sorry for the spelling). Why make it complicated ? Or is there something I am failing to see ?
Do I have to finish the first water amount before pouring in more water? Or can I always add water?
Thanks man. So pumped
How much mate do you put in the gourd in tablespoons?
Is the room temperature water part really necessary? It's been shown that hot water extracts more from the mate than cold water. As long as it's not too hot shouldn't it be okay to just use hot water by itself?
No need for cold water if your water is up to 70ish celcius .. hotter than that ruins the mate
Finally someone doing a propper mate!
Thanks for the walkthrough! I'm just getting into learning the proper way to drink mate and this helped a lot!
Oh good! there are lots of differing opinions of the right way to brew, this is the way that helped me the most on my journey as well. Salud!
Can I use just a yeti cup? Instead of that wood one?
Absolutely
Yeah the bigger the better!
The only thing I will say is that I’ve seen a lot of people telling you not to move the Bombilla. I don’t know why, but for whatever reason it seems to be a thing a lot of people don’t do.
{{I❤️love❤️MATE❤️}}
{{EVERY SYRIAN LOVES MATE. Thanks Argentina}}
My kettle allows you to choose the temp you want to heat to.
Is it normal to have flakes and stuff while you drink it ?
just encountered... :P, yerba mate. and also encountered... :P, your channel and i love how you present this herb... idk where im going with this lmfao.. earned yourself a subscriber!!
Troy Boy Aw thank you! That’s very encouraging :)
