Last advice about not leaving water more than 2 minutes is a golden rule. It should be written all over the package. I had to find out a hard way. Drank it after leaving water for 3 hours, i almost got a heart attack 😄
same 😂
Why a heart attack? Strong caffeine hit?
@@gboof no it‘s the horrible taste after 3 hours that will give you a heart attack hahah. I love the mate taste but after 3 hours its truly disgusting
@@gboof nah its like drinking a swamp water with a hint of frog poo and a dash of armpit sweat, with notes of dehydrated fish guts boiled in sewer. Flavors you didnt know existed all together.
How many brews can you get from the leaves before you toss them?
If you make a shirt that said “Hands off the bombilla” I’d totally buy it!!! 😊
Best instruction I've seen. Thanks!
This overwhelms me. I feel like I have to think really hard to do this properly.
Take your time 😊
Great guide, super useful!
Thank you Justin! Don't hesitate if you have any other questions about Yerba Mate, we'll answer your question right here on YT! 😄
Great points, thanks, I don't do it for the process, I do it for the buzz 😊✌️
Awesome, I had given up a long time ago trying to do this because I hate drinking all the dust. Let’s see if we can make this stick 😈
I have a good temp adjustable kettle and it's a lifesaver for Mate. I've been using Guayaki (I'm sorry, I never heard of your brand before 😢) but I placed an order and am eager to try yours.
Oh yeah, absolutely worth it! Share your thoughts after giving it a try. Cheers Matero!
@@mateinayerbamate I thought you guys were blowing smoke. But this is the best loose leaf Mate I've had. It tastes clean (idk how to describe it but you know what I mean). Never going back to Guayaki 😂
If the peach RTDs are good, I'll just direct deposit my paycheck lol
There is actually a filter like a glove type to cover the filter to prevent the dust from the leaf to clog the bombilla😊
0:24 good marketing lol😂
Why is it the best
Very well-done! So cool. I still wondering why nobody suggests to put sugar on it (this is for the people that like sweeter than bitter), it is an option too. And here in Argentina we drink it both :)
Would putting honey in it be frowned upon? Or maybe mixing honey in the hot water so its already mixed?
i might be kinda late to the game but my question is important. HOW OFTEN can you refill that water until you have to throw out the mate herbs ?
Hey! Never late to the game. You can refill as much as you want. The Yerba Mate will be less strong each time you refill.
you keep on refilling water until it no longer gains taste from the leaves, and just tastes like regular hot water
Is adding Lemon a good idea?
@@shahidalakhani9486 some people add other herbs, you could try adding tiny lemon peels, mint leaves, and others.
2:58 you mean to leave a first half dry of a mug verticaly divided or horizontaly? I'm new here, so sorry for silly question
Hey! When adding water to the gourd, fill it almost to the top each time. Since you're pouring water into the same spot repeatedly, some leaves at the top may remain dry. To ensure even hydration, shift the pouring spot slightly towards these dry leaves with each refill. This method allows the top leaves to stay dry for approximately 4-5 refills, though the exact number can vary based on your refill frequency.
@@mateinayerbamate thank you so much, today I have prepared my first mate by your video and the result was fenomenal!! Thank you!!!!
great video, so if i put the leaves in it and only add water twice, lets say, once i finish the second water fill I can just leave it as is and add water to the leaves later? how long do the leave stay good that are wet at the bottom?
If You let it without puting new hot water regularly, the yerba gets cold and it gets ruined.
The canned versions of mateina say that it is roasted. Is this the same case for the version your using in this video?
Hello guys! How many cups like this do you have to drink to feel the effect of, let's say, a can of mateina? 15 infusions might last for days?
Great question! Based on our experience, consuming 5-6 gourds (cups) of yerba mate starts to yield noticeable effects. With approximately 50g of yerba mate (equivalent to 200-250mg of caffeine) in a gourd that you can infuse up to 15 times, it's feasible to drink these 15 infusions in one morning or afternoon.
Consider that a fully infused gourd is equivalent to approximately +/- 1.5-2 coffees. However, it's crucial to note that the combination of caffeine with Theobromine, Theophylline, and antioxidants often produces a different sensation compared to coffee alone. Therefore, it's essential to be mindful of your personal tolerance levels. Begin by infusing your mate 5-6 times in a short timeframe and observe how your body reacts!
How many times can added water into it , like 3 times or 4 or 5 times ? ( before you start over again with fresh dry yerba mate leafs again ) ????
I believe he said 15 infusions. I normally do 500 cc up to 1 liter (as per my thermos) but you will eventually learn to notice: it will stop tasting like mate, it will be just warm water, and yerba will start to float around (we call that a Mate Lavado, washed down)
So if it can be infused multiple times, after the first infusion, how should it be stored? Also with each infusion, am I getting the same Caffeine amount? If yes, then what is the recommended amount that 1 person should infuse and drink in a day?
Yes you drink it 20-30 times. You drink it until it looses its flavor. Then you pour out, scrape out the gourd with a spoon. Discard all the used Yerba. Then wash out. Generally you don’t drink 1 or 2 mates and come back hours later to drink more. You make a new mate at that point. So you drink it until the flavor has gone and no longer tastes fresh,. Caffeine content decreases as you drink it. It’s somewhat like the peace pipe. You drink it, then pour water again, give to your friend, wife whomever and they drink it. Many people drink from the same mate in South America. It’s shared. You don’t have to do that, but definitely nice to share with someone.
Amen! 🙏
What a weird anwser 😅 @@mateinayerbamate
I am thinking that it cannot be a good thing to leave soggy leaves in dark warm place for a day or two….???
i've drunk from the same mate for days, ur fine
Do you have ability shipping to Saudi Arabia or GCC countries ?I need for personal using.
I hope to you get response, we don’t have good product like your product!!
Ok- but if I want to brew it and chill it and go? Would 2 min be ok for me to soak it and make it?
Can I ask how painful that was to mix the Yerba mate in that bowl to demonstrate what NOT to do? Haha. Also great fucking video. Thanks!
My gourd turned dark black on the inside after leaving the leaves in after awhile. What does this mean? Can I still salvage this?
According to Yerba Mate Labs channel the blackening is natural, even desirable. Mold is fuzzy and can be removed. It just sounds like your gourd is seasoned.
Check his channel and blog for more info. He's also pretty good at responding to comments.
Add olive oil every once in a while and wipe the inside and out. Your good to leave the herb in for 24 hours to Season the gourd.
What do you mean by 'awhile'? You shouldn't leave used yerba mate in the gourd when you are not drinking or over night. When you finish drinking, toss the yerba and rinse the Mate (gourd) with water and set it to dry.
I get traditional customs and whatnot but why not just steep it like any other tea? I don't understand the benefit of going through all these extra steps and using the special cup. What's the drawback of just putting the leaves in a steeping ball for 1 cup?
I understand that as you continue to drink with additional steeping, the flavor changes. It is also traditionally passed around and shared among friends. Each time water is added it brews a small amount of tea vs making a cup's worth. Mind you I'm not too knowledgeable of the tradition, but that's what I've gathered.
You can if you like. I do both
I just bought my first pack of yerba mate tea but now I'm reading that it causes cancer :( any views on this?
Can you link the study? The only link I can find is for consuming anything smoked, or drinking very hot water. Doesn't have to do with the yerba specifically.
Why is this so complicated? 😢
French press it
Coming soon!
that it's called mate cocido
Very complicated way of making a cup of tea.
its not tea
🤓☝️
Its worth it
It's garbage water
@@JohnRamos-v3t but why is it worth it? what is the benefit of doing it this way?
No thanks. I’ll just stick to coffee and tea
Right because it’s not like you’re already drinking dried leaves steeped in water or anything
Why would you even click on the video LOL..
Sophisticated way of drinking garbage water
Great instructions!
