he was born at the right time. he is helping to revitalize music. it is much needed now. he has the chops to do it too! he was a kid at this point compared to now.
Totally disagree. Because of him, millennials have been introduced to music they would never have heard. And, he will go down as one of the greats. He’s surpassed many of the greats already and he’s barely 40
as a fan of his (I'm now 30) one of the coolest things John ever did was introduce a whole new generation to this kind of Blues music. He made me appreciate it and then branch out my interests. That's huge.
so so true. he changed the music scene big time. i was into all the blues and the Dead before (i'm 42) and listened to Mayer back in 2010. i heard his music before but never really listened. i thought he was just another cocky pop musician. i like all his music and its cool to see him mature and be such a great artist. i like how he respects the legends and even surprises them sometimes. his resume is just mndblowing at this point and its deserved. he is a very smart and humble dude. hope he sticks around a very long time.
I've seen Buddy twice, Once with Quinn Sullivan and last time with Stevie's brother Jimmie Vaughan, That was sweet seeing my Idol's brother for the first time and BG twice.
I love the dynamics in this. I love that they didn't just try to play as loud and as fast as they can, but played with heart and soul. Ahhhhhhhhhh.....that was gooooooood!
Mayer's 100 times the guitar player he was back here in his early twenties and even then you can tell Buddy Guy's bugging at how cool his playing is. That's Buddy Guy, a man who needs NO intro!
The musical chemistry of these two playing this Buddy Guy tune together is through the roof and it's on fire. I love John Mayer's musical mastery and genius talent. Love him
Just to clear this up, Feels Like Rain was indeed written by John Hiatt and it was originally released on his lp "Slow Turning" in 1988. 5 years later in 1993, it was recorded as a duet with Bonnie Raitt by Buddy Guy and released as title track of his second album on Silvertone records. Source: allmusic . com
I think one of the best things about this is the music being kept alive, never growing old. Look at the audience of "teenage girls" experiencing this music, and getting it, feeling it. How can that be bad?
Magic caught on tape. John is so in the groove with Buddy, he has that "is this really happening?" look on his face...Buddy has the, "Oh shit, play that riff again!" smile going. Awesome.
AWESOME - A true Blues God, A great John Hiatt written song and a great up and coming youthful guitar player to help carry on the blues traditions. John hiatt has written some incredible songs.
Both of these guys are great musicians! Got to meet Buddy Guy 1 on 1 at a concert in St Charles, Mo at the Family Arena with Jonny Lang and Jimmie Vaughn. Spent 15 mins with Mr Guy my wife and I up close and personal with him and he is a class act for sure. Been following him for his whole career and he deserves much more recognition than he gets. You go Buddy and your music will still be playing long after we are gone! Love you man!
It is great to see these two playing together. They play together all the time and their love of each other is obvious. A living legend playing with a new legend being created. What a great song and a great perfomance.
Buddy is fricken amazing! It's all about the respect that is being offered. man i felt that! nobody trying to show up anyone, just respect and creating together. wow...
damn right. thing is john mayer opened up the eyes of the consumers and made the focal point blues. Hes like alright you listened to the pop stuff now focus your eyes on the real music. He really opened a new path for blues and will definetly go down in history. So where people use to say I grew up with hendrix or clapton ill be saying "Kids I grew up with Mayer, Bonnamassa, etc." Its wonderful what he has done.
A perfect combination of 2 great guitarist getting funky playing the blues! Buddy Guy is simply the best!!! John Mayer is carrying the torch to the newer generation of guitar slingers!!!!
I find it awesome that Buddy Guy inspired Hendrix, SRV, and Clapton, all who went on to inspire John Mayer, who has now gotten several chances to play with the great blues legend himself. It's like a huge circle of guitar virtuosos. Hopefully one day I'll get to jump in on that!
I love how at like, 6:15, John's playing softly and Buddy's all "come on now, play it!" and then they both loosen up even more. it's that laid back attitude that makes Jamming so fun i think xD
That's when you make feel proud the Masters of Blues, when you see new generation playing as good as they did and understanding what it is about. You can see how much Buddy Guy is enjoying playing with him!
It does my heart good to see young people who get it that older people were young, too, and spent a lifetime of dues-paying and have a ton to offer. As far as Black - White - growly vocals and all that? One of the coolest old hipster Bluesmen alive is the great Mose Alison. What a songwriter, piano man - deep lyricist and genius from Mississippi. But he's too cool to worry about trying to "sound Black" or think he should or needs to. All shades of Blue work for me. It's all good! peace
I love how their guitars both immulate their personalities. Buddy's maple neck helps him with the loud and boistrous playing, while John's rosewood neck gives him the mellow sound. That's when you know you're listening to a good/great musician. When their instrument represents themselves.
John, come back to this. The magic on display here penetrates the soul deeper than any pop sound wish it could. As I've watched your evolution as a musician, I have to say that moments like this are where you captured the hearts of those who truly appreciate your music...including myself. Thanks for producing soothing tunes when the rest of us couldn't.
another great version of a john hiatt song. to bad more people don't know who he is. plus, buddy guy kicks ass. I saw him 10/16/09 here in Austin. great show!!!!!
Buddy is pretty short... for a Blues Giant! I met him at his bar "Legends" in Chicago, as he was just hanging out one night in Dec. A little more than a year later, I had the pleasure of seeing him perform at Legends (as he always does in January). He went wireless and stood right in from of me as he soloed! I don't want to say he was too close, but I could smell his 'jerry curl' as I looked over his shoulder when he played!! We were all blown away... what a venue!
I guess that sums it up then. I could have sworn I saw Stevie's signature on the headstock the last time I saw it on TV. Thanks for clearing that up, I'm glad my eyes weren't deceiving me!!
amazing simply amazing... they're pretty much just hangin out and jammin. I love it when they just walk up to each other and go back and forth wingin it.
Yeah exactly, the're even guys who say their favourite music genre is 'top-40 charts'... That's not even a genre! The're just following someone else's choice. I'm glad there is still someone like John nowadays to keep the blues alive.
I could listen to Buddy all day long. Blues is my thing. 80 percent cherroke and the rest Irish. I never could figure out why I was Soo into all the African American music,,,, and then my mom said my dad was African American. Well dang mom u could have let me in o that before 30 hit. Lol
i wish there was a heart button, because 'like' doesn't cover it.. omg, this is amazing, john mayers voice in his first solo... now i like john mayers music, but there is something about THIS solo.
I remember watching a vid with BB King introducing Stevie Ray as young blood for the blue's, this vid with Buddy Guy playing with John Mayer remind's me of the BB King vid. Dja
its really ashame that JM was born at a time that blues music isnt appreciated anymore he wouldve been one of the greats for sure
he was born at the right time. he is helping to revitalize music. it is much needed now. he has the chops to do it too!
he was a kid at this point compared to now.
I still listen
Totally disagree. Because of him, millennials have been introduced to music they would never have heard. And, he will go down as one of the greats. He’s surpassed many of the greats already and he’s barely 40

stoop04 I agree
B. B. King did the same. He encouraged followers of him to light their candle off of his flame and B.B. was all the better for doing it~ My love~
eric clapton did it the best .. he covered all the blues stuff of the old ones (robert johnson, eddy boyd, ottish rush, freddy king...)
so so true. he changed the music scene big time. i was into all the blues and the Dead before (i'm 42) and listened to Mayer back in 2010. i heard his music before but never really listened. i thought he was just another cocky pop musician.

JM is an artist who'll be appreciated more 100 years from now.
This song is just so lovely and John's voice was just great
Aside from the auto-tune sound...
During that time, he always sounded great live idk what you're talking about mate
listen samme79.........i have to say i am only kidding :)
@@phreddieboy5774 yes you are correct my friend apart from Buddy everyone else are one bar ahead, that is why Buddy is saying one more time,
John Mayer is a true Blues man at heart! They both are awesome!
I've seen Buddy twice, Once with Quinn Sullivan and last time with Stevie's brother Jimmie Vaughan, That was sweet seeing my Idol's brother for the first time and BG twice.
Buddy Guy has such a smooth voice, it just wrapps around you and holds you there...
Buddy is seriously the master. He can play louder, softer, faster, and even slower than just about anybody. His tone is so raw too. Such a stud.
The musical chemistry of these two playing this Buddy Guy tune together is through the roof and it's on fire. I love John Mayer's musical mastery and genius talent. Love him

The blues is its own color. Nothing else matters. BUDDY GUY FOREVER!
Buddy is a living legend - what an honor to share the stage
Must have been a great day for John. Finally being able to jam out with Buddy Guy. Most certainly a dream come true.
Awesome.
John Mayer has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.
AWESOME - A true Blues God, A great John Hiatt written song and a great up and coming youthful guitar player to help carry on the blues traditions. John hiatt has written some incredible songs.

Buddy Guy! Wow! "A living legend"! John Mayer awesome !
I love this song. John can sing and play I luv him and his music. Saw him in Dallas, Texas the best.
Buddy is fricken amazing! It's all about the respect that is being offered. man i felt that! nobody trying to show up anyone, just respect and creating together. wow...

John's voice in this makes every part of me melt.
BUDDY = coolness incarnated, as usual
I find it awesome that Buddy Guy inspired Hendrix, SRV, and Clapton, all who went on to inspire John Mayer, who has now gotten several chances to play with the great blues legend himself. It's like a huge circle of guitar virtuosos. Hopefully one day I'll get to jump in on that!
Buddy and John are amazing. I like the musical dialog that these two have together. Its not a competition, its music.
I love how at like, 6:15, John's playing softly and Buddy's all "come on now, play it!" and then they both loosen up even more. it's that laid back attitude that makes Jamming so fun i think xD
buddy's voice is just gorgeous

Oh that shirt.
❤️ 💎💎💎💎💎 ! From ARGENTINA 🇦🇷 ! La Rompen !! Yeahhh Buddy !! Oh yeahh !!
i totally agree. I'm borned in 1988 and JM was the first musician I followed from the beginning of his career.
It's all good! peace
john seems so relaxed here. two great musicians!
Love seeing the joy in buddy guy here, just a legend jamming with one of the best musicians of the 21st century
This is by far my favorite televised/taped John Mayer show. Just breathtaking. LOVE it!
I love how their guitars both immulate their personalities. Buddy's maple neck helps him with the loud and boistrous playing, while John's rosewood neck gives him the mellow sound. That's when you know you're listening to a good/great musician. When their instrument represents themselves.
Buddy is the MAN. Saw him 2X and he just gets better and better--original version of this song was Bonnie Raitt and Buddy.
i love when john mayer is ripping it and buddy just looks over and kinda nods and lets him rip it , shows him a little respect
Great Rendition of this beautiful song!
Buddy Guy is a guitar treasure!!!!
i love when john's vocals come in :) his tone of voice is amazing :D
Classic...New school and old....mixing. This is epic stuff.
John, come back to this. The magic on display here penetrates the soul deeper than any pop sound wish it could. As I've watched your evolution as a musician, I have to say that moments like this are where you captured the hearts of those who truly appreciate your music...including myself.
Thanks for producing soothing tunes when the rest of us couldn't.
epic soloing and call and response....
Buddy is always the master, and John the student. But John was a good Student. Sometimes he becomes a master. :-)
another great version of a john hiatt song. to bad more people don't know who he is. plus, buddy guy kicks ass. I saw him 10/16/09 here in Austin. great show!!!!!

tht was great could here the emotion and the guitar talking right on
John Mayers falsetto is fantastic. He has definitely grown musically since this video filmed
buddy and john are both heroes of mine...BRILLIANT!
Rarely get chills from John's voice, but this was amazing.
Yeah exactly, the're even guys who say their favourite music genre is 'top-40 charts'... That's not even a genre! The're just following someone else's choice.
I'm glad there is still someone like John nowadays to keep the blues alive.
Buddy Guy is great and still has his spotty guitar! Saw him with George Benson in London in 1993! John Mayers cute!
Best version I've heard except for seeing Buddy Live, 'cause nothing beats live blues!
I could listen to Buddy all day long. Blues is my thing. 80 percent cherroke and the rest Irish. I never could figure out why I was Soo into all the African American music,,,, and then my mom said my dad was African American. Well dang mom u could have let me in o that before 30 hit. Lol
Possibly my favourite video on TH-cam

Loved Buddy..John is a boy here..Buddy always makes me smile
i wish there was a heart button, because 'like' doesn't cover it.. omg, this is amazing, john mayers voice in his first solo... now i like john mayers music, but there is something about THIS solo.

Great voice Buddy.
don`t know this song, but this is absolutely beautiful and so moving. Thank you.
Super ,,,long live the blues,,,,,👍
Love the guitar conversation! :P In blues context, there is no guitar battle, but only guitar conversation.
