Now that this airplane is complete we are preparing to take it to West Africa and fly medivac and all sorts of missions in West Africa. If you're interested in that side of things or supporting, and serving with us in the field, fill out our mailing list form to stay informed.

Beautiful plane and custom work... impressive details ..
Extremely well thought out build, well done. This plane is a really interesting experimental build, I love the hauling capacity.
It’s amazing how much stuff can fit in the airplane.
Been researching for my build haven’t found anything that checks all my boxes like the model 5. This one built by Virgil is the nicest one I’ve seen so far! Hope my build comes out somewhere close to this level.
Just found the bearhawk AND your videos. Very well put together with excellent info. Thank you for all your time putting these together!
Glad you like them!
Shady nook here! Love that plane!! Awesome job
sounds FANTASTIC!!
Super nice. 👍
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
You bet!
Great job dude.
Thanks!
Best BH build!!
Thanks
Great airplane. All the best to you both.
From the UK. Absolutely wonderful!! Thank you.
Thanks
Can't wait to see it at Oshkosh
Display is up and ready in booth 608👍🏼
Can't thank you enough for the value you offer through your content
I appreciate that!
Excellent video… thanks for taking the time to do a nice walk around vid
You bet
Everything was well-thought-out, seems like a good job.
Thanks
Seriously impressive
Thanks it’s the dream machine
Just yes
It checks all the boxes
Amazing build!!! Thanks for videoing it and doing this in depth walk around. Now I won't ask you quite as many questions at Osh Kosh lol
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome Virgil - great build planning and implementation. Nice plane - we wish you safe travels and fair winds. Might want to get a little fan hehehehe.
Thanks 👍🏼
See you at oshkosh i cant wait to see this beauty in person
👍🏼
@@The-virg fantastic plane its even more impressive in person
I would keep the chrome fairings
How much would this exact build cost? I love it!
Incredible job on this build. I have a Patrol and you had the foresight to fix many of the issues I see with the stock design, like the cargo door hinge extension. Question about the EFI II- is it possible to hand prop with this system? I’ve had a starter burn out in the field and hand propping was the only way to get it home. Thanks!!
In theory it should be possible as long as there is enough power to run the pumps and fire the injectors. But I have not tried yet.
Great job. I feel like you finished this incredibly fast. Are you planning on taking it apart and shipping to Africa or will you fly through Greenland-Europe-Africa route?
Planning to ship it in a container with tools and all the parts to keep it flying.
New to flying and new to Oklahoma. I appreciate your Bearhawk videos. Do you have any flying in Green Country, OK videos?
I don’t think so. I fly in western and central Oklahoma mostly.
Mine got delivered yesterday (Model 5). I have a Cessna 195B and the BH-5 is the only thing that comes close to being able to replace it, except for the beautiful radial engine sound🙁. I'm not real keen on the "Flat 6" high RPM noise (radials have good torque and run about 500 rpm slower with bigger props). But the Bearhawk has better STOL capability and I can built it the way I want it, do my own annuals and modifications. And I like building.
Awesome glad to hear. Enjoy the build
I want this plane! You should sell you let builds!
They are the dream machine.
have you done any testing of engine temps with 100LL compared to 91? curious if theres any noticeable difference in temps.
I have not done comparison testing yet on fuels in relation to cylinder temps. But o should get a good feel for it in this long trip to osh.
Have you tested out the glide ratio on this yet? That's one of the many pieces of information that I have really struggled to find online.
It has a CD0min of 0.035.
Based on available data:
Vh is 180mph x 22/15 = 264ft/s
Q is 82.834
315hp x 1.033 ram air x 0.85 propeller efficiency... x 550/264 = Thrust
Area: 186sqft
Span: 34ft
Wt: 3000lb
MAC: 5.5ft.
CMc/4: -0.05
A/R: 6.215
E: 0.955.
Take CD0min multiplied by parabolic drag curve. Add lift induced drag to find approximate L/D at any given lift coefficient.
Estimated L/D is 9.5 at CL of 1.0.
Any suggestions as to how I can see a Bearhawk 5 in person, talk to a builder, or maybe even get a test ride?
I live in the Long Island, NY area.
Send us an email at info@bearhawkaircraft.com. We have demo aircraft available in Oklahoma.
@@The-virg Thanks!
Is the belly pod big enough for a spare tire and a folding bike
Plenty for a spare tire I folding. Bike would likely fit but might require a bigger door.
Can someone tell me how much it cost to build the Bearhawk 5 not including the cost of the kit?
Curious about the empty weight.
1660
This vs MAule M7?
What's your tire / wheel set up again?
10in grove wheels with 31in desser
hey, how have your transponder and ADSB antennas, and VOR/ILS/GS antenna locations worked out for you?
So far it all works great no issues with any of it. Biggest thing is make sure you have good bonding and large ground plains.
@@The-virg thank you! It seems like an ideal setup!
Hey, also how did you decide on putting the pitot just inside of the wing strut vs just outside?
@@carolinabearhawk8132 most put them just outside that is probably where I would put it. I have mine just inside, thought process was I didn’t want to hit my head on it but on 31’s it’s not an issue lol.
Ah okay, thank you!
Great video mate, awesome looking plane and thank goodness you did not fill this video with rubbish music like your previous one. We are here for your wisdom and thoughts on your Bearhawk and not for music video. lol.
Thanks 👍
Great build dude. You gonna run safety ropes on the gear from Tony too? Just a thought.
That's the plan
Sweet. It was an odd situation but I've seen a similar setup break and those ropes would have saved a lot of money and headache. Who did you go with for brakes?
@@1193lucas they are grove 10in wheels.
That was a dumb question. You did say they were 10in grove wheels in video. Should have figured what brakes they were. My bad
This is my new dream build! Awesome plane, were you able to keep it under that 200k mark?
Right around that mark. Required some thriftyness but deinately doable.
Can you fold the wings? Shipping and storing would be easier if you could.
Nope. That is not a feature of any aircraft this size. You only see it on smaller aircraft.
Your 'charity' seems like a tax free, crowd funded pet project to enable your flying. You could be "a vessel" of charity right here in the U.S.A,, but I guess that wouldn't require your flying, or at least that you fund some of it.. enjoy the flying in Africa.. Cheers on your 'mission.'
