Lucas Gilbertson(Voice of Zero in X8, Command Mission and Maverick Hunter X) redubbed some of the cutscenes. He definitely tried to emulate the energy and feel of the Japanese Dub.
the "What am I fighting for" scene is incredible because it's genuinely an emotional moment that's undercut in the most hilarious way by the voice acting. You can tell the writers knew it mattered cause it gets referenced in Zero's most climactic moment, the ending of MMZ4

@@taylord5381 It’s the weight of the flaws. If there are sixty flaws that mildly annoy me while game is amazing it nearly doesn’t matter. If there’s a single flaw that completely breaks an amazing game, then it’s a major problem. How fun the experience is also matters, I don’t give a shit about a game that has no flaws but has mediocre concept and execution. But I’ll pay $60 with shitty looks, an army of tiny bugs, a few actual bugs, and bad models but brilliant and creative gameplay(Pokemon Arceus in a nutshell).
The experience of X4 isn't that great. The controls feel really finicky and the levels are a little on the boring side compared to other mega man games; plus, the armor parts either make the game too easy (plasma charge arm parts) or get in the way (foot parts). The best part is the bosses, but even those can be ruined by the awkward controls. This game is also not as fun to me as many other games. I'd take any of the classic Mega Man (except Mega Man 8), Mega Man Zero/ZX (except ZX Advent), or SNES Mega Man X games over this one. Heck, I'd rather play X6 or Mega Man & Bass because the sheer frustration those games bring is more interesting to me than X4. I'd still pick this over X5, though!
I think the biggest issue with X series story is that it has a lot of cool and interesting ideas that are either lost in translation, are kinda vague, or have poor execution. It’s one of the reasons I’m so disappointed that the maverick hunter X series didn’t continue since we could have finally gotten a solid narrative for the X series.
Ikr? Maverick Hunter X was a solid narration to the X series but unfortunately it wasn't continued because of the system it came out on. Maverick Hunter X is highly praised for retelling the story in a comprehensive way so why not hold the good pace Capcom?
@@Ghosty_Dosty It was initially supposed to remake X1 through X6, but the game was a selling disappointment for Capcom and it's a shame because despite the X series being a rollercoaster in terms of quality, most of these games just needed some tweaks to make them masterpieces, X3 Zero Project and X6 Tweaks proves that
14:10 They might not have intuitive button combinations for X, but something that not enough people talk about is that X4 introduced the next best thing to the X series: having separate buttons for the buster and special weapons. That way you can still have a special weapon ready while using the buster.
I still miss those manually drawed anime-cutscenes from MMX4 by this day. This visual style holds something really special from the 90ths anime. No other games since MMX4 used something like this for some reason, and prerenders from MMX7/8 cannot compete with MMX4 cutscenes at all. Such a loss.
This was back in those days where the home consoles finally could have those anime-type cut-scenes for the first time. I remember being 12 playing this game and amazed that I was playing a game and watching an anime at the same time. Huge step up from my previous system which was the SNES.
X4 is my favorite of the X series. I appreciate the attempt at story telling and playing as Zero in particular is really fun to play as. The ability to play in virtually any stage order helps a lot as backtracking is very minimal. I know u can play stages in any order in X games but when replaying them u almost need to play in specific order. Anyone who's played X1 a few times always goes to Chill Penguin's stage first
Unfortunately Penguin’s Stage has an unmissable capsule. If you take on Spark Mandrill or Storm Eagle without it, you will certainly die. Thankfully, this was fixed in future games. #regularx
@@droman608does make it kind of a fun challenge to try and beat the bosses without dash boots though lol. It can be done you just need to be a little lucky and very good at the same time. But to be honest this was a whole new game mechanic so they put it in an unmissible spot in the physically most they put it in an unmissible spot in the physically least imposing boss stage. They knew what they were doing lol. They clearly had people there that understand humans well.
I've always put Megaman with no space since it feels weird when writing or typing it Mega Man it feels off the same as putting the dash between Spiderman
Okay, if you want to call Mega Man "Megaman", that's fine. More power to you. However, Spider-Man is Spider-Man, not Spiderman. It's just the tiniest of pauses in between words.
Not gonna lie, when I play the MMX games on my own time, I usually just bind one of the buttons on my controller to the emulator's fast forward feature so that I could speed by the boss rushes.
@@Exellocks I've only played the first two X games but I always bind the dash to L and then weapon switching to X and A. L feels so much more natural to press than A. I also don't want my finger off of B and Y to jumop and shoot.
The Legacy Collection on GameCube also included updated dub work on X4. While the in-game sound effects were the same, they did a complete rewrite and re-dub of the English script and it reads far better.
I've always considered Megaman X4 the best game in the series, it's the closest thing to a perfect Megaman game. The japanese voice acting is actually good, especially for its time. The american localization ruined this games reputation for too long, and it's quite a shame.
I would personally consider Zero 3 to be a perfect Mega Man game, and I think J somewhat agrees. The Zero formula is done the best and mechanically it adds more to what Zero 2 did than what X4 added to X3.
@@MaskedGuyCh It's always been held in high regard in Japan due to anime being an extremely lucrative business. They can't afford to play around with voice acting. I'm not sure how it has changed, however. All the household names are from that era.
Ngl, these reviews really got me interested in the x franchise. I used to really suck at them but actually replaying them & learning the level design & boss pattern has really made me found a new appreciation for some of these games. Learning about least backtracking routes was really enjoyable too. It a weird way these reviews taught me these games aren’t as hard as I thought they were back then. You iust need to what your doing
This was a period of time where people generally bought games less often, and the primary target audience was mostly kids. Kids were a lot more inclined to "figure things out" due to excessive free time & needing to make the most out of every game they were fortunate enough to acquire. Because of this games were more often designed with steeper difficulty curves that asked a lot more mechanical skill of the player up-front, because the players were more inclined to spend the time figuring things out. In our modern age where you can nearly instantly download countless timeless masterpieces for $5 or less regardless of what system you're using, things have to compete for your attention much more aggressively & that sort of difficulty curve tends to make people give up and play something else.
I will always have a special place in my heart for Mega Man X4. This is the first X series game I played all the way through and really loved it. Even today, this is probably my favorite X game. This has one of my favorite X armors (first time you could switch out X armor parts, even though it was just the arms), you can have a full playthrough with Zero, had really awesome music, and it just had some really fun gameplay. This was just a really awesome installment in an already solid Mega Man series.
Don't know why the English localisation flip flops between Mega Man and Megaman but I always spell it as Mega Man, as that's how the Robot Master naming convention is set up for the likes of Elec Man, Metal Man, Snake Man, Pharaoh Man etc. On the subject of X4, this was THE game that I was the most excited about when the XLCs were revealed, and despite getting my ass handed to me a few times when I first played it, it quickly became my favourite X game, as well as one of two games that fight for the honour of my favourite Mega Man game in general, the other being Zero 3. The Fourth Armour and Zero's gameplay alone elevate it above X1 for me, but the package as a whole is nothing short of excellent, story/translation problems notwithstanding.
On the subject of the name, I also flip back and forth. I also do it with a lot of other characters (Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Astroboy, etc.). So it's not exclusive to this franchise.
I like Megaman more because it's a name, not an adjective, nor a surname. It's not like Mario Bros, that Mario is the name and 'Bros' is his surname. He's not called 'Man' that's mega, he's Megaman. That said, I remember somewhere is implied that Megaman X is actually just X, but probably they retconned that. Started with Mega Man X, than Megaman X to be closer to the Japanese name, then finally just X to avoid confusion because the classic Megaman started to receive new games again.
@@magicalcapi9148 What? No. Not all person's names have to follow the personal/family name convention. Especially superhero and robot names. It's not a divine obligation. And what makes you think that "Bros" is Mario's last name?! It's written "Bros." because it's short for "Brothers". It's supposed to refer to Mario AND Luigi being brothers. That's _what_ they are, not their surname. (It's assumed from the fact that they're called the Mario Brothers that Mario is their family name, but that's a different issue.) And he IS a Man of Rockin'/that's Mega, otherwise the name would just be an empty flex. And X is just short for Rockman/Megaman/Mega Man/whatever X. The computer description in the original MMX intro even refers to X himself as "Megaman X", and Dr. Light's voice recording in Maverick Hunter X's ending calls him "Mega Man X" the first time.
@@CarbonRollerCaco You're correct in many points. Sorry, I indeed got confused about Mario's name. If we're gonna get into technicalities, they can do whatever they want. Just saying what for me feels more logical, but there's also a lot of merit being separated too. Researching a bit more, apparently, characters avoided/stopped/never were calling X, by Megaman X, for the exception to Dr. Light and Dr. Cain, creating the theory that X's past is being kept a secret. For most of the characters, it's just X.
This game's just got vibes, you know? The music is so nostalgic and atmospheric and it pumps you right up for the action, the intro's just so exciting, the "Megaman... **X 4!**" annoucer is so cool, the sound effects and in-game voice acting are so crisp, the animations of all the bosses are so cool, the FRIGGIN BOSS INTROS never fail to send a chill down my spine... Vibes. So many vibes. EDIT: The cutscenes, as hilarious as the voice acting is, got some good vibes too
This was my first Megaman ever, it was installed in the computers of my school and I always played in my free time. Unfortunately it was installed with no soundtrack and no anime cutscenes, I also couldn't get used to play it on keyboard (shooting, jumping and dashing in 3 separate keys was awkward to play with) so I never managed to finish it. Years later I got the Legacy Collection for my PS2, and with a controller in hand and more experience, I managed to beat this game. Zero, who I considered a weak choice because of his short range combat, became super fun and satisfying to use. I owe Megaman X4 a lot for how much into gaming I am nowadays, and for introducing me to this franchise. Even to this day it's one of my favorite games of all time. EDIT: Well I guess I never had any problem with spelling "Megaman"...
Personally, I spell it "Mega Man". I love the red and black Plasma Arms, they make it looks like X is going through his rebellious phase or something. Interesting to consider how a full Plasma Armor would have looked. Great re-review, again!
Yo! There IS a "Full Plasma Armor." In MMX4 there is the Ultimate Armor which matches the gloves. You also get unlimited Nova Strikes, which you can cheese and burn through the whole game
I love the characterisation in the Split Mushroom fight. It's a spin off of the concept of eating random mushrooms would make you go on a massive trip, Split Mushroom really gives you that feeling of "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON ???!" but to be honest, it's really not that hard. It just LOOKS hectic with all the bullshit going on which'll cause you to make a stupid panic mistake, but it's all fake. Just stay calm and you win (all of this assuming you're not using his weakness)
@@inaminute1826 Not like he was the first MMX boss to rehash a Classic MM boss gimmick. Wheel Gator basically copies Drill Man with his diving and Dive Man with his drilling. No, I didn't mix those up.
I was in 4th grade when I first played this and It was the first game I ever saved up my allowance to buy. I still have that copy to this day in excellent condition. I still need a Repliforce patch, or a Keychain, or a Cap. I still Head fanon an AU of "how would thing change if in best case scenario the reploid civil war was prevented, Reploid rights was greatly expanded, and Repliforce was granted an Island nation as a homeland. How would Sigma change his plans in terms of X5?"
I always go Jet Stingray first when planning the least backtrack route because you need nothing to grab all power ups in that stage and the boss is free for Zero, and pretty easy for X with no upgrade or weapon. BTW, you can crouch cancel slash in X5 for Zero :)
Despite playing Megaman my whole life, I never realized there was ANY time that it was divided, that's totally on me. Regardless I've always written it as "Megaman" or "Megaman X" because of how I would mentally speak it.
X4 is such a great classic. My favorite X game; probably even my favorite Mega Man game in general. The sprite graphics are still gorgeous and the music brings me such joy! Although you can always expect a MM game to have bangers. Iconic game.
Also have certain nostalgia for the 5th gen of consoles despite experiencing most of it “after” its heyday. Given that as a kid I mostly played SNES games in the late 90s, so during the 00s I primarily caught up with the Ps1 stuff after the family managed to get one of these. Though so far I only tried some N64 games vía emulation a few years ago. Only “on console” experience with it was a few MK64 matches in a Chinese restaurant that had some N64s as some kind of game room.
Favorite X game and one of my favorite games in general. Pretty much everything is good to great, with the voice acting being the most obvious issue. Regardless, I actually enjoy the story, especially their endings. Zero and X both wonder if becoming Maverick is an inevitability. Plus, it shows how much X trusts Zero by asking him to take care of him if it were to happen.
X meant "take care of me" as in "take me out [like an enemy]". He can only trust someone as powerful, skilled and knowing of him as Zero to be capable of doing that.
I only knew about X4 from the memes about the cutscenes, but when I played through the series for the first time recently I was really surprised to realize that 4 may just be my fav in the series, at least gameplay wise Specifically Zero's campaign
Long childhood story here. When i first got this game on my ps1 my controller was not working properly (it was constantly holding DOWN without me pressing anything) so after the intro stage i only had 4 stages to play, frost walrus, slash beast, Jet stingray, and split mushroom. (this Last one i couldn't beat it because of a ladder section it had i believe) Then by accident i held up on the d-pad when the game was loading the stage select screen and i could choose the other 4 stages, unless i released up, the controller would stuck me down again XD, anyway i still couldn't beat the game cause of ladder sections, Web spider stage has a long one on the first phase. So i was playing it like that for a month until my dad bought me another controller and i finally could beat the game. Such good old times...
x4 is my fav x series. The stage difficulty/ boss design is balanced to perfection. In fact it's done so well it'd be more enjoyable to fight all bosses with mega buster. The collectable are also much easier/ less tedious than x2/ x3.
In my opinion… The stages/bosses are way too easy to be anything all that interesting. Said stages are the third best in the X series, but what is that saying when the same series has X3, and X5-8? Some bosses are good, like Split Mushroom, Magma Dragoon, Slash Beast, Colonel, Double, and Iris, while the others are either easy, tedious, and usually have terrible hitboxes. Mechanically, much of it is a missed opportunity. As opposed to improving on what X3, it goes back to X1’s level of upgrade and mechanic depth with just heart tanks, sub tanks, and armor. The plotline is also a missed opportunity. X’s story is generally very shallow, Double doesn’t have enough importance to mean anything and Sigma just appears. Zero’s doesn’t shed enough light on Iris, making her death feel incredibly insignificant. The OST feels lackluster in comparison to the original trilogy and even the rest of the PS1 games. On a positive note, X controls his best here, and Zero’s campaign is very nice to have. The weapons are one of the best sets in the X series, and this is the best game to do a minimalist run of. By the way, I still like this game, and I don’t mean to imply that I hate it. But it’s not the end-all be-all X game, and it’s certainly not the best Mega Man game in my opinion.
@@amso7169 In fact it's done so well it'd be more enjoyable to fight all bosses with mega buster. That's the key point. Ik they make weakness weap too strong in x4. That's why is generally more interesting to play as Z.
@@Ventus_S I should have specified that I meant fighting the bosses with the buster. I was making a point that even without weaknesses, most of the bosses are too easy or have some other issues. Frost Walrus, with the buster or not, is a complete pushover for example.
@@amso7169 Not every game need to be insanely hard though. I think x4 has the widest reach along with X cuz how fair their difficulty is. X stage is very short and simple too.
@@amso7169 I can't bring myself to say it's stage design is any worse than x2's personally, but maybe not x1's. Also, what issues with hitboxes did you have with the bosses?
I still unironically love this voice acting (same with MM8s which im sure we will get to eventually). Sigma's voice is perfect. Zero mispronouncing "coup" is the only issue and I still actually tear up at "what am i fighting for" despite the memes.
maybe tho my disagreement about the voice is that I played this (and all megaman games) when they first came out. So when I played it, we didnt know what "bad voice acting" was so I was unbiased by the memes because they didnt exist.
The sound design for X4 really seemed to be trying to keep the sound style from the SNES games, but reworked, and modernized through the PS1 hardware. Maybe they were hoping to appeal to nostalgia/fan service. X5 went in its own unique direction that was kept as the series went on, and it really did sound better. Burn Dinorex vs Magma Dragoon, for example, isn't even a contest. That said; everything else about X4 was just better. Great video series, m8. Oh, and "Megaman" lol
Always felt magma dragoon's theme didn't even sound like anything fire or heat related so it was out of place. I could picture it instead being a theme for an electricity based stage/boss.
X4 was my first X game with the Saturn when I was a little kid. It's been one of my favorite games growing up, and I'm happy it has held up. But the cutscenes also was a sticking point. But I heard the original Japanese, as well as a fandub recently, which made me take the cutscenes more seriously, and appreciate how these characters interact with each other, and the weight in X's last cutscene in his exchange with Zero. You may like the fandub for X4's Zero cutscenes where Lucas Gilbertson(Command Mission/X8) did Zero's voice lines, and different actors for Colonel and Iris. It was delivered far better, albeit with the original English script.
When it comes to the spelling of Megaman I grew too used to it being one word. Also when it comes to X4, I do feel it sits as the peak of the X series. Tragic to say it like that but X4 feels like it refined everything it needed to and introduced Zero as it is the 4th game in a series so it must introduce something new to spice up the formula, but it was done well and is remembered as a fond and welcome addition to the series at least imo.
MegaMan was my first ever MegaMan series game and first PC game. MegaMan is what me choose my life course as a software engineer. I have every collection of MegaMan items and I thank God for telling me about it. Also, Thank you for reviewing my childhood game.
this was my favorite game growing up, i struggled so much back then that i had to call bro to beat certain obj. Now a days i just love speed running this game lol, which is still to this day really fun for some reason. and how i write mega man depends if its x series or og. ex: megaman x4 and mega man 8
Your route actually made me think about makingmy own because i really wanted the plasma shot so i made my own and you were right about routing paths being really fun. My path goes Magma dragoon Web spider Storm owl Slash beast ( i was really proud of myself for beating him buster only) Backtrack to magma dragoon Split mushroom Cyber peacock Jet stingray Frost walrus This is why i played this game so much
Megaman legends 1 and 2 were my favorite megaman games ever. So disappointed that we didn't get a megaman legends 3. I guess megaman trigger, sarah and that one other lady (forgot her name) are stuck on elysium forever.
Great review, I agree it's the perfection of the MMX formula. And yes the voice acting was painful, especially sigma and zero. I wanted to mention that the Mega Man X remake for the PSP, "MMX: Maverick Hunter", has INCREDIBLE voice acting. I don't remember very specifically right now, but I remember getting really absorbed into the dialogue while playing simply because the voice acting was so good.
This is a big nostalgia game for me. Man I didn't knew the exchange of Zero and Colonel is that funny. It probably topped the Iris scene for me from now on.
I can't remember if X4 or X3 were my first Mega Man X games, I remember playing both of them and being so bad that I never finished them until I was 16 or older, and all I can say is that they hold a place in my heart and your reviews lets me enjoy them once more even if I'm not playing them. I plan to buy the full legacy collections just to try and make Capcom see we want and need a megaman comeback, just hope they don't burn the franchise again
This is the most fun choice too imo. Although most recently I like starting with Split Mushroom first, a hard boss fight but you get the double jump and spinslash early.
I like to start with slash beast with zero i don't know why but the battle against him is really satisfactory as the first boss and you can get everything in his stage without revisiting the stage
Oh man, look at all these new characters. I love them, I sure hope they come back in the sequels. Also X4 has the best soundtrack of any and all Mega Man games ever made. I could listen to Magma Dragoon's stage on loop for days without getting annoyed.
Right on, X4 was definitely one of the best in the X series. Followed the formula before they started changing it up in X5 onwards. The music in X4 is very well done too. It's definitely more synthy from the rest of the games which isn't a bad thing. And each stage has a track that fits their theme so perfectly. Web spiders jungle makes you feel like your traversing a... Jungle. Fighting through dangerous hornet nests and .... Fish men with spears. Magma.....DRAGOON's stage feels like an intense volcano. So intense you need a ride armor to walk through the lava - or magma because it's inside a volcano? And of course my favourite ( and the one I remixed 😏) Frost Walruses stage. The first part is PERFECT for a winter wasteland feeling. The howling wind, those offbeat chimes, that Dreamcast boot up-esque sound that plays. All of it captures the atmosphere so well. And the Part 2 area, I love how we get a more traditional track, with a beat / bass / melody as we explore inside the base. I don't mean to rant, but the X series is my favorite. Good stuff, keep up the reviews! 💎
I still remember my first experience with this game. I didn’t have a PlayStation console yet so I rented one from Blockbuster (back when that was still a thing) and Mega Man X4. When I got home and fired it up, that intro blew me away. My jaw hit the floor. I was actually seeing Mega Man X in animated form and it was one of the coolest moments in my whole gaming life. I’ll never forget that moment! It was the first game I ever played on the system.
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 That irritated me as a younger, less sympathetic kid. I was like "She's dead. Give it up already.". And you obviously can't blame the localizing for that.
And in my opinion, X6 blows X5's soundtrack out of the water. Too bad X6 is an even more problematic than X5. But, X4, X5, and X8 hold special places in my heart. X4 is just the cleanest game, and the best for speedrunning.
I got both my Playstation and Saturn on the same day (9/9/95). Before that, I had a Sega Genesis/Sega CD and Snes. I am also a 5th generation collector today and still very much a Mega Man fan (I'm going somewhere with this). Having said that, while I don't agree with your assessment of the Saturn (it definitely was important to the console wars), I find your channel to be very refreshing. You may not have experienced the full breath of the 4th and 5th generations you show a modicum of respect, and for that, I thank you. Addendum - It has been so long since I played the Mega Man games that I had forgotten which ones beyond 8 were 32-bit. I knew some of the X's were, but I had to look them up. I actually just realized while cleaning up my SSD that I own the Mega Man X Collection on the Series X (and PS5). I really wanted to play the 32-bit entries again (without looking through our collection), and you just put me on the right track. Good man.
Glad to see X4 still holds up to this day! Always have been interested in playing it, but never got around to it. Also, for some reason I always thought that classic Megaman was spelled without a space, but Mega Man X did have a space in it. Weird :/
I really enjoy these videos. I found your channel by looking for Mega Man content after playing through the games again. Glad to see ya re-reviewing these Mega man x games because with how your mindset has changed, it's nice to see them in a bit of a different light. Looking forward to your re-reviews of the other Mega man x games and some other stuff as well.

Man seeing the old review and this is like day and night. You really change since the few years fam, i cant wait for you re-review the zero series and maybe review the battle network and the classic series...you were the youtuber who i kinda use to know about the x games
I think a missed opportunity here would have been to have Zero have capsule upgrades like MegaMan did in previous games. Imagine how awesome it would have been to see Wiley onscreen for the first time saying "Zero, you are my greatest creation. To fulfill your destiny, to meet your true potential, I've prepared this for you, so that some day you might become my vision of the future" Chills bro. Chills
Did you know that the voice actress recording lines for X wasn’t even told she was recording for him in the same session as Mega Man 8? Yeah the sessions for these games were a mess.
Enjoyed watching these 4 X vids. As for Sigma, yeah when he beat Zero that is when he (Sigma) got infected by the virus to become a Maverick, (and took over Zero's role who was the first Maverick). Also when Sigma goes "Zero, you were a Maverick!?" I never took that as a fault in the writing. Instead I always took it as Sigma just toying with Zero. Like he just reminded Zero of Zero's origins and then plays with it saying like "my my, you were a Maverick?" not that he was actually surprised and asking Zero that question. It's more of an insult to Zero fighting what he was. And it's Megaman for me.
I actually used X's side weapons more in this than any X game before. Probaby because you can dual wield all of them with the buster, and because of the infinite ammo upgrade.
"pacebreaker" in this context just seems to mean "anything that wasnt simple to slash through at full speed" some people like difficulty, doesnt need to be full speed the whole time
X worrying about going maverick was neat foreshadowing to MegaMan Zero where X did go maverick. Right up until the Zero series had to make major retcons so he didn't anymore.

To me Zeros sounded like a Badass lone wolf theme like. "Its all up to me again!"

That way you can still have a special weapon ready while using the buster.
Mega Man 8 did that too.
@@smashmaster521 And actually encouraged you to use it.
It's baffling that Mega Man & Bass and Mega Man 9-present cut this feature.
Agreed!
And it gave us the legendary W WHAT AM I FIGHTING FORRRRRRRR!.
This was back in those days where the home consoles finally could have those anime-type cut-scenes for the first time. I remember being 12 playing this game and amazed that I was playing a game and watching an anime at the same time. Huge step up from my previous system which was the SNES.
Being able to finally truly play as Zero throughout the entire game was so cool. X4 is easily my favorite Megaman game alongside X5, X8 and Zero3.
Aye. I tend to joke that this isn't Mega Man X4, it is Mega Man Zero -5 (minus five). Once Zero is an option, he becomes my main. :)
X4 is my favorite Mega Man game also!
Me too. The only downside for me is that you can't crouch.
Heh Funny...because this is the game that make me stop play megaman x including megaman z .....well until megaman maverick hunter x release
Agreed I loved playing as zero

What do you mean "for its time"? The Japanese voice acting was the same then as it is now in the industry of anime.
@@F_Yale It's undeniable that voice acting in japanese media has improved since then, it's been 25 years.

Ngl, these reviews really got me interested in the x franchise. I used to really suck at them
but actually replaying them & learning the level design & boss pattern has really made me found a new appreciation for some of these games. Learning about least backtracking routes was really enjoyable too. It a weird way these reviews taught me these games aren’t as hard as I thought they were back then. You iust need to what your doing
Also to answer your question
It’s truly hard to say if megaman or mega man are ways to spell the name
But if I had to choose I’d say mega man
Same here. I always admired the X series even at its lowest. Whenever I see gameplay online, there's always some rhythm to it.
@@Moromom22 Even the worst MMX X-ecution can't undermine the solid control foundation.
The X series is really easy to get into for anyone, for the Zero series not so much, that game kick your ass left and right.
"XLCs"? Did you mistype "FMVs"?

It’s great to go over your old videos every so often to witness and appreciate how far you’ve come
Also have certain nostalgia for the 5th gen of consoles despite experiencing most of it “after” its heyday.
What PS1 games do you own?
Favorite X game and one of my favorite games in general. Pretty much everything is good to great, with the voice acting being the most obvious issue.
Regardless, I actually enjoy the story, especially their endings. Zero and X both wonder if becoming Maverick is an inevitability. Plus, it shows how much X trusts Zero by asking him to take care of him if it were to happen.
X meant "take care of me" as in "take me out [like an enemy]". He can only trust someone as powerful, skilled and knowing of him as Zero to be capable of doing that.

Long childhood story here.
When i first got this game on my ps1 my controller was not working properly (it was constantly holding DOWN without me pressing anything) so after the intro stage i only had 4 stages to play, frost walrus, slash beast, Jet stingray, and split mushroom. (this Last one i couldn't beat it because of a ladder section it had i believe)
Then by accident i held up on the d-pad when the game was loading the stage select screen and i could choose the other 4 stages, unless i released up, the controller would stuck me down again XD, anyway i still couldn't beat the game cause of ladder sections, Web spider stage has a long one on the first phase.
In my opinion…
The stages/bosses are way too easy to be anything all that interesting.

Boots up Megaman *X* 4

Choose Magma Dragoon as your first Maverick after the intro stage.
Oh yeah! Its the perfect way to start X4!
The worst part of this game is how Zero sounds just like Matt McMuscles: "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOR"
Iris! IRIS!
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 That irritated me as a younger, less sympathetic kid. I was like "She's dead. Give it up already.". And you obviously can't blame the localizing for that.
DAMN, that's some shade on BOTH of them.
@@CarbonRollerCaco I've been quoting that for years, loll... Shit almost decades...
X5 will always be my favorite because of the incredible soundtrack. X4 had some good tunes but X5 completely blows X4's soundtrack out of the water
Too bad X5 is mostly worse in every way
And in my opinion, X6 blows X5's soundtrack out of the water. Too bad X6 is an even more problematic than X5. But, X4, X5, and X8 hold special places in my heart. X4 is just the cleanest game, and the best for speedrunning.
never realized how the background magma effect on Magma dragoon's stage is animated more in sega saturn than it does in the ps1.
So is x4 a 32 bit game
Good man.
Every cutscene sounds like a poorly done fandub.
Glad to see X4 still holds up to this day! Always have been interested in playing it, but never got around to it.
Also, for some reason I always thought that classic Megaman was spelled without a space, but Mega Man X did have a space in it. Weird :/
i personally spell mega man as ロックマン because i don’t really like the mega man name
I really enjoy these videos. I found your channel by looking for Mega Man content after playing through the games again. I grew up playing Mega Man as I was in elementary school when the original games came out. I watched your original Mega Man videos and the Mega Man X videos up to this point. Thank you for putting out these awesome videos! Keep up the great work!
5:03 YO THAT MUSIC TRANSITION WAS SMOOTH AS HELL
When he says about the voice acting, I knew he was going to put *THAT* scene
Don’t forget that they were also released on PC. That’s where I played them
Glad to see ya re-reviewing these Mega man x games because with how your mindset has changed, it's nice to see them in a bit of a different light.
Looking forward to your re-reviews of the other Mega man x games and some other stuff as well.
I still remember walking into toys r us and buying this. Going home and me and my brother spending hours trying to figure out the bosses and their order
bro i just found your channel as i started playing through the megaman x games again. what great videos, thanks for getting into this my friend!
in fairness to the "Zero you were a maverick bit?" It could be read as a rhetorical question. Although I know real world it was a mistranslation

This will never not be funny to me.
i've always been of the opinion that it's one word because i view megaman as a similar tier hero to batman or superman. he's a MEGAman.
Great mini retrospective man! Hopefully we see Legends, Battle Network or the original MegaMan series at some point from you, it'd be awesome to hear your thoughts on those, keep up the great work!
To fulfill your destiny, to meet your true potential, I've prepared this for you, so that some day you might become my vision of the future"
Chills bro. Chills
These re-reviews are so much better than the original ones, you've really improved!
Did you know that the voice actress recording lines for X wasn’t even told she was recording for him in the same session as Mega Man 8?
Yeah the sessions for these games were a mess.
I’m 33 years old and the PSX boot up screen still gives me chills ❤
It's bad localization just that.
@@galten7361 Or it's what I said. Just that.
I actually used X's side weapons more in this than any X game before. Probaby because you can dual wield all of them with the buster, and because of the infinite ammo upgrade.
"pacebreaker" in this context just seems to mean "anything that wasnt simple to slash through at full speed" some people like difficulty, doesnt need to be full speed the whole time
Ever since Legends 1, I've always spelled it as Hippopotamus.
Really enjoying the reviews, thanks! Was surprised in this video that there was no mention of Black Zero or Ultimate X.
X worrying about going maverick was neat foreshadowing to MegaMan Zero where X did go maverick. Right up until the Zero series had to make major retcons so he didn't anymore.
It should be noted both Johnny Young Bosh and Lucas Gilbertson dubbed the infamous line from Zero. They hit pretty hard nowadays.
