I wouldn't go that far, but it is more enjoyable than I think most people would expect. By this point X's actor had become more natural-sounding with his portrayal, and I always enjoyed who I affectionately refer to as "Surfer Zero" from this age, although his modern actor does a fine job as well. X sounds genuinely pissed off at everything Sigma's done by the end of the game, and it sells the story even though the still images aren't as effective in that regard. Some of Dr. Light's dialogue is genuinely moving because of his delivery as well; old bastard had me getting misty-eyed at parts.
As for the origin of Sigma's scars, the MHX version makes more sense than the X4 version. After getting disfigured by Zero and repaired at Hunter HQ, it seems a bit silly to think that Sigma would tell the medics/mechanics, "Thanks for fixing me up fellas, but leave the scars, I actually like them." This is especially so since Sigma planned, whether earnestly or not, to continue leading the Maverick Hunters. After he is outed by X and Zero at the end of "Day of Sigma", Sigma has no reason to care about maintaining the valiant image of the Maverick Hunter commander. The scars are a mark of pride, for they symbolize the first step he took towards facilitating reploid evolution that day. Hence why he keeps them throughout all future conflicts from then on.
There's also the fact that they were shown to have been caused by literally ripping the skin off of his robotic face in X4, and they weren't even at that. Either way, I think your explanation makes a lot of sense in context
Though your explanation makes sense, I still think the X4 version could be justified with a bit of conjecture. Since Sigma was slowly becoming a Maverick after his fight with Zero, that would have affected his psychology to the point where he may well have chosen to keep his scars. Remembering how powerful Sigma's stated to be, it's likely he never lost a battle before entering Dr. Wily's lab - thus, the damage he sustained while fighting Zero, combined with his exposure to the Maverick virus affecting his judgment, would have led to his obsession with Zero and his origins. In that case, Sigma may well have opted to keep his scars as a constant reminder to himself about Zero, almost like a religious rite. Keep in mind, all Sigma's later bodies have the scars too; he has no reason to include these scars on his new bodies unless they serve some kind of purpose to him - to reinforce to himself that he must find out how to gain Zero's power.
Honestly, I've always regarded Day of Sigma as still canon. With that, I always figured Sigma did get his iconic scars but did get them fully repaired since he was still a good guy at the time and never bothered to get the scars fixed after Day of Sigma for the much the same reasons you said while also me thinking that he simply didn't really have the time to fix because y'know *revolution* and it just stuck.
@@hostiusasinhostilityhostil7853 You know what? It works in both "time lines". Sigma from the classic series is a madman or well ... mad machine. This guy is the embodiment of evil so being obsessed with Zero makes sense since as we know Zero true form is a God of destruction ... On the other hand, Sigma from this soft reboot, does lean towards evolution of Reploids more than anything and is obsessed with X and his limitless potential. Sigma attempted to destroy Zero with no hesitation which hints to the fact that he probably didn't care about Zero. It actually adds a bit of novelty to both takes on the story. Original Mega Man series were more tied to Zero than what you may think ... X is there, is just the guy who fights for justice and has a soft side for Reploids and Mankind, his development isn't entirely fresh out, while Zero gets a lot of plot and main action even behind scenes: X2, X4, X5, X6. Meanwhile we can clearly see MHX giving WAY more character to X than what we have throughout 8 installments from the original series. Have we gotten full remakes / soft reboots of X2 ~> X6, then I'm sure Zero story wouldn't have been the primary focus but rather we would have seen a full story covering the battle of X against Sigma.
Man. I was so dissapointed when I realized the Megaman games on the PSP weren't getting sequels. The creators of Megaman Maverick Hunter X and Megaman Powered Up put a TON of love into the games. The voice acting, extra modes, new playable characters, and cut scenes were amazing additions and they pulled them off incredibly well. My dream is that someday these two series get the sequels they deserve, but I'll settle for just re-releasing them on the Switch/Current Consoles so I could at least play them on something besides the PSP. Great video :)
2 things, those copter enemies always laughed at you when they hit x, and the hadoken can be performed by letting go of the shoot button after the input, so while charging for example, fixes that problem where you hit with a buster shot
@@MrTheMaxness That trick where you can release a button instead of pressing it to top off a fighting game special move command is called "negative edge". Pros abuse it a lot, say, to make combos or reversals easier. But it can also get in the way.
If you fire the buster shot before the Hadoken, you're pressing the button just too early and releasing it at the actual right time. Make sure you're firmly on the final direction before hitting the button.
Interesting note about how X feels heavier when he's wall jumping... I've always liked that feature, making him feel like a robot that's really mobile.
@@skibot9974 but they also make flaws from Gen 2 worse rather than fixing them like the horrendous level scaling that heavily discourages catching Pokémon if they aren't legendarys and the already limited TMs became even more limited etc...
no you can see wreckage in Spark Mandrels Stage in the SNES version as well, it isn't 3D but it's there the tubes are all shattered and you can see remnants. Also the little copter enemies laugh in the original but the animation is more subdued.
The animation isn't exactly more subdued, it's just so unexpressive that it may not have even be intended to be a laugh. It just sort of rapidly opens and closes its mouth for a second before continuing. For all we know, it's reacquiring its target.
Honestly, to me, Metroid Zero Mission is the best remake of a video game as it not only fix Metroid 1 for the modern audience, but even added new features and extras that made the remake feel more than just complete. Maverick Hunter X does feel like an alternate take on X1 rather than make it obscelete. Regardless, I still really enjoyed this review. Awesome stuff, man.
MZM beneficiates from the fact that Metroid is an NES game which, while it was great for its time, aged terribly badly like many of its contemporaries like Super Mario Bros. and the first Zelda. MMX came out at a time when game devs were starting to nail down that "good game feel" a lot of NES titles were lacking, and therefore couldn't be obsoleted so easily if not for a few game design mistakes which the PSP remake still made anyway (the intro stage is cool and teaches a lot about how to play the game, but is also boring to go through when you already know it). Both MZM and Maverick Hunter X came out at similar times, but the gap between the first Metroid and MZM is much bigger than that between MMX and Maverick Hunter X..
@@ArpeggioPegasus Super Mario Bros "aging terribly" is a heinous statement. I cannot even begin to agree with that. Zelda 1 is arguable but I would say it aged much better than Metroid 1. Metroid 1 is barely fun at all, Zero Mission turns it into a solid game by treating it as a blueprint for something much more interesting.
@@ArpeggioPegasus I know this is zoomerspeak because I was not even born when the game released, but I don't see how Metroid(1) was ever that good. It was done in like 2 weeks which is reflected in the Level-nondesign(and the few pieces of actual leveldesign are actually worse than the nondesign). And it oftentimes feels like Samus is simply not equipped to face the challenges she faces through her moveset. And then there are all of the annoying imperfections like enemies being able to follow you to the next room, thus beating you up during the door-transition. Yeah, I know that isn't the point, but I just wanted to speak my mind.
Yeah, Day of Sigma really isn't connected to mainline X1. Here, it seems the creators are trying to do away with the Maverick virus and give more complex motivations to Sigma's rebellion. Where in the mainline it seems that Sigma was corrupted by a virus created by Dr. Wily to originally control Zero. It's unfortunate that the game wasn't financially successful because it would be really interesting to see what changes they would do to the storyline on the following games.
I always thought of the virus being the final straw pushing Sigma into doing what he did, together with his own philosophy shown in the OVA. Both lores can coexist as canon as long as Cain manage to escape the explosion, which could've been explained in a sequel that never came to be, unfortunatell.
the virus overall didn't become a major part till after X1 so little mention in this game makes sense edit:if this was seen twice and/or in the wrong comment, youtube on my side is screwing with the display where it seems like I posted it to a different comment so I'm hoping it's under the right comment
It's likely that the OG Maverick Virus wasn't even a thing (from a development perspective in the real world) until after X3. It's not unreasonable to assume that in-universe, the existence of the Maverick Virus wasn't public knowledge until AFTER the events of X1 (original and remake).
@@LordMetalSonic1987 there’s development document dated to X1’s development that says otherwise which states the virus and Zero were completed roughly around the same time
Maverick Hunter remakes of X1-X6 were planned (They were even going to have a new, better story hence why The Day of Sigma has things that are different from the original story) but because it flopped everything was canceled and they decided for Powered Up remakes of MegaMan 1-6 but that flopped as well :(
Agreed. It was so sad that they didn't sell well. Maverick Hunter X and Powerered Up were TOP TIER remakes. I couldn't wait for the sequels....and was sad when I found out they weren't happening :(
Something about the voice acting that really stands out. Not only is this the best voice X has ever gotten, it's also Mark "Domon Kasshu" Gatha. In the Day of Sigma as seen at 19:18 in this video he even uses the Shining Finger. And on Sigma who is voiced by Master Asia. The voice actor love here was clearly evident.
It was always odd that X seemed to get increasingly shafted, narratively speaking, within his own series as the X series continued. I chalk it up to a combination of Inafune's favoritism (pre-X5 involvement) and Zero's popularity, but man did that tank any hope of significant character development for anyone in his orbit. And that's before taking into account the lackluster execution for many of the games' plots. It looked like Maverick Hunter X was the beginning of an attempt at some sort of course correction for X in terms of character focus, among other narrative modifications.
Probably because there wasn't much planned for him after his introduction. He's the last son of Dr. Light and the template for a new species of robots with the capacity for free will, and that's it. A martial pacifist designed as a 'savior' can only develop so far in a game focused on killing evil robots. There was an idea I saw someone bring up in the X7 review where instead of just quitting the Hunters, X becomes a mechanic and starts building upgrades for younger hunters like Axl, or even his own family (which sort of happened in the Zero series with the 4 Guardians). Imagine the conflict he would go through if one of those sons or daughters turned Maverick?
@@WhiteFangofWar There wasn't much planned after Zero's introduction either. The original intention was to kill him off permanently after X1, until Inafune had him resurrected, constructing a narrative for the character mid series. The same could've been done for X. Remember that X is a pacifist who does not practice absolute pacifism, and there's narrative potential in that. That's why X's shift in X7, while somewhat of a shakeup and a potentially interesting direction to take him in, ultimately fails his character. This would all require Capcom to make a more concentrated effort on narratives constructed within the games however, something that they rarely do throughout most of their franchises.
@@WhiteFangofWar I agree that such development is unlikely to occur under his media of origin considering the publisher's disposition. Even Zero's development isn't handled as well as it could be. X's more philosophical altercations might be better explored within an animated format given Cappy's track record.
@@user-kl3us9bw3u Not like it has to be top-notch character develop, just something to get us invested in the game. I also liked the idea of X becoming a kind of surrogate for Dr. Light, trying to emulate him but struggling. In a better-written X6, Gate would have been the perfect lab-coated foil to X. Would've been amazing to have a scene in a later game where Mavericks invade hunter base and close in on X, causing him to sigh, fling his labcoat off, and amp up his Buster before easily devastating them.
I'd argue X gets one of the worst hands dealt of any character of his standing. As a character he's surprisingly nuanced and relatable, with an internal struggle that's easy to explore and get onlookers invested in: the power to do anything and the will to do what's right, but being uncertain of himself and what the right thing to do even is. He questions his power and his agency in the world, and whether his fight is in the name of justice, or is actually contributing to the world's problems. X's infinite potential and ability to choose for himself actually troubles him tremendously, because he struggles to decide what to do with himself. Despite being one of the last robots of his age, he's ironically an extremely human character. Zero is a great foil to him not because he's cool, which the series -- and the fans as a result -- focus too much on, but because Zero always acts with conviction and is never uncertain; where X may hesitate, Zero acts without faltering. The way they both see and approach the world opens up more interesting storytelling than was ever bothered with, and it's a shame because of the setup the series gives right from the beginning: X has unlimited potential and possibility, but is that necessarily a _good_ thing? Meanwhile, Zero's destiny was decided for him, but he rejected it, choosing another path. Zero's own series touches on what might have happened if X didn't have Zero to counterbalance him, implying that in X's pursuit of righting the world's problems, he created bigger ones by mistake, but it doesn't explore these factors because it once again shoves X aside in favor of Zero, _twice,_ before killing him off unceremoniously altogether. Maverick Hunter X seemed to be primed to right such wrongs, focusing on and exploring the character more than ever, but once again, he was shoved aside in the real world. X deserved much better than what he got, in pretty much every measurable way.
I thought tying Sigma's motivation more directly to X was appropriate. There's a precedent for it, as in X8 Sigma mentions that he is indebted to X since it was X's dedication to 'justice' that "first got him thinking." It's possible to reconcile the virus plot thread and Sigma's obsession with X along with his focus on evolution.
Sigma also has an interesting dynamic with X from the beginning because of his status as the first Reploid -- in other words, the first robot designed using X as a blueprint. Right from the beginning he could have a motivation to be unlike X that makes sense, because he was deliberately designed to be like him. He could even see himself as _superior_ to X, having come later, and that could be reinforced by the fact that he ends up taking command over X despite X otherwise being his senior. This would imply that Sigma becomes a Maverick of his own volition as much as anything, because it's an excuse to come into direct conflict with X to challenge his views and prove his superiority. You'd think it writes itself, until you see that they somehow managed not to.
It in turn makes things like Storm Eagle and Chill Penguin turning in Day of Sigma interesting, because they seem in their right minds, not like they've just suddenly gone berserk, which implies that while some Mavericks may end up that way against their own will, at the very least some Mavericks defected because they agreed with Sigma from an ideological standpoint, or at least that it was ultimately a decision on their part; Penguin flat-out says rolling with Sigma just pays better. Eagle won't talk, but you learn later in Day of Sigma that he's a noble and honorable character, so you wonder why he ends up doing what he does, and he seems to even regret it to some extent. Even freakin' _Vile_ isn't portrayed as just a brainless rogue; when asked by Sigma at the end of his scenario what he planned to do if he actually beat X, he admits that he actually had no idea, to which Sigma doesn't even give an opinion; he just leaves while giving an order to retrieve Vile's broken body. Vile then gives himself a motivation afterward by saying that by beating X, someone whose status as "special" doesn't make any sense to him based on what he's seen of him, he in turn justifies his own existence. He's still capable of making cognizant decisions, even if his motivations are twisted. This builds on a narrative thread of a conflict that X causes without even knowing it: that despite X being a good person that pursues righteous goals, some Reploids come to resent him anyway because he makes them feel inferior or like they have to prove something in spite of him. Even in the case of Repliforce from X4, some Reploids that ultimately had the same goals as X come into conflict with him because of the politics of the world, not because were later affected by a virus or decided to cause trouble out of nowhere; they're branded Mavericks over a misunderstanding, but lean into it because they believe the reaction they received to be a symptom of a greater problem, that of oppression from humans against Reploids. X has to defeat them because he believes he should maintain peace and stop Reploid uprisings, but what that game never explores is whether he handled the situation the right way. Again, it almost seems _too_ easy to explore these themes, and the series even did do so on rare occasions, like with Gate in X6, although the atrocious translation makes it hard to know that: even though Gate does lose his mind because of the virus, his story is tragic because of what happens to him beforehand. He isn't just an evil character that wants to be evil; you learn later that he was a decent person that was screwed and sabotaged by his colleagues, causing him to become bitter and cynical about the world and opening him to the influence of the virus, creating an interesting villain, even if one that still has to be stopped. Even the eight boss Mavericks of the game are tragic, as you learn they sabotaged and murdered by the same plot against Gate, and forced to live again in service of his plan, but in many cases feeling indebted to him and _choosing_ to go through with it anyway. This kind of shit is interesting, and it just never gets its fair due. Curse you and your trademark bumbling, Capcom.
wait, i think there is much more depth to the idea of the virus corrupting the world, especially with its interaction with Z, X and sigma himself. with Z it double negatives him into a positive, with X he's immune due to his nature, and with sigma it alters his logical thinking. that's way more juice than making a standard villain even if it's a good one
furthermore X is not the only original reploid. Zero is also an original build of equal capability, just not as adaptive. but still boasts the same freedoms of learning and having feelings as X does, where reploids fall short. don't get me wrong, X is cool, but in terms of evolution sigma could chase after the krabby patty recipe for either of them and obtain similar results. the virus simply pushes sigma to pursue zero and power him up due to, well, you know. the virus is made by wily, zero is made by wily to destroy everything. stuff like that. ;)
Played Maverick Hunter X so much when I was younger. I loved rewatching the little movie and rewatching the intro a bunch while enjoying it's music. Vile was difficult but fun with the customization with his weapons for me. I loved all of it. My brother and I really wanted a sequel to this in hopes they'd remake a lot of the series in this style. At the very least the next 2 games that -are of course, great on their own and I still enjoy them today- didn't have dialogue. I've always wanted to see the revamped style and cut scenes between x and the bosses. Maybe they would've added more too. This will always be a treasured gem of a game for me. Enjoyed the video and have a nice day everyone.
HGSS is a pretty awesome remake, and I like what I've seen from FF7, though I've yet to play it. KH Final Mixes are pretty nice too. A successful remake needs a couple things to stand on its own: graphical/artstyle enhancement, expanded world/gameplay, and doing what the original could do on top of that.
@@randomduck8679 Interesting, might this be said due to the shift in gameplay or episodic nature? I could still picture a pieced-together remake as a remake, and to call it a reboot or sequel is probably spoilers, but that'd mean it goes out of its way to go past the story of FF7, and now my curiosity has peaked.
@@runningoncylinders3829 FF 7 Remake deviates heavily from original FF 7. Besides adding more characterization to the side characters, the plot is not one to one anymore. The episodic nature isn't helping since we have no timeline of when the next part will release. Whether the next part will follow original 7 or go it's own way is yet to be seen but for now it's more of a reboot than a remake.
Also, on that note, the KH Final Mixes are less remakes and more updated re-releases, though bringing up the distinction is probably going to open up a whole can of worms on the topic.
The ship wreckage is actually present in the SNES version of Spark mandrill's stage, as well, you see bits and pieces of it in the background at the start of the stage.
24:54 I think it's because Maverick Hunter X and Powered Up weren't the _only_ Mega Man games releasing in their respective years; because Capcom wouldn't pump the breaks, the releases of these games kinda came across as Capcom competing with themselves.
Pretty much. MegaMan was Call of Duty prior to COD releasing games every year. It was bad during the classic era but at the 2000s, Capcom was releasing multiple a year which is why the franchise collapsed on itself especially with sales. If I remember right ZX advent didn't even crack 6 figures on copies sold. And that was the last game to be released physically until 11. That's why it was my belief that Capcom was so hesitant on releasing new games until 11. And the long wait was worth it for them since 11 was the highest selling MegaMan game since MegaMan 2.
It is also worth noting that a LOT of PSP games underperformed. The system had a very large piracy problem, as it turned out their security features were trivially bypassed very early. The ridiculously heavy-handed lockdown you see on the Vita was a fairly direct response to that.
They just did that remake too soon, imagine if it were announced when we had Megaman drought after Megaman 10, Capcom suddenly tells us they are remaking entire X series on 3DS or maybe even Switch or any other platform, we would collectively shit our pants from enjoyment. But back then we simply had too much Megaman. Sad it had to end this way because i believe if Maverick Hunter X was re-released it would do much better and maybe there would be a chance of the entire X series remake (just think about the possibilities, X6 and X7 finally being good, the potential was always there, execution sucked balls).
Honestly I'd be interested to see the MHX reboot play out similarly if it seemed to be going the route of X and his limitless potential being Sigma's main focus rather than Zero and his Maverick origins. I think this could have led to a good number of story differences later on and it would have been interesting to see how X vs Zero in X5 would have played out. Maybe Sigma's plan would be trying to awaken X's true potential somehow rather than Zero's. Maverick Hunter X could have been a great way to remaster and give Capcom a second chance to fix any flaws with the X series. Maybe even shifting focus away from Sigma as the central antagonist and giving more of a spotlight for later villains. Edit: Honestly a "Limitless X" boss fight in place of the Ultimate Armor X we get in X5 would be so cool. Perhaps making use of that potential to use techniques such as the Hadouken and Shoryuken on top of Special Weapons from the past 4 games instead of just X4.
A tiny bit off topic but the Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga remake I always thought was great, it felt like it polished a lot of things in the original that needed improvement, specifically the battle system.
Yeah it was actually good with the quality of life Ofc Partners in time didn’t get a remake in place of the one we won’t speak of because I like the ORIGINAL version of that game a lot more and was able to play it through the backwards compatibility!
I love Superstar Saga. But I do prefer the remake more because of the improved battle system and whatnot. Despite some lack of charm, I enjoyed it and would replay it more times than the original. Now if only Partners in Time gotten an remake. That game needs alot of improvements.
@@jaretco6423 I think pixel Graphics shouldn’t have been tossed out like yesterday’s trash but I do like the quality of life improvements that the remake on 3DS was And it was necessary because superstar saga could only be played on GBA!
Warrior. Yeah. I still have alot of nostalgia with the original Superstar Saga though. Since that was my very first RPG game I've played. So I still have an soft spot for the original.
I think the tragedy of Dr. Light's message is that for all of Light's commentary about X being the hope of the future, the only reason the future is in the crummy state it's in is because of X, and all the threats are based on the technology he provided.
vile mode is one of my personal favorites when it comes to bonus /additional content , even though he can use 3 weapons at a time he is still powerful like some of his attack can shred a boss life in seconds life golden punch or burning drive and etc. Remember in the Snes zero said vile was a war machine now we can see why he has an arsenal of weapons starting from ,finger tip vulcans , missles, rocket punch , cannon , lasers ,cutter , napalm, flamethrower and BALLS . finishing the campaign lets you use any abilities in stage without any limit
Definitely would loved to see a Maverick Hunter X2, as the original is my favorite of the series. Like with Vile, they could have introduced a mode where you play as the X-Hunters and give them personality like the rank and file Mavericks, as well as possibly a Zero mode since he returns and starts his reveal in that game. I also liked the idea of having optional bosses notably tougher than the rest hidden in stages and wish it would return for another MM game. X6 did something like that but like most of its' ideas it underperformed. Vile is definitely the unofficial hard mode for this game, being much weaker than X. It's funny how he's just messing up Sigma's grand plans out of jealousy.
What I really like about the remake is that Sigma's motivation is not the "Zero Virus" thing making him evil, but an ambition caused by an unfortunate speech of his creator. So it could have push more the development of the conflict about "are mavericks really mavericks?" in later games (at least that's what I think they "tried" to do in X4).
really hope capcom's new direction tries again with maverick hunter x & powered up as it would've been great to have seen how the story would've changed like maybe introducing iris(maybe give the option to save her/build her relationship with zero more with more cutscenes.:3),repliforce(have a better reason for the fight and the ones working for sigma matter, could be holding zero's body parts for x in maverick hunter x 2.) & alia(could have her replace double as x's navigator introducing her better with her relationship to x.)/the other navigators(in x8 layer mentions zero flying the shuttle in x5.:3) early or reworking parts of it like in x4,x5(especially dr. wily/light living on as spirits in the light capsules/virus.) and x6 or the extreme games. as i loved maverick hunter x's story with it's changes(i consider it canon as i like sigma getting his eye scars from x more,he should have way more scars if it was from x4 zero/it showing on sigmas face before the wolf form and dr. cain's death early honestly is for the better as outside causing the maverick war he really doesn't do much in x2-x3 and gets unceremoniously dropped after a mention in x4 to where he could be written out & replaced by repliforce introducing iris early, alia or even dr. doppler/gate.) really showing x's character(favorite being in the end with his dialogue and how outside the weakness/hadoken the fully charged shot being able to hurt wolf sigma showing his potential.) & world as long gone from the classic days which i felt the most in dr. light in the credits(actually got almost teary seeing him talking to x/how close to his end yet hopeful he looked that it really made me question "what DID happen to classic megaman or roll?" as i kinda expected to at least hear them coming to see him.).
I really loved this game and how it fleshed out the mavericks especially Vile and i loved how it showed more of Xs past with Dr Light and how Sigma was like before becoming evil. I am really sad that we will probably not get a continuation to Maverick Hunter X since it would have been so cool to see the the other Mavericks getting fleshed out as well.
Speaking of remakes, as controversial as this might sound, I thought pokemon or/as were miles better than the originals (never played emerald tho) with many qol changes and new features to make hoenn more enjoyable overall. Definitely one of the more enjoyable pokemon games.
There is nothing controversial if the proper frame of reference is missing(In this case Emerald). It's like saying it would be controversial to say Post-patch BDSP has a lot of things over OG DP.
You don't miss out on anything good by not playing Emerald tbh, as to give you the idea what playing Emerald is like when you have only played ORAS is that remove all QoL stuff and improved moves Pokémon learn etc, and now stop every once and a while for added dialog that usually doesn't add much and for the phone that keeps interrupting you, go beat the villain teams base twice for no reason and for the climax of the villains story you just watch a cutscene of a yelling snek instead of saving the day yourself by beating or capturing the Legendary.
I do agree that the details are a lot more clear, but some were in the original. The laughing enemies, the toll booth, and while not as clear or cool as having the entire ship being crashed in the opening of Spark Mandrill, there are bits of the ship littering the floor, as well as an entire tube shattered.
In the SNES version of Mega Man X1: * Copter enemies always laughed when they hit you. * Wreckage of Storm Eagle's airship litter the level of Spark Mandril's stage if you beat Storm Eagle's stage before going to Spark Mandril's stage (that is also why there is no power for the miniboss, among other things). * In order to get the Hadouken part, you can also get it by taking no damage. So nothing was changed.
in terms of why MHX didn't do well... I can think of two reasons. One is, yes, it being on the PSP. The problem is that the PSP wasn't really a "hit" like the PS2, or the DS were *Not to say the PSP didn't sell well but given how the DS kinda was slapping it around and the PS2 lasted until 2013...* and the other was pretty much the same thing that led X8,CM and Powered up to kinda suffer as well. Mega Man oversaturation. the Series was pretty much being fired off on to pretty much every system at the time in some form or other until ZXA and SF3 flopped in sales and while MM9 and 10 did bring it back for a bit, the behind the scenes stuff at Capcom really killed the series until The legacy collections brought enough money in to get us MM11. as for the story fitting into the main canon, the only really big issue is the fact that they killed off Doctor Cain so early. Sigma could of have still been 'in control' of himself and still of have been focused on X until X took him down that first time... and then each game up until X5 could be the Virus simply gaining more ground and Using Wiley's influnce to get Him more focused on Zero, it's REAL body. And then X6 is Gate bring Sigma back out of A:Desperation and B:Spite*Because I can see Gate being that petty*, X7 being Sigma interested in Axl's copy abilties and X8..yeah, we know how that ends. The eye scars are honestly easy to explain. Sigma got the Damage from Zero fixed but opted to keep the ones from X as a reminder of X's power.
I think they could easily fix it if the Dr. Cain in MMX 3 is a reploid with the memories of Dr. Cain, pretty much like Dr. Light in his capsules, or Dr. Willy himself with the appearances he had in MMX (never confirmed, but with strong clues it was him). Maybe they were preparing this for an interesting plot later on in the series, who knows! (Or maybe Cain doesn't really die, and the scene was just done for dramatic purposes. I've seen very often the scenario in manga and anime where a character seemingly dies from an explosion or something but "actually the character didn't die at that time! plot twist).
i really loved the dialogues and the voice acting on this game. its really sad that we didnt get to see a maverick hunter x2 game, its would be so neat
About the story about Sigma, you could theories that after his dead in X1, he got back to life by the X Hunter and they have the blue print to rebuilt Zero, which when he take a lot at it, his interest began to shift more from X to Zero, his opinion about X is still there but the guy is paying more attention toward Zero kinda such
Maverick Hunter X is one of my favorite games of all time. It was YEARS of fun for me as a kid, when I had no internet. It actually took me months of replaying the levels over and over to discover the first hidden armor piece. After that, the game changed completely for me. It's so cool how you can replay the game 10 different ways and have 10 different experiences. Every level is different depending on the order in which you play. I definitely recommend NOT getting the arm piece because it makes Zero's death so much more impactful when he gives you his piece. Only complaint I have is some bosses were WAY too easy when you used their weakness on them. Spark Mandrill's weakness to shotgun ice was just pathetic.
I haven't played Maverick Hunter X, but as a major Zero series fan, that scene with X looking at Zero's empty-seated bike really hit me in the feels...
This and MegaMan X8 are what sparked my LOVE for MegaMan, and specifically my favorite character of ALL TIME Zero ❤️ (I think it probably wouldn't have flopped if it wasn't for the piracy on the PSP :c )
I like zero too, especially in the intro to mmz. So cool how he just easily tears through the army that seconds ago was dominating the battlefield, while still confused and underppowered. Personally he isn’t as cool as bass or proto man though
This was one of my first PSP games, alongside Daxter and Sega Genesis Collection. This remake is the reason why I got interested in the X games from before X4 and X5. I had played some of the X games via X Collection on PS2 before this one, but it really got my attention with Maverick Hunter X. I do like this game. It's not my favorite and can frustrate me at times, but I like it. Now when I say it frustrates me, I mean even just Normal mode, so I have never even tried hard mode and I just gave up on the Vile playthrough lol. Also that Day of Sigma video really made me want a full Mega Man X anime. Anyway, I like the game and this is a great video.
What makes this game is that came out way before the renaissance of remakes we have today. More than a decade ago remakes were either terrible or just graphically enhanced ports of older games with a few minor additions. But this game would've been considered the golden standard if it had sold better but alas. Ultimately, it had the misfortune of being on the wrong console at the wrong time.
Maverick Hunter (along with FF: Crisis Core) were the main reasons I bought a PSP. The fact that the game looks great and adds new experiences with the Vile campaign makes it so worth playing (especially the "Day of Sigma" movie way before it was available on TH-cam). Thanks for reminding me that you can also get the Hadoken in this version!
Personally I loved Maverick Hunter X, I found the story elements much more interesting then I thought I would, just having more insight into each character interacting with one another, especially playing as Vile, I found it a surprise once I finished the game and the Title Screen changed, only further surprise seeing being able to play as another character.
i thought Vile's campaign was fun, it starts out really difficult with your crappy starter weapons and then he becomes super op towards the end once you get his versions of storm eagle's weapon and can use it without an ammo meter like x
The fact that not a *single* Mega Man "classics" compilation includes Maverick Hunter X (but they somehow DO include the anime videos of it? I mean WTF? ) is the MAIN reason why I still have a PSP GO ! For me it's just the best all around Mega Man experience and it would be perfect with newer hardware in a Mega Man compilation on something like a Steam Deck. And whoever did the METAL/Hardrock remake of the soundtrack should get a prize for it. Definitely the best remake of a soundtrack I've heard.
the mega man psp game was my window into playing mega man x for the first time. i played the ever living shit out of it. had so much fun in vile mode and main campaign respectively. glad it was made and i was able to enjoy it during the psp era.
In terms of gameplay definitely is one of the _worst_ in my opinion. The gameplay is very janky and doesn't flow like the original Megaman X for SNES, and I don't know they managed the game to play worse. But yeah, all the extra bits of story, anime cutscenes, the voice acting and Vile Mode are amazing.
Glad to see you doing this one again. I really loved this game. I need to play it more often. And Powered Up is great. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it!
I remember when the plan was, according to CAPCOM, to remake Mega Man X through Mega Man X6. Same with Mega Man through Mega Man 6. I would have loved to see one of my all-time favorite Mega Man games, Mega Man 3, updates with the POWERED UP graphics.
Regarding the classic series, Capcom claimed they planned on remaking Mega Man 1-8. It would've been nice to see that cringe localization ("DIE WILY!") from MM7 replaced with dialogue closer to the original scene. Not to mention MM8's entire body of voice work (Dr. Wahwee).
So I've been a lurker to your vids over the past few days now and your vids made me go play X6 this week as I bought X Legacy Collection 2 back in 2020 on a sale and left it there. Here's the thing, I've been playing X4 and X5 around 2010 on a friend's PS1 but I was able to get my PSP around 2011 and it's where I played Maverick Hunter X and installed PS1 Eboots on that PSP, X4-6, which is why I'm so hesitant to play Legacy Collection until I stumbled on your channel about these reviews, specifically X7 and X8 reviews which I still haven't played and the sole reason why I bought Legacy Collection 2 over 1. I'm currently blazing through X6 now and I had no idea how 11yr old me finished these games easily. But as I was saying, Maverick Hunter X and X4-X6 has been my games since 2011-2013 and this channel just made me go back to the X Timeline as I'm mostly a Classic, Zero/ZX and Battle Network Fan. Man there's just alot of Nostalgia to MHX for me and I still don't like Vile Mode, I might consider going back sometime along with Powered Up.
I'd love a MMX game where Vile is the main villain. He isn't some idealist with an agenda like Sigma, he just wants to destroy everything because he can, is programmed to. As a war machine. It would be amazing if the Sigma/Maverick virus infected Vile but evolved in a way that makes reploids more independent, but chaotic. With no purpose other than to destroy everything.
Another great review! I love that the bike in the end reminds me of the bike at the beginning of X2. It’s a shame we’ll never see that, as I believe they would definitively address Wily’s involvement, even if it’s purely in the form of the virus itself.
20:57 If I remember right, the final form of Sigma being vulnerable to the Hadouken was a thing that was added in the MHX remake. He was immune to it in the original, even if you could have the hands raise high enough to hit him with it.
after watching years of clabe speedruns i can confirm you cannot infact hadouken final sigma and considering how hard people want that time save, it's safe to say you never will without cheating either
as for how you'd hit him with it if you wanted to see for yourself that it doesn't work, you'd have to perform a pause trick where you jump to the correct height, pause, unpause, and hadouken on the first frame out of the pause. this can be done because megaman registers as standing for a single frame after unpausing the game
@@BlinzerOmega I have an odd Mandela Effect memory of managing to do it once. I even felt so proud about it! So it's weird. But I had a Japanese Rockman X, not an English Megaman X. Maybe it works there and my memory of that time isn't fake D:
A few notes about vile mode since I went and beat it again yesterday, Vile is not as mobile as x, but taking the right weapons with you can shred bosses even if they aren't specifically weak to them. It really feels like you're playing as a war machine. But it would have been nice for him to have a dash, as the PSP has enough buttons to support this and his 3 weapon system. I do agree on your sentiment about the item placement however, it was just kinda weird. I'd like to see this game brought to console or PC with an HD remaster. I would buy it again.
Yoo i was playing that game in school on my psp around the same time. It was great. Powered Up made me basically Git Gud but then Maverick Hunter X made me do it all over again. Really great games those are.
The game felt heavier to play for me too and I think it's partly because you're way too zoomed in on X. I always felt like I needed the camera to be further away and give me room to breathe. It never stopped me from playing the game or anything. It's just something I noticed when replaying this great remake
MHX is the only X game I've played (thanks to PS+ handing out random PSP games for Vita owners) and I find it criminal Capcom didn't go further with it as a series of remakes. Powered Up too, but I still have yet to experience that beyond watching a let's play. I fell in love with the story presentation and absolutely adored how Vile's mode plays out. I like to consider the way it ends to be how that section of the game goes over the original. Idk, maybe it's the idea that the character I was playing was such a threat it too the two best Maverick Hunters to just barely beat him was empowering. It also showed a twisted evolution to contrast how X develops as a character and I love well executed foils. The Maverick Hunter concept should definitely be revisited. It'd be a great way to try and get new audiences interested in Megaman X I think. Worked for me anyway.
Yet another weekly W for J's Reviews 😎 I'm looking forward to the next MegaMan X videos! Especially XDive since I play it so often. This video also encouraged me to go ahead and play Maverick Hunter X too!
Even if we did get a Maverick Hunter X 2, which I really wished we did. Would have loved to have seen that. The voice actor for X; Mark Gatha, had already planned to retire from voice acting after his dialog for this game was complete. 2006
I always found Vile's mode the best part about the remake! Seriously it is a completely new take on the game to play as the less mobile powerhouse. It's like playing MegaMan X as the doom guy. You get a ton of weapons and need to get creative for some parts of the level to get through the sections that would require mobility. I admit it has a learning curve to it! I had to play through the game 2 times as Vile before it clicked for me. But once you master his Playstyle, he is even more fun to play as X. And the same can be true for Powered Up: Playing as so many character is way more fun than having the classic MegaMan playstyle over again. But there some characters are way better than others...
I lost it at the Squidward comparison for Launch Octopus, that had me in tears. And yeah I agree, Mark Gatha was a phenomenal voice actor for X. It's shame he left the VA industry since the only other role I knew him from offhandedly was Irvine from the dubbed rendition of Zoids: Chaotic Century. At first I thought the guy they got to voice X in MVCI was gonna be decent but the more I listened to him the more I realized his voice is way too nasally and premature sounding for a character like X, heading more in the direction of the sinfully awful voice actor he had in X4.
This game... This game has a place in my heart. I discovered Megaman X thanks to it. Unlocking the Hadoken as X, and fighting both X and Zero as Vile.... What a game. What... A masterpiece. I loved it.
First game my uncle bought for his PSP, Veatiful Joe Red Hot Rumble included. I couldn't stop watching the animated movies, an entire movie explaining how Sigma became the villian of the X saga and he was working shoulder by shoulder with X? Sign me in. Possibly using a downgraded version of the Megaman X8 engine it feels precise and sleek. Character models are really good too, it has decent english voice acting now as well. The music goes hard with the remixes. Altrough I didn't finish Vile Story at the time because is freakin' hard. It is a nice addition to the whole package. A good upgrade to the X games that sadly Capcom gave birth and died in the same entry.
I'm a huge mmx need. Loved MHX , The Day Of Sigma was making me hopeful for an actual mmx anime. That would of been awesome ! I was also hoping for mmx2 and mmx3 being remade in this style, seeing as how Mega max X dive so easily recreated some enemies and characters in MHX style
I feel bad for this game because I wanted to get this game when it was first announced but I never had easy access to get the game myself. I got the game years later and played it myself and I loved it. The potential for this rebooted series could've been something great because of the characterization that was added. I wish they could at least release a port of this game on modern consoles just to give it some acknowledgment. But yeah, Megaman also came out in many shapes and sizes over the years in an overwhelming amount and it caused burnout which did more damage in the long run. Nowadays people crave more Megaman. If Megaman 11 is anything to go by, there could be new ways to invigorate the series. But only time will tell I suppose. Right now it current sits at my 4th favorite X game of the ones I played.
it's my favourite remake of all time, that's for sure also, I like that it's a PSP game because the DS wouldn't have been able to handle its graphics should've had a PS2 version though
This was the game that introduced me to the Mega Man franchise as a whole. Since I was 12, I had a rough time beating it, but over time I eventually got better. I felt this did a good job putting younger players in X's shoes, as you grow stronger with him. Overall, this is one the best video game experiences I've ever had (next to Sonic Unleashed) and this review brought back a ton of good memories.
I really enjoyed listening to your review. I myself was one of the people that really loved this game. I still do. The game did a lot of things right with a few parts it could've done without. One of the things I wished was corrected was the first fight with Vile where you couldn't beat him. That should've been kept the same as the original to give that emphasis that beating Vile was futile and to show how you have a ways to go before you can fight him on equal terms. Another part was the control motion for the Hadoken. I got better, but it still didn't feel fluid in the motions. And while I loved the storyline, I do wish they stayed close to the continuity better. But overall, I loved the new features they put into the game. The revamped music and character designs along with the graphics with the voice acting just made the game fun and filled with nostalgia. Hearing the emotions put into the character really committed you even further. Not only that but the Voice Actor for X was also none other than the voice of Domon Kasshu from G-Gundam! The replay factor of getting a new difficulty level and getting to play Vile with his own story made the game more interesting. And Vile's gameplay amped up the difficulty setting which was tough, but enjoyable. Especially with the reward of being able to epuip any variation of weapons when you beat the game. Not only that but the small details made the game more fun. Like in the Highway scene seeing all the traffic moving in the background or the way the energy flows in during the fight with Spark Mandrill. And then you had the fight with Sting Chameleon where whichever side he's on the eye matches the correct look whereas the SNES didn't do that. I know I'm saying a lot, but the game really holds a lot of sentiment to me. You can tell that the team that worked on this game put their heart and soul into Maverick Hunter X. I get a lot of Mega Man 2 vibes from it. It really made me happy that the team did that. I think my only real complaint was that both Maverick Hunter X and Powered up didn't get enough PR hyping the games up. I caught wind of the games by a fluke and was lucky to get my hands on them. I was really looking forward to seeing a Powered Up 2 and Maverick Hunter X2. Now it's right there next to my dreams of seeing a ZX3 and a Legends 3. Still, I'm happy they made it. Oh yeah, before I head out, is it me or did you get Batman vibes the second time you fought Chill Penguin and he did a squawk similar to the Penguin? Anyways, thanks again for the review. I really did enjoy checking it out.
Day of Sigma is half canon to later games as it is a some kinda of animated remake of the "novel" Cain's Diary from the SNES game's manual, and Sigma wouldn't care less for X in previous games because he was writen as "pure evil inmortal villain", hence why he is a virus and the whole maverick virus thing, and his conection to Zero that was writen from the start by Inafune, but MHX changes Sigma's motivations to match the revolutionary stuff seen in X8 as that game was telling that Sigma didn't go mad because of the virus, but the virus just boosted Sigma's intentions.
Never knew this came out as a remake . I got the switch collection downloaded. I'm wanna play it just to see coz I loved x1 on snes what a dream game it was. I wanted to see the weapon upgrade screen coz that was cool to me as a kid to see that 3 d blue print of x when you get a new weapon
Now that Sony is bringing PSP games to PS4 and PS5 with the new Playstation Plus I really hope this game makes it to new consoles, I love this remake and it would be awesome to be able to re-play it in HD.
I’m still angered that both Mega Man Powered Up and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X did not do well in sales and excitement. I really wanted to see Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 in those Powered Up graphics and gameplay and sound changes. I certainly hope CAPCOM revisits Powered Up and Maverick Hunter to allow for more early Mega Man titles to receive the upgraded treatment.
MegaMan Powered Up is really fun! It's so cool finally being able to play as all the robot masters and Roll! Although you have to find all the DLC online and load it onto the memory card yourself since you can't download it anymore...
One of the few PSP games I still need to check out, it sounds really great and the added voice dialogue really seems to flesh out the world and characters more. Weird that they never ported this to the X Legacy Collections
I love this game to death. The only flaw it has imho is the fact that Vile's theme plays during all stages in vile mode, which gets old really fast despite being an amazing song. And would be amazing as well to have a Zero mode after you beat Vile mode, but that's just me being greedy. Btw Vile Mode is my main reason to go back to it, nothing in the series feels the same. Yes, the beginning is really difficult, but you become such a powerhouse later in the game with massive spread miniguns and the arched flame throwers that you can use to take out enemies without getting into their shot range if you're smart enough. Makes you really connect with the character and his desire to grow stronger and surpass X, leading up to the final battle against him and Zero. I do agree that it is really a shame that it never got to the sequels, and those deserve the remake treatment as much, if not more than the 1st one. 2 in particular, which is really lackluster imo, could be so greatly improved upon. Also, I'll never forgive Capcom for not including this in the X legacy collection. It really deserved to be there. They could've even used the models for an X8 themed X challenge on the part 2, it would be great.
Good review, the only thing I should say is this is a separate continuity, all the Mavericks personalities and other details like Sigma's scars are different from the original continuity
Maverick hunter X was my first introduction to MMX1, I had player X3-5 back when I was a kid but when I got my PSP I remember playing MHX and I loved it so much that I kept playing it seeing how fast I could beat it. After playing it so much I decided to play the original and I kept playing that one because it was easier to emulate around and from that moment onward I played every single MMX games. I ended up replaying MHX last month and I forgot how much I loved it, I also remembered how damn broken storm eagle weapon is in the remake, it's nowhere near as effective in the original compared to the remake. One thing about the canon is that with the remakes they were planning to rewrite the canon but since it sold so bad they just left everyone with a now noncanon retelling of why Signa went maverick and who gave him his scars. What I also love about the remake is the voice acting, I really like how pissed X is and Zero voice is so fitting, it's a shame that X voice actor retired from VA after MHX
When I think about how there was initial plans to do Maverick Hunter remakes for every game up to X6 but they didn't come to fruition due to this game's poor sales I get really bummed out, man. MHX is great and I would have loved so much to see what kind of updates and innovations that would have been made with the subsequent games in both gameplay AND story. Had the full MHX series played out it's story retelling of the first six games would have more coherently flowed into how the MegaMan Zero series kicks off and that's also a big missed opportunity in my eyes.
We've hadn't had an X game in such a long time. A return to the series would be amazing so long they don't screw it up. Also sad that we never got a continuation to the Maverick Hunter X series. Would've been nice to see an X2 and X3 with this same treatment with the story. I prefer the OG games but the story telling in MHX was top tier.
The Voice acting is probably the best part of this game. It adds so much personality to the game
This is true. I was impressed and even loved the scene during the X and Zero fight with Vile.
THIS HAND OF MINE IS GLOWING BLUE!
It does but I keep thinking x is going to yell gundam fight ready? whenever I hear it
@@minorfffanatic I understood that reference....
WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI!!!
With that, I always figured Sigma did get his iconic scars but did get them fully repaired since he was still a good guy at the time and never bothered to get the scars fixed after Day of Sigma for the much the same reasons you said while also me thinking that he simply didn't really have the time to fix because y'know *revolution* and it just stuck.
wait
am i the only one who figured the scars were the evil virus flowing through him and the robot equivalent of veins lol
That's a pretty sweet feature, because you can do that in Street Fighter as well!
I noticed that for those miner robots but I've never seen those enemies doing that
It's nice to see there's still new things to see in a game that old
Thanks for the HADOOOOKEN tip.
Yea, I definitely prefer the heaviness of X's movements. Other Mega Man games have made him feel more floaty and less satisfying
The best remakes ever in my book are Metroid: Zero Mission and the Resident Evil 1 Remake. They’re so good they straight up replace the original.
RE1 remake just has peak vibes omg
I have YET to see a remake more better or at least the same as Zero Mission no reason to play the original over the remake
The thing is better
Yep gotta agree to that.
Yup yup. The wreckage wasn't _quite_ as obvious in the original, but it was definitely there.
The animation isn't exactly more subdued, it's just so unexpressive that it may not have even be intended to be a laugh. It just sort of rapidly opens and closes its mouth for a second before continuing. For all we know, it's reacquiring its target.
@@AzhreiVep J missed it because of the dimming effect and his own impatience, not because there were fewer scraps overall.
It's unfortunate that the game wasn't financially successful because it would be really interesting to see what changes they would do to the storyline on the following games.
tbh both can work, after all the maverick virus is too important to the x lore to be throw away.
I always thought of the virus being the final straw pushing Sigma into doing what he did, together with his own philosophy shown in the OVA. Both lores can coexist as canon as long as Cain manage to escape the explosion, which could've been explained in a sequel that never came to be, unfortunatell.
the virus overall didn't become a major part till after X1 so little mention in this game makes sense
edit:if this was seen twice and/or in the wrong comment, youtube on my side is screwing with the display where it seems like I posted it to a different comment so I'm hoping it's under the right comment
It's likely that the OG Maverick Virus wasn't even a thing (from a development perspective in the real world) until after X3.
It's not unreasonable to assume that in-universe, the existence of the Maverick Virus wasn't public knowledge until AFTER the events of X1 (original and remake).
@@LordMetalSonic1987 there’s development document dated to X1’s development that says otherwise which states the virus and Zero were completed roughly around the same time
The fact that more games did not come after this one is shocking.
You got to play as Vile, what more could you ask for.
Maverick Hunter remakes of X1-X6 were planned (They were even going to have a new, better story hence why The Day of Sigma has things that are different from the original story) but because it flopped everything was canceled and they decided for Powered Up remakes of MegaMan 1-6 but that flopped as well :(
Negative response from the market, the game didn't sell well. You couldn't blame Capcom for that one.
@@ArpeggioPegasus because they didn't port it to PSN/XBLA
Uhhh, having him actually be fun to play.
"Answer me, X! The Undefeated Reploid!"
Sigma wasn't voiced by Master Asia in Maverick Hunter X, he was in X8.
@@MiaowGaiGar "This would imply that Sigma became a Maverick of his own volition..."
FF7 remake doesn't really work for a comparison. It's like a sequel reboot hybrid of the original.
Excuse me, but kingdom hearts final mixes aren’t remakes what drugs did you take.
I would've loved to see X2 and X3 get maverick hunter remakes.
Same. Sad we might never see them..
Ik right. My purchase was worth every penny. I beat this one twice.
@@jlev1028 Huh. I guess you are right. I can't find the sales numbers though. ZX advent definitely sold over 90k only which is pathetic for a game.
Ye
My only complaint is that the visual novel cutscenes don't update X's images to reflect what Armor Parts he has collected.
Zero and the virus were never said to be less important for MHX.
A tiny bit off topic but the Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga remake I always thought was great, it felt like it polished a lot of things in the original that needed improvement, specifically the battle system.
I feel like the remake lost a lot of the goofy animations and expressions tho
Yeah it was actually good with the quality of life
Ofc Partners in time didn’t get a remake in place of the one we won’t speak of because I like the ORIGINAL version of that game a lot more and was able to play it through the backwards compatibility!
I love Superstar Saga. But I do prefer the remake more because of the improved battle system and whatnot. Despite some lack of charm, I enjoyed it and would replay it more times than the original. Now if only Partners in Time gotten an remake. That game needs alot of improvements.
@@jaretco6423 I think pixel Graphics shouldn’t have been tossed out like yesterday’s trash but I do like the quality of life improvements that the remake on 3DS was
And it was necessary because superstar saga could only be played on GBA!
Warrior.
Regarding the different dialogue, I believe it is the same in Normal difficulty as well. It just changes if you revisit the bosses after beating Sigma
vile mode is one of my personal favorites when it comes to bonus /additional content , even though he can use 3 weapons at a time he is still powerful like some of his attack can shred a boss life in seconds life golden punch or burning drive and etc.
So it could have push more the development of the conflict about "are mavericks really mavericks?" in later games (at least that's what I think they "tried" to do in X4).
really hope capcom's new direction tries again with maverick hunter x & powered up as it would've been great to have seen how the story would've changed like maybe introducing iris(maybe give the option to save her/build her relationship with zero more with more cutscenes.:3),repliforce(have a better reason for the fight and the ones working for sigma matter, could be holding zero's body parts for x in maverick hunter x 2.) & alia(could have her replace double as x's navigator introducing her better with her relationship to x.)/the other navigators(in x8 layer mentions zero flying the shuttle in x5.:3) early or reworking parts of it like in x4,x5(especially dr. wily/light living on as spirits in the light capsules/virus.) and x6 or the extreme games.
as i loved maverick hunter x's story with it's changes(i consider it canon as i like sigma getting his eye scars from x more,he should have way more scars if it was from x4 zero/it showing on sigmas face before the wolf form and dr. cain's death early honestly is for the better as outside causing the maverick war he really doesn't do much in x2-x3 and gets unceremoniously dropped after a mention in x4 to where he could be written out & replaced by repliforce introducing iris early, alia or even dr. doppler/gate.)
really showing x's character(favorite being in the end with his dialogue and how outside the weakness/hadoken the fully charged shot being able to hurt wolf sigma showing his potential.) & world as long gone from the classic days which i felt the most in dr. light in the credits(actually got almost teary seeing him talking to x/how close to his end yet hopeful he looked that it really made me question "what DID happen to classic megaman or roll?" as i kinda expected to at least hear them coming to see him.).
@@lpfan4491 post patch bdsp is one of my faviroute Pokémon games tbh
They are though i sunk my teeth into both versions, but emerald is really good i sadly lost my progress, but i got a bad bootleg copy.
@@V-Jes Rude, that game is great better to experience the old ones through that.
I do agree that the details are a lot more clear, but some were in the original. The laughing enemies, the toll booth, and while not as clear or cool as having the entire ship being crashed in the opening of Spark Mandrill, there are bits of the ship littering the floor, as well as an entire tube shattered.
In the SNES version of Mega Man X1:
* Copter enemies always laughed when they hit you.
It's the ONLY remake of all time......and MM Powered Up. Hope we get the series remake treatment like Resident Evil does.
in terms of why MHX didn't do well...
Man that mention to MMSF3 made me so sad, I love that game to death. Looking forward to possibly seeing you cover it in the future
Personally I loved Maverick Hunter X, I found the story elements much more interesting then I thought I would, just having more insight into each character interacting with one another, especially playing as Vile, I found it a surprise once I finished the game and the Title Screen changed, only further surprise seeing being able to play as another character.
I wish this would’ve been successful. The anime movies & voicework really brought this together. I would’ve LOVED the other 2 remade.
i thought Vile's campaign was fun, it starts out really difficult with your crappy starter weapons and then he becomes super op towards the end once you get his versions of storm eagle's weapon and can use it without an ammo meter like x
Honestly the funniest part of MHX was how aggressive they made X, it was honestly hilarious
I thought the same thing. He came across way more savage than his usual self.
A perfect remake would've been if it was remade with Megaman X4's graphics. Just imagine it 😶🌫️
In terms of gameplay definitely is one of the _worst_ in my opinion.
I loved this game! I even rebought a physical copy after i lost the first one. Powered Up too
Thanks for reminding me that I need to emulate this game, would've been interesting if they remade the entire series up to 6
Hells, imagine if they had done 5&6. Think of how much could have been fixed...
@@hyuuint even X4's English voice acting
Its funny because one of the reasons who caused this game and powered up to fail was because they were very easy to emulate when they come out
I remember when the plan was, according to CAPCOM, to remake Mega Man X through Mega Man X6.
Wahwee).
Actually, you can see fragments of Storm Eagle's ship at the beginning of Spark Mandrill's stage in the original X too.
The concept of playing as Vile is just infinitely cool
I'd love a MMX game where Vile is the main villain. He isn't some idealist with an agenda like Sigma, he just wants to destroy everything because he can, is programmed to. As a war machine.
It would be amazing if the Sigma/Maverick virus infected Vile but evolved in a way that makes reploids more independent, but chaotic. With no purpose other than to destroy everything.
Yes! Yes! I feel the same with the wall jump on MHX! It feels like X sticks to the surface and the jump is heavy.
He was immune to it in the original, even if you could have the hands raise high enough to hit him with it.
you could hit him in the original, but hes invulnerable to it.
after watching years of clabe speedruns i can confirm you cannot infact hadouken final sigma
and considering how hard people want that time save, it's safe to say you never will without cheating either
as for how you'd hit him with it if you wanted to see for yourself that it doesn't work, you'd have to perform a pause trick where you jump to the correct height, pause, unpause, and hadouken on the first frame out of the pause. this can be done because megaman registers as standing for a single frame after unpausing the game
I do believe his normal run speed is faster than X’s regular run speed but I agree he could have been a little tankier early on to balance him a bit
I love this game, I remember playing it back in the day 8 years ago on my psvita. one of the best PSP games!
@@megapokesonicx a re-release on 3DS would have been cool, but I'd definitely have never played it if it hadn't come out on PSP first.
Yet another weekly W for J's Reviews 😎 I'm looking forward to the next MegaMan X videos! Especially XDive since I play it so often.
This video also encouraged me to go ahead and play Maverick Hunter X too!
Also question, does anyone know if you change the voices in this game to Japanese?
Man the PSP was such an underrated system. Tons of great games on the go plus it was pretty easy to hack as well.
And the same can be true for Powered Up:
Playing as so many character is way more fun than having the classic MegaMan playstyle over again.
But there some characters are way better than others...
You can hadouken Sigma in the original SNES X but it does no damage as the fireball is consist of 32 lemons and Sigma is immue to lemons.
4:00 That's not something added in the remake, it's a thing that was part of the original. Those flying fucks.
Right now it current sits at my 4th favorite X game of the ones I played.
it's my favourite remake of all time, that's for sure
also, I like that it's a PSP game because the DS wouldn't have been able to handle its graphics
should've had a PS2 version though
I still wish they kept up with the Maverick Hunter and Powered Up remakes. Both did great jobs and introduced neat new things
Vile and Sigma were so cool in this remake and I love their voice acting, really enjoyed playing as one of my all time favorite villians.
All this time later though the fact that this game can only be played on original hardware or emulator hold it back.
4:07 they laughed in the original too btw.
"... Or X: Corrupted Drops..."
Hahahahahahaha... Maybe my grandkids will get to see the final update video before it finally drops.
They could've even used the models for an X8 themed X challenge on the part 2, it would be great.
i love maverick hunter x alot, its definitely one of my favorite games of all time
i wish we got more megaman x remakes 🙁
Youre absolutely right about dash jumping off walls, Im 100% sure the timing window is way tighter than in the original
Ngl I kinda want to see a Mega Man Extras Legacy Collection with the Legends games, Mega Man & Bass, Powered up, and Maverick Hunter X
X having different pre-boss dialogue depending on which difficulty you're playing on is such a cool feature.
