Big distinction is it does not overlay tracked imagery onto the real 3D scene. It simply overlays a fixed 2D screen, much like Google Glass did several years ago. The new advantage would be the use of AI for content.
Oh my frick!! If I can use my local llm via the openai API...I am totally sold. Being open source, I would be willing to spend a considerable amount of time figuring this out!

Definitely interested in seeing these in action. Like are they NReal like or something more. I love the NReal glasses but they are basically for watching videos and need to be tethered to your phone. I really like them for what they do so would be interested in seeing how these compare. Definitely more interesting with the AI piece. Thanks as always Matthew, really enjoy your content!
well worth testing, I went out and immediately bought a Rabbit R1 for sometime in February, but in the deal I get the first year of Perplexity Pro service, so am happily enjoying Perplexity Pro while waiting.
I have a pair but don’t like them. Wow, I have a lot to share, but I'll give you the Cliff Notes version. The small strip that recognizes objects on the lens doesn’t work very well-probably because it’s not large enough to detect many objects, unless you’ve mastered the art of looking at things with these glasses. One thing that stands out to me about the G1 glasses is that they have a solid foundation of features that seem thoroughly tested and reliable. The Brilliant Labs Frames are open for development, so you can improve the glasses whenever you want, but the issue is that they lack a solid foundation from the start to get you excited about developing. I work with code analytics for a living, and the last thing I want to do is essentially do the manufacturer's job by building a bunch of apps they could have pre-installed on the glasses. If you want to totally geek out and do another companies job for them, the brilliant lab frames are for you. I will openly admit a more of a iPhone type of guy where I just want the stuff to work out the box and live my life lol
I'm definitely going to get these for myself, can't wait to see feature development and customers designing there own modular hardware to work with the glasses since they are open source. (Oh I'm now part of your 256k subs :) ) Just imagine being to link it with your mobile phone and controlling hardware through you smart home app, just by looking at the object it recognizing it and lets say Turning on the study lamp in view. Tony stark esc
Yea, I wouldn't touch this until I see a reputable tester actually "test" them -- there are countless vaporware products out there, however it is good to hear that they have other products released. I would like to know how well the open source code works with the hardware.
These look great and hopefully address some of the limitations of the Meta Reybans such as battery life. You'll also only need a boater hat to be able to do Harold Lloyd impersonation
the vision pro or any other ver seat shouldn’t be compared with spectacles- they are completely different products - spectacles are visual assistants while the set are immersive navigator (calendar vs browser concept)
Really curious how the visibility of the OLED would hold up in even a moderately lit environment. Ive seen other AR glasses but theyve had to be heavily tinted sunglasses with something of a visor at the top to block the light out and provide a backdrop that can contrast the display. If this what they advertise it to be its quite a break through. I bought the viture one about a year ago and i love it.
I am totally blind in my right eye. Will they ever make products like this for people who are left-eye dominant (or in my case only see in the left eye)? Google Glass only had a right-eye version too. No left-eye option.
Comparing them to the Apple Vision Pro/Quest 3 just isn’t fair. This is hardware-wise a totally different product. I’m not saying that it’s going to be bad, but the comparison makes no sense in my eyes.
Hey dude, this is a video that I particularly like it , it is something more kind of a product ( even though it is open source ) I appreciate when you focus in products and latest software ( not projects) some stuff is under development and not fully tested . But when you promote some new gadget, I do think this is the best approach to all this wave we are living right now. Wish you the best, keep the good content ✌️
I just subscribed in order to let you know that I want you to buy these, and since you already bought Apple's product, to do an in depth review on them. Especially in light of Zuck's recent critique of Apple's entry in comparison to Meta's which also called out the extravagant price to functionality ratio
So this is most likely going to use the tech from monocle. Their other ai lens device that's similarly priced. It's cool in its own right, but I doubt that it's going to be something as impressive as a wave guided pair of ai glasses. Especially at that price point. Since they're only showing us renders of it. I wouldn't be surprised if the glasses were either, really thick. Or, have a magnetic attachment for the tech itself.
It would be great if you could do a review. As a blind person, I am looking for the holy Grail of glasses that will help me do videos, take pictures and access visual information via AI, without being invasive, and having it be more natural as in wearing glasses. I currently am playing with Meta glasses, and own some specialized glasses, made for blind users that are basically obsolete, even though they are incorporating AI..
This tech in direct sunlight will not work due to projection. The resolution is not mentioned so this would be purely for information gathering from a screen via AI and not tweaked for movies etc. If you need AI input constantly at work with hands on labor tasks..maybe it is worth it.
I always wanted a monocle, but could never really justify spending on such an experimental piece of tech, but these glasses look a lot more polished. Would love to give them a try
Get them! I believe in these and on Meta Ray ban. The apple vision pro is an entirely different market, it's suited for entertainment and simulations. These glasses are lightweight devices you can bring anywhere and use AI to interpret the world. On device AI is not there yet though, but the fact that you can bring them everywhere just like regular glasses, means this is what will replace the Smartphone most likely. I suspect there will be 3 different devices: AI style smart speakers with camera, microphone and more for your home(these can have huge expensive hardware inside), AI glasses, and Humanoid robots. Both the glasses and robots rely on battery so that will limit their computing power without cloud. The smart speaker can be hooked up to power in your home enabling for much greater on device AI. Slim portable laptops took a long time to develop, everyone used desktop from about 70s to at least 2000.
I dont think these are competing against Vision Pro, its like comparing an apple watch to a gaming PC... I think these are more in line with Ray-Ban Meta... I dont think these have speakers, so, do you want your AI information visually or audibly, that is the difference here.
I know these are targeting the consumer market, but I’m thinking that it’s just a matter of time before they just add shatterproof lenses and maybe some side shields and boom you have an affordable augmented reality pair of safety glasses that can be used for industrial applications. Connected to an open AI enterprise account and maybe an entire team at a factory could be utilizing these.
Of all the AI products on the market there’s only two I was interested in, I preordered a Rabbit R1 and will take a look at the reviews of the XReal Ultra’s if the R1 is a bust.
I would be one to appreciate you purchasing them and doing a review. I know I would get something from the video. Though, AI glasses seem to be too in the infancy stage for me to buy just yet.
Can someone correct me if my understanding of "open-source + openai api" is confusing in terms of how expensive it can get? Or does that amplies that there is always an option to use open source LLMs?
Someone really needs to take the opportunity to create an app/overlay that shows signs like CONSUME, OBEY, PROCREATE over everyday objects when you wear the glasses....
No lie, these being open source is like.... a new gift in connection to ai. I bet we could all start our own company and use these glasses plus ai to teach and train employees that will work with the ai to grow and operate together and make differences. Kinda like how philosophers use philosophy to bring changes and battles use weapons, we would use the ai and human together to explore using all the ai knowledge but the human is the guidance. Similar to our brain having all the knowledge but contained within a vault instead of our head but we can freely access the information and understandings.
Google tried this with google glass and everyone just went to the cinema to record the movies and then everyone got all upset about privacy concerns, then it went off the market.
It's about time... because INMO a China's company brought two similar products last year. INMO Go and INMO Air 2. I own the first one and it's what really I was searching for!
I'd love to try out a pair of AI glasses at least once, but I'm convinced that the real game-changer lies in headsets like the Meta Quest 3, seamlessly blending both VR and AR experiences. And let's give credit where it's due - Meta's strategy of launching new headsets annually is nothing short of brilliant, showcasing their relentless drive for innovation in this ever-evolving field. Exciting times ahead!
It is just a video, until you can get them and play with them for a week, nothing matters. IRL is the king. On the other hand, definitely something we should pay attention to.
Seem cool and all but I feel like in the next year theres going to be a lot of ai glasses and these will probably lag behind, as much as Id want to try these out.
How the heck do people wear these plastic frame glasses with no nose pads? Certain glasses stores specialize in these non-padded glasses but I don't know any glasses wearers who can use them. Is the idea just that only people with noses that happened to be the exact same size and shape as the mold which begets the plastic can wear the frames? Otherwise they just sit crooked, too high or low, or smash your nose painfully. Anyway I can't wear these and neither can anybody
"This is completely different than what Apple has launched" - well obviously, when it's a completely different kind of product. it's like comparing smartphones and TVs just bevause they have screens 😅
For Type 1 diabetics, this would be a dream! We need to know how many carbohydrates are in everything we eat every day. If I had something like this that could give me a close idea of much carbs are in a particular food, it would make my life so much easier!
I think everyone can agree on that. But the possible functionalities are quite different I assume. I don't think you can watch movies or have a digital office with multiple screens with the frames.
The first company which makes these glasses unrecognizable from actual glasses is going to make big money. Just imagine having these on during an exam. 😇
Should I buy one to review?
I would like it but it depends on whether it is profitable for you.
Go ahead and get a pair, make sure you use it as a deduction/business expense for your channel/company.
yes, please :)
Yes please, this is something I can see myself buying and would love an honest review from you.
Yes! Specially the open source capabilities.
Yes, I would appreciate seeing you test these glasses.
Big distinction is it does not overlay tracked imagery onto the real 3D scene. It simply overlays a fixed 2D screen, much like Google Glass did several years ago.

So it's gunna suck....great
@@foxdog9332 Well, different applications. May fit well for its price.

Bring ur ai girlfriend with you man!
great idea!

Matt, thank you for helping keep us on top of the AI News and related products! These glasses look very interesting!
They've been on it for an year now, fully open source, love their team!
Why compare these to Apple Vision Pro? Doesn’t seem like the same thing at all.

yes, really curious. I would love to get your opinion as you seem really honest
What is the weight? They need to show more use cases. What other glasses for multiple screens?
This is going so fast, goddamn ! Who knew the Singularity would be so exciting...until it's not, ofc.
Someone really needs to take the opportunity to create an app/overlay that shows signs like CONSUME, OBEY, PROCREATE over everyday objects when you wear the glasses....
Definitely CGI. No question. It won't be that crisp and clean. No way. No how.
there's no link in the description (as of now)
Updated
The benefit for the opensource is it act as a free researchers for the company and it fixed most of the issue fast.
I can't wait. This is definitely on my purchase list. I have the rayban metas and I love them.
nice review!
AI company: Good, let me see and log what you see!! Good...Gooooood!
I'm not suggesting these glasses are everything they claim to be. However, this is the future: Light, affordable glasses controlled via AI and voice.
The real interesting part is that if it's pen source that means you can direct it to your local llm instead
Do they come in any other style, excluding the Harry Potter one?
They look cool! Open source is great. I wish you could game on them though. As soon as we find out if that's possible I'll preorder in a heartbeat.
where's the link for the source?
Sounds like you'll be paying OpenAI a regular subscription fee with these.

I don't know how much extra lenses cost, but if you already wear glasses, the extra cost doesn't seem too much for getting a computer too.
Can't they hide the camera under a crystal?
Google tried this with google glass and everyone just went to the cinema to record the movies and then everyone got all upset about privacy concerns, then it went off the market.
obvious yes, but whens the release date?
It's about time... because INMO a China's company brought two similar products last year. INMO Go and INMO Air 2. I own the first one and it's what really I was searching for!

I will be interested once they have an actual functioning product that the public can test with no restrictions.
Awesome!
normalise your audio: I have the video volume slider and the Windows volume slider both set at 100% and I can only hear you slightly sub-optimally.
Can I upload my own custom code builds since this is open source? I want to create my own reality with my coding skills
Brilliant will gladly send a pair to you for review. I suppose.
It is just a video, until you can get them and play with them for a week, nothing matters. IRL is the king. On the other hand, definitely something we should pay attention to.
seriously why don't you put links in your descript or pinned comment. ffs
Sorry, updated
Look at you Matt, kicking A$# and taking names! Getting warmer. 😅
Keep up the great job!

I am SHOCKED ...and Rizzed!!
Isn't this the same than the magic leap stuff?
Magic leap is more AR, is isn’t focused on visuals. It’s more focused on AI.
@@matthew_berman so they pivoted then?

Comparing these with Apple Vision is comparing apples with oranges
idk why you would compare this to the apple vision. What they do and offer are 2 completely different worlds
Harry Potter back in fashion? But seriously, get them for the community. One video and you make all of it back and more.
My prescription glasses almost cost that much. Thats insanely cheap.
I'd much rather walk about with these glasses on than the Apple ski goggles.
I think everyone can agree on that. But the possible functionalities are quite different I assume. I don't think you can watch movies or have a digital office with multiple screens with the frames.
We'll all be interested in a device like this but not v1.0.
