Would you recommend mixing Leaders and Cities at the same time? If so, would adding Edifice to Leaders as well as Cities be too much?

We do use Cities and Leaders together, and it adds greatly to the game, as there are leaders that interact with the black cities cards. The game does not get much longer, though, so you should definitely try adding both of these expansions

We play with Leaders, Cities and Armada. Thinking about adding edifice just for more complexity :D

I have not played the second edition, but at least the original had wonders that had only 2 steps on the wonder. Are there project cards that award these tokens to protect yourself from the negative effects???

There are indeed some wonders that only have two levels, but since not every player needs to contribute to an Edifice for it to be considered completed, it's not really problematic. (With five players, only three need to contribute to the edifice.)

is this expansion compatible with 1st edition? I don't have the babel expansion to 1st edition.

Yes it is. It is officially announced tht is compatible with both edition. Only small details like the new wonder boards size and iconography maybe a bit different but it works fine.

According to a BGG, this expansion can be used with both the original & 2nd edition.

Ordered this the other day and looking forward to getting it to the table. Think we might just go crazy and add all the expansions at the same time :D (minus Babel which id the only one I don't have). Only downside for me is that I've got the original version of the game and expansions so it may have to live on a shelf of its own until I perhaps one day upgrade to the 2nd edition. Looks like it could be a solid expansion but I don't think it will top my favourite which is currently Armada.

It reminds me to one of my favorite maps of Ticket to Ride, the Japan one. With the Shinkansen mechanic, everyone can take benefit from its presence, but only the most charitable builders get extra points, and the greedy ones are punished.
