      if you want to make the hatch open you can do it easily , drill a hole in the hinges . use a PE saw and cut the hatch hinges from the hull hinges and insert a wire in it to use as axle . you now have more realistic and FUNCTIONING hatches !

    16:13 get a drill press. I simply cannot overstate how great an addition it is. The experience of using one is so much better compared to drilling holes free-hand. I think Proxxon has a conversion kit for the Micromot. Alternatively, you can always make your own.

    I learned just as much... perhaps even more construction techniques, watching this live demo than all the content that Adam Wilder and Mig Jimenez stuff into their books, not to take away from their incredible content, but watching it live with your tips and the reasons "why" behind them... I'm hard pressed to find this level of modeling education anywhere else. Outstanding stuff Martin!

    Started watching modelling videos 2 days ago. Watched ModelChili Scale Models and PLASMO - plastic models and you are by far the most interesting one! Great explanations, the tutorial videos are a great help for beginners (haven't even bought my first model yet) and the videos are just so easy to watch due to your funny nature!     Fine molds is re releasing their japanese tanks series with link and length tracks which is a great. So far we have Ho-Ni III (also with full interior), Chi-Nu and Chi-Nu Kai / II. All new releases have updated parts (tracks and intetior) listed on the box front.

    For sanding sharp corner i makemy own tools from sheet styrene. A decent strong thickness i then glue sanding paper and bevel the edges inward at the top so it flares out at the sanding part

    Our Aunt Carla worked at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and told us years ago about a "strange Jap tank" and other captured military armor. It was all scrapped in the mid 1950s.

    And yes the Chi-Ri was a massive vehicle ! It is much larger than Tiger 1 and even slightly larger than the Tiger 2.

    Great videos and awesome channel! I noticed that you use the Tamiya scoring tool for your weld seams. Have you considered using a jeweler’s graver? They are very sharp, cheap, and you can buy them in a variety of cutting angles/widths.

    Great video, I look forward to the paint job! Also a cool side project could be to create the tray loading Type 5 gun intended for the tank in its field test mounting.

      I'm not sure if the gun was actually built in real life, at least I haven't seen any photos, just blueprints... and hey, thanks!

      @@NightShiftScaleModels The Japanese wikipedia gives a detailed account of the tank's gun and prototyping, technically it ran through a few guns and the early Chi Ri used a different turret (the one eventually thrown onto a Chi He hull which became the Chi Nu). The tray loading Type 5 gun prototype was developed, and a photo can be found here:

      Night Shift indeed, for the record I’m fairly certain the Chi Ri I design never got fully assembled either, and of course the Type 5 prototype gun was never mounted in the turret either. It’s a pretty interesting loading system however.

    What's the reason for using black super glue instead of clear super glue in certain places? Is it because it's easier to tell where there's glue when you're cleaning it up with debonder?

    The part covering the huge hole after the missing gun mount isn't steel or fabric; it's wood. In one picture, you can see the cover is simply made from five scraps of wood nailed together to cover the opening.
